FINAL MAJOR PROJECT STATEMENT OF INTENT Name: Richard Robinson Blog Address: http://r‐robinson0912fmp.blogspot.com/ Rationale

An exploration into branding and promotion for print with a focus on image driven solutions

Rationale: Mostly print however if applicable could be applied to screen and motion. I also want to touch on subjects such as high end print and crafting with specialist processes, embossing and foiling. I am interested in highly detailed work that seduces the eye with a strong use of vibrant colour with dark undertones. Like to explore various formats of stock to test and explore how format affects image. Aiming to really push my illustrative skills for my FMP and explore mixed media however the vast majority of my work will favour a digital painter style. Subjects / Themes

   

How branding relates to retail. Where can these products be found ‐ why are they there – audience. Where design sits within retail and it’s positioning within consumer desires. Design for various clients – small to large scale briefs Music and film industry and its audience (Past and present)

Themes  Looking at highly detailed illustrative work that seduces the eye. Aiming to produce resolves that users would want to keep as a desirable piece of work.  Cultural Styles past and present. How previous generations became seduced by products and how that can be applied and replicated today.  Comic art and the various styles within graphic novels  Who is my audience? The user, where they work, where they go to eat, where do they

drink, who do they socialise with, what brings them together, where to they shop and why, what are they shopping for, what seduces them, why does it seduce them, how does it do so, single or married, with or without children, do children alter our ways of consumerism, do we switch from buying out of needs or desires??? Design Disciplines / Creative Development Concerns  Typography – all technical aspects of it  Layout  Crafting of objects / packages I am not interested in design for large corporations. I’m aiming to apply my work to fun, exciting design that is current and cutting edge within the current market. Things I will not be doing this year are character animation, editorial design, fashion and definitely not web. Practical Skills / Workshops – what, why and when? Skills I want to develop  Crafting skills/Testing materials  How to gain regular dialogue with clients  Being able to write emails to studios that get replies  Time management – make the most of it and gain the best resolutions possible within the time  Logo creation – not something I’ve looked into over my time so far  Packaging  Promotional methods and building brand identity with more creative solutions rather than posters and business cards.
