Art Education in Hong Kong, RTHK, Jun 22 Curtural critic, HKEJ, July 1 Art & Event, Modern Home, Vol.385, July Art & Culture, MUSE Magazine, Jun 10 Art Cafe, Wenweipo, Aug 15 Whenever we see a banner of councilor being scratched or damaged, we may have snigger on it because of the “funny additive” added on the images. The scars on faces, cracks on teeth and the missing eyes are what we can commonly observe from the victimized image or banners.

Someone will just treat this phenomenon as a foolish prank and passes away. I think, however, it is a quite interesting subject matter by reading the scratches.

They, mostly strangers, create a narration onto the banner. I believe every scratch on banner have their own stories, which are related to both the one who scratched and the one who being scratched.

What I am going to do is not investigating the intention and behavior of those who create the narration. On the contrary, I try to project the stories behind each scratch by repairing them. Afterwards audience with different political and educational background may have advanced interpretation about the scratches based on my repairing.

I collect and repair the destroyed images to expose and to introspect the implied stories to the audience.

Artist Statement : 細看每一條被破壞的痕跡，我們都能閱讀到超越一張圖像所呈現的故事， 這些故事來自破壞者及被破壞者。透過為他們修補影像，我向觀眾展示及 反思這些故事。

Observing every scratch in images found in the streets, we can find some inside stories behind the visual images. I collect and repair the destroyed images to expose and to introspect the implied stories to the audience.

03 video information

Video_1 videos are all in ‘mov’ format Video_1 contains 7 videos of the spots I collected the banners and 2 videos showing the process of the repairing by hand and by computer.

‘Spots’ video lasts about 2:30 mins of each spots.

‘Repairing’ Video lasts 1:06, for hand repairing, and 1:29, for computer repairing.

Two screens show two different videos.

On Left screen, there would be 7 videos looping the different spots which I went to collect the banners.

On Right screen, there would be the video showing the process of repairing by looping two videos (handrepairing and computer-repairing) One screen only shows one video.

The screen only presents one all-in-one video showing some remarkable scene of the whole process in collecting and repairing the banners

The orders of the banners are varied. There is a small foam board (a-j) showing the original face of the banner next to every repaired banners (1-10). The video setting locates on the left of the banners.
