Hello Darling!

laura murray photography

rene tate photography

We at RMB have been very excited for this magazine. New Mexico is a place that captures your heart immediately and leaves you wanting to see more from the Land of Enchantment. Vast and open, it’s lands can be deceiving at first, but the state challenges you to discover it’s true beauty. That was the mission for this magazine, to unearth all of the amazing people, places and stories of New Mexico. Hilary, our Sales Director, lived in Albuquerque for a couple of years and continues to hold it close to her heart. She led the way and shared with us all of the things that made her fall in love with New Mexico. Wether it be the July lavender blooming, Christmas style blue corn enchiladas, or discovering hidden treasures in the markets of Santa Fe, her love of New Mexican culture has made this magazine to what it is! Hilary’s passion was equally met and mirrored in each and every vendor we worked with. Their pride in representing New Mexico and believing in all the amazing talent the state holds elevated each styled shoot and wedding. From doing “happy shimmies” on location at Tamaya with all the vendors, to hiking around the mountains of Pecos authenticity and unshakeable love for New Mexico shined through each look. We hope you see the passion in each photo and fall in love with this stunning state. Thank you so much for letting RMB help guide you to your dream wedding. We wish you a lifetime of love, adventure and enchantment!

Caitlin + Mariano santa fe

emma marie photography

Caitlin and Mariano met in Columbia. Mariano was there for work, while Caitlin was in the country traveling abroad. The two ended up meeting through a mutual friend. Caitlin’s stay was extended due to landslides in the area preventing her from traveling back home. During that time, they got to know one another on a deeper level and became close friends. After their departure, Caitlin and Mariano couldn’t help but stay in touch. Two years later, Mariano moved to Austin,Texas to be with Caitlin.Their love for one another flourished. One evening, Mariano planned the most thoughtful surprise proposal. He knew how muched Caitlin adored the lost art of handmade cards. He crafted an intimate card full of various pop windows that revealed their first date and other memorable moments in their relationship. After admiring the gift, Caitlin glanced over to see Mariano on one knee. Mariano asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. Of course, she said, “Yes!” The couple planned a folk-inspired, colorful celebration for a beautiful day in June.

color and culture Caitlin wanted her day with her love to be timeless, cheerful and unplugged. As an artist herself, she has always been drawn to handmade styles and folk art. She wanted to incorporate these design elements as well as a Latino influence into her wedding day theme. Every detail was bright, colorful, and most of all, authentic to Caitlin and Mariano’s relationship and the culture of New Mexico.

smudging During the couple’s union, the officiant performed a smudging ceremony. She burned sage and lavender to cleanse the present spirits and calm the energy. The entire ceremony was unique! It was so special for Caitlin and Mariano’s guest to experience the true culture and beliefs of Santa Fe.

a man of many words “Mariano and I wrote our own vows. We never really discussed what they would consist of in detail. We both just agreed to write what was in our hearts. As we stood hand in hand at our ceremony, I shared mine first. My vows first reflected our dry senses of humor and wrapped up with a lighter promise to our love story. I expected something similar from Mariano as he is a quiet and sensitive man. However, he completely blew our guests and I away with his words. His vows were so thoughtful and deep. Mariano poured his heart out! I will cherish that moment and those words forever.”

Kristen + Evan santa fe

loren x chris photography

Kristen and Evan met on a porch in Somerville, Massachusetts back in 2012. Kristen had just moved into her new apartment and was invited to the neighbors’ party downstairs. Meanwhile, Evan and his friends were having a small bonfire two doors down. Drawn by the sounds of a party nextdoor, Evan and his crew ventured over. Evan impressed Kristen with his best Gangnam Style party dance. The rest is history! A couple years later, Kristen and Evan decided to go to New York to visit some friends. They arrived at a friend’s apartment in Brooklyn just in time to get ready and head over to a pre-planned cocktail party with friends. But Evan lingered and suggested they head up to the rooftop deck. After he asked to go up to the rooftop deck for the second time, Kristen began to get suspicious. They walked out on the deck right at sunset and stood there appreciating the gorgeous view and remembering their time living in NYC together. Evan then sneakily moved the two of them over to a nearby bench and handed Kristen a black bound book. The first page got her crying! It was a beautiful telling of their story, and the last page had a drawing of the ring with the caption, “Will you marry me?” The cocktail party turned out to be a surprise engagement party, complete with balloons, flowers and all of their friends in NYC! It was followed by a candlelight dinner, and a romantic evening at the St. Regis (a surprise for them both, courtesy of a dear friend). The two decided to plan a vibrant Santa Fe fiesta wedding on a gorgeous May 29th afternoon.

hacienda fiesta Kristen grew up in New Mexico. Naturally, it was the first place she thought of when planning the wedding! The couple wanted a welcoming and elegant hacienda fiesta for their guests. They used colors that mimicked the desert landscape - a mix of blushes, corals, copper and rose gold accents with turquoise and succulent greens.

the little white dress Kristen wore a custom-made ‘Starr’ dress from Amy Kuschel. Kristen and her mom had a ‘shop-til-you-drop’ day and must have tried on 40 dresses at numerous shops in San Francisco. The Starr dress was the first dress she tried on that day! The designer, Amy Kuschel wrote a beautiful description of the gown: “Fabricated in our intricate Lady Stardust lace pattern with a captivating, plunging V inset in Point d’Esprit. A compilation of mixed laces frame Starr’s bodice for intrigue and depth. Her shoulders are capped with delicate lace. And her buttoned-up bare backline is a bit rock-n-roll with a lotta soul. Starr is elegant and sexy with a subtle trumpet silhouette.”

husband and wife One of Kristen and Evan’s favorite moments happened when they were announced as husband and wife. Walking down the aisle, after an emotional and personal exchange of vows, to the cheers of friends and family was something they will cherish forever! It is one of their happiest memories ever.

local flavor The couple loved the menu created by Walter Burke Catering. Most of their guests had never been to the southwest, so they wanted to showcase the local cuisine. The food was fresh, inventive, and absolutely delicious. Guests dined on an organic mixed greens salad with a red pepper vinaigrette and red chile spiced nuts, southwestern orzo, jalapeno cornbread, ancho chile maple glazed chicken and polenta casserole. The couple even created signature cocktails for their day! The winning recipes were a Prickly Mezcal Margarita and the Lavender Honey Sidecar.

salsa samba Kristen and Evan did a salsa dance accompanied by their live salsa band, Trio Los Amigos. The couple wanted to learn a style of dance that would be fun to practice and use in the future. Their instructors are two talented salseros, and Evan and Kristen just tried to keep up! They had a blast learning at one of the top salsa clubs in the US. The club, El Valenciano (aka El V), happened to be around the corner from them where they lived in San Francisco.

Kiah + Brandon pecos

ashley joyce photography

Brandon and Kiah grew up in the same town of Hobbs, NM. Although their moms were great friends, the two never really new each other growing up. After Brandon finished school, he joined the Marine Corps, was deployed to Iraq twice and eventually ended up stationed in Albuquerque. Kiah was also living in Albuquerque for school. One Sunday morning, Brandon’s parents were in town visiting him, and his mom invited Kiah to join them for church service. Little did Kiah know that a handsome guy that she hadn’t seen in years would be there! A few Sundays later, Brandon slipped Kiah his number “just in case she ever had car trouble”. Sure enough, a few weeks later, she was in a car accident, and her car was out of commission for at least six months. That night after the crash, Kiah called Brandon and he ended up having an extra vehicle for her to drive. The two used the car excuse to spend more time together. They officially started dating that Christmas Eve. After a very short time together, the couple knew that they had a love that was meant to last forever. One weekend in June, Brandon suggested that they go on a little date night “just to get out of the house”. They rode the tram to the top of Sandia Peak and had dinner at the local restaurant, High Finance. Kiah was completely clueless to Brandon’s master plan. After dinner, the two took a stroll around the famous La Luz Trail and stopped to soak in the panoramic view of the city at sunset where Brandon, at just the right moment, asked Kiah to to marry him. Of course, Kiah started crying immediately and replied, “Absolutely!” The couple celebrated their love in the Pecos Wilderness on August 18th!

let’s elope

Kiah and Brandon’s elopement was simple and natural. They used a color palette of gray, navy, purple and wine to create their look. The couple wanted to focus on their commitment. Having their day in the Pecos Wilderness was very near and dear to their hearts, and they loved sharing the breathtaking scenery and hike with their guests!

a vintage-inspired gown

Kiah wanted a less traditional wedding dress. She envisioned something feminine and simple, and her vintage heart has always loved the 70’s wedding dress vibe. When she found this lace adorned gown with flowy bell sleeves, she knew it was the one. It was the perfect mix of classy, modern and vintage. Most importantly, it represented Kiah’s personality!

the vows “My favorite moment of the day was by far confessing our vows to each other. I loved hearing Brandon’s deepest feelings for me, and it meant so much to me to be able to share mine with him. Being able to be open, raw and vulnerable with one another in front of our closest friends and family is one of my favorite memories to look back on. Did I mention that he cried? I cry about literally everything, so it was no surprise that I balled. However, a bride seeing your groom cry during your ceremony, that’s a dream come true!”

advice to rocky mountain couples “Don’t lose sight of the big picture. There is so much that goes into planning a wedding, and it can be overwhelming. Just enjoy it! Above all else, you get to marry the person of your dreams, and this is the biggest and most important commitment you will make to someone else in your whole life.”

Andi + Leah placitas

the colagrossis

Andi and Leah met in Austin when they both joined the same kickball team. The two won’t quite claim that it was love at first sight, but they seemed to gravitate towards one another. The ladies became very fast, best friends and it didn’t take long before they were inseparable. The couple just knew it was right. Nearly seven years later, Andi had a ring designed. She knew she wanted to surprise Leah and plan something that would be memorable for the both of them. Leah was raised in a very loving and close knit community in New Mexico, so when the two visit for holidays their schedules are always packed. Every time they go, Andi always asks Leah for just one “adventure” alone together. On this particular trip to the Land of Enchantment, Andi and Leah decided to snowshoe up to Raven’s Ridge in Santa Fe. It was freezing, yet still a beautiful, blue sky day. The couple packed a lunch, and Andi snuck in a surprise bottle of champagne before heading out. As they got to the top of the peak, they sat down to eat and Andi broke out the bubbles. Somehow Leah still did not catch on, and continued to gawk at the views. Andi started to tell Leah about how much she loved her, what their relationship meant to her and how much she challenged her to be the best version of herself. Andi pulled the ring from her backpack and finally held Leah’s undivided attention! She pulled Leah’s glove off of her left hand and asked her to spend the rest of her life with her. Between lots of frozen tears, Leah said, “Yes!” Andi arranged for Leah’s closest friends and family to gather at her house for a small celebration filled with love and plenty of champange when they returned. They planned an intimate celebration on a perfect fall day in September!

may the theme be love Leah and Andi didn’t necessarily have a theme behind their wedding. However, the couple wanted the experience to be casually elegant, fun and a night to remember! They were lucky enough to have a beautiful and meaningful location to get married and the most incredible people surrounding them. They wouldn’t have changed a thing.

black and white “When it came to our wedding gowns, we had to consider how we wanted to look and feel as individuals as well as together. I found it important that we each felt beautiful and special, but most importantly, true to who we are. Leah knew immediately that she wanted to wear a white wedding dress. I, on the other hand, wanted something a little different. We both agreed that a white dress and a black dress would not only look great together, but would allow us to shine in our own unique ways. We successfully kept our dresses a secret until our first look. Oh, what a lovely surprise it was!

native floral Leah and Andi wanted to incorporate a lot of greenery with neutral, native florals. Emily, with Floriography, absolutely nailed it! She integrated a ton of beautiful air plants and creative collections into her designs for each table and bouquet. Above all, the couple wanted the floral to melt into the surroundings as the venue was their canvas.

circle of love Andi and Leah loved the location of their wedding. They made a semi-circle of rocks that the two stood in during the vows. Next to it is a heart that’s still there today! The fact that they were married by one of the couple’s very closest friends made the ceremony that much more memorable. It was the one time that all of the people they love the most were all in the same place!

advice to rocky mountain couples “Enjoy every minute of it, even the mishaps (they will happen), because it will be over before you know it. Remember that the imperfections tell just as much of the story as every other piece. A great photographer is worth the research and the cost, because those images are forever and they tend to capture things you don’t have an opportunity to see. Hire an event planner. If you are planning a wedding in the Albuquerque area, hire Amy Gallegos. She made our dreams come true! Most importantly, be as present as possible on your wedding day. Forget everything you could have or should have done for that time is over. Finally, even if you don’t think you can fit it in, take a few moments for just the two of you before or after the ceremony!”

Catherine + Mikael

los ranchos de albuquerque

elizabeth wells

Catherine and Mikael met as freshman dormmates. The first semester, Catherine urged Mikael to join the hip hop dance team she was on. He eventually agreed, even though it was something he normally wouldn’t do (later on Mikael confessed he joined, because he had a crush on Catherine)! The two stayed good friends for the first three years in college. However, their senior year, Mikael took a leap of faith. One night he took Catherine to Manhattan Beach on a date and kissed her! Catherine was shocked, yet swept off of her feet as she too had fallen for Mikael long before their first kiss. After finishing school, the couple lived together in Los Angeles, France, and Albuquerque. They grew inseparable. Seven years later, Catherine and Mikael took a summer road trip through Europe to visit Mikael’s family in Sweden and good friends in France. On the drive to the South of France, Mikael planned a surprise stop at Gorges du Verdon, where he got down on one knee and shocked Catherine once again. Of course, she said, “Yes!” and the two planned a romantic, autumn wedding at Los Poblanos on November 4th.

understated beauty The flowers were a collective effort. The couple ordered them in bulk from fiftyflowers.com, and held a flower arranging party at Catherine’s Mom’s house the day before the wedding. Catherine and Mikael’s parents, sisters, cousins, brother-in-law and friends came over to design the centerpieces and bouquets. Burgundy dahlias and champagne garden roses were the stars of the show. Violet ranunculus and white-dahlia styled daisies played supporting roles! It meant a lot for Catherine to incorporate Garden Roses and dahlias into her floral arrangements. Garden Roses are so feminine, sturdy and deliciously fragrant. While dahlias, with their deep burgundy hue, are wild and mysterious like bursts of understated beauty. At the wedding, whenever Catherine was feeling overwhelmed, she would look at the flowers and be reminded of all the people that were there to celebrate and support her and Mikael’s relationship. The thought filled her with a sense of calming and gratitude.

together “We had a nontraditional wedding party and ceremony. Our parents and sisters were our processional. We didn’t want anyone walking down the aisle with a stranger or by themselves, so our parents walked down with their respective partners and our sisters walked down with theirs. Before the ceremony began, we all lined up in the back. Once our families walked out, it was just Mikael and I alone together while they switched the song to our entrance song. We were both so nervous! I really appreciated that intimate moment of calm with him where we reminded each other that this was all about our love. Then we finally got to walk down the aisle together, hand-in-hand, heading into the marriage as two willing and elated human beings.

an ethiopian blessing “We incorporated Ethiopian traditions into our celebration. The Ethiopian music we chose to play is one of our favorite memories. I was so proud to be joining Mikael’s family, and dancing to traditional music with his aunts and uncles was definitely a moment I will cherish. Also, to end the night, we had an Ethiopian blessing of the elders ceremony where all of our loved ones who helped raise us (about 90% of our guest list) sat in chairs and Mikael and I knelt in front of them and asked for their blessing. It was such an emotional experience as we truly got to express our gratitude for our family members, a lot of whom we don’t get to see very often.”

advice to rocky mountain couples “Try to remember what the event is all about: affirming your relationship with your partner and joining your life to theirs. Hopefully that will make any hard decisions in the planning process a little more manageable. Also, as an introvert, daily meditation the month before the wedding did wonders for my nerves!”
