The 47th Annual Corn Hill Arts Festival Commemorative Poster places the viewer on an evening walk down Atkinson Street in the heart of Rochester’s oldest residential neighborhood. Jim Mott, the 2015 Poster artist reflects on the inspiration to the piece, “There was something cozy but exotic about it, a sense of being slightly in a different time. Night brought out a sense of mystery.” Jim is a Rochester native and an accomplished artist holding an MFA in painting and drawing. His work can be found in private and institutional collections in the US, Canada and Europe, including the collections of the Memorial Art Gallery. “Atkinson Nightwalk”, was painted in 2010 as part of the Itinerant Artist Project (IAP), which took him to 29 states and over 15,000 miles. The project explores the function of art as gift and the effect of a gift economy on productivity as Jim trades his art for a community’s hospitality.
Ride a bike? Park it at our Bike Corral on Exchange St & Fitzhugh Place If you own a private boat, Corn Hill Landing offers docking access. Visit www.cornhillartsfestival.com for details
“The IAP has been pivotal for my development as an artist. Besides giving me new ways to think about my role as a painter, and as a mediator between art and place and public, the touring has stimulated unexpected productivity, and the resulting artwork has drawn local and national attention through a number of articles, exhibits and presentations.” Jim was featured on the Today Show’s American Story. continues on page 8

3RD ANNUAL
FAIRY HOUSES TOUR
(continued from page 4)
“For the poster image, I used the composition of the original study but worked in more color and an overall more lively pattern of brushwork. It was an improvisation on a theme meant to suggest the enchantment you can feel in Corn Hill when the mood catches you said Jim.” Jim Mott’s artwork will be available on collectible merchandise at the 47th Annual Corn Hill Arts Festival. The Merchandise Booth is located at the Frederick Douglas and Adams Street intersection.

NICOLE ANTONINI, 2015 EMERGING ARTISTS EXPO PARTICIPANT
Now in its 7th year, the Emerging Artists Expo gives young artists the opportunity to exhibit and sell their creations for the first-time at a juried show. 25 up-and-coming artists participate in the event from neighboring high schools, colleges and the community at large. The Corn Hill Neighbors began this event so that young artists would have a “real life” experience. MVP Health Care, our sponsor will be on hand with games for visitors. “MVP Health Care is proud to once again support the Emerging Artists Expo,” said Ellen Sax, Director of Community Engagement for MVP Health Care. This expo is an amazing opportunity to recognize the talent, diversity and accomplishments of our Rochester youth and complements our vision of creating the healthiest communities.” The Emerging Artists Expo is newly located on Eagle Street.
