Education Continually looking forward and striving to achieve excellence.

Development as an architecture student For me, university was a continual sequence of trial and error, where learning and progress came from making mistakes and learning from them. Eventually I struck the right balance between designing + presenting. As time went on and especially in my Part two, I became confident at presenting my project at any stage during the design process. My year out was incredibly useful in my development as a young aspiring architect. I excelled in a team context, but also learned

how to be proactive and work individually. My experiences ranged from working on very large projects at the conceptual stage, to working on smaller domestic scale projects at the detail design stages and submitting drawings to Planning and Building Control. Interests I participate in my home church as a youth leader, and as part of a team of camp leaders. I am an avid follower of sport and enjoy watching major sporting events, anything from golf to football! I play hockey for Instonians, and love it! I like to get around on my bike and commuted on two wheels during my time as a student. School World Challenge Expedition, Delhi, 2008. Joint leader of the Senior CU, 2007. Bronze Duke of Edinburgh, 2006.

Experience in Practice Rapport Architects, Belfast.

Sept. 2014 - present I have worked for Rapport Architects a number of times in short spells. My contact with them is ongoing and I do some freelance work. I initially joined Rapport Architects in one of my summers at home, and was able to start working on a number of projects in different sectors. I have gone on site visits, carried out surveys and drawn existing/working drawings,

Feb. - Aug. 2013

At 2020 CM I developed many of the skills I had picked up from previous placements or as a student. I was given a lot of responsibility on projects, mostly domestic scale, at various work stages. I leant how to prepare and submit drawings to Planning & Building Control. On a larger project, I designed a path network in a bungalow

made 3D SketchUp models and worked on Photoshop. Rapport Architects has a mass of experience and have attracted high profile city centre projects. The practice gained public recognition in 2011 when it was awarded the famed BBC ‘House of the Year’ Award for the Scott House in Co. Down. Personal involvement: Dromore residential masterplan (project est.: £8m), Victoria Square Roof Plant Rearrangement, Middleton Building Belfast (ongoing).

estate in Derby, England. The company head has over 25 years experience as an architect and previously established the notable firm 2020 Architects. Projects worked on: Retail Trust Estate Redevelopment, Derby (Project value: £3.5m), House Extension, Belfast (value: £90,000), Chalet new build, Ballymena (value: £250, 000).

Urban Design International, Shenzhen, China.

Nov. 2012 - Feb. 2013 I was thrilled with the chance of working in China. I went to UDI (urban design and architecture company, est. 1995) with another Part 1 student in 2012. During this time my communication skills greatly increased, as I worked as part of a team of

fifteen other designers. Initially I assisted on different projects by altering images completing drawings, until later I was given a more hands-on role where I could give my opinion about design decisions and solutions to problems. The projects were very large (up to and over 1000 ha) masterplans, and that was a good experience to have, particularly before going into my part 2 the following year.
