SEASON 2011-2012 from The Roanoke Symphony
We are privileged to live in the beautiful Blue Ridge, where we celebrate a colorful palette of live music. From the first blossoms of an Appalachian spring, to the breathtaking snowfalls of winter, to the vibrant colors of fall and intense blue of our summer morning sky, our home in the Blue Ridge creates a sensory symphony in four movements.

As Music Director of your Roanoke Symphony Orchestra & Chorus, I hear many music lovers from throughout the Blue Ridge share their excitement and joy. Each new story about the RSO is unique in its own way, but our shared symphony experiences possess a common thread – entertainment. We have an exciting Roanoke Symphony Orchestra season planned for you, with every concert an event to remember. Our opening night will pair Dvorak’s beloved symphony “From the New World” with a Bluegrass infused premiere at the RSO. The world famous ambassadors of the flute, Sir James Galway and Lady Jeanne Galway, will dazzle us with gems for winds and orchestra by Mozart and others. The winner of our inaugural “Star City Piano Competition” will play the powerful Rachmaninoff second concerto. A special RSO musical showcase of love is planned for our Valentine’s weekend concert. And in the spring you will hear the RSO premiere of Bernstein’s inspiring Chichester Psalms for chorus and orchestra. Plus, the Picnic at the Pops Series is better than ever with four great concert events. Please take a look inside. Our 58th season welcomes even more opportunities to create your own affordable entertainment package with the RSO. You may select any of three, four, or five concert programs, choosing from engaging Masterworks programs, popular Picnic at the Pops events, including our 5th annual RSO Rocks concert, and Handel’s Messiah. Or, choose a series subscription for the best seating selection and best deals. The RSO is the place to hear, enjoy and share Art that Entertains in the heart of the Blue Ridge! Sincerely Yours, David Stewart Wiley Music Director and Conductor Roanoke Symphony Orchestra music@rso.com
