BEGINNINGS

CARLIE + CODY

TUNNEL SPRINGS PARK

In 2019, Carlie spotted Cody at an Arizona State University football game and was smitten by his appearance. “When I first laid eyes on him I thought he was the most beautiful human I had ever seen. Soon after, I sent all my friends on a quest to set us up. I had a full blown crush and I was determined to meet him,” Carlie reminisces. A few months later, their mutual friends did indeed introduce them. As the couple celebrated their fourth anniversary, a new chapter was about to begin. Under the pastel hues of a Davie, Florida, sunset, amidst the tranquility of their beloved fishing spot, Cody proposed to Carlie. The moment was very intimate, and Carlie considers it perfect, just between the two of them.

GAME SET MATCH

Now that you and your partner are engaged, it’s time to capture the special occasion with a romantic photoshoot. Frazier & Co. Photography knows a thing or two about making your engagement session successful and personalized. Photography duo, Savanna and PJ, shares that location plays a crucial role in making your engagement photos unique. Do you and your partner have a favorite coffee shop where the barista knows both of your orders? Or was the spot of your first date at a memerable location? Use such places as inspiration for your shoot allowing you to keep your old memories while adding new. As with any photo session, it’s important to trust your photographer and the process. If you’re looking to incorporate a fun concept into your engagement shoot, make sure to hire a photographer who specializes in that kind of art.

rocky mountain bride utah spring & summer 2024 / rockymountainbride.com 25

LOVE ALL

Creating unique engagement photos requires intentionality. Savanna suggests one way to ensure that everyone is on the same page for the vibe of the shoot, including outfits, is to put together a vision board based on the desired concept. Remember, your photographer wants you and your partner to feel comfortable, which will enhance your confidence in front of the camera. To create a laid-back feeling in your engagement photos, act natural with your partner. Props are a great way to bring out your personality. Consider props that correspond to the environment or season, such as a round of golf in the spring or a friendly game of tennis in the summer.

Once you have the theme of your photos determined, work closely with your photographer to pick the best time of day for your session. Sunset, also known as the golden hour, is the best time to take outdoor engagement photos due to the beautiful lighting it provides. You can also experiment with the late blue hour and use on-camera flash for a different aesthetic. For spring and summer photoshoots, it’s best to schedule them early in the morning or late in the evening. Weather can always be unpredictable, however, some of the most breathtaking photos are captured in those spontaneous and unexpected moments that are embraced wholeheartedly.

RAINA + MICKY CANYON

POINT

Raina and Micky, like many in the digital age, met on the dating app Tinder. Fast forward one year, Micky boarded a 20-hour flight from China to visit Raina. The two jetted off to New York for a fun getaway but plans went awry when Raina fell ill. Despite having a fever for four days, Micky stepped in and took care of Raina, before popping the question in their city hotel once she was on the mend.

The couple’s wedding was an intimate affair in the United States at a secluded resort in Utah’s wild allure. “Micky gravitated toward the Aman hotels, so we ultimately chose Amangiri and found Ciaran Mae to be our photographer,” Raina recalls. The newlyweds wandered through the 600-acre sanctuary and Antelope Valley during the day followed by a romantic dinner later that evening. At dusk, Raina and Micky watched the stars and roasted marshmallows in the resort’s outdoor lounge. “We plan to hold another traditional Chinese wedding with our loved ones in China in 2024,” the bride shares.

love struck

Baylie Ranae approaches weddings with one goal: to authentically capture the essence of each love story through candid emotion and connection. “The inspiration for this styled shoot was something that would make you feel something, I wanted to focus on connection and emotion, that felt editorial and romantic,” shares Baylie. To achieve this goal, Baylie collaborated with a talented all-women vendor team.

COVER

Lovestruck, the bride and groom roamed around the city streets of Downtown Salt Lake City in true newlywed bliss. An ethereal tulle gown designed by Lace and Beads is the epitome of contemporary romance featuring off-the-shoulder sleeves, a plunging neckline and ruffles down the skirt. With the desire to incorporate pops of colors and the changing of seasons, Sydney Johnson of Merci Floral used Distant Drum Roses in playful pink to pay homage to summer while simultaneously honoring autumn with rich, warm hues.

Garden Party Couture

The Bonneville Salt Flats, located just 110 miles west of Salt Lake City, is a breathtaking natural wonder stretching over 30,000 acres. This vast expanse of glittering salt has long been hailed as a popular destination for dreamy weddings, thanks to its minimalist feel and stunning white scenery that sets the stage for love stories. Sheri Steele, the creative force behind Steele Magnolias Design, envisioned a garden couture editorial infused with vibrant hues of pink and purple, mirroring the ethereal cotton candy skies seen at dusk. Ashlyn French Photography captured the moment perfectly.

The bride resembled an angel in her exquisite pearl gown crafted by Pritchétt Bridal. As guests gathered for the ceremony, transparent chiavari chairs lined the aisles like a fashion runway, ensuring everyone had a clear view of the heartfelt vow exchange. Adding to the enchantment, an innovative horseshoe-shaped ombré floral installation adorned the landscape, featuring cascades of larkspur, snapdragons, dahlias, garden roses, mums and delphiniums in a lush display of natural beauty.

The bridesmaids were dressed in mismatched ethereal dresses from Anthropologie, while the groomsmen wore classic black suits by DC Tuxedos. As the reception unfolded, the tablescape emerged as a work of art, decorated with script-inspired menu cards, fine china, silver flatware, cut crystal and urn-style floral vessels, all set atop a romantic lace overlay. To add an extra special touch to the aesthetic and party portion of the evening, Selena Taylor handpainted a bottle of Veuve Clicquot for a special toast to the newlyweds.

A Lambeth cake with two tiers made by Caked by Chan was decorated beautifully with ornate buttercream and feminine frills. The cake had a throwback style and was displayed on an acrylic stand with pink gypsophila at the base to soften and ground the overall look.

Nestled in the heart of the picturesque Utah Valley, Amavi Event Venue graces historic Main Street in downtown Spanish Fork, just south of Provo. With its modern white walls and inviting wood tones, Amavi offers couples an enchanting setting to exchange vows in a truly romantic ambiance. Drawing inspiration from the harmonious blend of contemporary and vintage design elements, Tanaya of Bumble and Blossom teamed up with Elizabeth of Ink & Petal to craft a wedding editorial that seamlessly marries aesthetics with meaning.

From the stationery to the attire, the color palette included elegant shades of pistachio, butter, chartreuse, dusty bubblegum, mulberry and soft pastel brick tones. The bride looked absolutely stunning in a custom-made Boda Bridal gown, featuring delicate lace, intricate beadwork and carefully crafted embroidery. The fitted silhouette was designed to accentuate her natural beauty while her chic and modern minimalist hairstyle, in the form of a ponytail, completed the ensemble. She was the epitome of romance.

Within the dinner space, long farmhouse tables featured a full arrangement of garden roses and fluffy peonies in shades of pink and warm neutrals. Delicate cosmos and poppies were added for subtle pops of color, while pale chartreuse anthuriums were used as a unique focal point. Anticipated to trend in the 2024 wedding season, these flowers are prized for their architectural shapes and unusual colors. The table settings featured multiple layers of china adorned with vibrant butterfly patterns, complemented by exquisite textiles and gold flatware accentuated with gorgeous dusty rose handles.

Ashlyn & karyssa

Ashlyn and Karyssa first met while both working as nurses in Lincoln, Nebraska. “I actually trained her at work so it was a whole Grey’s Anatomy kind of thing,” Ashlyn jokes. Three years later, Ashlyn proposed on a travel nursing assignment in Utah. The couple took a trip to hike at Zion National Park which proved to be the perfect place to pop the question. Coming full circle, Ashlyn and Karyssa chose to host an intimate wedding at The Wild Oak, where the serenity of a small town meets the magic found in classic literature. The property that was once an apple orchard warehouse effortlessly transformed into an upscale garden party affair.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES

“Try not to stress about the small stuff and to always remember at the end of the day, you’re marrying your best friend! That’s the most important thing and honestly, nothing else really matters.”

The brides worked with wedding planner and florist Authenica to execute their vision of a multi-hued, floral focused celebration. The multicolored day was complemented by feminine and fun fashion as Ashlyn wore a sleek, yet sophisticated crepe gown and Karyssa stood out in a contemporary, chic dress featuring pleated tulle sleeves. During the reception, Ashlyn and Karyssa stepped away from the party for an outfit change. While the wedding dresses were beautiful and timeless, the second ensembles were fun and sexy!

callie & seth

Callie and Seth shared several mutual friends as Callie attended Utah Tech University, located in the heart of St. George, where Seth grew up. However, they first met each other at a campout, connected and went their separate ways. After a year, fate brought them together again and their friendship turned into a beautiful relationship. Eight months later, a local photographer contacted the couple and asked to take photos of them to grow her portfolio. The photographer arranged the shoot in Pine Valley, where Callie and Seth’s love story began. Seth took this opportunity to surprise Callie with a proposal. Callie shared that she always dreamt of a proposal in a special location and Seth managed to make her dreams come true. As a wedding planner, it was extremely important to Callie to have her wedding somewhere she hadn’t worked before or seen very often, which was a difficult feat. That all changed when Callie was flipping through a magazine and found The Villa; a Tuscan-inspired venue set in the middle of a 117-year-old pear orchard.

All of them!! It seriously felt like I had the best vendor team in the world. Teresa, from The Villa, absolutely amazed me and she helped make every crazy idea come to life! You can tell she truly cares about her clients and wants The Villa to live to a higher standard. Our planning meetings were often four hours long!

The bride walked down the aisle to the sound of an acoustic guitar playing a rendition of “I Can’t Help Falling in Love”. Callie recalls feeling an overwhelming sense of gratitude and love as she took her first steps towards Seth. She then experienced a moment of clarity, where her focus was solely on the love of her life waiting for her at the end of the aisle. Later at the reception, the newlyweds cut into a threetiered cake made by Maile Cake Design. The cake was a whimsical masterpiece with buttercream flowers in various shades of pink cascading down the sides.

SNOWBIRD // JUNE 17

Taylor and Forrest met at the University of Florida, where Taylor was on the Dazzlers dance team and Forrest worked for athletics. During their first four years in Gainesville, the pair traveled to several places together for sports. However, it wasn’t until Taylor graduated that Forrest expressed his feelings. Four years later, on their final summer adventure before Taylor returned to school as a teacher and Forrest prepared for football season, Forrest proposed. The couple visited Forrest’s family cottage in Door County, Wisconsin, spent the day doing their favorite small-town activities, including a walk down the backroads, a lunch date, hiking and a round of mini-golf at The Red Putter. Later that day, Forrest surprised Taylor by taking her to a family friend’s property on Lake Michigan. There, he asked her the ultimate question, and after Taylor said, “Yes,” they celebrated with champagne and a home-cooked meal while watching the sunset. Right away, Taylor and Forrest knew they wanted to get married somewhere surrounded by the natural splendor of the outdoors. Snowbird Ski Resort was their venue of choice, with a stunning view of Little Cottonwood Canyon, as well as the fact that it would be the perfect hub for a full weekend itinerary with their 120 guests.

what songs made everybody dance

Our DJ, Ricky Barrera, was so amazing. Truly every song he played had the dance floor packed. One song that sticks out in my mind was our bridal party entrance song. Since Forrest and I met through our love of college basketball, our bridal party entrance was inspired by the college basketball atmosphere. It was a mash-up of Thunderstruck and Zombie Nation and our guests loved it! From the moment the song started, guests were dancing and cheering from their tables. We also had pom-poms and shakers from the University of Florida that guests were able to shake and it created an electric atmosphere.

Vendors That Went Above and Beyond

We had amazing vendors! I cannot thank Kate and Adri from Kate Elizabeth Events and Whitney from Whitney Hunt Photography enough!

Kate and Adri made the wedding planning process so smooth and stress free from day one. Whitney felt like we knew her our whole lives. She made Forrest and I feel so comfortable in front of the camera and captured all of our favorite moments throughout our wedding weekend.

With an A-team in place including Kate Elizabeth Events, Whitney Hunt Photography, and Janie’s Flowers, Taylor and Forrest tied the knot in a classicly styled celebration, complemented with a lush mountain backdrop. The couple said, “I do” on the Magpie Terrace amongst Aspen trees, danced all night in the Cliff Lodge and jumped in the outdoor rooftop pool for an after-party like no other. “What had started as the bridal party jumping in, quickly turned into most of our guests also jumping in. That memory is one that we will cherish forever!” Taylor shares.

SPANISH FORK & SOLITUDE // JULY 27

Kate and Akrit met on Hinge while Kate was traveling for work to California from Washington DC. After eight months of dating, Akrit asked Kate to marry him on the coast of the Arabian Sea as the sun slowly slipped into the horizon. The couple decided to host their Hindu ceremony at the Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple, modeled after a famous devotional palace in India called Kusum Sarovar. Kate wore a Kanjivaram silk saree in a shade of orange and red with gold detailing. The Kanjivaram silk is native to Tamil Nadu, India where the threads are dipped in a gold leaf before being woven to give the saree its luxurious shine. As part of tradition, henna designs were applied to the bride’s hands; she even had her groom’s name included in the piece.

92 rockymountainbride.com / rocky mountain bride utah spring & summer 2024

The following day was the American wedding, a classic mountain celebration held at Solitude Mountain Resort. Kate looked like a real-life princess, wearing a ball gown featuring a structured tulle skirt and a floral lace-covered bodice. During the ceremony, Kate and Akrit intentionally deviated from traditional elements and walked down the aisle together. “For us, this symbolized approaching our marriage in unison and harmony,” Kate shares.

Kate and Akrit exchanged handwritten vows in the surroundings of Big Cottonwood Canyon, in the presence of 125 of their loved ones. Kate notes that the mountains felt like a shared ground, where their diverse group of guests could all feel the presence of awe and beauty, regardless of their cultural background. At the reception, everyone rushed to the dance floor, where they enjoyed both Bollywood music and Western hits.

Our photographer, Alora Lani! She was so on it. She looked at sites before our engagement to make sure the weather hadn’t impacted where she wanted to take us. She gave us tips to help our photos turn out amazing. She went above and beyond to capture our families. She sent a Starbucks gift card the week of the wedding and the cutest Toronto-Mohapatra doormat. Plus, she’s just fun to hang out with. Cannot recommend her more highly!!!

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES

“Our wedding was full of embracing and expanding traditions. We expanded the boundaries of wedding tradition to be wide enough to work for us. We altered traditions on both sides to be less patriarchal and give a sense of approaching our wedding together and on equal footing. Prioritize thinking through how to make your wedding meaningful for you both.”

KAMAS // AUGUST 19TH

Amanda and Zeppelin have their mutual friends to thank for their introduction. After two months of phone calls while living in different states and adventurous dates consisting of snowboarding and mountain biking, the duo decided to make their relationship status official. Fast forward two years, the couple was living in a 250 square-foot tiny house with a red wood hot tub on the river. It’s where they fell in love, and had been building their life together. While Amanda was at work, Zeppelin was busy preparing cocktails, a charcuterie board and lining the path from the home to the hot tub with candles and flowers. That evening, Zeppelin asked Amanda to marry him with her late mother’s ring. As Amanda and Zeppelin started wedding planning, it was deeply important to host a celebration that allowed their guests to stay on site for more than a few hours. The couple prioritized a venue with overnight accommodations and no curfew to how long they could play music. “Our DJ stopped at 5:00 am as we stumbled off to our cabin for bed with our dog,” Amanda says.

Since Amanda and Zeppelin are known for dressing their best, they encouraged guests to wear incredible outfits, even if it meant wearing white. On the morning of the wedding day, Amanda got ready in a satin slip before stepping into an effortlessly gorgeous dress by Israel designer, Flora. The bride finished her look with a breathtaking veil adorned in intricate embroideries and subtle shimmer from Rue De Seine. “The hawk on my veil was for my mother who passed away, those who knew her, have witnessed her come back as a hawk,” Amanda shares.

While Amanda always imagined she would feel extremely nervous standing at the altar, she felt nothing but the purest sense of joy she’s ever known with the love of her life by her side. As Amanda and Zeppelin exchanged vows, a hawk peacefully circled in the distance followed by an incredible roar of thunder through the mountains and strikes of lightning that lit up the sky. “It was magical,” Amanda notes. The rain held off until the newlyweds’ very last family photo, before they ran to what they will forever remember as the best party in history.

Samantha from Adventure Love Story. She really went above and beyond. Sam came Friday and shot all evening during our Disco Space Cowboy party then captured everything Saturday from kickball to us getting ready into the late hours of the night.

She also joined us on the dancefloor once she put her camera down at 11pm, and danced with us all night long. Also, due to the rain, we couldn’t get any photos of Zeppelin and I after the ceremony. We only had time for family photos before the rain came back. She offered us a pick up shoot after the wedding at our little property on the river weeks later at no cost and these are some of our favorite pictures because we were in our home, with our animals just feeling so relaxed and I think it shows in the images. She captured every moment so perfectly.

“Do what makes you happy, simplify everything and focus on the fact that the entire purpose of this event is to marry your person. Nothing else matters but having a good time.”

devyn & Joe

BRIAN HEAD // AUGUST 25

What began as a causal connection over bikes quickly progressed into a bikepacking trip in the desert just weeks after they met. Although Devyn and Joe both knew it was love, they patiently waited to say those three meaningful words. Six months later, the couple ventured into the backcountry with friends, and somehow Devyn had no idea that a proposal was in the works. On the second day, the group embarked on an intense hike, during which Devyn noticed Joe acting a bit strange. While Joe had planned to pop the question at the summit and have a friend take photos, circumstances changed. At the halfway point, Joe asked Devyn to marry him with just the two of them at the most imperfectly perfect moment, dropping to his knees while still strapped into his split boards. “The moment was very us,” Devyn shares. For their wedding, Devyn and Joe wanted a place that represented their relationship and encompassed the activities they love doing together.

The couple discovered everything they were looking for and more in Cedar Breaks National Monument, and chose Haley Nord Photography to capture candidly what a perfect day with friends and family would look like. Located at an elevation of 10,000 feet, Devyn and Joe exchanged their vows among bristlecone pines, lush meadows of wildflowers and the richness of the subalpine forest. After the ceremony, the newlyweds carved out time for themselves and went biking along the beautiful mountain trails. The evening ended at a modern rental property where Devyn and Joe hosted a dinner reception and enjoyed the company of their loved ones while laughing and having fun.

SALT

Ayesha & Kyle

Ayesha and Kyle met on a dating app, like many modern couples do. Their first date was a delightful dive into the cozy charm of Mazza, a restaurant with delicious Middle Eastern flavors. Ayesha was smitten by Kyle’s sharp wit which was even sharper than the spices on their plates. Unfortunately, the second date became a waiting game with medical school pulling Ayesha into its whirlwind. However, Kyle was thoughtful and persistent. He swooped in, not with a grand gesture, but with something even better for a stressed student, a perfectly wrapped burrito. The rest was history, along with Kyle’s ongoing nickname “burrito boy.” Three and a half years later, knowing Ayesha’s love for surprises, Kyle spent months with the help of her friends and family, planning a proposal in the same spot where the couple had their first kiss. This time, instead of hiking to the top of a lake in Big Cottonwood Canyon, they would ski down a run at Solitude Ski Resort. After Kyle got down on one knee and asked Ayesha to marry him, they skied to the base where all of their friends had set up an engagement party tailgate.

CITY

Ayesha and Kyle invited 260 guests to celebrate their nuptials at Wasatch Farms, where they would spend several days. The venue offered a grandiose view of the mountain range and the valley at sunset, which not only highlighted their love for the outdoors, but made an ideal blank canvas for their Indian wedding. The couple enlisted the services of Fuse Weddings & Events to help bring their timeless and elegant wedding vision to life. Ayesha recalls the moment when they finally settled on the color scheme for their reception, which was one of many surreal moments. The weekend festivities included several cultural traditions, and fashion was also a significant aspect of the celebration. Ayesha wore three custom-made outfits for the three main events, all of which were designed and stitched in India. The bride and her mother spent two weeks shopping for dresses in Mumbai. For the Sangeet, a night of music, dancing and performances, Ayesha opted for a playful dress that matched the event’s mood. She found a stunning hand-stitched raw silk design by Aisha Rao with unique applique detailing.

Ayesha and Kyle were aware that some of their guests may be attending their first Indian ceremony. Therefore, it was essential for them to have translation elements available. The couple provided guests with a card that explained each part of the ceremony in English and also had a family member present to translate the importance of each tradition. For the ceremony, Ayesha envisioned a modern twist on the traditional red lehenga. She decided to go with a beautiful bone-colored silk lehenga designed by Mala and Kinnary with over 3,000 pearls hand-sewn onto it, which proved to be a dream ensemble.

rocky mountain bride utah spring & summer 2024 / rockymountainbride.com 121

During the ceremony, a Hindu performed the marriage rites and rituals, which held great significance for Ayesha. The vows taken by the bride and groom during the seven steps around the fire were particularly special and meaningful. Later, at the reception, Ayesha wore a lehenga in shades of burgundy, red and champagne pink to highlight the traditional bridal color. She was thrilled to find that the gown had a lot of movement, which made it the perfect choice for dancing the night away.

MOAB // SEPTEMBER 22

Destrie & Brandon

Destrie and Brandon’s relationship has been defined by adventure from the start. Their love story began during their first trip to Moab, where they started to fall in love with each other. Coming full circle, the couple decided to host their wedding amongst the same rugged canyons and dreamy desert sands. “When we talked about our story, we both remember those feelings being on our first trip together, which was a camping trip to Moab. The best part is that the location where we were married overlooks the canyon toward Dead Horse State Park, which is also where we camped. It was truly so special to us that the backdrop to our ceremony is where we felt an undeniable connection,” Destrie shares.

Their wedding took place at Red Earth Venue, surrounded by red rock cliffs and epic open views. Equal parts romantic, western chic and timeless with a twist, the day was nothing short of a real-life dream. Destrie relied on Tara Baker of Terra Vida Events and floral designer Morgan Cullimore of Olive & Sage to define the aesthetic of the event. The ladies exceeded expectations and delivered breathtaking design details, including dried floral arrangements with white orchids, roses and delicate baby’s breath. However, like many Rocky Mountain towns, the weather can be unpredictable. Gusts of wind ripped through the beautiful ceremony, knocking down a majority of the setup. The dust settled just in time for Destrie and Brandon to say “I do.” Brandon reflects on the day saying, “that while things at a wedding won’t always go perfect, it is a part of the story.”

After spending years designing the perfect gown for thousands of brides, Destrie, co-owner and designer at Boda Bridal, radiated in a custom fit-and-flare gown designed by herself truly. The bride thoughtfully incorporated several symbols and special details into the dress design, such as the number 11:11, which held a profound significance in Destrie’s life. The lucky number was etched into the very fabric of the dress, along with the “M” shape on the back boning that represented her new last name. Additionally, the crystal and clear beading on the straps and under the slit added a touch of sparkle, embodying the stars in the Moab night sky.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES

“I would suggest taking the time to add special little details and special moments! The planning can be overwhelming, but it is easy to lose the little details. A lot of our small details might not have worked out, but a TON of them did. Those special little moments will be so worth it! Enjoy every phase of your journey! Don’t sit and wait for the wedding day, enjoy the engagement phase too! And, then on your wedding day, let it ALL go - and simply focus on you and the love of your life! Here is what we kept saying, ‘Remember, nobody knows what you planned,’ so if anything did not go according to plan, let it go! We fully enjoyed every moment of our day!”

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES

“Admiring your partner for who they are is the best way to keep harmony between couples. Also, looking for what’s best in each other.”

Maycon and Cody met each other on a dating app, like many other couples in the twenty-first century. It was love at first swipe, and two years later, Cody proposed to Maycon during a New Year’s Eve countdown at Bear Lake. Today, Maycon and Cody have been happily married for nearly three years and decided to have an anniversary session with Morgan & Joel Photo. They wanted to capture a peaceful atmosphere, with neutral colors thoughtfully chosen. The couple selected Provo Canyon as their location, with its meadow flowers and mountains providing an ideal backdrop for their photoshoot.
