One of the best parts about Colorado: the mountains! While the mountain peaks of Telluride bring spectacular views, they also bring unpredictable weather. Winters in Telluride are magical, but are often accompanied by lots and lots of snow, so make sure you check the weather before your big day and plan accordingly. The summers are cool and dry with the occasional summer rainstorm. They say rain is good luck on your wedding day! Whether you and your guests are staying in town or exploring the nearby trails, it’s essential to pack accordingly, check weather updates often, and expect the unexpected.
WHAT TO PACK
Telluride is located at 8,750 feet above sea level, meaning unexpected weather can occur all year. Here, ski seasons last far into the spring, and snowmelt can still be visible slopeside until mid-summer. When packing for a wedding in Telluride, expect the unexpected.
Summer temperatures average a high of 74ºF, yet snow can also occur at high elevations throughout the year. This means packing in layers in key! Adding layering tips to your wedding website or invites can be beneficial for guests who aren’t familiar with mountainous climates.
If you are getting married at a higher elevation, it’s not a bad idea to add a wedding jacket as a late-night accessory. It’s a simple and easy way to change a look and the perfect way to stay warm on cooler nights!

It is also the perfect location for horseback riding, fly fishing, ATVing, and taking scenic gondola rides. Winter brings an abundance of world-class skiing at some of the country’s best resorts. During peak ski season, it’s not uncommon for couples to get married and enjoy fresh powder all in the same weekend. After the slopes, enjoy five-star spa service at one of the many renowned ski resorts.

Katie + Oliver
Katie and Oliver’s love story began in their childhood neighborhood where they were neighbors. High school sweethearts, Oliver proposed to Katie the day after she finished her first round of law school finals. They were about to head home from North Carolina for the holidays, but had decided to stop in Asheville on their way. He had a handmade sign waiting for Katie on a beautiful wooden bench in Biltmore village, which was decked out in Christmas garland. Their friends and family were there to surprise Katie, and it was the greatest surprise of her life.
With an original 2020 wedding date, Katie and Oliver postponed their wedding until August of 2021. Their new wedding venue pulled out on them four months before the wedding, so Katie and Heather Allen of Table 6 Productions pivoted to create a spectacular outdoor wedding at Schmid Family Ranch. Within the four months of planning, Katie was preparing to take the bar exam, so she credits Oliver, Heather and her families for pulling the event together. Katie passed the bar exam and had the wedding of her dreams - all’s well that ends well! Karch received the ring to propose to Audriana at work so she would not see it. He was talking with a friend at work when he knew that he had to propose immediately. He showed up at the coffee shop where she worked at the time and knocked on the door. Audriana thought that she was being robbed as she could only see the bottom of Karch’s jacket. When she opened the door, there was Karch on one knee. She was so surprised at the time but knew Karch was the one she wanted to spend the rest of her life with.
Set amongst the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains in Telluride, Katie and Oliver said “I do” surrounded by their closest friends and family. They incorporated fun bohemian and western elements into their wedding day with a wildflower-decorated cake by Fig & Bloom and custom Ranch Road Boots. Katie and Oliver ended the night by dancing to their first dance song where their family and friends surrounded them in a big group hug. They shared nothing but love together on their special day.
WHY THE ROCKIES
“We live in Denver and fell in love with Telluride when we first visited. We actually were planning to take both of our moms camping near Telluride, and then were met with pretty bad rain and mudslides. We were forced to stay in town, but had the time of our lives and decided then and there it’s where we would eventually tie the knot.”

Amy + Jason
Amy and Jason were together for two years before Jason popped the question during a family ski trip in Vail, Colorado. While skiing the back bowls and Blue Sky Basin, Jason planned a surprise proposal with their four kids and Nate Shepard Photography. Amy and Jason started skiing when he stopped to, what Amy thought, adjust his ski boot, but instead Jason pulled out a ring and proposed. Their kids and Nate ran out from the woods to capture the special moment. They celebrated and popped champagne right on the ski run!
The couple planned an elegant mountain wedding in Telluride. Amy and Jason were married at the top of San Sophia Overlook, and their favorite moment of the day was the fog lifting right as they said “I do,” to reveal spectacular mountain views. Their wedding planning was stressful due to the ever-changing restrictions of the global pandemic, but they were grateful to spend their special day with their closest friends and family.
Amy and Jason had two wedding receptions due to the restrictions in Telluride. The first was a dinner at Allred’s Restaurant, an elegant restaurant situated just a short walk from the San Sophia Overlook. The second was a gondola ride down into town at the Liberty Lounge where they were met with a DJ and plenty of dancing.
WHY THE ROCKIES
“We both love to spend time in the mountains. The first trip we took together as a couple was to Telluride, and it is absolutely gorgeous! We loved the idea of getting married in the same place we took our first trip together as a couple.”

Morgan + Elijah
Morgan and Elijah met in Durango, Colorado at Purgatory Ski Resort where Elijah was a snowmaker and Morgan worked at Hoody’s Bar serving him drinks. He asked Morgan to be his girlfriend on the chairlift! Five years later, they went on a trip to Europe where Elijah popped the question under the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France on a warm and sunny afternoon.
They planned a classic mountain wedding in Telluride on top of their favorite mountain. Morgan, her three older sisters and mom helped plan the wedding day over the span of two years, and it turned out better than Morgan and Elijah could have ever imagined. Their dog, Ophelia, served as ring bearer as Morgan and Elijah pledged their love to each other in front of their closest family and friends.

Jillian + Nathan
It was only a matter of time before Jillian and Nathan met. Her best friend was dating his best friend, and it seemed like the stars aligned for them to meet. They were together for two years before Nathan popped the question during a quiet dinner at home. It was just the two of them and it was absolutely perfect.
Jillian and Nathan planned a Telluride elopement with only their photographer, Brittany of BH Picture Co., in attendance. During the wedding planning process, both Jillian and Nathan knew they wanted a small and intimate wedding. They played with the idea of eloping and knew that they wanted snow capped mountains, colorful aspens and the intimacy of just them with zero distractions, so Colorado was the perfect place for them to start the rest of their lives together.
WHY THE ROCKIES
“We love being in the mountains! Growing up, we would both go camping, hiking and traveling, so this was something that just made sense for us.”

Kate + Andrew
Kate and Andrew’s love story began as co-workers in Chicago, Illinois during the summer of 2015. Andrew popped the question five years later by surprising Kate, flying in on a helicopter and landing in a pasture on Kate’s parents horse farm. He got down on one knee right there in the field with Kate’s parents and sister watching.
Their timeless wedding day in Telluride was planned with the focus of celebrating Kate and Andrew’s love for one another while uniting their family and friends. With the pandemic, many celebrations were virtual, so their wedding weekend was the first time their family and friends could get together in person. They spoke handwritten vows to each other at 10,500 feet, shared sweet moments and danced the night away during their reception at Gorrono Ranch.
ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES
“Enjoy the experience and try not to get stressed over the little things. If possible, hire a wedding planner local to the area where your ceremony takes place and coordinator with vendors and bands early in the process. Have fun!”

teddy + callum
Teddy and Callum met in Boca Raton, Florida when Teddy took a summer job at Outward Bound and was placed nearby. They had a mutual friend that introduced them one weekend, and then the pandemic hit. They started communicating more frequently about books they were reading and workouts they were doing during quarantine. By the end of quarantine, Callum moved back to San Antonio, Texas and Callum moved to Austin for school. They started dating three days after she moved, and they spent their first date at the gym and dinner discussing the books they recommended to each other over quarantine.
A year and a half later, Callum and Teddy were in Telluride with some family when he suggested they snowmobile to the Alta Lakes Observatory. Teddy, thinking they were planning to celebrate her birthday, had no idea that Callum had planned the surprise proposal four months earlier with her family. As they were sledding and hitting some sweet powder, Callum got down on one knee and asked Teddy to marry him.
Teddy and Callum planned their Telluride Regional Airport wedding as an ode to generations before them with classically vintage themes throughout the wedding day. Teddy’s dress was her mother’s wedding dress and her jewelry was her grandmother’s. Their day incorporated intentional moments like an ancestry wall at the reception that featured couples or wedding photos from generations past. Teddy and Callum also chose a 1962 Corvette, the same car Teddy’s parents drove off from their wedding in 1995, as their getaway car.
