CITYOFROHNERTPARK HOLIDAYCLOSURE
H ow arrows popping up a safety and traffic flow at intersections. A flashing yellow arrow means you can turn in the direction of the arrow, but you must first yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians. This is different from a green arrow, which gives you the right-of-way to turn. Always slow down when you see a flashing yellow arrow and be prepared to stop if necessary.
Here's how these signals usually work. First, you'll see a solid green arrow, meaning you may turn. Then, the signal changes to a solid yellow arrow, indicating the light is about to change. Next, you'll see the red arrow, meaning you will need to stop. Finally, you’ll see the flashing yellow arrow, allowing you to turn after yielding to cars and pedestrians. Sometimes, you will come up to a solid red arrow at an intersection. Be sure to wait for the arrow to change to a flashing yellow arrow, meaning you can turn after yielding to pedestrians and other vehicles. Remember, the flashing yellow arrow is a reminder to proceed with caution and always yield to those already in the intersection. Don’t be surprised if you see a flashing yellow arrow while traffic on your side of the road has a red light.
Flashing yellow arrows are becoming increasingly common because they offer several advantages. They help to reduce delays and improve traffic flow, especially during off-peak hours. They also give drivers more flexibility to make turns when it's safe. By understanding how these signals work and following the rules, you can contribute to safer roads for everyone.
HOLIDAY TIPS FROM PUBLIC SAFETY
The holiday season is a time for celebration, family gatherings, and giving. However, it’s also a period when safety concerns can arise, from increased travel to home security risks. To help ensure everyone in our community has a safe and joyous holiday, the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety offers these essential tips
1. Safe Driving During the Holidays
Holiday travel often means busier roads and unpredictable weather conditions. Here are key reminders:
Obey Speed Limits and Drive Defensively: Slow down, stay alert, and keep a safe distance from other vehicles.
Avoid Driving Under the Influence: Plan ahead by designating a sober driver or using rideshare services
Stay Focused: Distracted driving is dangerous. Put down your phone and focus th d
2. Home Security Tips
The holiday season, unfortunately, sees a rise in home burglaries and package thefts. Here’s how to keep your home secure:
Lock Doors and Windows: Always ensure your home is locked, even when you ’ re inside. Use deadbolts and security systems if you have them.
Package Safety: Consider having packages delivered to secure locations, such as a workplace or a neighbor’s home if you ’ re not around.
Use Timers for Lights: Make your home look occupied by setting timers for indoor and outdoor lights, especially if you ’ re traveling.
3. Shopping Safety
Shopping malls and stores can be crowded and hectic during the holidays. Stay vigilant with these tips:
Park Smart: Always park in well-lit areas and lock your vehicle. Don’t leave valuables in plain sight.
Keep an Eye on Your Belongings: Carry purses close to your body and avoid carrying large amounts of cash. Use credit or debit cards when possible.
Be Mindful of Scams: Watch out for suspicious emails, texts, or calls asking for personal information. Only shop from reputable websites. If you are interested in donating, donate locally or use Charitynavigator.org to verify the authenticity of an organization.
4. Fire Safety
Holiday decorations can bring cheer but also increase fire risk. To prevent fires:
Maintain Your Christmas Tree: If you have a live tree, water it regularly to keep it from drying out. Keep it away from heat sources like fireplaces or heaters.
Inspect Lights and Decorations: Check for frayed wires or broken bulbs before decorating. Never overload electrical outlets.
Monitor Candles: If using candles, keep them away from flammable materials and never leave them unattended.
The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety wishes everyone a safe and happy holiday season. By following these tips, you can protect yourself, your family, and your neighbors, ensuring the holidays are filled with joy and peace. Stay safe, Rohnert Park!
