EDITOR’S LETTER
Being born and raised in Colorado, I found my love for the Rockies in a state that holds so many beautiful places. Through the years, I’ve been lucky enough to travel to many of the other states across the Rockies and have found a certain charm to all of them. Something about the fresh air blowing through the evergreens, or the sand blowing across the Southwest deserts, and the aqua blue lakes in the north, I couldn’t think of a better place to say “I do!” than the Rockies. As I begin to plan my own Rocky Mountain wedding using RMB, I find myself in awe of the talented local vendors in each pocket of the Rocky Mountain region. I hope that within these pages you will find all the inspiration and tips you need to make your day everything you want it to be. We’ve scouted the best of the best in your area to provide you trusted local vendors. Happy planning! visit page 17 to see more of lucy & matt’s wedding!

BRECKENRIDGE 101 Advice for a perfect Breckenridge trip featuring the weather and favorite spots of the area. Like all of Colorado the weather can change in the blink of an eye. Planning ahead can make all of the difference for your guests and you.
cassie rosch photography
S E A S O N A L W E AT H E R At the base of Ten Mile Range and brimming with winter and summer activities, Breckridge shines as an ideal wedding location in the Colorado Rockies. From June to September, the weather is warm and sunny, making it the most popular time of the year to tie the knot. If you are looking for that warm weather vibe and plenty of rays, July might be your best bet with average temps in the low 70s. For clear skies and cool nights, September stands as the clearest month in Breckenridge. On the other hand, if you are wanting a cozy ambiance to your day, look to January when the city is often blanketed with snow. For a more moody day, check out March and July. While there is a high chance of afternoon rain, storm clouds instantly add a dramatic feel, and they say rain on your wedding day is good luck, right?

W H AT T O P A C K Guiding guests on what to pack for your wedding can take a lot of the guesswork out of their decision. Feel free to add your wedding attire, whether it be cocktail casual or black-tie optional, to your wedding website. Here is also a great place to add little tidbits too, such as packing a shawl for the cooler months, sunglasses if you are having an outdoor summer ceremony, and reminding guests to drink plenty of water to avoid altitude sickness.
ACTIVITIES During the winter months, hit the slopes at Breckenridge Resort. The resort boasts 2,908 acres of Colorado’s finest winter-sport terrain, including 187 trails spread across five massive peaks for beginners to more advanced skiers and snowboarders. After a day on the mountain, warm up with apres ski snacks and sips at one of the resort’s many on-site dining lodges and lounges. Breckenridge is the quintessential mountain town brimming with local charm and character. Stroll down Main Street and pop into the many bustling shops showcasing local goods and restaurants serving up seasonal fare. Downtown Breckenridge is the largest historic district in Colorado and mixes western hospitality with Victorian architecture. In December, partake in Ullr Fest, a celebration of the Norse god of snow, when more than 12,000 partiers fill the streets. As the autumn winds wisp through the air, there is no better place to see the changing leaves than in the Colorado Rockies. Drive along the Boreas Pass Road as the forest seems almost ablaze with vibrant yellow aspen leaves. Starting in Breckenridge, Boreas Pass Road ascendes over 11,400-feet to the top of the Continental Divide. With numerous lookouts, it is the perfect spot to take in all the fall colors.

Lucy + Matt s e v e n s at b r e c k e n r i d g e s k i r e s o rt
Lucy and Matt met on the dance floor of the dive bar, Kingas, on Colfax Avenue in Denver. Four months later, Matt officially asked Lucy on their first date, and they have been together ever since! After four years of dating, the pair took a trip to Jackson, Wyoming to stay in a tiny house hotel. One evening, Matt and Lucy took a stroll to Schwabacher Landing in Grand Teton National Park. As the sun set against the mountain peaks and a quiet settled across the space, Matt asked Lucy to be his forever! The duo celebrate with a night out on the town in Jackson. Lucy and Matt planned a lively mountain wedding for June 15th.

RELAXED + FUN
“There were so many amazing and heartfelt moments during our wedding weekend, but being on the later end of most of our friends to get married, we knew we wanted the day to be a big party. We served drinks before the ceremony started, which loosened people up, and there was massive cheering and clapping as each of us walked down the aisle to start the ceremony. It absolutely set the tone for the night to be relaxed, fun and inclusive.” -Lucy

Brit + Corey breckenridge nordic center
Brit and Corey were set up on a blind date by mutual friends. After six years of dating, Corey knew that Brit was his forever and wanted to plan a romantic proposal to be captured on camera. Knowing that Cassie Rosch Photography was one of Brit’s favorite photographers, Corey reached out to Cassie to ask Brit to be part of a styled shoot. The pair set off to the mountains for the shoot at Piney Lake in Vail with Brit having no clue about Corey’s plan. Right during the golden hour as the sun streams with the most perfect illuminating light, Corey asked Brit to marry him while canoeing out on the lake. The proposal could not have been more symbolic and special since the first time the pair exchanged I love yous was while canoeing. Brit and Corey planned an alpine Southwest-inspired wedding for September 23rd.

E A R T H + C L AY
Playing off the changing colors of the autumn mountain leaves in Breckenridge, Brit and Corey’s wedding incorporated earth-tone colors with pops of rust and turquoise. The pair incorporated their love of antiques and the Southwest through the patterned rug at the ceremony altar, red clay bud vases handmade by the bride’s aunt on the reception tables and vintage postcards given to guests as favors.

ADVICE FROM THE BRIDE
“When you start planning, really take the time to discuss and make known what details are most important to you so you can then build your day around that. Don’t compromise on what is important to you. Support each other in those details so outside influences don’t change your special day.”

real beginnings
Maggie and Zach met while attending Texas A&M University. The two were just friends throughout college until their senior year when the pair attended an Oktoberfest party together. The two started dating with just a semester left in college before heading to Denver to start their new life together. After three and a half years of dating, Zach planned a romantic proposal at their apartment. Coming home from brunch, Maggie was met with candles everywhere, pictures on display and a chalkboard listing all the biggest milestones of their relationship. Zach dropped to one knee and proposed! Maggie, of course, said, “Yes,” and the two celebrated with friends in RiNo before heading to Boulder for a miniengagement moon!

THE PROPOSAL
While Emily had more than a suspicion that the proposal was coming since she worked at the jewelry store that Chad bought her ring from, but she ended up being completely surprised. It was a busy morning getting ready to head to Ann Arbor for the University of Michigan’s homecoming game. Chad sneakily suggested that Emily and him take their dog Luna for a walk since they were going to be gone all day. When the pair exited the car with Luna, Emily saw an entire picnic setup complete with a basket full of her favorite candies and campaign. There Chad asked Emily to be his wife, and she excitedly agreed!

Q & A with
Petal and Bean By: Erin Mitschele What is your favorite part of the job? Wedding day setups- seeing the couple’s vision come to life!
What is your favorite tool of the trade?
dani cowan photography
My magical toolbox & emergency kit! It has everything we need from a hammer to fashion tape to zip ties and more! I feel like I use my floral clipper and flocked wire more than anything!
Where do you come up with your ideas? Past experience mainly, but also keeping up with the trends, and curating designs based on the couples inspiration photos and ideas.
What is one thing you wish you could educate your clients on? Wedding Blues are a real thing! You don’t HAVE to have certain things at your wedding. You may want certain things, but set a realistic budget that is right for you and don’t go above your means. Weddings, especially in the mountains, are expensive. Set a budget, set your priorities and stick to the budget. You shouldn’t be paying for your wedding for years! The wedding blues are a real thing and you may get them if you feel you overpaid for one day.
What trend do you wish would dissappear? Always babies breath! It smells bad (hence the name) and there are so many better options! Also, garlands. I know a lot of bride’s love them, but they are expensive and you can get a beautiful floral arrangement for the price you’d pay for a garland.
What do you do in the off season? Vacation! I absolutely love to travel! Some of my favorite places I’ve been to are Thailand and Italy. We have an upcoming trip to Europe, where we are spending most of our time in Greece. I also coach basketball at the high school here. It’s an entire second job, but fortunately it falls in the off season. I’ve been doing it for 6 years and love my athletes!
What are you saving up to buy? Real Estate! Saving up to one day build a mountain venue. It’s my dream!
