The FDCP’s participation in the Busan Film Festival and Asian Contents and Film Market is pursuant to the fulfillment of the Agency’s mandate pursuant to Republic Act 9167 Sec. 4 to encourage and undertake activities that will promote the growth and development of the local film industry and promote its participation in both domestic and foreign markets.

By participating in one of the biggest and most significant film festivals in Asia, FDCP offers the Philippines access to diverse global networks, screenings, and festival and industry activities that would allow delegates to explore and secure international partnerships and cooperations on all levels and aspects of film and audiovisual production.

The Busan International Film Festival has grown from Korea’s first international film festival to Korea’s largest, and has become a film festival loved by many filmmakers and audiences not only in Asia but also in the world.

As the largest film festival in Asia, it has won the heart of filmmakers and industry professionals who appreciate the programming and the festival offering that spans the cultural, creative, development, and industry aspects. Happening simultaneously is the Asian Contents and Film Market.

FILIPINO FILMS AT THE FESTIVAL

In the early days of its establishment, it was simply focused on building the best film festivals in Asia and promoting Korean films to the world. Today, it is also serving as a bridgehead to promote Asian films to the world by discovering and supporting various films and talented filmmakers.

As a non-competitive film festival that rose to the top in such a short time, the Busan International Film Festival played a decisive role in making Busan the center of the film industry and the city of film.

Five Filipino films are featured in this year’s festival.

ASIAN PROJECT MARKET

Asian Project Market (APM) is the first launched co-production platform in Asia that offers emerging filmmakers the opportunity to meet international leading film professionals.

After launching in 1998 as Pusan Promotion Plan (PPP), it has grown into the biggest and most important pre-market in Asia. In 2011, it was renamed as Asian Project Market and has been successfully delivering its role as the cradle of creativity.

Each year APM discovers fresh feature film projects ranging from big-scale commercial ones to low-budget indies to link them with global film investors, producers, and distributors. Numerous APM projects have already made it through to completion and received positive responses from both film festivals and international audiences. As such, APM continues to earn greater interest from filmmakers around the world.

This year, the Film Philippines Office will be joining the Asian Project Market and will meet with the selected projects and explore possible co-productions with the Philippines and offer FPO incentives and grants.

AFIS (ASIAN FILM SCHOOL)

Busan Asian Film School (AFiS) is located in Asia’s first UNESCO-designated City of Film, Busan. This educational facility has been founded in 2016 to foster the development of the global film industry for the benefit of professionals and filmmakers from around the world.

AFiS is also seeking an Asian aesthetic and beauty which is found within and reflects the cultural diversity of Asia, and to prepare the film industry for a foundation to share its strengths among other Asian countries, and while accelerating the growth of the domestic film industry, see likewise growth to the global film industry as well.
