Banff has been a bucket list spot of mine for years, and while 2021 might not be the year I finally venture to the Canadian Rockies, getting to research and find stunning weddings from the Banff area has made me fall in love with Banff that much more. From the crystal clear alpine lakes to the stunning mountain views, it’s no wonder people are swarming Banff for just a glimpse of those Rocky Mountain views. Calgary International Airport From the airport, it is a scenic 90 minute (140 kilometres or 87 miles) drive to Banff. There are shuttle bus connections from the airport to Banff and Lake Louise or you could rent a car from the airport or in Calgary city.

In the province of Alberta, you can get your registration of marriage and marriage license at any registry agent office. Your partner and you must both be in attendance with proper identification. It will cost $40, and you must be married within three months of receiving the license. The province of Alberta does not require you to be a resident, but it does require two witnesses at the ceremony. Your officiant will need to send the signed registration of marriage form to Vital Statistics within 48 hours of the ceremony.

Zahra + Zoheb How They Met Zoheb and Zahra had seen each other in passing here and there. They have the same background, practice the same religion, speak the same language...you get the idea, but never really had a proper conversation. One day Zoheb messaged Zahra on Instagram, and the next thing you know they went on their first date. She always says they met through mutual friends because, if they didn’t have any, she probably wouldn’t have messaged him back. The Proposal They originally had plans to fly to Calgary to attend a wedding, which was unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19. After a year of being home, they were desperate to travel and had their flight credits, so they decided to fly to Calgary and spend three glorious nights in Banff. Neither of them had ever been to Calgary, let alone Banff, so they planned to do a cute photoshoot with the wonderful Kerry Clarke of Home and Away Photos. While there, Zoheb surprised Zahra by getting on one knee in front of the beautiful backdrop of Lake Louise. Definitely a special moment and we couldn’t be happier.

Mushfika + Enayat Rainy Skies The forecast for Mushfika and Enayat’s wedding day at Silvertip Resort was 100% rain. With their ceremony, reception and portraits planned to take place outdoors, every single guest and vendor was praying that the rain would stay away long enough for their wedding. While a few raindrops were present, the sun came out long enough for the reception and ceremony to stay dry! One of Mushfika and Enayat’s favourite moments of the day was when they walked down the aisle to huge, welcoming smiles from close family and friends. “We would like to thank our coordinator, Amanda, and florist, Lyn, for their unwavering support. They worked tirelessly to make our vision a reality by taking a leap of faith. They made the day magical!” Majestic Mountain Views Mushfika and Enayat always wanted an intimate wedding. Ethnically, both their families would have wanted them to throw a huge party in Toronto. Instead of a large wedding, partially thanks to Covid-19, they celebrated their love in the most special way in Canmore! Mountains are so majestic, and the two decided that celebrating in nature helped them stay grounded and connected to everything around them.

We shouldn’t expect others to change for us, but learn to embrace the person as they are. Not just in our personal and intimate relationships, but even in everyday acquaintances. Pheadra + Brian How They Met Brian was 17 and Pheadra was 16. They met at the West Edmonton mall bus terminal, specifically the #14 bus stop. Funnily enough, his cousin approached Pheadra and started chatting while Brian hid behind him not saying a word. Of course, Pheadra was more interested in Brian! The Proposal On December 31, just before the new year, the pair decided to go out to dinner. Brian asked Pheadra if she would wear the same dress she wore on their first date. They arrived at Kyoto restaurant in downtown Edmonton for dinner, which is also where they had their first date. Before they ate, Brian asked Pheadra when she was the most nervous on a date. After she asked the same question, Brian answered, “This one!” before pulling out a ring box. They both started crying, and of course, she said yes! It was perfect. They knew they didn’t want a traditional Edmonton wedding, so Pheadra and Brian decided to make their wedding unique to them. They planned a modern burgundy, white and glitter-filled wedding on June 12. Although planning included added stress from a global pandemic and Pheadra being in her last year of nursing school, their day was a dream come true.

Heather + Dillon Heather and Dillon met at a Virgin Mobile kiosk. She was in search of a phone and ended up meeting her future husband! Heather ended up having to make the first move because, legally, Dillon couldn’t use Heather’s contact information to connect with her. The Proposal It was just before Christmas, Heather was getting her annual manicure while Dillon set the house up with a note on the door instructing Heather to close her eyes upon entering. He put on her favorite romantic song, had cupcakes delivered and awaited her arrival home. Dillon answered the door in his suit and told Heather to close her eyes and leave everything at the door. He brought her to the Christmas tree, but was so nervous he forgot to tell her to open her eyes! Through tears, Dillon asked Heather and it was the easiest question she’s ever had to answer. The Elopement After planning and replanning three formal weddings in Ontario for two and half years, thanks to COVID-19 postponements, their third wedding date was unexpectedly canceled. They maintained a positive attitude until being heartbroken by the last cancellation. They decided to take charge and plan their honeymoon when they thought, what better place to elope than Banff. Within three days, Heather whipped up a last-minute elopement that represented and reflected their love. It felt so stress-free to only focus on themselves again!

Tamara + Kemeish Tamara and Kemeish met on Instagram! It went down in the DM, and they’ve been together ever since. One year and nine months later, Kemeish surprised Tamara with the most beautifully romantic proposal. He rented a loft space and had it decorated with candles, string lights and photos of them. He even hired a videographer! The pair planned a relaxed, romantic, fairytale summer elopement. Their elopement dream was brought to life by Rocky Mountain Elopements. The planning process was almost scarily smooth! Two weeks before their wedding the weather was not what they expected and Lake Louise was still frozen. Kristin, of Rocky Mountain Elopements, was able to pivot and reschedule their day.
