EDITOR’S LETTER

featured image: umaya resort and adventures, honeymoon collective resort

congrats to our cover couple!

Being born and raised in Colorado, I found my love for the Rockies in a state that holds so many beautiful places. Through the years, I’ve been lucky enough to travel to many of the other states across the Rockies and have found a certain charm to all of them. Something about the fresh air blowing through the evergreens, or the sand blowing across the Southwest deserts, and the aqua blue lakes in the north, I couldn’t think of a better place to say “I do!” than the Rockies. As I begin to plan my own Rocky Mountain wedding using RMB, I hope that within these pages you will find all the inspiration and tips you need to make your day everything you want it to be. We’ve scouted the best of the best in your area to provide you trusted local vendors. Happy planning! xo

albuquerque “when i got to new mexico that was mine. as soon as i saw it that was my country. i’d never seen anything like it before, but it fitted to me exactly. it’s something that’s in the air it’s different. the sky is different, the wind is different.” - georgia o’keeffe aspencoast studio

ALBUQUERQUE 101 Advice for a perfect Albuquerque trip featuring favorite spots of the area. Planning ahead for weather can make all of the difference for your guests and you.

S E A S O N A L W E AT H E R With year-round beautiful weather and clear days, Albuquerque shines as an ideal wedding location. From May to August, the weather is warm and sunny, perfect for an outdoor ceremony. Fall brings cooler temps making it the most popular time of the year to tie the knot. If you are looking for that warm weather vibe and plenty of rays, July might be your best bet with average temps in the low-90s. On the other hand, if you are wanting a cozy and cool ambiance to your day, look to January and February. For a more moody day, check out the end of July through August. While there is a chance of rain, storm clouds instantly add a dramatic feel, and they say rain on your wedding day is good luck, right?

W H AT T O P A C K Guiding guests on what to pack for your wedding can take a lot of the guesswork out of their decision. Feel free to add your wedding attire, whether it be cocktail casual or black-tie optional, to your wedding website. Here is also a great place to add little tidbits too, such as packing a shawl for the cooler months or sunglasses if you are having an outdoor summer ceremony, and reminding guests to drink plenty of water to avoid altitude sickness.

ACTIVITIES For nine days at the beginning of October, the city of Albuquerque expands by almost 1 million people as the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta takes flight. With more than 550 hot air balloons floating through the sky, the Rio Grande Valley creates an otherworldly backdrop for the breathtaking scene. Enjoy balloon rodeos, twilight balloon glows, and the mass ascension of the balloons, and more at this annual event! Stroll along the sidewalks of Old Town Albuquerque, the city’s cultural center since the city’s founding in 1706 with numerous museums, shops, galleries and restaurants. The area is filled with Pueblo-Spanish style adobes turned into modern day stores. Pop into Spur Line Supply Co. for unique Southwest wears and gifts from local artisans, or check out Old Town Basket & Rug Shop to fill your home with Southwest decor! Treat your palate to a taste-testing tour of New Mexico’s claim to fame - chilies! Whether you are team green chili or red chili, Albuquerque features some of the best chili dishes in the state! For a unique spin on green chilies, try the Hawaii 505 pizza at Amore Neapolitan Pizzeria topped with Italian ham, pineapple and Hatch green chilies, while Barelas Coffee House proves you can eat chilies for any meal with their red chili-smothered huevos rancheros!

There is no waiting period to obtaining a marriage license so you can plan your wedding at your leisure. The marriage license must be recorded with the county clerk’s office within 90 days from the date of marriage.

Kaylee + Royce hotel albuquerque

Kaylee and Royce met their freshman year of high school but didn’t start dating until they were sent to go their separate ways for college. Kaylee attended Texas Tech University, while Royce was at the University of New Mexico. Over the course of the next four years, the pair traveled between the two schools for weekend visits. During their senior year, Kaylee headed home to New Mexico to meet up with Royce. When Kaylee arrived, she found a card from Royce taped to her parent’s garage door saying to get ready for a “casual date night” then open the next envelope, which contained a room key to Hotel Albuquerque. As Kaylee walked through the hotel room’s door, she was met with a scattering of rose petals, candles everywhere and the message “Will you marry me?” written in rose petals on the bed. While she was taking in the romantic scene, Royce got down on one knee and proposed! Kaylee and Royce planned an earthy, natural wedding for June 1st.

I really enjoyed getting to do everything with Royce, and it helped because he was super into it and really loved planning as well!”

Lisa and Kelly met while playing roller derby in Chicago 2013. Over the years the pair talked about getting married but neither wanted a big proposal or wedding. After four years of dating, Lisa and Kelly took a trip to Albuquerque and stayed at Los Poblanos. The couple instantly fell in love with the venue and agreed it would be the perfect place for a small wedding. Once the venue was set, they bought rings for each other and started planning! Lisa and Kelly planned an intimate, romantic wedding for June 1st.

Diane + David surprise proposal

real beginnings

Daine, a typical serial monogamous, decided to give the dating app Hinge a try after a little encouragement from her friends. At first, Daine swiped left to David, but a few days later he commented on one of her photos with a cute question and made her rethink her previous decision. After chatting for a few weeks, the pair finally decided to meet up on Halloween of all nights. Daine insisted they come in costume, but ended up being over an hour late due to crafting the perfect costume for her dog, Gemma, and herself. Once at the brewery, she was worried David thought she stood him up; however, he came right over and started petting Gemma. The two moved onto a new venue for a little two stepping, which truly won Daine over after a bit of a rocky start at the brewery. At the end of the night, David walked Daine to her car and asked her on a second date. She agreed, and the rest is history!

real beginnings

STYLED SHOOT SWITCHUP After just four months of dating, David knew Diane was the one and went to work on an elaborate proposal. As a wedding photographer herself, Diane is well connected in the industry and friends with lots of other vendors. David reached out to one of Diane’s closest friends, Lavel with Lavel Marie Photography, to get the ball rolling on his plan. Lavel convinced Daine to model for an elopement styled shoot and to bring David along as her “groom.” On the day of the shoot, Diane was none the wiser about the real plan of the day. As the sun was setting into the golden hour glow, Lavel positioned David down on one knee behind Diane and asked her to turn around. To Diane’s shock and surprise, David pulled out a real ring and asked her to be his wife, which she, of course, said, “Yes!”

Getting a manicure will ensure your nails and fingers are looking their absolute best as you show off your new engagement ring.

caporal captures photo + film

Having a professional photographer on hand to capture the moment you say “yes” gives you a keepsake to cherish for a lifetime.

This is a great time to show off your partner as well as your new ring. Cheers, you have officially been upgraded to fiancé.

While the bling is the number one focus of a #ringselfie, the background view is also important. Try a few different angles to get the ultimate shine from your bling.

To cast those stunning prisms all around, you need bright direct light. Move your fingers back and forth to create these dashing rainbows.

Add a filter from VSCO or Instagram to brighten any shadows and keep the focus on your ring. Our favs are Lightroom, KiraKira+ and Instasize!

Jessyca + Ryan jemez pueblo bridals

Jessyca and Ryan met through Ryan’s older brother. During their relationship, Jessyca had a near death experience that landed her in the hospital without a memory except of Ryan. Jessyca remembered her love of Ryan and swears it was a kiss from him in the hospital that brought back all her other memories as well. Two months later, Jessyca was visiting Ryan in San Diego when the pair went for burgers on Oceanside Pier. Looking out over the water filled with surfers, Jessyca turned around to see Ryan down on one knee. Before even saying, “Yes,” Jessyca kissed Ryan because she knew he was the one! Jessyca and Ryan eloped at the Old Orange County Courthouse in California before having their bridals taken in Jemez, New Mexico.

introducing

Q & A with

Floriography By: Erin Mitschele

What is your favorite part of the job? So many things! We love that we get to travel across the southwest and the entire country making flower magic while also supporting local farms and artisans.

What is your favorite tool of the trade? There’s always a swiss army knife in my pocket! It’s super handy in all scenarios.

Where do you come up with your ideas? Around a table (usually full of tacos) with my team. The best ideas come from our conversations which usually involve a lot of this question, “wouldn’t it be cool if......”

What is one thing you wish you could educate your clients on? So many things! But a big one is... How important it is to hire a wedding planner/ coordinator! A good one will make everyone’s day better- from the bride to the folks sweeping up at the end of the night.

Who gives you the best advice? My team and friends. I’m lucky to be surrounded by incrediblywise people who let me ask a lot of wild questions.

Worst wedding SNAFU? How did you problem solve? A pair of scissors fell off of a ladder and into my neck! My team sprang into action! Luckily the bride’s father was a doctor who was able to get me patched up. The wedding went off without a hitch thanks to an amazing wedding planner and my great team who was cool under pressure!

What is your idea of perfect happiness? Hanging out on a porch with my husband, a cocktail, and dogs while watching the sunset on our farm.

What is your tibbest indulgence? Travel.

What is your Astrology sign? Do you think it is accurate? Aries! I think its pretty accurate. I’m pretty advenurous, fiery, and like to have a lot of balls in the air.
