GROW IN CHARACTER AND SCHOLARSHIP

School years should be a golden age for children, a time when they learn who they are, what they can do, and how to succeed in society. That’s why choosing the right primary and secondary education for your child is so important.

The Rockhampton Grammar School has a reputation that extends throughout Australia. For over 130 years, the School has produced outstanding men and women who have been guided by the Latin motto, Macte Virtute Et Litteris, or Grow in Character and Scholarship. These are not merely words. They animate the spirit of everything for which the School stands. Students are offered a multi-faceted education based not only on academics, but also on the expectation that they will participate in co-curricular activities, sport and community service. The rounded nature of the student experience makes our School the most sought-after in Central Queensland. As an overseas parent, you can be confident The Rockhampton Grammar School is the right choice for your child’s long-term future. To provide an ideal English language environment for overseas students, the School has a relatively low number of foreign students, especially when compared with other elite schools in Australia. Our students are predominantly local, which means your child will improve his or her English language ability quickly. Far away from the distractions of the big city – in the tranquil, green environment of Central Queensland – he or she will study quietly, develop areas of personal interest, take full advantage of the School’s extensive resources, and make lifelong friends with Australian students.

Macte Virtute Et Litteris, Grow in Character and Scholarship

On coming to an unfamiliar country and study environment, what happens if there is a problem in study life and even physical and psychological health? This is a common source of concern for parents when selecting a school. In this context, The Rockhampton Grammar School has another advantage when compared with other private schools – we provide complete support for each student. If there is anything the student does not understand, a teacher will patiently explain it after class. If there is a problem with your child’s English language abilities, a specialist English teacher can provide additional language support. If someone is not feeling well or has a fall, the student can be examined any time at the health centre where there is hospitallevel care. If a student is feeling pressured by their studies or is feeling homesick, the School’s full-time psychologist is able to provide counselling. The following pages will explore the advantages of The Rockhampton Grammar School in greater depth. We will cover: • the campus environment and co-curricular facilities • accommodation and campus life • a week in the life of one of our boarders • outstanding academic achievement • positive education • community service • how to enrol “The School means a lot to me. Everyone is so friendly. There is no segregation between groups. I think that’s different from other schools. There’s a lot of students here to help new students. No matter where you come from, you’re never alone.” – Luke Krenske,
