The Most Intelligent Business Saloon

Introducing the brand new E-Class Saloon

4

Mercedes-Benz has taken a big step into the future. And with one giant step, comes endless innovations, record-breaking aerodynamics and distinctive, emotive design. The sum of these characteristics form the most intelligent saloon in the business class, the all-new E-Class. Sophisticated, confidently stylish and sporty, the new E-Class has grown by 65 millimetres, adopting the hallmark Mercedes-Benz saloon proportions, seen in the family range of the C-Class and S-Class. The elongated bonnet coupled with a coupé-esque roof mixed with a sensual, broad-shouldered tail end, has created an exciting new silhouette for one of the brand’s most successful models. Further characterised by large wheels and taut, well-defined flanks displaying a fresh, stylish and dynamic interpretation of the feature line, the E-Class delivered the perfect take on the Mercedes-Benz design philosophy that of Sensual Purity. Underlining the status that every business-class saloon aspires to, the interior of the new E-Class emphasises the synthesis of emotion and intelligence, poles that are defined by the Mercedes-Benz design philosophy. Optional extras include two next-generation high-resolution displays, each with a wide screen diagonal of 12.3 inches – a first in this segment. Beneath their shared glass cover, the two displays visually merge into a wide-screen cockpit that seems to be hovering in thin air. This central element further emphasises the horizontal orientation of the new interior

design, whilst offering a large display in which to showcase the virtual instrument cluster. Giving the driver the option to choose between three different styles, namely Classic, Sport and Progressive, every milestone has been stretched to make the model feel as individual as possible. This has further been heightened by touch sensitive controls on the steering wheel, making their first appearance in a car. Like a smartphone interface, they respond precisely to horizontal and vertical swiping movements, allowing drivers to control the entire infotainment system without having to take their hands off the steering wheel.

The technology continues with exclusive use of durable, energysaving LED technology in the interior lighting system. Also enhancing the ambient lighting included in the model lines, are 64 colours available at the touch of a button, making possibilities of personalisation endless.

6

Available in a choice of two engines currently, namely the E 220 d and E 350 d, the UK market looks forward to welcoming further model variants in coming months, including the E 350 e which proudly features hybrid technology. The new four-cylinder diesel unit marks the birth of a new Mercedes-Benz engine family and opens up new dimensions in efficiency. What’s more, it is shorter and more compact than its predecessor thanks to reduced cylinder spacing. Matched with 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission as standard, the drive is simply unchallenged.

With so much technology found under the bonnet and inside, the E-Class already holds a clear leading position in the world of advancing technology, yet matched with next-generation driver assistance systems the model has moved into a class of its own. The Optional Driver Assistance package includes DRIVE PILOT, a system that represents the next step along the road to autonomous driving. Keeping the car the correct distance behind the vehicles in front automatically, it can also follow them at a speed of up to 210 km/h for the first time. Making driving easier, DRIVE PILOT works in unison with the selectable Speed Limit Pilot which can autonomously adjust the vehicle’s speed in response to camera-detected speed limits. Furthermore for the first time, the E-Class welcomes Remote Parking Pilot which allows the vehicle to be moved into and out of garages and parking spaces remotely using a smartphone app. With so many systems making the new E-Class one of the most intelligent cars on the road, it really does need to be seen to be believed. Arrange a test drive today at your nearest Robinsons Mercedes-Benz retailer.

When Style and Sport Collide Taking the C-Class Coupé out for a spin

Now proudly showcasing its new athletic, sporty, cutting edge combination, the all new C-Class Coupé has been in demand since it’s launch late last year... and it’s easy to see why. With a full makeover, the latest member of the C-Class family simply demands attention with a dynamically configured chassis, optional air suspension and low road roar for maximum driving pleasure. All felt in abundance upon our test drive across the Norfolk landscape, the high level of comfort matched with a lightweight construction meant the model sliced through the country air like a hot knife through butter. Taking inspiration from the elegant 8

curves seen in the S-Class Coupé, as well as a strong and defined front almost likened to the CLA and CLS model collections, the new C-Class Coupé has been on the top of many lists this year championed as one of the sportiest variants currently dominating the German portfolio. Its thrill-seeking character creates emotion, while at the same time forming a distinctive design. The sportily striking front section, featuring the trademark diamond radiator grille and long bonnet, blends seamlessly into a long stretching, lowered body, before giving way to a bold and powerfullooking rear end. Holding a high beltline and frameless doors with

freestanding exterior mirrors, every feature forms even more style, giving an almost MercedesAMG GT like feeling. Testing the model’s traction around some of the county’s twisting roads, the Coupé’s AIRMATIC Dynamic Handling package came into its own. Working to keep the vehicle body level constant and independent of the load it is carrying, the air suspension system operates a pneumatic allround self-level system, with both the ‘Comfort’ and ‘Sport’ settings allowing the driver to choose between more luxurious or sportier drive. Powering the four-cylinder engine as we broke out onto Norfolk’s

A-roads, the new model roared to life. Sliding through the gears with the smooth 7G-TRONIC PLUS, the automatic transmission enabled us to reach top speeds in a matter of seconds, using the DYNAMIC SELECT to add an extra boost of bite in ‘Sport Plus’ mode. Inside the sports seats provided optimum lateral support for the utmost driving comfort, finely finished with hand-crafted luxury and high-class appeal. Added to the optionally available head-up display, which allows the driver to view data such as speed limits and navigation instructions in the driver’s field of vision, and it was clear to see why the model had received so much attention since first reveal. Clearly designed to appeal to both the heart and mind, the C-Class Coupé continues to shine amongst the Mercedes-Benz portfolio. With the launch of the Mercedes-AMG C 43, a model line that achieves 0-62mph in just 4.7 seconds and an impressive 367 hp, the C-Class Coupé shows no signs of slowing down… and we for one are grateful. New Name, New Dynamic Twenty years after the launch of its predecessor, Mercedes-Benz presents the all-new SLC

The SLK’s debut appearance in 1996 caused a sensation. Not only was this a compact roadster from Mercedes-Benz but it featured vibrant Yellowstone launch paintwork and, instead of the traditional soft top, a tough vario-roof. The SLK marked the start of a new era for the traditional Mercedes-Benz brand and its roof design served as a model for many other opentop vehicles. Now relaunched with a new name – SLC – the all-new model has been making headlines of its own with new additions, technological advancements and visual stand-out features that set the roadster into a league of its own. Having arrived in our showrooms in April this year, the model’s name change acknowledges the traditionally close relationship with the C-Class, from which most of the roadster’s technology is derived. Already recognising a reputation that deemed high to live up to, the SLC broke boundaries welcoming a new top-of-theline addition in the Mercedes-AMG SLC 43. Providing the impressive driving performance associated with the AMG brand promise, the new model combines a 270 kW (367 hp), 520 Nm, 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine with a modified version of the AMG sports suspension familiar from the Mercedes-AMG SLK 55. All combined 11

The new SLC. Unleash your senses.

Like its predecessor, the SLC combines athletic styling and performance with exceptional comfort. Top-down motoring is a pleasure thanks to the electro-hydraulic vario-roof, which you can open or close at the touch of a button. Optional extras, such as AIRSCARF neck level heating and the AIRGUIDE, which reduces in-cabin turbulence, provide an even more refined open-top experience.

to give a sportier finish, the recipe’s success is reflected in the SLC 43 acceleration from 0 – 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. The facelift itself further emphasises this move towards the sports segment, with Mercedes-Benz designers further honing the new front section, where the steeply raked radiator grille elongates the appearance of the arrow-shaped bonnet. This striking new look is completed with the diamond radiator grille feature, now as standard. Whilst many other worthy attributes make up the all-new model’s exterior, the advanced assistance and safety systems are also to be admired. A new feature for the SLC is the standard-fit Active Brake Assist, known in other model series as COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS. In addition to radarbased proximity warning and braking assistance by Adaptive Brake Assist, this Active Brake Assist carries out autonomous braking to reduce the danger of rearend collisions. If the driver fails to act when a risk of collision is detected, despite the warning lamp in the instrument cluster and intermittent audible alert, the system will imitate automatic braking, significantly reducing the vehicle speed. Also new to the model range, is the optionally available Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, which offers dazzle-free continuous high beam usage. When high beam is switched on, the system always makes the optimum headlamp range available. The driver can concentrate on the traffic, instead of switching between low and high beam, leaving the Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus to detect other illuminated road users, such as oncoming vehicles or vehicles traveling in front. Once detected via a camera positioned behind the windscreen, the system adjusts the headlamp independently to suit the new traffic conditions. Whilst these new systems combine to make the driver safer, the SLC offers further enhancements to drivability. The SLC’s vario-roof combines open-top driving pleasure with uncompromised comfort in poor

weather… and now operating the electrohydraulic roof is even more straightforward. If when opening or closing the roof the vehicle has to move off due to the traffic conditions, the process which was started at standstill can be continued up to a speed of approx. 40 km/h. Another new feature is the automatic boot separator (in conjuction with the optional extra vario-roof convenience feature or KEYLESS-GP). If the separator is in the upper position for increased boot capacity, it automatically moves down when the roof is opened, unless the boot is full. Whether up or down, the SLC promises an enjoyable drive, thanks to the MAGIC SKY CONTROL, a unique feature to the SLC. This feature allows the driver to lighten or darken the glass roof at the touch of a button, enabling the model to provide an open-air feeling at any time, whilst also offering shade under a hot sun. The post-facelift SLC also offers an even higherquality look inside. Highlights include the new light (standard) and dark aluminium trim parts with a carbon fibre finish. The instrument cluster has a new design too, offering two tubular instrument surrounds now featuring black dials. Red needles also add to the sporty, contemporary design. With so many advancements making the SLC one of a kind, it really is hard to believe the brand has progressed so much in such a short space of time. Not only does it live up to its predecessor, but we believe it truly surpasses all expectations… and then some.

Expanding The Coupé Segment of SUV Make way for the all-new GLC Coupé

Hot on the heels of its big sister, the GLE Coupé, this autumn welcomes the arrival of the all-new GLC Coupé. Unveiled in Shanghai in 2015 it has quickly become a highly admired model; one that unites the typical stylistic elements of a Coupé with the design language of the current SUV models. Now one year later, the GLC Coupé has advanced into series production, virtually unchanged, ready-andwaiting to take the UK market by storm. Impressing with its brand-typical safety features, modern assistance systems and an especially sporty-dynamic character, the mid-size SUV offers comfort, no matter the terrain. Praised for its styling philosophies and contemporary luxury, the Coupé offers almost eight centimetres in extra length and is four centimetres lower than the multi-talented GLC, with which it shares its basic architecture. Distinct in its own right thanks to a typically Coupéesque, single loured diamond radiator grille and a restyled, dropping roofline, its sporty ambitions can be seen at first glance. With an elegantly flowing, muscular rear end, typical of a Coupé, short overhang and an SUV-inspired override guard, every angle dominates. It is these looks, these athletic details that enable the Coupé to hug the road whether on unpaved tracks,

unsurfaced roads or city streets. Combined with the as-standard sports suspension, including DYNAMIC SELECT with five transmission modes, drivers can select their desired handling, opting for ECO at one end to SPORT+ which makes occupants feel as though they are sitting in a sports car. Inside, the distinctive elements continue with the centre console and dashboard defining flow in line, with a large, one-piece console panel and a semi-integrated media display, giving a feeling of spaciousness while conveying modernity at its best. Available in a total of eight model variants, customers can choose between four diesel and four petrol engines, including a plug-in hybrid as well as a powerful Mercedes-AMG model. Further displaying its innovative stance and progressive nature, Mercedes-Benz has, without doubt, pushed every boundary possible with the launch of the new model... and we can’t wait for it to arrive.

Endless Choice

Never one to sit still, Mercedes-Benz has now expanded its recently facelifted A-Class to offer even more diversification and demand within the hatchback range

Launching a brand new look and feel in September 2012, the current model has been a success for Mercedes-Benz since first arriving. A clear detachment from the previous style, it was championed as the AM New Car of the Year within a year of launch, and has since gone on to win four titles at the Fleet World Honours event and more recently the Fleet Car of the Year accolade at the ACFO Awards. Now the new generation, which experienced a facelift late last year, has welcomed even further choice with the re-introduction of a base A 160 engine range. Adding to five existing petrol options, including the stunning Mercedes-AMG A 45 4MATIC, the A 160 marks a new entry level to the premium brand, whilst retaining the hallmark values and quality seen throughout the entire portfolio. Launching in SE, Sport and AMG Line petrol variants, the new A 160 remains true to the model range retaining its compact class characteristics. With each model line carrying the same style as their larger engine counterparts, the stunning A 160 Sport 16

welcomes the same chrome trim parts, single louvre grille in silver, visible twin tailpipes in polished stainless steel and 17 5-twin-spoke alloy wheels. It features new technology, including the handling programme DYNAMIC SELECT, which allows drivers to adjust transmission modes to suit road conditions and each driving style. The interior stands out with either black or crystal grey ARTICO leather seats combined with a chequerboard trim, while THERMOTRONIC luxury automatic climate control and an 8-inch Media Display come as standard. Retaining the striking lines, dynamically curved surfaces and coupÊ-like window lines which have characterised the A-Class since its concept in 2011, the new generation also offers a more arrow-shaped front bumper to emphasise the model’s sporty personality. The instrument cluster hosts a tubular design with high-quality dial graphics whilst drivers can also appreciate the new seat cushion depth which has been adjusted by up to 60mm as standard on all models. The first Mercedes-Benz model to be available with

comprehensive smartphone integration, the A-Class now hosts infotainment systems Apple® CarPlay® (for iPhone® owners) and MirrorLink® which launched earlier this year. In the case of Apple® CarPlay® the system supports telephoning, navigation and listening to music, receiving and sending SMS and emails as well as Siri voice control. To avoid distracting the driver during a journey, only the relevant smartphone content is displayed on-screen. At the same time, the new generation telematics were introduced into the A-Class. The operation is now even more intuitive, with the functions accompanied by animated menus and visual depictions on the even larger display in the head unit. With a price point to match, the A 160 benefits from a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, with a 7G-DCT automatic option allowing drivers to travel in comfort. Achieving 0 – 62 mph in just 10.6 seconds and with a top speed of 118 mph, the new addition certainly holds its own when it comes to the road. Matched with a combined fuel consumption of 52.3 mpg in the SE, the A-Class range answers all requirements and driving desires. Kings Of The Road

Experiencing the full range of the Mercedes-AMG portfolio The menacing roar of a Mercedes-AMG engine is simply second to none. Speeding across an abandoned airfield with the high-performance all-new SL 63 and its aggressive AMG brother, the A 45, it’s no wonder heads turned at every corner, twist and turn.

Recently enhanced with updated technology and an even more expressive design, the SL 63 is without doubt an eye-catcher. The front section features a completely new design, with a broad radiator grille that draws the eye down and an A-wing front spoiler, it could be said that there’s nothing better. The stylish light signature and highly comprehensive scope of standard equipment and appointments underscore the highquality impression. The engine sets a benchmark in the highperformance roadster segments with a 5.5 litre V8 biturbo engine which generates an output of 430 kW (585 hp) and peak torque of 900 Nm. Mixed with sports suspensions based on Active Body control, the rear-axle differential lock which now features as standard, and the even more responsive AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports 22

transmission it's clear that this is a car not to be messed with. Of course it wasn’t all about the stunning facelifted model, the equally impressive A 45 more than held its own. Bursting with AMG credentials ranging from the AMG front apron with front splitter in titanium grey with black details, to 18” AMG alloy wheels with red brake callipers and AMG sports exhaust system with two twin chrome-plated tailpipes, the A 45 took itself very seriously. Offering a pace of 0 – 62 mph in 4.2 seconds and an electrically limited top speed of 155 mph, there was no denying the model was a sheer masterpiece. Both matched in the highest quality of style and finesse, the SL 63 and A 45 are perfect demonstrations of how successful and varied the current Mercedes-AMG collection is. With a model available to suit all

needs, and a range of entry level engine options set to bring the series into new markets this year, the performance car segment is without doubt one of choice and innovation. Providing a touch of racing class to modern day driving, every aspect has been taken into consideration, making the models superior when it comes to pleasure, comfort and safety too. From the finest nappa leather finishes inside, to the highest spec of design seen from the road, the Mercedes-AMG collection is simply stunning.

Exhilarating power. The Mercedes-AMG A 45 4MATIC.

The Mercedes-AMG A 45 4MATIC is bursting with AMG credentials ranging from the AMG front apron with front splitter in titanium grey with black flics, 18” AMG alloy wheels with red brake calipers and ‘AMG’ lettering, as well as the AMG sports exhaust system with two twin chromeplated tailpipes and an AMG diffuser-look rear apron.

Introducing the New Face of AMG

Mercedes-Benz welcomes a new entry level to the ground breaking AMG collection with the introduction of the Mercedes-AMG 43 collection. We introduced some of the front runners in the collection, with more still to be revealed over coming months. C 43 Saloon Powered by a vigorous V6 engine, the Mercedes-AMG C 43 4MATIC is a true performance car. 18” AMG alloy wheels, AMG bodystyling and ‘AMG’ lettering – visible on the front brake calipers and the diamond grille with chrome pins – all point to a sporty pedigree. The ‘BITURBO 4MATIC’ lettering references all-wheel drive for superior driving dynamics.

C 43 Estate

C 43 Saloon

C 43 Coupé The new Mercedes-AMG C 43 4MATIC Coupé propels driving dynamics to the next level. AMG performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive and tailor-made chassis technology provide maximum agility, while the 9G-TRONIC transmission translates the power of the energetic V6-engine to the tarmac. The muscular exterior with BITURBO 4MATIC lettering on the front wings is fitted with AMG bodystyling including a front apron with distinctive air intakes, AMG side sill panels and an AMG diffuser-look rear apron. A true masterpiece at work. 24

Equally packed with the energy seen in its Saloon and Coupé sisters, the Estate interior features ARTICO leather/ DINAMICA microfibre sports seats with red contrast stitching repeated on the ARTICO leather dashboard. For maximum effect, red seat belts and floor mats with black leather edging, AMG logo and red piping are also set against the high-gloss black with aluminium trim.

GLE 43 Sporty, distinctive, powerful – it’s written all over the new MercedesAMG GLE 43 4MATIC. This bold V6-model asserts itself with 20” AMG 5-twinspoke alloy wheels, AMG bodystyling and the eyecatching Night package. A black apron features at the rear, while the sports exhaust system with AMG twin tailpipes emits a mighty engine sound and characteristic backfiring noise. Inside, the dynamic performer boasts a 3-spoke AMG sports steering wheel in black nappa leather to match the black ARTICO leather seats, as well as brushed light aluminium trim. The instrument panel comes in a distinctive chequered flag design, while brushed stainless steel sports pedals are also standard.

SLC 43

SLC 43 A roadster like a thunderbolt: forceful, unmistakeable. Sonorous 367 hp (270 kW) and a torque of 520 Nm catapult it from 0 – 62 mph in 4.7 seconds. Pressed into the sports seats in nappa leather / DINAMICA microfibre by the acceleration, the sports steering wheel with gearshift paddles firmly in hand, the AMG excitement sweeps you away. Everything points to sport on the exterior, too: 18” AMG alloy wheels, painted black or titanium grey with a high-sheen finish, two chromed tailpipe trims with a centrepiece, black exterior mirrors – and the inimitable face of AMG.

GLE 43 Coupé

C 43 Estate

GLC 43 The first Mercedes-AMG among the GLC line-up and the only petrol model, this V6 GLC 43 4MATIC combines powerful performance with sporty looks. The ‘BITURBO 4MATIC’ lettering points to all-wheel drive for superior driving dynamics, matched by bicolour 19” AMG alloy wheels in a 5-twin-spoke design. AMG bodystyling, ‘AMG’ lettering on the front brake calipers and on the distinctive diamond grille also reflect AMG’s style in typical athletic fashion. GLC 43

Muscular, innovative, striking SUV dynamics are at the core of the new Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé. The GLE AMG Line pairs these attributes with an athletic diesel engine, unique AMG styling features and a vast array of technological gems. On the exterior, you’ll notice the 21” AMG alloy wheels, AMG bodystyling on front and rear bumpers as well as the beltline trim with chrome-look finish. The interior sets the scene with nappa leather upholstery and a brushed light aluminium trim, whilst the AIRMATIC air suspension with Adaptive Damping System Plus and DYNAMIC SELECT offers a choice of driving modes to suit the terrain you’re on, ensuring a highly smooth, yet engaging drive. 25

A Day In The Life Of... E 220d AMG Line

Name: Iain Cruickshank Age: 55 Business: Elecheck (EST) Limited Position: Managing Director

Tell us a bit about your business I started my business in 1993 undertaking electrical testing and compliance work to meet insurance and H&S requirements. Within the first couple of years we secured major contracts with organisations such as British Gas, Holiday Inn, London Electricity, Sanctuary Housing Association and Thames Water. We grew organically yearon-year increasing our client list and retaining over 90% of our clients (we are still approved/ working with Thames Water, Sanctuary HA and British Gas). We now operate nationally, employing over 100 staff in England, Scotland and Wales to service one-off and term contracts.

How long have you run your company fleet?

26

We currently run a fleet of 70 vehicles, which still amazes all colleagues who can remember when I had to sell my first

Mercedes-Benz C-Class to raise funds for the deposits to start our van fleet. Thankfully, that time has passed!

What made you opt for the Mercedes-Benz brand? The Mercedes-Benz is synonymous with quality, reliability, style and high quality customer service. All attributes that any company would like to think that their business could match up to. Few companies have managed to emulate what the Mercedes-Benz brand has achieved, but owning or driving such an aspirational brand is not only a pleasure but a business inspiration and a marker in the sand of what can be achieved in design, innovation and on a day-today customer service delivery. But, most of all I’ve really enjoyed all of the eight Mercedes-Benz I’ve driven in the past 20 years – in particular the SL and CLS…now they bring a smile to anyone’s face!

How does the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class compliment your business needs?

How did you find the service provided by the Robinsons Corporate Team?

I believe that the new E-Class is the epitome of an executive luxury business car – it makes a statement without having to say anything, which hopefully says something about my business, without me having to say too much.

I have dealt with Gareth Harris and the Corporate Team for several years – Gareth has managed to source a car, structure an amazing deal using the strong residual values that all Mercedes-Benz cars command… and do it with a smile! How do I find the Robinsons Corporate Team? Simply put, they make the process to simple and pleasurable, whether purchase, lease of structure or a PCP arrangement for corporate customers.

What was the main aspect of the E-Class that attracted you to it? I have driven several variants of the E-Class model, but the latest E220 d has raised the bar again. The build quality is superb, styling classically understated with an extremely smooth, quiet and powerful engine. An amazingly comfortable car, with low CO2 emissions… and of course low BIK code.

How do you think the new E-Class compares to its predecessor? The new E-Class is as you would expect from a new Mercedes-Benz same quality package incorporating up to date styling with yet another giant technological leap forward. It can’t be compared to its predecessors as each E–Class of its time was a quality built car with state of the art technology of its time. This is a next generation car.

What does an average day consist of? It is a 20-25 min drive into the office which I enjoy and gives me time to think and listen to news and events. I am normally in the office at 7:30-8:00AM to find that several colleagues are already in and the business already up and

running. As Managing Director, I see my role as primarily coordinating trained and skilled people to do the right things at the right time… (my colleagues may see my involvement differently, however!) I expect everyone in the company to do their very, very best each and every day and treat clients in the same way we want to be treated. I try and keep ‘all the plates spinning at the right speed’ no day is the same with a bit of ‘spinning’ required either in the sales, finance, administration, planning or engineering…with either too much or too little work and/or staff in one or more department – but that is electrical compliance contracting, and it is definitely easier running the business, than our household – maybe my wife, Rebecca, deserves a new car rather than me?

What does the Mercedes-Benz brand mean to you? Quality, Reliability and Style.

Which Mercedes-Benz model is your dream car? I have owned and/or driven C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, SL and my last Mercedes-Benz was a CLS 250. All were a dream car at a different stage of my life. I now harbour a secret desire for a Mercedes-Benz AMG-A45 4MATIC…but I am not sure whether that would be approved of at home… or work!

Cabrio Fun In The City Enjoying the sunshine in the smart fortwo cabrio

Celebrating the blazing sunshine seen in July, there was no better time to get behind the wheel of the new smart fortwo cabrio, and with a trip to Cambridge in mind, it was the perfect model for the job. Premiered in September last year at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt, the new fortwo cabrio has been making headlines across the globe. Building on an 18 year history, smart’s latest venture truly has pushed the brand into new markets, astounding all visitors since its arrival in our showroom this year. Testament to this, and a sign that it is becoming an icon of its own making, the city car can now even be seen in the New York Museum of Modern Art. Permanently installed alongside Picasso, Warhol and Dali’s work, it’s not bad company for the brains behind the car, namely Mercedes-Benz and Swatch. Back in the glistening surroundings of Cambridge, as the smart fortwo cabrio left the dealership, steering straight onto the bustling backdrop of Barnwell Road, it was easy to fall instantly in love. The light power steering, mixed with the tight 6.95m turning circle of the cabrio, made each manoeuvre a dream. Sliding the canvas sunroof down at full speed, taking a total of twelve seconds, we made our way into the city celebrating the second of the three variants the car offered. From a closed two-seater into a car with a large sliding canvas sunroof and the, yet to be experienced, fully fledged cabriolet with the soft top completely open it was clear why many classed the new model as three cars in one.

Clearly recognisable as a member of the new smart generation, the third model embodies the smart design philosophy, radiating fun at every angle. Catching a glimpse of the car in the shop windows as we queued through the city’s traffic, the clear lines, shapes and surfaces all mirrored the new wave of thinking. Offering a fading honeycomb design and rhombic headlamps, the face was unmistakably smart. Featuring a narrower b-pillar, when compared to the closed variant, the progressive look gave the smart fortwo cabrio an even sportier and forward-focused look. Parking in one of the city’s side streets, the ease of mobility, class-leading side on parking and the 2.96m length really came into its own. No angle too difficult, no space too small (almost!) it really was a city-dwellers dream. Hopping out of the comfortable seating to remove the side roof bars, the cabrio moved into a completely new segment. Stowing the bars in the tailgate, the soft top reclined completely, letting the full blaze of summertime in and perfectly demonstrating the fact that it is the only true cabriolet in its class.

Nipping through the city, with the wind billowing through the now completely open interior, the 90bhp engine gave more than enough power for getting up through the twists and turns of Cambridge’s back streets. Offering up to 65.7 mpg and an impressive top speed of 96 mph, the cabrio delights on every level. Inside, the roomy cabin offers Bluetooth, AUX and USB connections, multifunction steering wheel controls, climate control and LED daytime running lights as standard, making it all the more comfortable to explore the city in.

With an impressive safety portfolio, and the claim to the most rigid smart cabrio ever made, it seems the designers have left no stone unturned in their latest venture. Introducing a range of personalised choices for both the cells and tridon colours, this model continues the edgy style previously seen by the brand whilst also offering something a little extra for the sports-seekers out there. With adequate space to stow the day’s shopping, some of the easiest parking experienced and the impressive horse power felt at every turn, the smart fortwo cabrio is fast becoming one city sprinter we will all look out for.

Meet The Smartest Team In Town

Engineered by Mercedes-Benz, smart has always caught the attention of motorists. Whether for its city car ethos or the innovative styling seen in recent years, there seems no slowing it down. With three smiling faces behind our fantastic dealerships in Cambridge, Norwich and Peterborough, find out why they love working for the brand.

What do you enjoy most about working for smart?

Marc Cannon Role: smart Sales Executive Location: smart of Cambridge

Most of all the customers, no two are the same! Also, the great feeling I get when a customer sees their new smart for the first time and the smile on their face.

How has the product changed in recent years? The product has literally evolved into these brilliant, fun cars that not only tick all of the boxes on a cosmetic level but a practical one also. From turning circles to power steering, boot size to fuel economy and affordability. The strongest evidence I see on a day to day basis working here

32

in Cambridge is when a person who might have not considered a smart in the past suddenly finds themselves on a test drive and loving every minute of it.

What does the smart brand mean to me? It means to be different and to be proud about that. It means individuality. The range of colours available with both the body and tridion cell means drivers can pretty much design their ideal car. The improved and more powerful 90bhp engine enables you to motor along the main roads quite happily and then you can park anywhere you want in the city. Perfect!

Tom Broocks Role: smart Sales Executive and Star Expert Location: smart of Peterborough

What made you want to work for smart? Both Mercedes-Benz and smart have such a diverse range of models all striving to be the best. With a huge choice of customisation options and a choice of models to suit all needs and budgets there is a car for everyone. Not many people will know, but smart stands for Swatch Mercedes Art. Swatch loves the idea of customisation so they wanted to use this concept in the motor industry – and Mercedes-Benz welcomed the idea with open arms. The only stipulation Swatch had when deciding the brand name was the first letter had to signify Swatch.

What is your favourite smart model and why? For me, my favourite smart model is the forfour. Practicality and space are plenty and with a vast choice of trim levels and colours available you really can make them your own.

If you could describe the smart brand in three words what would they be? Fun, versatile, smart.

33

Why did you join smart of Norwich? I joined smart of Norwich simply because of the professional, friendly team here - and the instant warm welcoming feeling on entering the business. I was, and still am, very excited about the new smart brand, and ongoing developments in the technology.

What part of your job do you find most interesting? The most interesting part in my position at smart is the customers I meet on a daily basis. I find the smart customers to be extremely vibrant, positive, and very interesting people. I love the general topics of conversation and feel the transaction from vehicle enquiry, to sale flows so effortlessly.

What feature of a smart car is your favourite and why? My favourite feature on the new smart car is definitely the impressive steering. The latest model boasts a remarkable turning circle, shaving 1.5 metres off the previous record. And that’s even with an extra 3.9 inches more width than the previous model! Also - new and equally impressive is the dual plate automatic transmission. It ensures the car flows through the gears swiftly, and extremely smoothly. In my book these two features have put smart right at the top of their game.

Ride Of Endurance

Mercedes-Benz of Peterborough shows its support for the Tour of Cambridgeshire

Returning for the second consecutive year, the Tour of Cambridgeshire came back with a vengeance. Joined by 8,000 riders across the weekend, the entire Cambridgeshire region was hit by cyclists from all over the country, each eager to take part in the Chrono Time Trial and the Grand Fondo Race on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Leading the pack once again, Mercedes-Benz of Peterborough joined the ranks, offering an outstanding portfolio of German models for all to admire. With the Mercedes-AMG C 63 Saloon stealing the show, cyclists were able to follow the stunning model around the 80 mile track, each enjoying the roar of its engine at every corner. The two day weekend event, which also forms the UK’s only closed road event, stopped all in their tracks as thousands of cyclists covered the roads of our area, bringing thousands more spectators to the roadside to cheer them on. Working alongside the Mercedes-Benz team at Orwell Truck & Van, the three pointed star could be seen at every corner, turn and rest station. Taking part as the official vehicle partner for the event, the team from Mercedes-Benz of Peterborough stepped up to the mark transporting key race officials and performing the first circuit sweep after road closures throughout the weekend. With the new E-Class covering the circuit, the driver support systems came into their own allowing drivers to customise the digital drive technology to 40

their desired field. Working with the navigation and speedometer, as most suited to the race, the E-Class delivered a more comfort, efficient and connected drive than ever before. “We were extremely pleased to take part in this event once again,” said Richard Wheeler, General Manager for Mercedes-Benz of Peterborough. “Not only is it a fantastic opportunity to display the ever growing portfolio of cars offered by the brand, but it’s a great community event that we’re proud to be a part of.” Revealing a range of the newest releases, including the stunning SLC roadster, the event was a great success once again for all involved. Sponsoring this year’s VIP area, namely Club Kermesse, and hosting an impressive display in the expanding EXPO area, there was no escaping the Mercedes-Benz message. Cyclists joined the EXPO stand throughout the day, admiring the static E-class Saloon on display and also sneaking a glance at its sibling, the smart fortwo coupé, which joined the display from smart of Peterborough throughout the weekend. Entering our own Mercedes-Benz team once again, the Peterborough dealership was pleased to support

a strong line-up of cyclists, each proudly wearing a branded jersey to show their support. Joining the group, customer Jonathan Tully, said: “It was a fantastic event, and a privilege to ride for Mercedes-Benz Team again. Last year I rode at an average speed of 19.7 miles per hour, and this year I achieved an average of 20.7. Having made the commitment to improve last year, I am really pleased to have achieved my target with the support of Robinsons Mercedes-Benz.” Another team member, Craig Turner, commented: “It was an amazing experience, although it pushed me to the limit. I finished the Gran Fondo course in just under five hours (inclusive of two pit stops) which was half an hour faster than I had predicted. I was particularly impressed with the jersey that you provided, and will continue to wear it with pride throughout the summer.” Lucky to have the sun shining for the second year running, the event has been praised by all that took part, with many already signed up to compete in next year’s race…. And Mercedes-Benz of Peterborough is most definitely one of them.

GLA To The Rescue

Mercedes-Benz of Cambridge supports the Cambridge 100 Bike Event Joining many on a frosty Sunday morning, the Mercedes-Benz of Cambridge team participated in the Cambridge 100 Bike Event, touring the outskirts of the city... in style. Supporting the annual event, which challenges cyclists to complete a 100 mile route in aid of Prostate Cancer Research, Mercedes-Benz led the way in two of our stunning GLA’s. Providing support for the cyclists, both cars were seen around the route which started and finished at Impington Village College, just outside of the city. A fun day for all, the event was the perfect arena in which to demonstrate the ever-increasing range of SUVs in the Mercedes-Benz portfolio. Fixed with a bike rack on each, the sporty models showed that bigger isn’t always better using the 4MATIC all-wheel drive to deliver a powerful performance. Demonstrating perfect handling along the undulating countryside roads and brilliant traction through the twists and turns of the route, the new four-cylinder engine proved exceptionally agile when it really mattered.

Commenting on the event, General Manager of Mercedes-Benz of Cambridge, Mick Jolly, said: “It’s great to work alongside such established community events, and something that we’re proud to support. The Cambridge 100 is a tough course, but one that attracts a range of cycling enthusiasts while providing much needed awareness and support to Prostate Cancer Research. "Our GLA’s looked fantastic out on the road, and were the perfect model to assist troubled cyclists, with the lowered roofline making it easy to load the bikes on top. It was a great day for all, and I’d like to pass my congratulations on to all the participants.” With the sun finally coming out as the last few riders arrived at the finish line, the event was deemed a success and one that Mercedes-Benz of Cambridge are extremely proud to support.

Match Play Mercedes-Benz of Cambridge supports Cambridge United Football Club Cambridge United Football Club

www.mercedesbenzofcambridge. co.uk

With the temptation of the play offs in sight, Cambridge United Football Club enjoyed an enthralling match against Carlisle United Football Club this summer. Supported by Mercedes-Benz of Cambridge, the match was covered with sporting charisma from start to finish. Showcasing the all-terrain GLA pitchside before the game, and the sporty A-Class and C-Class Coupé beside the U’s Club Shop, spectators were able to enjoy a different kind of sporting style from first arrival. Watching the game from start to finish, General Manager Mick Jolly kept a keen eye on the young stars as they battled it out on the field, looking to champion his chosen Man of the Match later in the day.

Despite Carlisle going down to 10 men in the first half, both teams struggled to find the cutting edge to break the deadlock and two well organised defences cancelled each other out to result in a goalless draw. “Cambridge United Football Club is a longstanding organisation within the city, and one that we’re proud to work alongside,” commented Mick Jolly after the match. “It’s great to see the supporters walking along Newmarket Road week after week, and the atmosphere felt at the grounds is always fantastic. “With so many models in our current range, being able to showcase our latest Coupé offering alongside the sporty A-Class and GLA SUV model is second to none, and we thank the team at Cambridge United for making it all happen.” Awarding Cambridge United player, Darnell Furlong, Man of the Match following a solid defensive performance, the day concluded with a presentation and meet and greet with the player. 45

Let The Games Begin Mercedes-Benz of Kings Lynn spends a sporting summer at the West Norfolk Village Games Returning for the 24th year, the West Norfolk Village Games welcomed local villages to compete for the title of ‘Best in the West’ in a sporting battle for pole position. Always raring to go, Mercedes-Benz of Kings Lynn took the opportunity to get involved sending along some of its sporty models to support the crowds. With heats held across May and June, the competition proved stiff as over 500 participants battled to see their village crowned champion. Offering a total of 19 events, it was clear to see that this year’s venue was bursting at the seams with sporting talent. General Manager of Mercedes-Benz, James Keech, was particularly impressed with the level of enthusiasm from the surrounding villages, commenting: “Mercedes-Benz of Kings Lynn continuously looks for ways in which to support the local community, and the West Norfolk Village Games provided just that opportunity. “We’re proud to support such a positive initiative, and am glad to see that this year has been as successful as previous years. Congratulations to the winners.” Welcoming participants from 14 communities, aged between eight and 80, the annual competition saw

defending champions from the village of Terrington St Clement drop to third position as the villages of Feltwell and Dersingham took first and second respectively. King’s Lynn Deputy Mayor Carol Bower, who delivered the winning presentations, said: “These games have been going for 24 years and what impresses me is the age range of people taking part.” Championed as the village’s ‘mini Olympic Games’, this year’s West Norfolk Village Games winners and runners up from Feltwell and Dersingham will now go on to represent West Norfolk in the county village games finals which are due to be held at Norwich Sportspark on 10th July. Showcasing an impressive range across the two month period, Mercedes-Benz of Kings Lynn were proud to display the stunning C-Class Coupé, the all-new SLC and our recently facelifted SL at the event, with the striking elbaite green GLA joining the finals. An impressive local community event, the team are now looking forward to seeing one of the West Norfolk candidates championed at the finals this month.

Driving Sporting Ambition

The Mercedes-Benz Golf Trophy returns Welcoming customers from across all five Robinsons Mercedes-Benz retailers, the Mercedes-Benz Golf Trophy returned once again this summer with a series of qualifying heats across East Anglia. Launching this year’s competition, customers from Mercedes-Benz of Cambridge and Mercedes-Benz of Peterborough joined together at Brampton Park Golf Club in May tackling the troublesome course as a fourball in Stableford style. Located on the outskirts of Brampton within easy reach of both the A1 and A14, the traditional 18 hole parkland course offered a picturesque setting to the competition’s first heat, whilst testing the skill levels of all who entered. Praised for its fiendish doglegs and fourth hole which has been voted the hardest par 3 in England, it was definitely a day of steep competition. Enjoying an evening meal before Transaction Manager Ian Finbow presented the evening’s podium positions to the top three players in three handicap categories, it was safe to say the competition was off to a good start. The second regional heat saw Mercedes-Benz of Bury St Edmunds and Mercedes-Benz of Kings Lynn takeover the stunning grounds of Thetford Golf Club. A heathland course renowned for being one of the finest in East Anglia, guests were greeted with excellent facilities and an incredibly manicured course. 50

Challenging in parts, the teams enjoyed the magnificent Breckland Forest area of East Anglia, which offered impressive views across the entire fairway. With many having played at the course in last year’s heat, it was great to see such a mix of new and returning faces enjoying the 2016 Trophy competition. As the final heat took place at Barnham Broom Golf Course in June, the competitive nature of the Trophy took over, with more than 50 customers attending from Mercedes-Benz of Norwich. The largest heat

every year, the players enjoyed a two tee start, with plenty of mixed four-ball groups working their way across the Club’s Valley Course. Featuring abundant water features and a natural landscape, the course has welcomed many European PGA Satellite Tour events, and is now firmly established on the Norfolk Open rota. Offering gorgeous views across Norwich’s green belt, the group enjoyed glorious sunshine throughout the day. With all three events showing their support to the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices’ charity, The Nook Appeal, players were all invited to join in a brand new putting competition on completion of their 18 hole round. Tackling some challenging shots, and helping to raise £395 in total for a very worthwhile charity, we’d like to thank everyone who took part. As each heat ended with a delicious three course meal and awards presentation, it was great to see the final 27 players forming as the events progressed. Finally welcoming the successful players from each heat to the final at Sprowston Manor Hotel in July, the winner title of our regional trophy was most certainly in the eye line of all involved. Playing across the absolutely stunning course, each player battled it out for the final winning position, which would see them go on to play at St George’s Hill Golf Course, and represent Robinsons Mercedes-Benz on a national level. With only three positions available, one in each handicap category, the day finally revealed the winners as Mark Nixon, a customer of Mercedes-Benz of Kings Lynn, alongside Graham Knights and Dean Peruzzi, both customers of Mercedes-Benz of Norwich.

Fine Style At Norwich Fashion Week

Mercedes-Benz of Norwich joins the #FashPack at this year’s event

The cameras were flashing, the models were strutting and the front row was buzzing… all in time for this year’s Norwich Fashion Week to get underway. Launching the inaugural event, the Mercedes-Benz of Norwich Retailer Show saw a fittingly glamourous catwalk show take over the city’s popular venue, The Open, much to the delight of the awaiting crowds. But the fashion wasn’t just seen on the catwalk that evening. Marking the entrance to the event, the Mercedes-AMG GT got more than a few gasps of excitement as the designo Diamond White dazzled on approach. Followed closely by the C-Class Saloon, A-Class, all-new C-Class Coupé and finally the GLE Coupé, the style talents were at an all-time high. Celebrating the best of both high street and independent retailers in Norwich, including John Lewis, Vanilla and Ginger, the event set a high standard for upcoming shows

later that week. Taking place on a raised catwalk, every aspect of the models’ clothing could be seen, as they struck a pose at the end of the stage in a mannequin inspired fashion. With every seat filled, the fast paced show gave onlookers a glimpse of the summer’s fashions with pastel and floral trends reigning supreme. Channelled with nautical stripes and bold bright red accessories, both female and male models make the event come to life. Commenting after the show, General Manager of Mercedes-Benz of Norwich, Mark Allman, said: “We were proud to support Norwich Fashion Week for the third year, and will continue to do so. The event is a perfect showcase of the talents within the city, and one that Mercedes-Benz is extremely proud to be involved with. “This year we invited the fashion into the showroom, not only with a photoshoot amongst our

Mercedes-AMG range, but also a full preview catwalk event. It was great to offer our customers something different, and strengthen the relationship that Mercedes-Benz holds with the world of fashion on both a local and national level through the likes of London Fashion Week. “This show was exceptionally well presented, showcasing a style and innovation seen across our own models.” With more than 300 guests cheering as the lights went down on the Week’s first evening, the Mercedes-Benz of Norwich Retailers Show definitely set the mark to beat. The Tantalising Taste of Tuddenham

Enjoying an exquisite evening at the stunning watermill

When it comes to exceptional dining, Tuddenham Mill is undoubtedly noted. Not only has it recently been recognised as Suffolk’s Best Restaurant in the Suffolk Food and Drink Awards 2016, but its Commis Chef, Max Cameron, has also been named as Young Chef of the Year. Set in the idyllic Suffolk countryside, the traditional watermill offers some simply stunning views, surrounded by nature and beauty of its own making. The mill pond offers an abundance of outdoor seating spaces and is even complete with adorable ducklings that float by peacefully. Offering 15 beautifully designed bedrooms, a relaxing bar area and a conference room that has seen many of the region’s finest businesses inside, Tuddenham Mill is everything you need and more. Having played host to many private parties and weddings already this year, the intimate and private venue has proven the destination of choice time and time again. Visiting the idyllic setting one evening this summer, my guest and I were greeted by Tuddenham’s Head Chef Lee Bye, a talent who has earned a 2 AA rosette award and the title of the prestigious Good Food Guide Editor’s Award in 2015. Having joined the team just over two years ago, Lee’s undoubtable talents have already had a big impact on the Mill and its restaurant. Recently presented with the 62

Acorn Award, which handpicks 30 rising stars under the age of 30 from every sector of the UK’s hospitality industry, his achievements have most definitely not gone unnoticed. Explaining his love for the role, the team and the restaurant, Lee said: “I’m continuing the work I set out from my first day to make Tuddenham Mill a venue of choice. Whether you want to pop down for a drink at the bar with friends, enjoy a mid-week meal or even visit us for Sunday lunch, making the venue accessible to all is a must. “I’m proud to still be working with the same core team that I started with, and we’re still very excited about creating new dishes throughout the seasons. My team are growing in their talents, so much so that I can occasionally enjoy a day off,” he laughed. Sitting down in the modern restaurant, my eyes greedily devoured the menu. Offering a dish for every taste, we happily settled on a starter of Jacobs’s Ladder beef short rib, hazelnuts, pak choi, shiitake mushroom, and soy, and a bowl of the finest Shetland mussels, St Edmund’s golden ale, garlic and crispy kale. As the two dishes arrived at our table, conversation came to a halt. Exquisite in design, and melt-in-themouth delicious, the two dishes were devoured within seconds. The mussels offered a delicately cooked

mouthful, each tender and offering a light fish taste combined perfectly with the golden ale sauce and kale to ensure each flavour lightly complimented one another. The ribs meanwhile offered a full flavour sensation, pulling on the sweetness of the meat, crispy base of the hazelnuts and a soft delicate flavour of the mushrooms. Pulled together by the sweet finish of the soy it truly was a masterpiece at work. As our plates were cleared, we were able to enjoy the surroundings of the busy restaurant, which had welcomed a full house mid-week. Testament to Lee’s desire to make Tuddenham Mill a venue of choice for all occasions it was great to see the evening being enjoyed by so many. As the main event arrived, bringing a duck ‘Creedy Carver’, wild celery barley, golden beetroot, dandelion, bacon and sloe gin, as well as the black bream, Debenham cider, brown shrimps, St Jacques sauces, herb spaetzle, lettuce and seaweed butter, we knew this was where Lee had really set out to impress.

The duck, cooked pink throughout, was exactly as requested, providing a succulent, flavoursome mouthful with every bite. A sweet meat, Lee’s combination of the salty bacon and soft celery was absolutely perfect, making a dish that I could have eaten over and over again. Sneaking a forkful of my guest's black bream, the fish was simply divine. Cooked to perfection and topped with the distinct taste from the shrimps, the dish was pulled together with a comforting taste of cider and sauces making it a light, yet fully wholesome meal. Nearly full to the brim, the dessert menu was unfortunately impossible to deny. Opting for the bitter chocolate pot and a portion of the banana and olive oil sponge, with vanilla ice cream, sea salt toffee and blackberries, the two dishes provided the perfect finish to our trip. As we savoured the last mouthful of each dish, it’s no wonder many diners are returning time and time again to the stunning venue. With so much to offer on each visit, from its seasonally designed menus to its growing list of drinks behind the bar, Tuddenham Mill is certainly on the up… and we can certainly see why.
