Locarno Film Festival is the most significant cinematographic event in Switzerland and among the most important in Europe. Numerous are the movies presented in four different sections: Concorso internazionale, Concorso Cineasti del presente and the sections Pardi di domani (national and international).

The 74th edition of the Locarno Film Festival starts on Wednesday, 4 August until Saturday, 14 August. This year, the Locarno Film Festival returns to its original form with a rich program of films and activities, with its iconic Piazza Grande and all other theaters, with its events and with the new Rotonda by la Mobiliare.

Brother Jun, a religious brother and photojournalist in his 40’s, spends his evenings going after crime scenes and funerals to document cases. Again and again, he listens to mothers, fathers, and wives telling of how their loved ones were killed. Victims also tell him of abuses by drug enforcement police, including a secret jail where they detain and torture people to extort money. Brother Jun and his colleagues expose the secret jail, but with a disastrous aftermath.

She bagged the Best Director award for MANONG NG PA- ALING at the 13th Cinemalaya, receiving its international premiere at the 32nd Fribourg, winning the Jury Prize & an official selection for Locarno 2020. Her debut feature project, SAM is developed with Locarno Film Festival’s Open Doors Hub, SGIFF’s SEA Film Lab, Full Circle Lab, APostLab & TorinoFilmLab where it won the FOCAL Resource Award. Stelle Laguda is a Philippine-based producer, creative consultant, and founder of KT House Productions. She is currently an Associate Producer at Epicmedia Productions, handling several international co-production projects with Ireland for “Nocebo” and Switzerland for “Electric Child.” Pamela L. Reyes is an award-winning Filipino producer & script consultant with 10 years of experience in producing films, series, and advertising commercials under her company CREATE CINEMA. She has participated in prestigious labs & markets including EAVE Ties That Bind, Berlinale Talents, Torino Film Lab, Asian Project Market, and Cannes Producers Network. Pamela has produced a number of successful films which have reached international heights including “Birdshot”, the first Filipino film on Netflix and the Philippines’ official entry to the 2018 Academy Awards.

Bianca Balbuena is a Philippine-based producer, writer and CEO of Epicmedia Productions Inc. which has produced over 30 feature films, shorts and series most notably Venice Film Festival Lion of the Future and Orrizonti Best Film “Engkwentro” by Pepe Diokno and Berlinale Silver Bear “A Lullaby To The Sorrowful Mystery” by Lav Diaz, Cannes Film Festival Critics Week’s “The Manila Lover” by Johanna Pykko, and local blockbuster hits “That Thing Called Tadhana” and “Patay Na Si Hesus”. She has also done several co-productions with Japan, Australia, France, Norway, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and most recently with Ireland starring Eva Green and Mark Strong. Currently a mentor at Locarno Open Doors and EAVE’s ambassador for Asia, she is also the recipient of the 2018 Busan’s Asian Film Commissions (AFC) Network Producer of the Year and the youngest awardee of the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) FIAPF Award for outstanding contribution to Asia Pacific cinema. The self-contained cosmos of the golf and country club reflects Philippine societal structures. New ‘tee-girl’ Isabel still needs to learn the rules, but she’s already looking for ways to subvert the system.

Rafael Manuel is a Filipino artist currently based in London. His latest short film, ‘Filipiñana’, won the Silver Bear Jury Prize at the 70th Berlinale International Film Festival. His debut feature project has been chosen to be developed at the Cannes Cinéfondation La BeforeResidence.taking up his MA in filmmaking at the London Film School, he worked as a copywriter for Saatchi & Saatchi and as a creative director for TBWA. His work in advertising has won numerous prizes at international advertising festivals such as the Cannes Lions, D&AD, London International, Spikes, and AdFest. His foundations are in philosophy and visual communications which he studied at the Ateneo de Manila University. He is the co-founder of Idle Eyes Productions - a London-based artist collective that manifests itself in the audio-visual field.

A 50-year old man’s search for his transdaughter in the streets of Patpong, Thailand. Finding himself in a curiously unique friendship with Mali, a thai sex worker. But as fate would have it, Henry and Mali’s roadtrip ends in grief after learning that his daughter had passed away and he missed his chance for reconciliation.
