Kloee and Phillip met in class during their freshman year at the University of Utah when they were assigned to the same group project. Working together brought them closer, and the two soon discovered an undeniable connection. Over the next five years, Kloee and Phillip shared countless memories and graduated college. Knowing how important family is to Kloee, Phillip decided to involve her loved ones in his proposal plans. With Phillip’s family residing in Fargo, North Dakota, he made arrangements to spend Christmas with them. Kloee kindly dropped him off at the airport on Christmas Eve, unaware of the extraordinary surprise awaiting her. Meanwhile, Kloee’s family celebrated Christmas Eve with dinner at a local restaurant. As they enjoyed their meal and the festive ambience, Phillip confidently walked in toward Kloee. The room fell silent and he asked the most important question: “Kloee, will you marry me?”

Lexy and Preston’s love story began in the summer right before their freshman year of high school. The pair were introduced to each other through a group of mutual friends and their paths quickly intertwined. At first, they were just friends, enjoying each other’s company at typical teenage hangout spots, but as time went on, their friendship took a romantic turn. That December, Lexy and Preston decided to take the leap and officially became a couple. Six years passed and on a warm summer evening, Preston planned a special date night for the two of them. Knowing Lexy’s love for intimate dinners and the outdoors, he suggested going on a picnic during the golden hour of sunset. Lexy eagerly agreed, thrilled by the idea of spending quality time together in a beautiful setting. As the sun began to set, casting a warm golden glow across the landscape, Preston knelt down on one knee and asked Lexy to be his wife. Kaci and Grey had a unique connection, having known each other through a mutual friend they met in college. Despite following each other on Instagram for quite some time, it took over a year and a half before they finally struck up a conversation. Once the pair met in person, though, sparks flew and they officially started dating just three weeks later. As their relationship flourished, Kaci shared exciting news with Grey. A photographer had reached out to her for a free photo shoot in the stunning Rocky Mountain National Park in the fall. Grey of course agreed, unaware of the surprise that awaited. Unbeknownst to Grey, the photographer was actually in on Kaci’s secret proposal plans. During the photo shoot, the couple stood back to back and when the moment was right, they were asked to turn around and face each other. It was then that Kaci took the opportunity to pop the question, asking Grey, “Will you marry me?” The engagement was filled with joy and love as Grey happily said, “Yes!” But the surprises didn’t end there. On Christmas Eve, just a few months after their engagement, Grey planned a special surprise for Kaci. While they were taking Christmas photos together with Santa, Grey asked the same intimate question. Overwhelmed with happiness, Kaci also said yes, sealing their commitment to a lifetime together.

THE MORNING OF Digital and film wedding photographer Kayla Bertagnolli finds joy in capturing the essence of adventurous couples. Naturally, the Utah-native leaned into the concept of planning and documenting an unfiltered elopement in the southwest desert. Drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of Zion’s landscape, the color palette was a tapestry of desert hues and autumn shades, weaving through every intricate detail. The adventure began with a lavish glamping experience along the serene Virgin River, nestled within Utah’s iconic red-rock terrain at AutoCamp Zion. Mere minutes away from Zion National Park, couples are treated to a night of tranquility in a contemporary “silver bullet” Airstream, set within the sprawling 16-acre property.

NOTHING FANCY, JUST LOVE For those seeking an intimate vow exchange, the notion of an elopement announcement designed by Green Girl Design Co. adds a thoughtful touch to fill friends and family in on all the details. The stationery, adorned with endearing cactus illustrations and swirling gold calligraphy, embraces earthy tones and a commitment to sustainability with its 100% recycled cotton paper. Personalization was paramount, as the couple included Polaroid snapshots from their nuptials and a darling keychain by Beck Engraving Design Studio as a keepsake, ensuring the memory would forever be treasured.

INTIMATE RIVER VOWS
The allure of becoming husband and wife amidst the breathtaking backdrop of sandstone cliffs climbing out of the forested river bed to the brilliant blue of the sky is an irresistible setting to say, “I do.” An arrangement of beautiful florals from By Bloomers is organic and lush fitting perfectly into the terrain.
DESERT GARDEN VIBES The vision for an adventure-meets-luxury elopement continues in the open air over dinner for two curated by Forage Sisters, a bespoke field-to-table catering company owned by two women. Fresh florals and a secret bohemian garden-party aesthetic feels incredibly romantic and fun. The newlyweds indulged in a scrumptious menu consisting of crispy warm bread with flower petal butter, fall greens salad with feta, pine nuts and charred summer squash, honey butternut squash purée and slow cooked chicken with apricot, gorgonzola drizzle and thyme. Paired with a refreshing Bitter Lucy cocktail made with Aperol, tequila, St. Germain, honey simple syrup and lime juice.
ROMANTICALLY MODERN From savory to sweet, a modern vanilla bean wedding cake with zesty lemon curd and mixed berry basil buttercream dances across the palate, infusing each bite with a vibrant burst of citrusy delight. Yet, the enticement doesn’t cease there. The cake’s exterior designed by Lustr Creative showcases marbled fondant and rolled ribbed texture forming an artistic mosaic that captivates the eye.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES “Do what you want to do on your wedding day and not what you think is expected or tradition. We stayed true to ourselves and what we love and it couldn’t have been a more magical time. Also, plan early if you can!”

rockymountainbride.com / rocky mountain bride utah fall & winter 2023
In early 2017, Tessa and Jobe were introduced through a mutual friend. Jobe had recently moved back to the Midwest after spending four years in Seattle, Washington following his college graduation. Meanwhile, Tessa had been pursuing job opportunities in Chicago, Illinois, before she met Jobe. Their first date took place at Summit City Brewerks, a popular brewery located in downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana. Over beers and lively conversations, Tessa and Jobe discovered a remarkable connection and quickly hit it off. After years of dating long-distance, Jobe made the leap to join Tessa in Chicago, just in time to spend an unexpectedly large amount of time alone together due to the ensuing lockdowns and restrictions of the pandemic. Simple moments led to an intimate proposal on the Chicago Lakefront Trail along the shore of Lake Michigan. “We had talked for a few weeks about having breakfast at the lake with our new puppy, Jerry. The week before the proposal, Jobe suggested we do it the upcoming weekend since the weather was getting nice. We grabbed our favorite bagels and coffee and had a little picnic by the lake. Shortly after arriving, Jobe suggested we walk to the water and then got down on one knee and proposed,” Tessa remembers. Fast forward a year and a half, the couple decided upon a desert retreat surrounded by red rock cliffs and endless views in the heart of Utah’s Canyon Country.
“We wanted our destination wedding to be a location that was new to most guests and provide adventure, and Moab was the perfect fit,” Tessa and Jobe share. The couple tapped planner and floral designer, Val Hunter of Tellurian Events, to define the ambiance of the day with Izzy Photo & Film to capture moments as they unfolded. Tessa walked down the natural dirt path aisle to “Run” by Lane 8 as 70 guests seated on wooden benches rose to their feet. “Our ceremony was the highlight of the day. The backdrop was stunning and I just remember being very in the moment. The desert gave us such a magical feeling,” the bride reminisces.

SEPTEMBER 24
Brittany + Max
Brittany and Max have been together for nearly a decade and a half. The high school sweethearts sparked a connection on their first date at a local sushi restaurant in their hometown and the rest, as they say, is history. Given that the couple loves spending time together out West, and Max proposed in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, they immediately knew a destination wedding with their closest friends and family in the Rockies would be unlike anything in New York. “Most of our guests had not traveled to Park City before, so many of our loved ones were able to make extended vacations and trips out of the wedding weekend,” Brittany shares. The bride and groom kicked off the celebration in true western style with a themed welcome party at the Lodge at Blue Sky Tavern. Guests were invited to embrace the spirit of the Old West by donning western chic attire. And everyone certainly rose to the occasion, delivering a delightful display of high fashion and enthusiasm.

The wedding day was an intimate affair, with the couple’s closest loved ones standing by their side. In keeping with a vision of a simple yet elevated aesthetic, Brittany and Max asked their parents and bridesmaids to dress in navy, while the groomsmen were clad in various shades of tan and cream. The neutral color palette allowed the natural beauty of the surroundings to take center stage, as Max stood out in his striking burgundy suit, adding a touch of boldness to the ensemble. Brittany, of course, wowed in a modern-day Grace Kelly inspired gown by Monique Lhuillier that highlighted understated regality and tradition.

As the ceremony unfolded, no detail was spared including the inclusion of the couple’s dog, Cash. “He came ready to walk down the aisle with a fresh bath, blow out and little blue velvet bow tie, looking so dapper,” Brittany remembers. Brittany and Max exchanged vows against the Wasatch Mountain Range situated on a private, 3,500-acre ranch where a wooden arch framed the backdrop behind them and Cash sat nearby, a silent witness to the love and commitment his parents shared.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES “For any couples who are in our shoes of planning a destination wedding and don’t actually live out in the Rockies, we can say that a good wedding planner is everything! Alex + Eric
Alex and Eric go way back to their teenage years. The now-newlyweds had been acquaintances since they were just 16 years old. Growing up in the same neighborhood meant sharing mutual friends, however, it wasn’t until college that the two started seeing each other in a romantic light. When Eric’s twin brother attended school in the same city as Alex, Eric would often visit Santa Barbara, California. “I will never forget the first time we kissed. I ran out of the house and proclaimed, ‘I think I’m going to marry him!’ to friends in the street,” Alex laughs. The relationship evolved over the years, and after ten blissful years together, the couple decided to take a trip with friends to Bend, Oregon. Alex was eager to explore the different spots she had researched, including caves. Despite the snow and ice, Alex convinced Eric to climb through a tiny hole in one of the caves to see a canyon. The pair emerged into an awe-inspiring winter scene, with snow falling softly around them. As Alex gazed around in wonder, Eric was down on one knee, asking her to marry him. For their nuptials, the couple chose a white gambrel barn with a modern farmhouse style amongst rolling green fields on the banks of the Provo River. “River Bottoms Ranch took my breath away the minute I stepped in, I’m a sucker for a stellar view and backdrop. But Utah holds a special place in my heart because it’s where my siblings and I spent a lot of winters with our late grandfather and made a lot of great memories,” Alex shares.

The overall vision included nods to classic design with an emphasis on romantic and modern touches, and a hint of fun thrown in. As for wedding day attire, Alex slipped into a form-fitting silhouette adorned with delicately feminine pearls by Sarah Seven. While Eric donned a timeless black tuxedo and, of course, cowboy boots and a western hat for the dancing portion of the evening. With 85 guests in attendance, the bride and groom had one overarching goal: to include their dogs. “Eric and I treat them like children and we love to bring them everywhere, so it was super important to have them incorporated in the ceremony as well as details throughout the wedding decor. Our Zeke passed away a few months before the wedding which was heartbreaking for us, and we lost his sibling a few years before that, both to cancer, so it was really important for us to have a canine cancer fund in lieu of guest gift bags to honor their memory,” Alex explains.

Kenzie + Chandler

rockymountainbride.com / rocky mountain bride utah fall & winter 2023
Kenzie and Chandler’s story is one of true patience, friendship and love that grew steadily over the years. From their early middle school days, Chandler admired Kenzie from afar, and fate brought them together again when he visited her while she was attending college. With nerves and excitement, Chandler asked Kenzie on a dinner date, which turned into a lovely evening at the Copper Onion in downtown Salt Lake City. As life took them on separate journeys, the pair stayed connected through their travels and time zone differences. Summer baseball kept Chandler busy in Corvallis, Oregon, and Kenzie’s adventures abroad in New Zealand. When Kenzie returned to the States, Chandler seized the opportunity to make their relationship official, asking her to be his girlfriend on the picturesque beach of Newport, Oregon. After three and a half years of dating, Chandler proposed at The Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, California. The surprises didn’t end there, as Chandler secretly arranged for both their parents to join them in Napa Valley, California, to celebrate their engagement. Coming full circle, the couple chose to tie the knot nestled in the Wasatch Mountains on the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon at Snowpine Lodge. “I grew up spending winters in Alta with my family and have many memories of learning to ski as a child. As soon as Chandler and I started dating, he quickly fell in love with these mountains, too. One day after skiing, Chandler and I visited the Snowpine Lodge for a drink and we immediately knew we wanted to get married there. The view from the lawn looks right up at one of our favorite ski runs called High Rustler. Despite having spent countless winters and summers in Little Cottonwood Canyon, each time we drive into the mountains, it takes our breath away,” Kenzie shares. The bride and groom said, “I do” in front of 115 friends and family as a breathtaking stark white blanket of snow served as the backdrop. The sight of the snowflakes on guest hats and umbrellas during the ceremony added a touch of magic and made the day even more perfect than Kenzie and Chandler imagined. rocky mountain bride utah fall & winter 2023 / rockymountainbride.com

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES “Never forget why you fell in love with your spouse. It can be easy to focus on the negative, but try to remind yourself daily of all the reasons you love your significant other. Vienna and Chase were part of the same tightknit friend group for years, even traveling and sharing countless adventures together. It was during one of their trips that something special happened. Vienna and Chase experienced a shift in friendship, a serendipitous connection that transcended their relationship. Fast forward to a pivotal moment in their lives, Chase knew it was time to ask Vienna to marry him. He thoughtfully orchestrated a proposal straight out of a romantic movie scene. The setting was the breathtaking Wasatch Mountains near Alta Ski Resort. The couple ventured into the backcountry, their skis gliding through the pristine snow surrounded by the wintry landscape. As they came around a corner, Vienna was met with a sight that stopped her in her tracks. Chase had strung several photos of them between the trees, creating a nostalgic pathway filled with cherished memories. Overwhelmed with emotions, she, of course, wholeheartedly accepted Chase’s question. After a four-month engagement, Vienna and Chase welcomed 500 guests to celebrate their love and commitment to one another in an unbeatable après-ski style. The morning before the wedding, the bride and groom invited their loved ones to hit the slopes of Snowbasin with them. “Skiing has been a huge part of our lives. We both grew up skiing at Snowbasin, so it just seemed like the obvious thing for us to do together as we began this new adventure,” Vienna shares. Centered around romance, Vienna wore white and accessorized with her veil as Chase donned a black jacket. At the bottom, the soon-to-be newlyweds gave a toast to forever followed by a reception in the evening.
On Thursday, the following day, Vienna and Chase exchanged vows in a sacred ceremony held at the Ogden Utah Temple. In this special ordinance, they made a profound promise to each other, pledging to build a lasting bond as husband and wife here on earth as well as in heaven. Vienna stunned in a custom design by Pritchétt Bridal with a floral lace bodice, semi-transparent long sleeves, and a soft crepe skirt, while Chase donned a custom-made brown tweed suit and bolo tie.

After the ceremony, with a small break before dinner, the choice to indulge in ice cream was a no-brainer. Vienna and Chase, along with photographer Kierstin Jones, settled into a cozy spot at the old-fashioned Farr Better Ice Cream Shop, which has been serving sweet treats since 1929. The couple’s love for ice cream is a tradition they couldn’t resist even on their wedding day. “Every vacation we go on, we’ve made it a point to get ice cream at a new shop. It’s a must!” Vienna explains. From there, Vienna and Chase continued the celebration by gathering with their closest family and friends at Copper Nickel for a formal reception. As the evening drew to a close, the grand send-off awaited. Vienna slipped into a sparkling sequin jumpsuit where outside, loved ones lined the sidewalk, holding sparklers that flickered like stars against the night sky. Amidst the glistening lights, the Ogden Trolley pulled up, ready to whisk them away.

Kristina + Dayron
When Kristina and Dayron’s story began in the hallowed halls of the federal courthouse in Miami, Florida, they were young lawyers eager to make their mark. Fate brought them together as they both secured coveted positions as law clerks for the same esteemed federal judge. Little did they know that this shared career experience would lay the foundation for a beautiful romance. A judicial clerkship is a prestigious opportunity for green lawyers to gain invaluable knowledge and guidance from a seasoned judge. The position typically lasts for a year, during which the outgoing law clerk trains their successor to seamlessly transition into the role. It was on the last day of Kristina’s clerkship that she met Dayron, who was about to take over her responsibilities. Years later, the two reconnected and fell in love. To celebrate a milestone in their relationship, Kristina and Dayron traveled abroad on a dream vacation in Italy. The trip started with a stop in Northern Italy’s Lombardy Region, where Dayron rented a charming boat, packed a picnic basket filled with their favorite treats and ventured into the azure waters of Lake Como. The day unfolded like a fairytale, as they marveled at the picturesque scenery. It was there, surrounded by the Alps in the center of the lake, that Dayron knelt to one knee and asked Kristina to be his partner for life. “Dayron told the hotel staff his plans, and when we got back to the hotel, we were greeted with champagne and a cake that said ‘per sempre insieme’ meaning together forever,” Kristina reminisces.

With a six month engagement under their belt, the couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony tucked amongst the forested slopes of Montage Deer Valley. Although the wedding took place in the Rocky Mountains, Kristina and Dayron knew they wanted to incorporate their Cuban-American heritage into the day. “Our wonderful officiant spent weeks working with his courtroom interpreter to learn how to translate parts of the wedding ceremony to Spanish, so that all our guests felt included and honored. It was incredibly special,” the bride shares. At the reception, Kristina, Dayron, and 48 of their nearest and dearest danced the night away to Salsa and Merengue music.

Carolyne had noticed Riaz at the hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where they both worked. While their paths would often cross in the hallways, and they had several mutual friends, the two had never really connected on a personal level until Carolyne left the hospital. It all started with a shared love for running. They began to run together, initially as running buddies, but over time, their runs became more than just exercise. As they clocked miles together, Carolyne and Riaz grew closer, the chemistry between them was undeniable and it didn’t take long to realize that they had found something truly special. After two years of dating, the couple went on a glamping trip to Wimberly, Texas. Carolyne convinced Riaz to try horseback riding, knowing that he had never experienced it before. With a sense of adventure, they met their horses, Ace and Jazz, and set off for an excursion, just the two of them. Once at the top of the mountain, the guide watched over the horses while Carolyne and Riaz walked hand in hand towards a distant picnic table for refreshments. Riaz placed a small box on the table and got down on one knee. Just four months later, Carolyne and Riaz exchanged personal vows among Zion Canyon’s steep red cliffs.

“Gabriela Hotzel, my photographer, essentially planned it all, leaving me with zero stress. We had a few Zoom meetings prior to the trip to discuss the itinerary, but she took care of the rest. She helped with ideas in creating a unique experience, like visiting a coffee shop after sunrise photos,” Carolyne shares. The evening ended back at the Airbnb; a contemporary take on a classic cabin in the woods just minutes away from Zion National Park, where a private chef prepared a gourmet meal followed by a miniature all-white wedding cake designed by CBJ & Company that the newlyweds cut together.

Jaden & Conner
Jaden and Conner met at a Los Angeles Lakers basketball watch party that Jaden’s friend hosted and Conner just so happened to be there. It didn’t take long for the pair to make their relationship official and fall in love with each other. Two years later on a Sunday evening, Conner proposed at the ninth hole of Sleepy Ridge Golf Course. As soon as Conner put the ring on Jaden’s finger, all of their friends and family popped out of the bushes. Jaden was surrounded by the people she loved most, including her brand-new fiancé. On the day of the wedding, the couple’s ceremony took place in a secret garden room underneath a chandeliered arbor where stunning panoramic views of the Salt Lake Valley did not disappoint their nearly 600 guests.

Jaden’s dream of a romantic Italian-inspired wedding with a neutral color palette, fluffy focal blooms in shades of cream and ivory, and a silk duchess jacquard gown became a fairytale reality with the help of trusted local vendors. Once the bride and groom were married, the newlyweds and their loved ones moved to the indoor reception area where the atmosphere was simply breathtaking complete with a sophisticated black and white checkered dance floor. Guests noshed on traditional Italian cuisine, with a delicious pasta bar, creamy gelato, and not one, but two impressive cakes. As a sweet and thoughtful surprise, Jaden gifted her husband with a golf bag cake that had their initials and last name written in a modern font.

SUZANNE + ALEX
Shortly after meeting on a dating app, Suzanne and Alex went on their first date in Brooklyn, New York, which turned into a six hour adventure filled with coffee, walking a friend’s dog, enjoying tacos and playing tennis together. Fast forward three years to a pre-Thanksgiving holiday in Park City, where Alex planned a special proposal. During their lunch at the Montage, Alex then asked Suzanne to walk up the mountain with him. Suzanne sensed the gravity of the moment, as Alex’s sisters had previously told her to get her nails done weeks before. As they hiked to the summit, Suzanne curiously questioned the purpose of the daytime trek, and Alex’s heartfelt response was, “because I have something to give you, and I don’t want to hold on to it anymore.” Upon reaching the mountaintop, Alex got down on one knee and proposed with the stunning view of Park City behind him. When the time came to decide on the perfect wedding location, Park City emerged as an obvious choice for a classic winter romance.

Starting with the stationery, the ski-themed toile designed by Anticipate Invitations set the tone for the entire event. The same aesthetic carried through on the menus and even on the dance floor wrap. After scouring bridal boutiques in New York, Los Angeles, and Pittsburgh, Suzanne spotted a dress on Eisen Stein’s Instagram page. “I learned that the designer was hosting a trunk show on Long Island the following weekend, and the dress would be available for me to try on. As soon as I slipped into the dress during the fitting, I knew it was the one. I fell in love with its exquisite design and elegance, and without hesitation, I made the decision to purchase it right then and there. To mark the special moment, I even got to ring a cheesy bell,” the bride remembers.

Having the ceremony outdoors overlooking the Wasatch Mountains was a dream come true for the couple. However, with the weather being a bit unpredictable during that time of the year, there was concern. To ensure that the vision could be brought to life, the dedicated team at Stein Eriksen Lodge worked tirelessly, removing an impressive 76,000 lbs of snow off the deck in the week leading up to the wedding. Despite the snowstorms, the moment finally arrived. Surrounded by flurries of snow and sunshine, Suzanne and Alex exchanged vows in front of 150 guests.

Satin & Suede Modern sophistication takes center stage with the cream-colored plunging maxi dress, a creation by Shona Joy. Designed for a sexy yet chic bride, this dress boasts a luxurious satin finish that exudes opulence and grace. The plunging neckline adds a touch of allure, while the strategically placed cut-out details elevate its design, offering a glimpse of skin in a tasteful and intriguing manner. To complement the exquisite design, a white sand suede jacket with fringe detail is an ideal choice. This jacket introduces a hint of bohemian flair to the ensemble, its tactile fringe adding movement and texture. The juxtaposition of the smooth satin dress with the rugged charm of the suede jacket creates a harmonious balance that is both eye-catching and enchanting.
