SPEAKER GUIDE _____________________________________________ Welcome Jen! We are so excited to have you visit Western Oregon University! In this packet, we have tried to include everything you might need in order for your stay to be comfortable and your time on campus enjoyable. ALL THE DETAILS: EVERYTHING YOU NEED FOR NSW

THE IMPORTANT STUFF _____________________________________________ WHO WILL I PRESENT TO? Answer: All incoming new students (traditional freshmen), Peer Mentors (Peer Health Educators), Residence Assistants, and possibly the Men’s Basketball team and a few non-trad students. HOW MANY OF THEM ARE THERE? Answer: Roughly 900-1000 students. WHY ME? Answer: Because you are awesome! WHEN IS IT? The session is Wednesday, September 25th from 3-5pm PST. WHAT IS THIS SESSION FOR? Every year during our orientation week (SundaySunday before the first week of classes) our school hosts a series of mandatory speakers and events for new incoming students. This year, we decided to switch it up a bit! In addition to your presentation, we will be using this opportunity for students to learn about stalking via a vignette created by our WOU Campus Against Sexual Assault grant folks, put a face to resource offices on campus (more about that later) and learn how they can be Green Dots at WOU.

PRESENTATION ITINERARY _____________________________________________ 3:00-3:05 Presentation Begins, students arrive with their halls Welcome and Introduction of session and announcements by PLUS Team (orientation leaders) 3:05-3:10 Introduction of WOU CASA stalking vignette And the WOU CASA grant program, Counseling and support staff identified (Dr. Mary Ellen Dellostritto, Tina Fuchs) 3:10-3:18 Vignette showing 3:18-3:25 Vignette follow-up, discussion about stalking and resources (Tina Fuchs, Charisse Jolliff) 3:25-3:35 Resource “showcase” with Jaime Silva (Director, Student Health & Counseling), Women’s Center, Jay Carey (Director, Campus Public Safety), Dr. Gary Dukes (Vice President for Student Affairs) 3:35-3:40 Carli introduces WOU Green Dot, Jen! 3:40-4:55 Keynote (that’s you!) *Wrap up and about 10-15 minutes of questions in gym after



TIMELINE OF GD AT WOU _____________________________________________ FEB 2011 Carli & Amy Hammermeister Jordan (HE/PE Faculty) Attend GD training with Jen & Dorothy at OSU. MAY 2011 Amy hosts first “tester” training with 30 EA’s, students get so excited they immediately charter a GD student club via ASWOU and begin holding meetings. SEPTEMBER 2011 WOU Student Health & Counseling Center (Carli) begins hosting first overview speeches for RA’s, Peer Mentors (peer health educators) and Resident Hall Association. Club meetings are averaging 30 members a week. NOVEMBER 2011 First full training with EA’s is held with 16 students. Carli and Amy fall in love with GD all over again! 2012 Between 11/11-12/12, 200 students receive the full bystander training from Carli & Amy. Nearly 1,000 hear the overview speech from Carli in their classrooms, club meetings, hall programs and more. WOU Baseball, Men’s Lacrosse and Women’s Rugby are first athletic teams to become fully GD trained! 2013 WOU Green Dot adds 5 new trainers (YAY!), brings Jen to campus, begins second phase of evaluation and EA identification, adopts Green Dot class (upper division level elective credit class), receives nearly $18,000 in funding from OVAW grant for the next three years, and maybe more!
