This portfolio is a brief overview of creative work from the past 4 years while studying at Parsons The New School for Design in the School of Design Studies. The work includes a balance of projects completed by playing the roles of designer, intern, strategist, analyst, event coordinator, and project manager. Each project required the implementation of 3 or more of the following expertise: research, process, design, and management.

Lamborghini Electric Lamborghini Electric Advertising Campaign Highlighted Competencies: Socio-Technical

Systems

Course: Advertising in Design INdustries Instructor: Nancy Salvati Proficiency: InDesign Completion Date: MAy 2008

Project Description

To develop a comprehensive advertising campaign whereby the student develops the strategies that launch a successful design product into the marketplace through decision making regarding the budget, the message, the medium, and the types of measurement used to evaluate the ‘success’ of the communications program. 1

Learning Outcomes

The Internet and technology’s impact on advertisting and branding Understanding of the contract process of a design company and the creation of ultimate deliverables Creation and use of direct and online marketing, sales promotion, public relations, interactive media, and personal selling, along with traditional roles of broadcast and print media The automobile industry is a leap from the direction of study and expertise, but this topic seemed of interest because of its increasing popularity and hype in the marketplace.

The Water Experience The Water Experience Sustainability Pavillion Highlighted Competencies: Design Practices Course: Design IV Instructor: Ivan Shumkov Proficiency: Google SketchUp, InDesign, iMovie Completion Date: MAy 2009

Project Description

Each student is to design a pavilion using Google’s 3D software program, SketchUp, which informs the public about a current global issue of the student’s choice. The Water Experience is an interactive pavilion located on the north side of Union Square that tackles the issue of inadequate water supply. uses continuously recycled water cascades from the roof of the pavilion forming the curtains of water. A laser projection device displays various numerical facts about water in the world. Learning Outcomes

Lack of clean water is a global issue that millions of people in developing countries suffer from everyday. There is more water waste generated and dispersed today than at any other time in the history of our planet: more than one out of six people lack access to safe drinking water. The water experience is made possible because of sensor technology, embedded intelligence, networking, computer-controlled pumps and valves, and control software. 9

Alvar Aalto Vase & The Water Experience

From an aerial perspective of The Water Experience one might recognize the shape of the water flows to be similar to that of Alvar Aalto’s Savoy Vases. The vases were originally inspired by the dress of a Sami woman. The vase is used in The Water Experience as inspiration of how the curtains of water will appear while people are meandering through the pavilion. Highly sensitive sensors are positioned on the ceiling and floor of the entire pavilion allowing observers to stay completely dry while passing through. The curtain of water would clear an opening for the visitor as soon as the visitor approached the nearby sensors. The Water Experience logo was also inspired and influenced by the curves of his vases from an aerial perspective.

Clarus Group Clarus Group Launch Party For DJ E¢k$ and Tracee Owo Highlighted Competencies: Project Management

and Team Dynamics

Course: Managing Creative Projects and Teams Instructor: Kaleem Kamboj Proficiency: Communication skills Completion Date: MAy 2009

Project Description

To establish a company in any industry of our group’s choosing and produce a business plan. With the help of five other students in the course, Clarus Group was formed with the intent to increase awareness about and reinvent the styles and images of both artists, DJ E¢k$ and singer Tracee Owo, who are also group members.

Owo and E¢k$ in Qui Restaurant

Each student took on a specific role, which was strategically chosen based on that student’s expertise. As the Event Coordinator of Clarus Group my tasks were to plan the launch party, select a venue to host the launch party at, and obtain sponsorships. The end result of the course was launch party hosted by Sutra Lounge in Manhattan’s Lower East Side with sponsorships by Code Blue and Sambazon, where DJ E¢k$ spun great beats to keep the crowd moving and Tracee Owo sang three of her newest songs live.

Pedals 4 People Pedals 4 People

Ghana Bike Project Highlighted Competencies: Team Dynamics Course: Department Seminar 3 Instructor: Elliot Felix Proficiency: InDesign, Photoshop, Power Point Completion Date: December 2009

Team Members: Alex Levin, Kim Jimenez, Elise Flanagan,

Ian Josephson, Karolina Mszanecki

Project Description

Learning Outcomes

Three groups of five students are asked to design a business or non-profit organization that will benefit a developing country in different areas of transportation, health, or education. Our groups’ goal was to determine solution to the lack of access to transportation.

Bikes in developing countries provide more than just transportation. Pedals 4 People is a business system in which bikes are maintained and rented by the local people of the country for an affordable fee relative to the average income and the country’s GDP. The system will: provide employment, support family infrastructure, mobilize doctors with patient carts, connect teachers and students, train locals to become bike experts, enable individuals to change their circumstances, and empower citizens through microfinance and leadership development. The business initially obtains the bikes through donations and landfills; the business is self-sustaining once initialized in the country by the business leaders.

The group conducted a comparison study of the current competition in the market to explore the existing options available; it was discovered that Pedals 4 People is a unique idea that has not yet been established in the marketplace. Flanaganelise@gmail.com
