Let’s talk Business
R
wanda is a remarkable tourism and conference destination, gaining popularity among international conference and event organizers. As a key pillar in Rwanda’s Vision 2020, the tourism industry is one of the country’s largest employers and foreign exchange earners, a ripe market whose benefits are quickly extending to other business avenues. Rwanda’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events (MICE) tourism sector has been identified as providing a clear and long-term opportunity to diversify and grow Rwanda’s export strategy, giving a platform for foreign direct investment while fostering local industry growth through business to business networking. Welcome to Kigali, Rwanda’s booming capital city, conference ready, with a number of international events under its belt, notably high-level forums such as the Transform Africa Summit in October 2015, the Africa Development Bank General Assembly in May 2014, the Africa Insurance Summit in June 2014 and ITC’s World Export Development Forum in September 2014 which hosted upwards of 1000 delegates in one go. Make Kigali your conference destination of choice, equipped with numerous hotels, convention centres, 4G internet connection and seamless transport options. The Kigali Convention Centre (KCC), positioned on a hilltop in the heart of Kigali is the latest addition to the city’s landscape and upcoming conferencing venue. The translucent dome modeled on a traditional King’s Palace holds a multi-functional hall with a maximum capacity of 2,600. The new $300 million development set to be unveiled in May 2016 will easily become one of the most recognized modern structures in the continent of Africa. Once operational, it will boost Rwanda’s conferencing capacity x-fold, positioning the country as the leading MICE destination in East Africa. In tandem with the KCC, a number of international 4 and 5-star hotel brands are currently under development (i.e.
4
Radisson Blu, Marriott, Park Inn, Sheraton, Kempinski, Protea, Golden Tulip) with over 1,000 high-end rooms set to enter the market over the next 5 years. Kigali International Airport (KIA)’s recently upgraded facility is a swift 10 minute drive from the city centre, allowing for easy transport for all passengers. The airport expansion forecasts an annual passenger flow of 1,500,000, three times more than in previous years. The nation’s flag carrier, RwandAir, among the fastest growing airlines on the African continent is at the centre of this growth, providing connections to business hubs across the continent and the Middle East and Europe. KIA’s ease of access and solid infrastructure add to the reasons which make Rwanda a strong contender for growth in the MICE sector while simultaneously opening trade linkages and facilitating investment. While doing business in Rwanda, visitors should take the time to explore the Land of a Tousand Hills, which owes its name to endless undulating green landscapes. Take advantage of our incredible offering of pre and post-convention tours, tailored to your taste, allowing you a unique experience as you discover Rwanda’s rich cultural life. Venture through Rwanda’s array of natural wonders and uncover Africa’s largest protected rain forest, Volcano Mountains and coffee and tea plantations. Rwanda’s three National Parks house one third of the world’s remaining Mountain Gorillas, fourteen species of primates, one third of Africa’s bird species and four of the Big 5 game animals. Lake Kivu will seal your sojourn with a tour of the islands and resorts.
Welcome to Remarkable Rwanda, we will be delighted to host you and your event!

M
usanze, located in the Northwestern part of Rwanda is where the most mesmerizing combination of culture, adventure and wildlife can best be captured. The Volcanoes National Park (VNP) lies along the Virunga Mountains housing 8 volcanoes shared between Rwanda and the two neighboring countries Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. A short two hour drive from Rwanda’s capital city of Kigali, the Volcanoes National Park is a central location for experiencing Rwanda’s distinct open-air adventures. While the mountain gorilla trek is often at the top of visitors’ itinerary, the dramatic landscape of the volcanoes offer thrilling hikes and treks to the fascinating golden monkeys. The VNP is one of Rwanda’s conservation epicenters, home to a number of international organizations and a coveted research ground, namely for gorillas. Visitors can pay homage to the late scientist and gorilla advocate Dian Fossey with a hike to her tomb and also pass by the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, the center which carries her legacy through research and advocacy. Also within the VNP boundaries are the Buhanga Eco Park and Musanze Caves, two sites that will lead you on a remarkable nature trail. The Buhanga Eco-Park is denoted by its elegant forest which holds Rwanda’s most intriguing folklore while the Musanze Caves – formed 62 million years ago after the last estimated volcanic eruption- offer a mystical experience in the underworld.

ocated in the northeastern part of Rwanda along the border of Tanzania. It is named after the Akagera River that flows along its eastern boundary and feeds into a labyrinth of lakes of which the largest is Lake Ihema. The forest fringed lakes, papyrus swamps, savannah plains and rolling highlands combine to make Akagera amongst the most scenic reserves anywhere in Africa. It has exceptional levels of biodiversity and forms the largest protected wetland in central Africa. Akagera complements the Nyungwe National Park and Volcanoes National Park, offering a memorable safari experience, home to many large plains game species as well as species restricted to the papyrus swamps such as the sitatunga and the sought-after shoebill stork. Notable plains game animals include elephant, buffalo, topi, zebra, waterbuck, roan antelope and eland. Other antelope are duiker, oribi, bohor reedbuck, klipspringer, bushbuck and impala. Of the primates, olive baboons, vervets and the secretive blue monkey are seen during the day with bushbabies often seen on night drives. In 2015, the ANP celebrated a huge conservation milestone as it successfully brought back the lions, following a decade long absence. Other large predators include leopards, hyenas and sidestriped jackals. The ANP plans to introduce the black rhino by end of 2016 restoring Rwanda’s status as a Big 5 destination.
