Those first days when the summer sun gives into the cool fall breeze are the best. Trees transform into brilliant shades of amber and yellow that glow in the sun. College football takes over Saturday entertainment (Go Gators!) and pumpkin spice lattes return at last! Along with all the things we love about fall, the change of season also brings new inspiration and beauty to weddings in Montana. For this issue of Rocky Mountain Bride, we wanted to stay true to the natural romance of the Rockies and the love it inspires. Each real wedding captures both the Montana landscape and as well as the personalized touches each couple incorporated to showcase their love. And at the end of the day, those are the things that really matter in building a beautiful marriage. Along with our love stories, we created some beautiful inspiration designed with the rich colors of the seasons. In Big Sky, our team dreamed up a snowy night wedding at Buck’s T-4 Lodge, complete with bistro lights and candles. In Red Lodge, Aspen Ridge Ranch played host to a farm-to-table wedding, complete with rich reds and blush tones. With so many seasonal style cues, we promise that you will find a look that will inspire your fall or winter wedding in the Rockies! in the Rockies! We at RMB are so honored and excited to help be a part of your Rocky Mountain “I Do!” Happy Planning!

A Montana Proposal Photography Simply Sarah | simplysarah.me
the proposal During a Montana weekend trip in September, Daniel planned the ultimate engagement for Morgan. They love to surprise each other with gifts, so Daniel had a bouquet of white garden roses waiting for her when they arrived. Morgan was elated, and Daniel nervously told her the second half of the surprise would come the next day. Daniel had planned for them to ride horses for the afternoon - one of Morgan’s favorite things to do! The wrangler told them that the view at the top was a great view of the property. So the two spent the day riding through trails of aspens until they reached the highest point on the property. They got off their horses and started up the path where Morgan saw one of her white garden roses lying on a tree branch with a note tied to it that said, “I love the way you twirl your hair when you get nervous...” As they continued to walk, Morgan gathered more roses and love notes until they reached the top with two chairs and wine and cheese waiting for them. There was one final rose lying on a leather photo album filled with memories from when they first started dating in high school to current day. With tears in Daniel’s eyes he got down on one knee and asked Morgan to spend forever writing their love story together.

Jennifer & Cameron big sky
brooke borough photography
Jennifer and Cameron met in California through mutual friends. After a couple dates of fishing, horseback riding and lake days with their friends, Cameron asked Jennifer if she wanted to go on a road trip with him to visit his mom in Montana. During that trip, Jennifer and Cameron fell completely in love and knew they were meant for each other. With each season spent in Montana, their love grew. During a trip back in August, Cameron planned to set up a fly fishing trip for Jennifer, who had always wanted to learn. Before their first cast, Cameron suggested a photo. Right before the photo, he got down on one knee and asked Jennifer to marry him. Jennifer had been ready to say yes for some time, so between tears, laughter and excitement, she said yes! They spent the rest of the trip touring venues, they chose 320 Guest Ranch and planned a gorgeous July 2nd wedding.

The Theme: Because of Jennifer and Cameron’s love of
Montana, they wanted to have a mountain cabin themed wedding. Shades of green and gold were used to create the look!
The Dress: “I wanted a dress that had a simple fit, with a
bold patterned lace. The dress I chose had such delicate straps, and a flowing train. It felt so loose and free, and yet it had so much elegance. It was the perfect white against the landscape, with a champagne underlay. I added a showstopper belt and loved the unique touch it added.”
The Flowers: When it came to floral, Jennifer wanted to
keep it natural and complementary to the landscape. For their wedding arch, they used Jennifer’s dads elk antlers that they covered with dahlias, delphiniums, spray roses, lisisanthus and eucalyptus. For her bouquet, she wanted a wildflower-feel that was loose and wild. Her ladies were dressed up with sweet and simple bouquets of eucalyptus and garden roses. They kept the reception tables classic and clean with just eucalyptus garland and China mums scattered throughout.

The Favorite Detail: “Our rings were my favorite
detail. They paired so well together both made of gold, with a vintage feel. Cameron’s ring had a mountain scene on it, with a trout jumping out of the river that runs through it.”
The Food: Jennifer and Cameron loved their wedding
food! For cocktail hour, guests enjoyed assorted cheeses paired with crostini’s and an antipasto display. For dinner, they served prime rib with aus jus and a creamy horseradish sauce and roasted chicken with a red pepper ricotta sauce accompanied with garlic mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese.

For dessert, the couple had a display of their favorite pies and cheesecake for guests to indulge in.
The Sweets:
“Cameron and I spent a few moments before our big entrance , tail gating on the back of a pick up truck. We reminisced about ceremony , the scenery, and the love that was unimaginably growing for one another. We shared a beer just the two of us, it was a beautiful moment that I will cherish forever. “

Advice for RMB Brides: I would tell brides not to worry too much on the small decorative details. The views speak for themselves.”
Three Words: Natural. Rustic. Unique The Honeymoon: “We drove our truck and trailer through Montana to Canada. We spent our days exploring the tourist sites, hiking and fishing. Our nights were spent around our campfire making dinner. Our route back home to California was a trip in itself. We traveled back and camped in the Redwoods along the way finishing up in Monterey. The weather, views and the food was enough to make me want to go back as soon as we can. It was a perfect honeymoon for my husband and I!”

Brooke & Patrick billings
cody collins photography
Brooke and Patrick both grew up in Billings, and even went to the same high school, but didn’t connect until after college when Patrick returned to Billings after traveling for work. A mutual friend brought them together. The connection was instant, and the two were inseparable. They both love to travel, go boating and be adventurous, so when Patrick planned a trip to Mystic Lake, Brooke didn’t think anything of it! Unfortunately there was a bad snowstorm that kept them home, but that didn’t stop Patrick from proposing! The next morning, Patrick made Brooke breakfast and hid the ring in a bouquet of roses! With Billings as their home, they couldn’t think of a better place to celebrate their love than with an October 9th wedding at the historic Billings Depot!

The Theme: Brooke and Patrick planned a Boho-chic fall wedding! They were inspired by the season and it’s colors, and used shades of navy blue, rose and champagne with a lot of gold accents.
The Dress: “I had found a Zac Posen mermaid dress
on the David’s Bridal website but they didn’t carry the brand in store! So I had to blindly order it without ever trying it on. Totally worth the risk! I ended up loving it. It was a very bright white strapless gown. It was comfortable too.”
The Flowers: In keeping with their fall theme,
Brooke chose sunflowers, white roses, peonies and greenery for her floral inspiration and had a custom headpieces designed by Mac’s Floral!
The Favorite Detail: “I think our favorite detail is just how much fun everything was during the whole ceremony and reception. People are still telling us how much fun they had. We really loved the LOVE sign by Better To Gather. It really tied the whole room together. I also loved my floral crown. It made me feel like a princess. Lastly, I will always remember the sparklers at the end of the night!”
The Sweets: The couple had a cupcake display for their sweet treat!
The Food: Brooke and Patrick loved their food!
They had their friend’s at The Red Door Lounge cater, and everyone still raves about the appetizers served! Guests enjoyed kabobs, stuffed mushrooms and meatballs just to name some fan favorites!
Mr and Mrs Moment: “All of the traveling we have already done as a couple!”

Tessa & Zach holland lake
cluney photo
Tessa and Zach first met in their high school Spanish class. Their little sisters were best friends and were always trying to hatch a master plan to get them to date. As time went by, the plan fell through the cracks , and they went to college in different states.Tessa moved back to Montana after graduating college. Zach came back into her life when he showed up for one of her art gallery openings. The two began seeing each other long distance, and after several moves eventually ended up in Portland together. Zach proposed to Tessa after a night of tacos and margaritas at one of their favorite spots in Portland called Por Que No.They decided to plan a Montana wedding filled with the landscape and people they love on August 6th.

The Theme: Tessa and Zach wanted a “black tie outdoor” wedding, with a little glam mixed into the natural beauty of Montana. It was a dress to impress event! They used shades of pink and gold for their outdoor soirée.
The Dress: Tessa found her dress at Dress Theory in Seattle and the designer was Rue de Seine, based out of New Zealand. She was looking for a classic meets contemporary style and found that in the raw silk fabric and detachable lace top. Her favorite touch was the pockets!
The Flowers: Tessa and Zach knew the colors they wanted in their blooms and left the details and design to Jenny at Habitat Floral, who helped them choose floral that complimented the scenery perfectly.

The Favorite Detail: “Zach’s friends from the
architecture program in Bozeman have a band, The Backwood Dreamers, and they brought along their equipment to play bluegrass for the after party in the lodge. People were dancing so hard the floor was shaking! They really made the evening a true party and we couldn’t have asked for a better time dancing with friends.”
The Food: “We were so thrilled about Holland Lake
Lodge, because they have a killer restaurant and do all the meals for you and your guests. Our wedding reception featured two main entrées: grilled top sirloin with rosemary, sea salt, and shallot jam as well as wild Alaskan grilled salmon with grilled corn and tomato relish and a sherry vinegar reduction. They made some brilliant vegetable sides and happily accommodated our vegan guests. At the after party the kitchen put out a heap of sandwiches and Zach’s sister and brother-in-law brought out a wheel of cheese from their farm, everyone agrees this snack was crucial.”

Both Tessa and Zach have sweet tooths, so they chose a decadent Italian butter cream four-tier cake from Bernice’s Bakery. It had alternating layers of chocolate and white wine cake, completed with a Montana huckleberry filling!
The Sweets:
Mr. and Mrs. Moment: “Getting to look at our album of
Polaroid photos taken by guests the next morning. It was pretty hilarious to see all the behinds the scenes action we had missed!”
Advice for RMB Brides: “Enjoy yourself throughout this celebration! Try to go with the flow on the big day when something goes amuck. Realize at the end of the day it will be just you and your partner, and that is all that matters.” Three Words: Unforgettable, Tender, Lovely

Jessica & Michael west glacier
jennifer mooney photography
Jessica and Michael’s friendship goes all the way back to high school! They were always friends but only became close years after college while living in Chicago. Michael had returned from living in NewYork City, and when the two started spending time together they knew it was special and more than just a friendship. Micheal proposed in their hometown along the path surrounding Lake Michigan. It’s a favorite spot of Jessica’s where both frequent to run, walk, hang out, and look at the skyline. The two started planning a Glacier destination wedding, and said “I Do” on a crisp September 26th.

The Theme: Jessica and Michael wanted their
outdoor wedding to complement the beautiful Glacier Park scenery but also tie in a romantic garden style to the day. They kept the colors natural with shades of whites, greens and neutrals.
The Dress: “I first spotted my dress on Pinterest, it was one of the very first ones that caught my eye. I went looking at every store in Montana that carried the designer Katie May, but no one had it. Then I traveled to San Francisco looking for it- still no luck. Velvet Bride in Missoula was kind enough to order me a special sample of the dress, and once I tried it on it was done. I love the sheer sleeves and the fact that its backless. It was the perfect combination of being elegant and classy, but still unique and sexy. I have yet to see a better dress!

The Flowers: In keeping with a garden feel, Jessica wanted her floral to be very green, so she chose a beautiful mix of romantic blooms. They were mostly whites, creams and greens with a hint of earthy sand tones in a natural, loose design that incorporated poppies, green hanging amarathus (Jessica’s favorite), dark viburnum berries and light gray silver brunia. The First Dance: Jessica and Michael danced
to Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon.” The song had meaning to Michael, and the couple just loved the lyrics.
The Food: When it came to dinner, the couple
chose to serve the food they loved to eat! Guests enjoyed mini bison sliders with pickled onions and cucumbers, tuscan kale salad with roasted pine nuts, pork carnitas, greek white bean salad, grilled crusted walleye and roasted wedge potatoes.
The Sweets: For a sweet end to the night,
Jessica and Michael served a two-tier butter cream cake, chocolate covered strawberries, brownies and a candy bar!
The Favorite Detail: Jessica loved the
greenery and moss runners on the tables. They had hops vines hanging from the chandelier and arbor along with tree ivy, olive foliage, scented geranium, seeded eucalyptus, jasmine vine, fresh mint and rosemary.

In keeping with a blush and burgundy palette, we just love the color pop in the linen! Jordan & Craig missoula
green door photography
Jordan and Craig met when Craig and some of his friends came into the restaurant Jordan was working at. They had flirty banter the whole time and Craig got her number before he left, and the two have been together since that night! With such a movie-like meeting, Craig knew that the proposal had to be epic! In April, Jordan and her sister decided to surprise their parents and fly to Missoula since they dont live there anymore. Little did she know that the surprise would end up being on her! Craig “couldn’t get off work,” so Jordan and her sister perfectly executed the surprise. When the sisters arrived their parents threw their hands in the air and said “what on earth are you doing here?!” Little did Jordan know they were using their acting skills! The next day, the family decided to plan a hike up to the Missoula “M.” Her mom decided to stay back, as she “wasn’t feeling well.”The rest of Jordan’s family started the hike. When they made it to the top they were all posing for a photo when Jordan felt a tap on her shoulder, and turned around shocked to see Craig! He grabbed her hands and started to re-tell their love story. Just when it couldn’t get any better, Jordan’s mom came around the side of the mountain with a GoPro, capturing every moment! After a mountaintop yes, the two couldn’t think of a better place to celebrate their love than a June 18th summer wedding in Missoula!

The Theme: Jordan and Craig wanted to have an upscale, rustic
wedding that complimented the venue and decor with more elegant touches and delicate details. A color palette of blushes, white, greens and navy was used to paint the day.
The Dress: “Made in the heart of the city of Seattle, about 3
blocks from the iconic Pike Place Market, my dress was handcrafted at Cicada. I fell in love with the fact that their design and construction are all done in their building. The neckline was heart shaped, trumpet fit, strapless, and lace from top to bottom.”
The Flowers: Jordan loves peonies, so she made them the focus in her bouquet! She also really loved how the anemones navy center matched the color of Craig’s suite and tied it all tighter!

The Favorite Detail: “Hardest question ever! I LOVE lighting, and at our reception our last name was lit up in marquee lights so it was probably that… or the sparklers!”
The Food: Jordan and Craig wanted to give their guests a
more interactive food experience, so they worked with The Ranch Club to have three different stations! People could choose from Montana Huckleberry BBQ, Rancher’s Delight, or a Prime Rib Carving. The majority of their guests were from out-of-town so the couple wanted them to experience the fresh and local foods of Montana!

Craig loves sweets, so the couple decided to indulge in a desert bar filled with macaroons, cheesecake, three different types of cupcakes, sugar cookies, and a lovely two-tier wedding cake!
The Sweets:
Mr. and Mrs. Moment: “Our vows. They were the
most important part of our day. We took time in writing our own, and they were so special.”
The First Dance: The newlywed’s danced to “Tenerife
Sea” by Ed Sheeran. They found the song after about a year of dating and it just stuck. The lyrics for them hit home, and they haven’t found another song that has been more perfect for who they are as a couple.

Advice for RMB Brides: Jordan gave us her top six
tips for brides getting married:
1. Lock in your vendors immediately. What I found the most shocking was how fast vendors fill up. I booked mine almost a year in advance, as we had a little over a year engagement, and still vendors had most weekends assigned to other weddings. 2.Guests spend the time and money to be at your special day. I found it important to make sure the food was good. 3. Put the most money in what is most important to you. 4. Be resourceful with companies like Etsy or Pinterest. These companies are great for ideas and money-saving tips. 5. Write your own vows. 6. Book a videographer. They run expensive, but it is well worth the money to go back and watch so many things you may have missed. The day goes by so fast!
Three Words: Elegant, Whimsical, Picturesque
