OVERHAUL – MECHANICAL DESIGN Sudeshna Trilok IIT KGP

The robot designed for the event overhaul has been designed keeping the following factors in mind. It has to be efficient, fast, and simple enough to build with basic hobby robotics components. The Bot has 4 major parts: 1) Suspension and wheels (differential drive) 2)Chassis with storage 3)Pedestal for robotic arm 4)Robotic arm with gripper


1) Suspension and Wheels: The robot has 4 wheels connected to a 12V 100rpm DC motor each. This setup is connected to the chassis via an elbow joint-spring mechanism which provides suspension and damping from the jerks which are experienced due to uneven terrain.


2) Chassis with provision for storage of Blocks: The chassis is a flat surface with a provision as shown for storage. The dimensions of the storage area are 15x35(lxb).


3)Pedestal for Robotic Arm: This pedestal facilitates rotation of the robotic arm about vertical axis and also acts as the base of the arm. The motors powering the arm are affixed on this base.


4)Robotic Arm with Gripper: This is used to pick up blocks and deposit them in the storage region. It has three degrees of freedom, one of which is constrained.
