In order to obtain a marriage license in Pitkin County, you and your partner must submit an online application within 30 days of the planned ceremony date. After completing the application, schedule an online appointment. Both parties must present valid identification, the proof of application and pay the $30 fee. After your ceremony, the marriage license with the completed signed certificate must be returned to the office within 60 days.

Alexandra and John met over Christmas break when Alexandra was home from college during her senior year. Alexandra’s mom had introduced the pair, but it wasn’t until several months later when Alexandra moved back home to Aspen after graduating that John found the courage to ask her out. He took her to dinner and a comedy show and the rest is history!

On a powder day in late February, the couple woke up early to take advantage of the fresh new snow and met up with a small group of friends. After several hours of skiing, the group decided to hike up to Peanut Butter Ridge to celebrate the day with a glass of champagne. As they made their way up to the top, several more of their friends began to show up. Alexandra recalls “I didn’t think anything of it. Once we got to the top of this special little lookout spot, John was on his knee within seconds. It felt like the world stopped. All I could hear was my heart beating out of my chest and the sound of our friends and family cheering for us in the background. It was the most perfect day that I will relive in my memories for the rest of my life.” They returned to town to a surprise engagement party and celebrated the night away with their loved ones.

Melani was living in Austin, Texas, and Steve in Albuquerque, New Mexico, when the pair met on Bumble. Melani was driving to Telluride with her parents for a family vacation, when she swiped right on Steve during their stop in Albuquerque. The two chatted through the app for several days and hoped to meet each other in the future. Fate would have its way by cutting Melanie’s family trip short due to a snow storm and creating an opportunity for Melanie and Steve to go on an impromptu date on the journey back to Austin. From that moment on, the rest was history! A move to Santa Fe and a dog later, they were finally ready to make it official!

While getting ready for dinner plans at a nice restaurant in Santa Fe, Melani was enjoying a glass of wine in their kitchen when Steve came up from their basement with a laundry basket looking awfully suspicious. After stowing the ring in their basement crawl space for three days, he couldn’t wait a moment longer. Steve got down on one knee and asked Melani to marry him! Steve and Melanie planned a summertime mountain wedding in Snowmass, Colorado.

Shelby + Benjamin Shelby and Benjamin met online and got engaged in New York City on the highline. Benjamin surprised Shelby by flying in their close friends and family to celebrate their engagement with the most perfect weekend. They planned a classically elegant wedding at The Little Nell on May 29th.

Their wedding day was so perfect that it was hard to choose a favorite moment. After altering their plans for two years, it was so special to see all of their family and friends together to celebrate the start of their new life together. Rachel + Bradley Rachel and Bradley met late one night at a bar while visiting Buckhead, Georgia. They spent five years together before going on a trip to Japan where Bradley built a kern and set the ring on top of it for Rachel to find while touring a temple complex. The couple planned a Bohemian wedding at T-Lazy-7 Ranch for July 23rd.

When it came to choosing a location to get married, the couple had no trouble deciding on Aspen, Colorado since they travel there yearly and love it so much. To plan their destination wedding Rachel and Bradley divided up the responsibilities. Rachel took care of all of the bookings and decor, while Bradle handled the communication. Their wedding, of course, went off without a hitch! They even had special guests in their ceremony background...deer nestled in eating at the base of the picturesque Maroon Bells.

Marge Anna and Wade met through a mutual friend, Matt, who called and invited Marge Anna to dinner with some of his Texas Christian University friends at a hole-in-the-wall fried chicken restaurant called Brick & Bones. Marge Anna recalls “Aside from Matt, I really didn’t know anyone, but Wade had a vaguely familiar face, or I knew I had at least heard his name before. The next thing I knew, Wade politely offered the seat next to him at the table and we chatted all night like no one else was there.”
Three years into dating, Wade told Marge Anna they had plans to meet his parents for dinner, so her dog, Daisy, and she went over to his townhouse that had a great rooftop overlooking Dallas, Texas. “As soon as I got there he would not sit still and claimed he didn’t want to wrinkle his jacket. After ten minutes or so of him pacing and his phone blowing up, he said my birthday present finally arrived and it was on the roof. My birthday is October 1st, this was November 1. I asked for golf clubs as they have a little putting green they built on their rooftop, so I was thinking the present was something of the sort.

Once I got upstairs, there was a little table with flowers and champagne waiting for us. All week had been rainy and gross out, but Friday turned out to have the most perfect weather. It’s like he ordered the sunshine just for us. He knelt down right at sunset and he asked me to marry him. Just the two of us and Daisy. It was perfect,” said Marge Anna.

Camille + Noah A whirlwind trip to Oklahoma began Camille and Noah’s love story. They met when Camille, a senior at the University of Arkansas, was visiting a friend at the University of Oklahoma where Noah, also a senior, was attending. After meeting, the pair stuck together like glue for the remainder of the weekend and beyond!
Camille is notorious for being hard to surprise, which made it difficult for Noah to plan the perfect surprise proposal. He finally decided to propose on a Tuesday night while they were out for his birthday dinner celebration. On the way to dinner, Noah took a “wrong” turn into a neighborhood and pulled up to a beautifully landscaped park with a gazebo fully decorated with pictures, lights, and champagne. It was in the gazebo that he proposed and they now will always have this park to go back to and remember the day they got engaged.
Camille and Noah planned a sunrise elopement at the Maroon Bells on August 18th. They were inspired by the album “Lover” by Taylor Swift to incorporate fun, bright colors. Planning the wedding from Arkansas was challenging, but Camille is grateful to their photographer, Leah Dawson Photo, who helped and advised every step of the way to make their dreams a reality. Their wedding day was perfect with a sunrise ceremony at the base of the Maroon Bells to a sweet, celebratory breakfast at Poppycock’s in Aspen.

Grace + Michael Grace and Michael met in the summer of 2011 while studying abroad in Rome, Italy. Grace, a junior at Ohio State, and Mike, a senior at Providence College, happened to be in the same college program. When exploring in Florence, they shared their first kiss. In Capri, they went on their first date. And in Venice, they fell in love. When summer came to an end, they decided to try long-distance. In August 2019, they planned a spontaneous trip to Moab, Utah, filled with a lot of hiking, National Parks, and local breweries. After seeing the Delicate Arch, they walked down and pulled over to look at more scenery and take some pictures and Michael got down on one knee to ask Grace to be his wife.
ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES
“While planning your wedding, use your networks! Ask married friends their advice, don’t be afraid to reach out to a ‘tagged’ bride on Instagram, while looking for vendors know that hashtags are your best friends! Also, give your vendors creative freedom. Some general baselines or “no-go”s are always helpful, but allowing them to fully express themselves creatively will benefit everyone in the very end, they are the creative professionals after all... always trust the process!”
“We are huge skiers, so we had planned a trip to ski Aspen for Mike’s birthday in early March. I took this as an opportunity to search the internet for potential Aspen wedding venues, it wouldn’t hurt to look while we were in town! We sort of ‘gave up’ on venues for the weekend, and decided to focus on skiing. I made lunch reservations for Lynn Britt Cabin to celebrate Mike’s birthday- it’s half way down the mountain, and the perfect place to stop mid-ski!

The cabin was comfortable, beautiful, and the food was outstanding. I briefly chatted with someone who worked there and inquired it being a potential wedding venue... and once that seed was planted in my head, I couldn’t stop envisioning its beautiful potential.”

Jodi and Steinar met while standing in line at Baskin-Robbins on a warm spring day. After laughing at the samples Steinar was trying while Jodi was in line behind him, they exchanged a few jokes, he bought her ice cream and they sat outside talking. Their next date was a few days later where they found that they share the same love for snowmobiling, riding dirt bikes, and being outdoors. Steinar proposed on a dirt bike ride with three of his children in attendance. Midway through the ride, they stopped at the river where he proposed. It was a special moment shared between the five of them. They were married in an elegant fall ceremony at Viceroy Snowmass on October 16th. Jodi and Steinar’s wedding day started with the kids having breakfast with their dad while Jodi enjoyed some quiet time at the spa at the Viceroy. Their favorite moment of the day was relishing in the small, intimate moments shared between Jodi, Steinar, and his children. Getting his children together, ranging in age from 16 to 25, is incredibly rare so those few hours of the six of them laughing and telling stories was the highlight of their wedding day.
