WELCOME

It’s that time of year again. The time of year when everyone is dieting, complaining about the cold weather, breaking all their New Year’s promises to themselves and Facebook ruins that magical surprise of snow once again. But fear not, lovely people of Roehampton – hope is at hand. Fresh cannot claim to make the weather any warmer, or make celery taste like a Big Mac, but we can help to keep your spirits high and your New Year’s Resolution’s unblemished (at least for the first few weeks, anyway. No one actually keeps them for a whole year, do they?!). In this edition - the second edition that is written by our wonderful new team of writers - we bring you the top ten ways of keeping fit this year (p35), how to travel the world on a student budget (p1011) and how to beat those January blues by adding a little neon to your winter wardrobe (p21). I know, I know: we do spoil you!! So, it’s goodbye to 2012 and hello to 2013. 2013, we love you already.

Hey everyone! I hope you have all had a fantastic ‘fresh’ start to the New Year so far (apologies for the pun). The lovely team at Fresh headquarters have been very excited to publish their new content after the success of the Christmas edition. We’ve been discussing hobbits, musicals, Tallowah’s impressive sounds and even the possibility of one of our writers roller-skating in a hobbit outfit! It is our aim this month to make everyone’s January a little more cheerful. So, if you’re looking to splash out on a new wardrobe for the new season, the fashion team have done an amazing job spotting all of the latest and most stylish trends for 2013. CONCERNING HOBBITS There are many interesting facts that could be listed about the Lord of the Rings, be it books or films. We’ve heard a lot that Viggo Mortensen breaks a toe on screen in the third movie. Did you know that in the Fellowship, every hobbit extra had to wear a wig except for Peter Jackson’s son, who had perfect hair for a hobbit boy? Or that the scene where the Fellowship mourns Gandalf’s death was shot before he even arrived to the set for the first time? The list is fascinating and it goes on forever. I’m going to share my favourite Lord of the Rings fact. In the 1950s, not long after the publication of the trilogy, The Beatles boys started fantasising about making an adaptation themselves. The casting was a little problematic, as John Lennon instantly called dibs on the band’s favourite character, Gollum, but the roles were distributed as follows: Lennon got to play Gollum and Paul settled for Frodo, Ringo for Sam (quite generous, if you think about it. In normal circumstances, he probably would have gotten a villain role because, well, he’s the drummer) and George would have played Gandalf. The idea at the time was probably not as outrageous as it sounds to us now. Seeing as the boys had then already made ‘Help!’, ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ and ‘Yellow Submarine’, Apple Films was

keen to endorse it. Rumour has it that they even approached the legendary film director Stanley Kubrick, director of ‘A Clockwork Orange’ (you can guess what they got for an answer). The biggest obstacle in the way, however, was the writer himself. Either because of foreseeing the coming of one director to rule them all, either just by not being a huge fan of the Beatles music, J. R. R. Tolkien shot the project down. It is still an interesting idea to picture the boys jumping into something so big. Imagine for a moment that Gollum bursts into song after finally retrieving the ring from Frodo’s finger in the last epic struggle, maybe even doing a bit of twisting and shouting; or if they gave Frodo a solo on the tiresome way (“Suddenly I’m not half the man I used to be… there’s a shadow hanging over me…”). Picture George’s brown sideburns peeking out from under the grey fake beard! At the end, we all wonder if we would have wanted to see this version of our beloved story. At the cost of not having the Jackson trilogy, definitely not. But I most certainly would have paid my ticket to see these guys on the epic journey together. Especially because Frodo would have been a few inches taller than Gandalf the Grey himself. And who knows? Maybe they couldn’t have left out a group of fanatical teenage girls cheering for them from the side-lines as the boys reach Mount Doom, and then maybe now I could show everyone how cool it is that my mother is an extra in the Lord of the Rings. Anything that is advertised as “really cheap” or “too good to be true” is quite often a SCAM. You should never pay any money before you view a property. Also, never send money via a money transfer service (e.g. Western Union or Money Gram) as these are indications that it’s a SCAM. If you are unsure about anything to do with off-campus accommodation, contact Maxina Pattison on 020 8392 4451 or email accommodation@ roehampton.ac.uk. Alternatively, you can visit her in the Information Centre on a Tuesday or Thursday between 10am-4pm (no appointment needed).

LAURA GREENSLADE “Traveling and especially studying abroad, opens doors for you and presents opportunities that you may have never encountered if you remain hidden in the comfort of your campus for three full years. It opens your mind to new cultures, people and experiences in a way that could never have been achieved otherwise.” Cyrena, Study Abroad Student When you think about university, there is so much to consider. Where you will live, what social events you are going to this week, and how you are going to pay the bills. So it is easy to forget that university is one of the few times in your life when you will have the opportunity to take some life-changing risks and take advantage of some amazing opportunities. Cyrena, has just left Roehampton University after spending last semester as a study abroad student. Originally from the Middle East, Cyrena studies at Otterbein University in Ohio, USA; one of the many universities that is partnered to Roehampton as part of the study abroad programme. She says that studying abroad “was truly one of the best decisions I've made at university.” Many universities now take part in the study abroad programme, where they pair up with other institutions around the world and offer students the chance to spend one semester or one year of their university career studying abroad. The class credits that students take while they are studying abroad are transferred back so that you do not miss any academic time, and tuition fees are still paid to Roehampton meaning that the only costs you have are flights and any travel or living expenses that you choose. Roehampton is paired to universities in Europe, the USA and Australia. Applications for the

If studying abroad doesn’t sound appealing, then Camp America or another work abroad programme is something to consider. Lorna, who is 20 and a Primary Education student spent last summer in one of the Camp America camps in Atlanta, ‘Camp Barney’. She says, “Camp America was an unmissable experience. three main employment areas you can be taken on as a ‘Counsellor’, working with the children to ensure they enjoy all of the activities. An ‘Advanced Skills Counsellor’, specialising and running activities, so whether your hobby is horse-riding or water sports you can utilize your skill and earn money. Or if you are more interested in casual work, then every summer camp needs a whole support team of kitchen workers, housekeeping staff and office workers who are known as ‘Campower’. With camps and similar programmes all over the States, you can pick a place that appeals to you from the remote small towns in Georgia, the beach life of

feature California or the hustle of New York. It really depends on what you’re looking for. Lorna says, “I was in a small town, so I got to know a lot of the locals. Spending time with them and their families was amazing as I really got to experience their normal way of life from a nontouristy perspective.” Not only is Camp America an amazing life experience, it was also a great addition to Lorna’s CV, “As a primary education student it counts as an additional placement that I can add to my CV.” Other opportunities to travel abroad include: teaching as part of the TEFL programme and organisations such as Frontiers. If you’re more interested in the South East, then the Education Travel Centre organisation specialises in educational, volunteer and guided trips throughout Asia. With guided tours, community-based work programmes, sightseeing tours and volunteer work on offer, you have the opportunity to travel to Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Cambodia on a budget. Joslyn, 22, just booked her first volunteer programme in which she will travel to Thailand to teach English and basic hygiene to the people of the Thai Hill tribes. She says, “I never thought I would be able to afford a trip like this as a student, but there are so many travel grants and so much funding available that money worries should not make travelling an unachievable goal. I just can’t wait to finish my time as a student by travelling.” Of course, while some of us want to travel to find ourselves through charity work, others might just want to find an amazing beach on the other side of the world. Travelling with friends just because you can, can be one of the most rewarding, indulgent and amazing experiences ever. This is made possible for students through organisations like STA Travel, RealGap and BUNAC, who all have information, discounts and amazing deals on a student budget. So why travel as a student? As Lorna said, “When else can you take two or three months a year away from real life to travel the world?”

SPORT To feel the legacy of London 2012, we perhaps have to be the legacy and get stuck in.

It seems ages since we waved goodbye to the Olympic torch, but our memories of the games will live on as a joyous part of London's history. The Olympic and Paralympic games brought out a new feeling towards sport in this country, in which we saw our athletes as role models, heroes and great achievers. Contrast that with the general apathy towards the England football team, or perhaps even some of our other sportsmen and women, and it is clear that something changed last summer. Whether it was to motivate us into joining a club, or to invite us more readily to other sporting events, there was still the hope that the Olympics would have a positive

12 FRESH MAGAZINE

effect on us. Of course, the legacy of the games for our generation probably won't serve to inspire us into becoming professional athletes, but those of us who decided our hopes of becoming sportspeople were lost back in our youth would at least hope that the Olympics left a new legacy of appreciation for sport. However, the timing of the Olympics and Paralympics didn't lend itself to these hopes. With the economy struggling and prices for essentials going up, people are having to eliminate some of the more recreational activities in their life. Sport is in a battle to make itself a worthwhile pursuit for someone who may not have the money to spend big, so prices are a huge factor in people's response to the Olympics. There is little doubt that people are more willing to attend sporting events, or join sports clubs, but it will always be a mini-luxury that can be sacrificed if necessary. For attendance of sporting events, nothing will draw people in bigger numbers than football. There are fourteen league football clubs in London, and throughout the UK the Premier League alone sold thirteen million tickets in the 2011-12 season. However, for a student the possibility of attending Premier League football is almost completely out of bounds, bar the occasional cheaper game. For example, London's own Arsenal FC will charge prices upwards of ÂŁ62 for a match day ticket. Nevertheless, football fans can find solace in the lower leagues. AFC Wimbledon play their games just a couple of buses away from Roehampton University, but offer a special student price of ÂŁ9 a ticket. Though the performance is of a lower standard,

Iconic moment: Jessica Ennis, poster girl of the Olympics, wins the Women's Heptathalon

attending a lower league game can be an excellent way to fill the void for homesick football supporters. Rugby tickets seem to find their way towards the cheaper end of the scale. London Wasps offer discounts to students, meaning their tickets can cost as low as £15 (albeit the £70 third kit advertised on their website is scandalously overpriced). A ticket at Twickenham for the more prestigious Six Nations tournament in February will cost at least £40, but this is to be expected given that it is an international event. However, the likes of football and rugby were already well established before the Olympics. Given the iconic moments provided to British audiences by the likes of Mo Farah and Jessica Ennis, one would hope that athletics can boost its reputation off the back of the games. There are, in fact, a number of athletic events and championships being held in 2013, and prices are indeed manageable. The UK Championship in Sheffield will sell its cheapest tickets at just £5, while the London Grand Prix in July is somewhat steeper at £22. The studies on whether attendances at sporting events have gone up following the success of the Olympics have yet to be completed. However, there are already some findings being reported with regards to membership rates at sports clubs. A recent study by Sport and Recreation Alliance suggested that nine out of ten sports clubs had seen no increase in the number of disabled members, inferring that the Paralympics had not been as inspirational to those with disabilities as previously hoped. However, this report was slammed by the British Paralympic Association, who criticised

the notion of judging the effect of the games after such a short period of time. It is therefore inconclusive as to whether the games has had the effect of getting people involved in sports, but in the next few years we will begin to see what legacy the games left behind. Our generation will be key to this, and we at Roehampton University are in the privileged position of being able to participate in sports without great strain on our finances. A Sport Roehampton membership can cost as little as £60 for the whole year, and allows access to a massive variety of sporting activities (see page 35 for some examples). To feel the legacy of London 2012, we perhaps have to be the legacy and get stuck in.

ENGLAND'S 2014 HEROeS

GK Joe Hart Barring an incredible renaissance from Rob Green, or some miraculously quick maturing from the promising Jack Butland, Joe Hart looks a shoo-in for the number one spot.

GARETH VENTIN

RB Glen Johnson Maligned by many as unable to defend, the right-back-cum-right winger has stepped his game up this year, and will only be 29 come the summer of 2014.He has been a fixture in the England team recently, and I don’t expect that to change.

CB Ryan Shawcross He looked shaky against Sweden, but in the Premier League he is a rock at the back. Expect competition from the under-used Phil Jagielka and the injuryprone duo of Jones and Smalling.

CDM Jack Wilshere Quickly getting back to his best following a long injury lay off at Arsenal, Wilshere will be 22 when the tournament kicks off. There is plenty of pressure on the youngster’s shoulders, but his attitude thus far has been supreme. RW Theo Walcott Though he wants to play down the middle, his pace makes him far more suited to the wide role. A better final delivery means that he could be a real threat for England.

With no major football competitions this summer, thoughts are already turning to the World Cup next year in Rio de Janeiro. With a number of England’s supposed “Golden Generation” entering their twilight years, here are some of the names that we could be cheering on to an inevitably disappointing quarter final exit.

CB Gary Cahill The Chelsea defender will be 28 by the time Rio comes around, His pace makes him a handful for any striker and his timing in the tackle is impeccable, as well as the attacking threat he brings from set pieces.

LB Leighton Baines A top, top player who has proven himself consistently for Everton. Perhaps more importantly, an Englishman who can actually take a penalty.

CDM Steven Gerrard (c) Redeployed this season for Liverpool in a deeper role, anticipate Stevie G’s Hollywood passing to be a key feature of the Rio campaign as he will (presumably) lead the team to mediocrity. LW Ashley Young Having seemed to have kicked the diving habit following some unwanted press, the United winger can give even the best defenders a torrid time on his day, and can really cross a ball as well. Aaron Lennon and Daniel Sturridge could well put their names into the hat for this position.

CAM Wayne Rooney Gradually being deployed deeper for United, don’t be surprised to see Rooney making some surging runs from a bit further back than we’re used to seeing from the United talisman. Often a hit and miss for England, this may be one of his last tournaments. ST Andy Carroll Though injured at the moment, the big striker seems to have found a new lease of life under Big Sam. He may not score too many, but expect his knockdowns and presence to create a number of chances for those around him.

MAXINE TAYLOR The Bodyguard is a fabulous new musical showing at the Adelphi Theatre, based upon Lawrence Kasdan’s original screenplay for the 1992 romantic thriller starring Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston. The superb musical opened on the 5th of December 2012, twenty years after the release of the Oscar nominated film. I was lucky enough to see the show on New Year’s Eve, the theatre was full to bursting and the show set the exhilarating tone to my celebrations on entering 2013. Starring in the smash hit musical is the Tony and Grammy award winning Heather Headley making her West End stage debut as Rachel Marron; described by Henry Hitching of the Evening Standard as “mesmerising.” Heather is joined by Lloyd Owen as Frank Farmer who is praised as “wonderful” by Libby Purves of The Times. Personally I couldn’t agree more; I praise Lloyd Owen whose striking intensity echoes that of Kevin Costner and the upmost respect for Heather Hedley who belted out much loved and classic tunes with talent to match that of Whitney Houston herself. The iconic scenes of the movie echoed the same emotions and intensity in the show, utilising all the elements of sight, sound and staging to grab hold of the audience and draw them into the movie world on stage. The director of the musical, Thea Sharrock (The Sunshine Boys, Equus) saw through the potential limitations of a stage adaptation in regards to action scenes within the romantic thriller that the movie delivers

with such finesse. The action scenes in the show were brilliantly enhanced through a use of multi-media on stage that I have never seen done quite so fantastically before. An impressive and visually appealing creative idea was the use of film footage that matched that of the original movie but with the stage actors instead. This footage was displayed on layered transparent curtains over the actors on stage; creating the same atmosphere as that of the film. Quite simply the best stage production I have ever seen. A critically acclaimed masterpiece described by Baz Bamigboye of the Daily Mail as: “The runaway gold - plated musical hit of the season”. With ticket prices

ranging from £20 - £65, and potential student discount from certain ticket stores; there is simply no reason not to experience this stunning success. The show received a raucous standing ovation and personally I could have sat through the entire performance all over again. With the film’s success still holding strong for the last twenty years this show has the potential to do just the same. A modern classic that pulls on your heartstrings, yet has such energy throughout –It’s pure entertainment.

IZZY STOCKS

January is upon us, and the temptation of the seemingly never-ending sales is a fabulous reason to start updating your wardrobe for the coming season. Izzy Stocks will be guiding you through a wardrobe cleanse; that’s out with the old and in with the new!

Before you tackle your clothes, why not give your actual closet some TLC? Stick magazine cutouts of funky outfits to your wardrobe doors to guarantee style inspiration while you dress, or categorise your shelves with cute stickers. Labels help me to find exactly what I need, resulting (usually!), in no disregarded piles of clothes on the floor! The Spring/Summer ‘13 catwalks brought numerous trends to choose from, from classic pieces with a new twist to the odd wow-factor surprise. For outerwear, as we are still in the middle of winter, boxy shapes dominated every runway piece. Karl Lagerfeld played with volume on his signature Chanel jackets, creating curved emphasis on the shoulders (1). Biker jacket addicts will be pleased to know that voluminous styles of the bomber jacket will sashay towards warmer temperatures. Loewe’s leather bombers became springappropriate with their beautiful floral embossment. If you’re not a fan of the bomber, Burberry showed once again that the trench coat is timeless- how adorable does Romeo Beckham

look in a mini one for his first Burberry S/S ’13 campaign?!

Floral prints from past sunny days are a keeper; Prada and Holly Fulton emphasised that flower power print is definitely recyclable. Prada had somewhat of a love affair with daisies in their spring show, with the dainty flowers being stitched onto pretty much everything. Fulton’s flower of choice was a reoccurring three-dimensional rose in varying sorbet colours (2). As a romanticist, florals are a go-to in my wardrobe as they pretty up jeans and create an elegant, effeminate look for night. The show-stopping print for next season is anything graphic, whether this is quirky, modernist patterns á la Mary Katrantzou’s stamp and banknote print (3) or the checkerboard squares that descended down escalators at Louis Vuitton. Cast polka dots to one side, as bold stripes take the lead this spring, seen at Marc Jacobs and Michael Kors. Remember to keep accessories to a minimum while wearing print to avoid looking too busy! I am ridiculously excited for the cinema release of The Great Gatsby, and to build up to the hype I will be coveting gorgeous twenties

My favourite catwalk look was Chloé’s incredible lattice detail (5). FASHION KATE GRIFFITHS

JANUARY BLUES... and neons... and whites... and pastels... If you are to believe certain research, then you’ll know that for the year 2013, January the 21st has been named the most depressing day of the year. It’s not hard to see why either; Christmas trees that were once the magical focal point of your living room, now lie naked and dying on every street corner, you’re officially broke from the numerous parties over the festive period and - potentially the most depressing – you’ve stepped on the scales and almost passed out at the realisation that it was you that ate all the (mince) pies! Fear not though, I’m here to shine a neon light on this bleak month. Catwalks have been alive with all the latest trends for Spring/Summer 2013 and the colour pallet this year is more diverse than ever; literally anything goes! From vibrant neon’s at Oscar De La Renta and Henry Holland, to pastel colours favourited by Mulberry and Erdem. There is also a massive trend for white going on at

the moment with major fashion labels opening their shows with this signature summer colour. Most people, myself included, would probably shy away from dressing head to toe in this tricky colour, but if you buy one white item this Spring, it has to be a crisp white collared shirt. Mrs Beckham pioneered this look in her ultra-tailored collection and it looks just as good on its own as it does layered under a coloured jumper. Patterns also featured highly on the catwalks from London to Milan and stripes are set to be the go-to pattern

of choice. As we all know, these can be a girl’s best friend, or worst nightmare so go careful! If you’re feeling brave, try clashing a striped top with a flower patterned skirt for a unique look that’s sure to get you in our Fresh Style Spotted pages! With all these gorgeous trends to look forward to, I’m sure we can all endure the next couple of months and I for one will be waiting with baited breath to see how the high street adapts these catwalk looks for those of us who haven’t got Vikki B on speed dial.

Did you expect to have your latest album 'Strong and Sturdy' appearing on iTunes and Spotify at this point?

That was definitely the aim, to get our music out there digitally but we went through many trials and tribulations to get to this stage. There are some cool reviews on iTunes which pick up on the things we hoped for.

Are you a sunny side up sorta band (I don't mean eggs)? How do you resolve 'musical differences'? We try to be, though most of the songs are in minor keys with some dark tones. It’s like there’s positive vibe but a deep message. With our troubles everyone gets over it after a couple of jams, you know, boys will be boys and it just kinda goes away. don’t remember anyone properly shouting, we’re all pretty chilled out guys. We haven’t got a van so the only thing we would argue over is how we’re getting to gigs.

Where have you toured as a band?

We tend to just gig around, although a tour is our aim this year. We’ve got a festival spot lined up in Yarmouth this year.

We’ve gone for more of a ska/ punk sound, so it’s a combination of styles. James was originally an alternative punk drummer, so we’ve tried to bring more of that influence into our music. It feels like we’ve properly found our sound, like we’ve taken another step down the road.

Dreams and goals for 2013...

We’re working on our second album now that ‘Strong and Sturdy’ is out there, I do wish we could re-record the tracks because they were done two years ago. It’s hard to say what we hope for, opportunities will appear and sometimes you get a lucky break. Advice for people on maintaining their New Year's resolutions? Pick an easy one. Be strong and pick something you’ve got your heart set on. If you’re not passionate about it in the first place and need a new year to do it, you’re probably never gonna do it.

Most prized piece of kit?

Without any element of the band the whole thing wouldn’t work. The trumpets and trombones are something which interests the public because it makes us distinct, people don’t expect these instruments in a band of our age group.

How to rescue a bad day?

Watch Frasier, then smoke and listen to some reggae or Daniel Powter ‘Had A Bad Day’, it makes it all better. Coming to the studio and rehearsing, that always makes you feel better as a band.

HONEY COCAINE HASSAN BEYAZ

Female rapper Honey Cocaine has been making tidal waves online since she appeared on the scene just a few years ago. The 20 year-old from Toronto, Canada, is signed to Young Money artist Tyga’s Last Kings label. From the moment she released her debut mixtape F*** Yo Feelings in 2011, the Internet has been ablaze with praise for the Cambodian native’s fiery lyrics and straight hardcore rapping. Honey Cocaine was first discovered when Tyga found her cover of his song “Rack City”, which she posted on YouTube. She gained recognition with her feature on Tyga’s song “Heisman”, with many rap fans praising her lyrics and her ability to rap just as well as Tyga. Honey Cocaine does not follow the mould that female rap commonly follows, of females aggressively dictating the ways they would like to be pleased sexually, a trend started

28 roehamptonstudent.com

by Lil Kim and Foxy Brown in the mid 1990s. In fact, Honey Cocaine actively declares that she has no time at all for a man and that she makes her own money, making her completely independent. Honey would rather “get the money and the penis after” as she so elegantly puts it in her flaw-free track Bout It, from the F*** Yo Feelings mixtape. Honey, whose real name is Sochitta Sal, embodies a strong and confident woman that doesn’t need a male to make it in the world and is an ideal role model for women. She is a feminist, showing that women can make their own stacks of money independently, and is someone that the rap industry desperately needs, as the rap industry is consistently plagued by women who sell their bodies to men and audiences. Honey is nothing like this, and continuously chooses to inspire women all around the world with her raps about female dominance and control.

Honey Cocaine’s new mixtape, Thug Love, is due for release in February. Her Twitter account is @QueenHoneyC. You can listen to her new singles on her SoundCloud account, queenhoneyc.

In the first track Dear Luv from her second mixtape 90′s Gold, a mixtape that made my ‘Best of 2012’ list in the December issue of Fresh, Honey talks of the struggles of growing up with an aggressively violent father and not having parents who were wealthy enough to buy the things that her teenage self wanted. Her brother was in and out of jail, selling drugs and being in trouble with the law. Frighteningly, she was also shot at after a concert she played at in March 2012, which she addresses in her track Who Shot Me. Her background is similar to most other female rappers that have emerged in the past, but it is the fact that she addresses these social issues in her songs that make her the “Young Goddess” (her name for herself) to her 425,000 Twitter followers, who she affectionately calls her “goldies”. She is an inspiration to millions across the

world that have come from the same kind of background, showing that with hard work and determination, it is possible to build up an empire and save yourself, no matter what your background is.

Dare I mention those two words on everyone’s lips this term ... ‘Summer Ball’, (guess I just did!) well of course work is taking place to find a suitable act so keep following Fresh Media for more info on who may take to our stage this year! VP WELFARE & COMMUNITY Hope you all had a lovely break over the Christmas & are now settling back into the routine of student life. Those who are in their 2nd & 3rd year might be considering cutting back on working hours just to dedicate more time to your studies. In doing so, there is the fear of struggling to keep up with bill & rent, food etc. therefore if you do happen to find yourself at bit tight for cash, yet still swamped with coursework & deadlines, I urge you to pop into the Student Funding department(located in the information centre on Digby) to discuss applying for an Access to Learning Fund. It’s non-repayable to students who can demonstrate that their outgoings outweigh their income, despite making an effort to balance it out. Lastly, ‘January Blues’ are quite common throughout student populations, especially when even more work appears to piling on! If you find yourself feeling anxious or even slightly a bit fed up, don’t be afraid to approach your personal Take care, love Fitzy x roehamptonstudent.com 31

Cycling! Rather like walking, cycling can cut out the stress of public transport whilst keeping you fit. If you wish to cycle in a more organised fashion, the University offers recreational cycling sessions. For more info contact mary.robinson@ roehampton.ac.uk.

What Is Top Top Fives?

Why Top Five Lists?

Top Top Fives (find us at www. toptopfives.com) is a place for sharing your opinion on everything via the age-old medium of top five lists. Let the world know your “Top Five Movies of All Time” or perhaps your “Top Five Festival Bands” – in fact anything that can be ordered into a top five list. And that leaves pretty much everything. It is a place to share your discerning opinion on these and much much more. The people need to know!

Sure, shopping lists can be a useful way of remembering what to buy down the supermarket, and of course to-do lists help us remember what to do once we’ve done that thing we were going to do, but lists really come alive when they are used to put things in order of greatness. “The Best Goals of All Time”, “The Greatest Albums by The Beatles”, these are the lists that stir memories and stimulate great conversation. We really like these lists. A list of only five requires consideration and thought. Weed out the gems from the ordinary. Share your taste!

What Are 'Top Top Lists'? When we find two or more lists on the same category we merge them together into ‘Top Top Lists’. These show what most people think are the “Top Five Beatles Albums” or the “Top Five World Cup Teams”. We can’t wait to see what will be added.

How Can I Get Started with Top Top Fives? We want everyone to build their own compilation of Top five lists and then to share them with everyone else. Head over to www.toptopfives.com to start creating your top five lists and sharing with friends. It really is that simple. Find us at www.toptopfives.com Or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ welovetoptopfives We really hope you like Top Top Fives. And do let us know if you have any feedback, we’d love to hear from you. Get in touch at tom@toptopfives.com
