winter cover
What a year it’s been! I remember my first time driving to Stanley, Idaho. I had landed in Boise that afternoon and the sun went down as soon as I hit Grimes Pass. I finished the rest of my drive in the dark, and I had no idea what I was going to wake up to. The Sawtooths took my breath away and they still do. The beauty in Idaho is unlike anywhere else - the mountain ranges, the lakeside views and everything in between. I hope the contrasting beauty this state holds and that is represented in this magazine helps inspire your upcoming celebration - no matter what size it might be! One of my favorite love stories we’ve ever featured lies within these upcoming pages, Fred and Elzo’s anniversary session in Cascade. Anyone who reads their story will feel the love and devotion these two have for each other and that’s what matters. The authenticity in all of the love stories within this magazine is what makes Idaho so special to us here at RMB. A lakeside wedding with 360° views, an elopement in the foothills filled with laughs + red wine and so much more - this magazine has it all. While looking back at the creation of this magazine, I can only hope that you all are greatly inspired by the pages that lie ahead, as so much love was put into each and every one.

proposal
Rosie + Ryan / Boise
While Rosie and Ryan attended the same high school, the pair ran in different circles and didn’t really know each other well. Fast forward to college, when both attended the University of Idaho, the pair reconnected over Christmas break and started dating! After six years together, Rosie knew Ryan was planning to propose, but she had no idea when or his plan. Ryan did his best to throw Rosie off to ensure the proposal came as a complete surprise! To celebrate buying their first home together, Rosie and Ryan planned a fun couple’s shoot to commemorate the accomplishment. During the shoot, their song came on, “Cover Me Up” by Morgan Wallen, and Ryan started to share his feelings for Rosie then dropped to one knee and proposed! The surprises continued with Ryan secretly having Rosie’s family come into town to celebrate!

Angie + Alex / McCall Angie and Alex met via a dating app when she was visiting her families’ home in Idaho, but it was actually a summer camp connection from 15+ years prior that made her swipe right! Alex recalled, “When a cute girl messages you and says she knows you from somewhere, you most definitely, always agree with her.” The two bonded over a shared love of family, music and cats, and just a month later, Angie moved back home to Idaho! Around a year later, Angie and Alex set off for a vacation to Kauai, Hawaii. Alex knew this was the perfect time to propose, and he had already had a rough-cut diamond set in a custom band. After a hike near Waimea Canyon, Alex popped the question. Angie nearly blacked out before excitedly replying, “Yes!”

Emily + Brock / Boise Emily and Brock met when Brock invited himself along on a snowboard trip with his friend, who worked with Emily. Little did Brock know that this one decision would completely change his life! The two started out of friends, and then their relationship slowly blossomed from there. About a year and a half later, the duo booked a spontaneous trip to Hawaii with just three weeks until the departure. Brock knew he wanted to propose with a custom ring that just so happened to have a three week turnaround, and he knew it was meant to be. During a sunset walk along the shores of Lahaina Beach on Maui, Brock asked Emily to be his forever!

Abby + Austin rexburg
Abby and Austin “met” in a very 21st Century way. He slid into her Instagram DMs with a simple, “Hey,” and that gesture sparked a connection between the pair! Austin convinced Abby to be his girlfriend, and the rest is history! After one year of dating, Austin told Abby they were going to a formal event and for her to get all dolled up. Little did she know, she was getting ready for their engagement! Austin led Abby to a garden that was lit up with twinkle lights and rose petals scattered everywhere. Right there, Austin asked Abby to be his forever, and she excitedly accepted! Abby and Austin planned an industrial boho-inspired wedding for August 2nd.

Alyssa + Michael s u n va l l e y
While Alyssa and Michael (MJ) officially connected on the dating app Hinge, the two quickly realized they shared a handful of mutual friends because both are from the Pacific Northwest. Three and a half years into dating, the couple set off for an annual summer trip with Alyssa’s family to Sun Valley. Alyssa’s brother and sister suggested the group go for a gondola ride to the top of Mt. Badly. When the crew got to the top, MJ pulled Alyssa aside for a quiet moment with just the two of them and proposed! The surprises didn’t stop there. MJ’s entire family had secretly flown in to celebrate with the couple, and MJ booked Alyssa and him a room at Knob Hill Inn for the night! Alyssa and MJ planned a mountain chic wedding for August 24th.

WEDDING VIBE
Both Alyssa and MJ are pretty particular about music and felt the whole vibe of their wedding day would stem from the music being played. The tone was set when Alyssa walked down the aisle to Dixie Chicks “Cowboy Take Me Away” performed by a string quartet. To kick off the reception, the couple entered to Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire.” MJ started to sprint to the dance floor but Alyssa was struggling to keep up, so he simply picked her up and twirled into the party!

“We did a ‘hand-fasting ceremony’ with a lei from Hawaii brought by MJ’s Godmother. The whole premise is that we fast our hands together with this lei and make promises to each other, and we are bound to our promises even when the lei is removed. As our hands were fasted, we had some of our best friends give us blessings based on different themes love, family, community and humor.”

ADVICE FROM THE BRIDE
“If planning a destination wedding, we would highly recommend getting your family and friends together for events before the wedding to build chemistry with the group. You’ll notice the chemistry the day of the wedding with how comfortable everyone is with each other.”
Tia + Alex s ta n l e y
Tia and Alex met at a hospital gala. Tia was in healthcare, while Alex’s company was building the hospital’s new ICU tower. For their first date, Alex took Tia backcountry skiing, and from there the pair’s relationship evolved into a series of teaching each other new things and being adventurous! After five years of dating, Tia and Alex had known from almost the beginning of their relationship that they would spend their lives together. On the way to meet their families for Thanksgiving, the two agreed to get married and celebrate in a small ceremony with just their families. Tia and Alex tied the knot in the Sawtooth Mountains on August 24th.

MICRO-MOMENTS
“We had a full wedding week with our immediate families. We spent three day’s backpacking, one day rafting, one day boating on the lake and lots of time fishing and soaking at the hot springs. Karina + Josh BOGUS BASIN
Karina and Josh met while playing intramural soccer at Boise State University. While they were simply acquaintances for a number of years, the two kept running into each other and after numerous attempts by Josh to ask Karina out, she finally said yes! Three years later, Karina and Josh were back in California for Thanksgiving. As a tradition in Karina’s family, they go around the table and say what they are thankful for. When it got to Josh, he stood up and asked Karina to stand as well. He then proceeded to drop his fork as a sly way to get down on one knee and completely surprise Karina with a proposal! Karina was more than a little surprised and initially said, “No, no, no” because she couldn’t believe it was happening before realizing and saying, “Yes!” As an added surprise, Josh presented Karina with her dream ring, which was a family heirloom that had been in her family for five generations. Karina and Josh planned a relaxed bohemian wedding for October 5th.

SNOWY SURPRISE
“The forecast was indicating snow the Friday before the wedding and a chance of snow on the wedding day. Our venue was outside with no indoor options. We had to order tents and heaters last minute. We had to start from scratch as far as the layout and set up of the reception. It ended up snowing two inches the day before our wedding, which in the end made for beautiful photos and scenery!

GENUINE EXPERIENCE “Josh and I did not do a first look. We both wanted to genuinely experience seeing each other for the first time on our wedding day at the altar. It was such a powerful and overwhelming feeling of love. Everything was blurry at that moment but him, my future. We both didn’t hear a word the officiant said until we were cued to read our vows.”

Macarah + Adam s ta n l e y
Macarah and Adam had a “meet cute” for the digital age when they met on Tumblr through their mutual love of an indie band. At the time a relationship didn’t seem possible, as Macarah lived in Orange County, California, and Adam lived in Boise, Idaho. Fast forward to college, when Macarah was studying film and posted about it. This restarted the duo’s conversation from years earlier and before they knew it, they were Facetiming every day. Macarah finally flew out to meet Adam, and they instantly knew it was meant to be! Two years later and a move to California, Macarah and Adam were participating in a styled shoot at Carbon Canyon Regional Park. Amongst the baby redwoods, Adam got down on one knee and asked Macarah to marry him! Macarah and Adam planned a lakeside wedding for October 6th.

TEARS OF JOY “Both of our favorite moments from our wedding day was the ceremony itself. It started getting chilly and fog set low on the mountains. It was just so perfect. Our officiant was hilarious and so personal. I thought I would be nervous about reading my personal vows in front of everyone, but I absolutely loved it and cried through the whole thing.

Ashley + Nate mccall
Although Ashley and Nate went to the same high school, they ran in different crowds and didn’t truly get to know each other until they both went off to college at Boise State University. After their reintroduction, the two instantly became best friends but didn’t start dating until eight years later! Ashley and Nate dated for two years, when they bought their first home together. On the day they got the keys to their home, Ashley was greeted at the couple’s new house by her sister all dressed up. There were roses on the floor and music playing as Ashley’s sister escorted Ashley to the table as she played waitress for the night. Nate was also dressed up along with the couple’s dog, Boo! Halfway through dinner, Nate proposed, and they celebrated their first night in their new home as an engaged couple! Ashley and Nate planned a simple and organic wedding for October 19th.

“I loved having so much time to plan! Having a year and a half allowed us to get exactly what we wanted, who we wanted, etc. I would gradually get things done as the months went by, and I was lucky to have my mom as a sounding board. FAV O R I T E M O M E N T “If I had to choose a favorite moment, it would probably be when I walked down the aisle. I kept the song a surprise from Nate, and I was really excited for him to hear the lyrics, of “To Build a Home” by The Cinematic Orchestra, on how we were building a home together. We had a first look and Nate teared up, so I wasn’t expecting him to get so emotional as I walked down the aisle, which then also made me emotional! I felt like that moment was in slow motion for me, and I can still remember it vividly. I have never felt so loved by him, and that memory is more than I could’ve ever hoped for.”

Mei + Jacob boise
Mei and Jacob were introduced by Jacob’s sister. While Mei didn’t take the date too seriously at first due to a bit of an age difference, Jacob completely changed her mind, and they have been together ever since! Six and a half years later, it was a seemingly ordinary night when Jacob returned from a work dinner with fancy leftovers and an expensive bottle of wine for Mei to enjoy. As Mei was surrounded by her gifts, she exclaimed, “I’m so happy, this night couldn’t possibly get any more perfect. You might as well propose right now.” Without missing a beat, Jacob did just that, and the two celebrated with their wine and some cheese! Mei and Jacob planned an intimate elopement for November 8th.

For their wedding, Mei and Jacob originally planned a private ceremony followed by a big reception for the summer, but after ironing out most of the details they realized that they just wanted to be married. After almost seven years of dating, the two chose to elope in an intimate, heartfelt and boozy ceremony officiated by one of their closest friends in the foothills outside of Boise.

ADVICE FROM THE BRIDE
“Everyone always says this, but I can assure you it’s true: make sure the day looks like what YOU want it to look like. When we stopped focusing on pleasing family and friends, and started honoring how we wanted to celebrate our wedding day, we were happier and completely stress-free. We got to focus on each other and what we’ve built, and we have absolutely zero regrets!”

Elzo + Fred cascade
Elzo and Fred met in a very serendipitous way. Fred had just moved to Boise and was looking for an apartment within walking distance of downtown. After searching the newspaper, he came across an apartment and set off to take a look. When he knocked on the door, Elzo answered and Fred was immediately taken by how pretty she was, even though she had just been vacuuming. He inquired about the apartment, and Elzo mentioned that the landlady was gone but would be back soon. Elzo invited Fred in to wait, and the pair started talking and realized they both attended the University of Idaho and even had a few friends in common. When the landlady returned, Fred immediately rented the apartment right below Elzo.

60 YEARS
Every morning, Fred would wait until he heard the click clack of Elzo’s shoes as it was the last thing she put on before leaving her apartment. He would then exit his own apartment and casually bump into Elzo, and they would walk to work together. Over the course of these walks, the two became close, and Fred knew he had found his forever. Fred ended up asking Elzo to marry him almost 20 times before she finally said, “Yes!” Elzo and Fred were married on October 22, 1960, and they are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary in 2020.

caporal captures photo + film
Having a professional photographer on hand to capture the moment you say “yes” gives you a keepsake to cherish for a lifetime.
This is a great time to show off your partner as well as your new ring. Cheers, you have officially been upgraded to fiancé.
While the bling is the number one focus of a #ringselfie, the background view is also important. Try a few different angles to get the ultimate shine from your bling.
To cast those stunning prisms all around, you need bright direct light. Move your fingers back and forth to create these dashing rainbows.
Add a filter from VSCO or Instagram to brighten any shadows and keep the focus on your ring. Our favs are Lightroom, KiraKira+ and Instasize!
