ALUMNI E-NEWS #8 • JUNE 2014
This is our eighth alumni e-newsletter and oh wow we are so glad it is finally summer. Also we think you look nice in those shoes. Go, USA! WELCOME TO THE CLUB Officially we have 33 more alumni this week than we did last week. Happy graduation, Class of 2014! We are delighted to welcome you to our alumni community and we look forward to keeping you connected to one another and to RSS for the rest of your lives. This is our monthly alumni e-newsletter. We hope you love it. AND ALSO THI Hey, everybody else. This is our new group of alumni and here’s where they are attending high school this fall. Be nice to them. And each other. And everybody. BRAVO TO THE CLASS OF 2010! Here is where our 2010 grads are going to college a couple of months from now. This is a spectacular list, FYI, but no one who knows this class is the least bit surprised by that. Explore the map to find out how many kids are going to Ivies and which one is heading across the pond and who might show you around New Orleans the next time you’re there and everything. Nice work, kiddos! DOLLAR DOLLAR BILLS Y’ALL Last school year, 14 alumni made a financial contribution to RSS. So far this school year, 31 alumni have made a contribution. We think that’s awesome, but we also think we can do better. And we would LOVE to add your name to our growing list of alumni donors. (It’s a lovely list, full
of smart and good-looking people.) Go here before June 30 to give a gift of ANY amount, and your name will be published in our 2013-2014 giving report along with our other donors. If you prefer to give in cash, send Mr. Palmer an email and he’ll let you know how to do that. WE ARE SUPER GOOD AT SCHOOL Mighty mighty Mazel Tov to Alex Barsky ‘04, who just graduated from Columbia University with a Masters in Social Work. Also Mazel Tov to Elana Roth ‘05, who has been accepted into journalism school at the University of Wisconsin, and Greg Chatzinoff ‘01, who will begin the MBA program at NYU’s Stern School of Business this fall, focusing on entertainment, media, and technology. We know there are more of you out there who have graduated or are gearing up to start further higher learning, so let us know and we will celebrate you, too. THIS IS HOW WE DO, JUNE EDITION If you went to RSS then chances are you have a deep appreciation for art and chances are your parental type figures have some actually pretty darn impressive work on the wall that you made when you were, like, seven. Here’s a video that shows why. HEY, MS. BLAIKIE (RSS ARTIST OF THE MONTH, TEACHER EDITION) We love that so many of our teachers are also artists, including Ms. Blaikie, whose work is on display at Paul Labrecque at 171 E. 65th Street through July 27th. You may also check out her beautiful paintings here.
WE ARE ABOUT TO REFERENCE KANYE AND KIM AND WE HAVE MIXED FEELINGS ABOUT THAT BUT WE’RE DOING IT ANYWAY Have you seen our Instagram lately? It’s so fun! We don’t have quite as many likes as Kim and Kanye’s wedding kiss, but we do have the cover of the 2014 yearbook, our recent grads, lots of alums, Mr. Greenwald, and a life lesson about unicorns (unicorns!!!). Join us there and on the RSS Alumni Facebook page.
That’s it for now. Let us know what you’re up to this summer, join our growing list of alumni supporters, and stay cool out there. Be good and we love you!
