EDITOR’S LETTER

Being born and raised in Colorado, I found my love for the Rockies in a state that holds so many beautiful places. Through the years, I’ve been lucky enough to travel to many of the other states across the Rockies and have found a certain charm to all of them. Something about the fresh air blowing through the evergreens, or the sand blowing across the Southwest deserts, and the aqua blue lakes in the north, I couldn’t think of a better place to say “I do!” than the Rockies.

As I begin to plan my own Rocky Mountain wedding using RMB, I find myself in awe of the talented local vendors in each pocket of the Rocky Mountain region. I hope that within these pages you will find all the inspiration and tips you need to make your day everything you want it to be. We’ve scouted the best of the best in your area to provide you trusted local vendors. Happy planning!

K E YSTO N E & S I LV E RT H O R N E 1 0 1 Advice for a perfect Keystone trip featuring favorite spots of the area. Like all of Colorado, the weather can change in the blink of an eye. Planning ahead can make all of the difference for your guests and you.

dani cowan photography

S E A S O N A L W E AT H E R Situated between the Continental Divide and Gore Range and brimming with winter and summer activities, Keystone and Silverthorne shine as ideal wedding locations in the Colorado Rockies. From June to September, the weather is warm and sunny, making it the most popular time of the year to tie the knot. If you are looking for that warm weather vibe and plenty of rays, July might be your best bet with average temps in the high 60s. For clear skies and cool nights, September stands as the clearest month in Keystone and Silverthorne. On the other hand, if you are wanting a cozy ambiance to your day, look to January when the city is often blanketed with snow. For a more moody day, check out March and July. While there is a high chance of afternoon rain, storm clouds instantly add a dramatic feel, and they say rain on your wedding day is good luck, right?

W H AT T O P A C K Guiding guests on what to pack for your wedding can take a lot of the guesswork out of their decision. Feel free to add your wedding attire, whether it be cocktail casual or black-tie optional, to your wedding website. Here is also a great place to add little tidbits too, such as packing a shawl for the cooler months, sunglasses if you are having an outdoor summer ceremony, and reminding guests to drink plenty of water to avoid altitude sickness.

ACTIVITIES During the winter months, hit the slopes of Keystone Resort, the largest ski area in Summit County. Spread across three peaks, with more than 3,000 acres of terrain, Keystone Resort is perfect for beginners to more advanced skiers and snowboarders. After a day on the mountain, warm up with apres ski snacks and sips at one of the resort’s many on-site dining lodges and lounges. Get your heart pumping in the fresh mountain air on one of the many hiking trails in the White River National Forest. For an easy hike with stunning views, the Meadow Loop and Ridge Trail is a 4.6 mile loop trail near the Dillon Reservoir. Or for something more challenging, try the 4.6 mile, out and back Ptarmigan Trail near Silverthorne that is filled with wildflowers in the spring. From winter to summer, River Run Village at Keystone Resort offers guests countless things to do from shopping at local boutiques to dining on delicious local cuisine along with convenient lodging close to the River Run Gondola. Grab a casual bite at 9280’ Tap House, known for their Mountain of Nachos, or pop into Rockin R’ Ranch Trading Post or Arriesgado Clothing Company for a little shopping.

“The highlight of our ceremony is also my favorite moment of the day -- reading love letters we wrote to each other. Our guests loved them too. A lot of people told us it was the first wedding they had been to where they really got a sense of the couple’s relationship and love. That meant a lot to us.”

“Colorado is where Andrew and I fell in love. We wanted people to share in our love story and the Rocky Mountains have been a huge part of it.”

Michelle and Ryan’s love story started in the Rockies when they met on a ski trip to Crested Butte. Four years later, they were back in Crested Butte with friends for another ski trip. Michelle had mentioned she either wanted to get engaged or married in the tiny town that held so much meaning to their relationship, and Ryan had taken that request to heart. After a day of skiing, Ryan popped the question, and Michelle happily said, “Yes!” The pair celebrated with friends and a champagne toast. Michelle and Ryan planned a fall mountain wedding for October 13th.

Danielle + Denim loveland pass

real beginnings

Danielle met Denim while they both worked at Texas Roadhouse, they flirted two years before they finally made the leap to go out on a date together. Denim taught Danielle how to snowboard and 5 years later they snowboarded at their favorite resort, Keystone Resort. They then set off on a family trip to Utah where Denim’s family was, at Solitude Ski Resort they ventured to the highest peak that you could snowboard down. Denim’s mom suggested to take a picture, Denim encouraged Danielle to just do it because it was a new mountain. Before Danielle knew it, Denim was on one knee asking Danielle to marry him. Danielle said yes with puddles of tears luckily caught by her snowboarding goggles.

Q & A with

Silverthorne Pavilion By: Erin Mitschele

What is your favorite part of the job? Being in such a happy and positive environment during weddings,. Everyone is in such a great mood and celebrating- you get to experience the best day of peoples lives with them while you are at work.

Do you have a favorite took of the trade? Our scheduling software- Total Party Planner. We would be lost without it.

Where do you come up with your ideas? The best ideas are generated during staff brainstorming sessions. We have a great team and come up with the best ideas by talking it out and feeding off each-others energy.

What is one thing you wish you could educate your clients on? The importance of a wedding coordinator to tie everything together. The Silverthorne Pavilion has a building attendant that assists with building related tasks during weddings but does not act as a wedding planner.

What is your dream creation? Creating a beautiful arch for our venue!

Worst Wedding SNAFU? I opened an explosive bottle of champagne in font of a long line of guests. It was packed with people all around me so I had to let the whole bottle explode onto me & my face. (This is also my most embarrassing wedding moment ;)

Which job would you like to try for a day? Being a florist, putting together arrangements and centerpieces.

What is your Biggest Indulgence? Chocolate and Coffee.

What is your favorite journey? Working Weddings in Australia for a year.

What is your idea of perfect happiness? Beautiful sunny day exploring in the mountains.

What do you do in the “off” season? We don’t have an off season ;) The Pavilion has back to back events year round! We do a lot more concerts, comedy shows, and non-profit fundraisers at the Pavilion in the winter when there are fewer weddings.
