With three days at sea following your departure, you can take the time to get to know Arcadia as she cruises the North Atlantic Ocean. Exclusively for adults, Arcadia combines the chic with the classic, offering a relaxing ambience in stylish surroundings that everyone will feel comfortable in. Arcadia’s signature features, such as her exterior glassfronted lifts and expansive art collection, featuring no less than 3,000 works of art, create a sophisticated air. Foodies will be spoilt for choice in the two-tier main restaurant, or for a treat Atul Kochhar’s spice sensation Sindhu will set your taste buds alight. With over six places to dine, a luxurious salon and spa (which includes a hydrotherapy pool and a thermal suite), dazzling entertainment with a three-tier

theatre and boutique cinema plus over nine places to socialise, you’re bound to find something to appeal! Your first port of call is the capital of Portugal’s Madeira archipelago, Funchal. Known as the ‘Floating Garden of the Atlantic’, Funchal boasts breathtaking landscapes, dramatic ravines and lush woodland. Whilst here, you can visit the Monte Palace Tropical Gardens or perhaps hop on the Botanical Garden Cable Car for an unforgettable trip to the colourful Jardim Botânico. Six days at sea follow your adventure in Funchal, and you will find that the sun gets warmer and warmer the more you cruise – so be sure to spend time up on deck soaking it up! Here, take a trip to

Castries Market, the perfect place to buy hand-crafted souvenirs to take home! From destinations entrenched in calming Caribbean charm, to a destination rich in vibrant energy. Roseau, Dominica’s compact capital is a hustling, bustling and diverse place – the streets are lined with historic buildings, and a blend of French, Spanish and English architecture is evident in the buildings there. Best discovered on foot, Roseau offers plenty for the keen sightseer – the French Quarter, the suburbs of Newtown, Citronier and Castle Comfort are all worth a visit! Pretty St. John’s is next on your itinerary and the friendly locals will welcome you with wide smiles and open arms. Here, there is time to relax and watch the yachts sailing in and out of the harbour or enjoy the vibrant fish and fruit markets in the town centre. If you’ve ever dreamt of the Caribbean chances are it looked a lot like your next destination, St. Kitts. Its perfect mixture of deserted beaches, sleepy villages, lush rainforest greenery and mini mountain range with dormant volcano could perfectly represent paradise. This unspoilt paradise is true Caribbean, exactly as you’d dreamed it. An intriguing mix of cultures is represented in your next port of call. Divided between two countries, St. Maarten is harmoniously shared by the French and the Dutch. This gives the island two distinctive flavours to discover, with the quiet sophisticated French north, and lively, vibrant Dutch south. A shopper’s paradise awaits with plenty of duty-free shops to explore or wander along Great Bay Boardwalk and enjoy the crystal blue waters, as well as a range of restaurants with cuisine to suit all tastes. After more time at sea, you will arrive in your final destination, the capital of São Miguel, Ponta Delgada. Ponta Delgada proudly displays a mix of the modern and traditional, creating an ambience that is quite pleasing to its visitors. Aside from its plentiful shopping district, Ponta Delgada is home to the natural hot springs in Furnas, beautiful volcanic landscapes at the Lagoa do Fogo and breathtaking scenery of the blue seas at Sete Cidades – so be sure to explore whilst here! As you depart Ponta Delgada, homeward bound, you will undoubtedly feel sombre as your unforgettable cruise comes to an end. But think yourself lucky, you’ve been to the Caribbean! Not only this, but you’ve been to the Caribbean and you haven’t had to forgo any of your British home comforts – that’s what P&O Cruises are all about. distinctive ring-shaped volcanic caldera. A portion of the caldera wall has collapsed and created a navigable opening into the flooded interior. The natural harbour inside the island includes Whalers Bay, home to an abandoned whaling station known as Hektor and a derelict British base. We should be able to visit the relics at Whalers Bay if the weather behaves. During our six days in the Antarctic we should also get to Neko Harbour (more penguins...this time Gentoo) and Wilhelmina Bay, which is surrounded by mountains and high glacier walls. And, of course, we shall be looking out for icebergs wherever we are. This is going to be a real adventure for both Jim and me. In the past we’ve always headed for the sunshine. Basically we don’t do cold. But who could resist the chance to visit such a unique and unspoiled wilderness? We shall be there when this icy continent becomes the breeding ground for millions of penguins, whales and seals which spend the rest of the year at sea. The statistics about this place are in themselves staggering: the krill on which most of the wildlife thrives is so abundant in the Southern Ocean that it represents the largest biomass of one species on earth:

Andreas Kalvig Anderson/Hurtigruten

By TV presenter, journalist and Ambassador for Reader Offers Ltd Jennie Bond “Antarctica”... I keep saying it to myself in disbelief. My husband and I are going to one of the most remote places on earth: somewhere we never expected to see. One of the more tedious aspects of growing older is that life tends to become rather repetitive. We have travelled widely – both as a couple and as journalists. I’ve been to many countries several times and, often, even those I haven’t visited before simply remind me of somewhere else. “Oh, doesn’t it look just like parts of the Highlands?” I said to Jim on a recent trip to South Africa, as we drove through the hills of the Cape Peninsula. He thinks I’m mad. But Antarctica. Now that really is going to be something different. The prospect of visiting a continent that remains virtually untouched by humans and is home to wildlife that can withstand some of the most hostile conditions on the planet, fills me with awe and excitement. I’m a big fan of ocean cruising, but working with the team at Reader Offers Ltd has opened up all sorts of new opportunities – from river cruises to this: our very first expedition cruise. We’re travelling with the specialists, Hurtigruten: one of the leaders in explorer voyages across the globe. We’re leaving in late November next year, flying to Buenos Aires for a two night stay before taking an internal flight to the very tip of Argentina. There we shall board MS Midnatsol - built to navigate expedition voyages of all types. Mind you, I’m glad to say it doesn’t sound as if it skimps on luxury! If we find the freezing weather chills our old bones too much, we shall admire our surroundings from the comfort of the two-storey panorama lounge. There’s also a sun deck and Jacuzzi, a fitness room

and sauna, plus bars, a café, a library, two restaurants – one of which is à la carte - a shop and an amphitheatre. The itinerary is brimming with opportunities to see the amazing landscapes, seascapes and wildlife that the coldest reaches of the southern hemisphere brings. We shall be on board for eleven nights, and during the voyage south across the notorious Drake Passage we shall be entertained and educated by a series of lectures from the expedition team. This is a continent very much dedicated to peace, science and tourism. Strict environmental guidelines and rules therefore protect and preserve a vulnerable environment that has evolved through millennia without human interference. We want to leave nothing but footprints in the snow and take nothing but pictures! We shall be there in the Antarctic summer, so the days will be the longest I‘ve ever experienced. I can’t quite get my head around the idea of virtually 24 hours of daylight! For a start, when shall we have sundowners? I’m looking forward to sharing the novelty of it all with our

fellow travellers. There will be a variety of expeditions every day – from zodiac shore landings to kayaking, snowshoeing and hiking. It’ll be fun to compare notes every evening when we all head back to the ship. Even the most sophisticated technology can’t override some of the climatic challenges that are thrown at you in this part of the world, and we are told to expect the unexpected as we go along the planned route. We’re hoping, though, to see the South Shetland Islands: home to chinstrap penguins, Antarctic terns, Kelp gulls, Snowy sheathbills and several species of seals. If we’re lucky, we may also see elephant seals – huge creatures which I found rather comical when I once came across them on a remote beach during a trip with Prince Charles. I discovered that they have terribly bad breath and fart a lot. I’ve also been told to be prepared to witness the brutalities of nature: leopard seals feeding on the penguins, or killer whales playing the death game with seals to show their calves how to hunt. One of the highlights of the South Shetlands is Deception Island; a

including humans. The walls of ice which reach up to the polar plateau measure some 2,000 metres high. I’m told that many people become very humbled by their experience of being in Antarctica. And we are fully expecting to be overwhelmed by the majesty of the landscape. They say that if you can describe Antarctica, then you’ve probably never been there. Well, we are going, and when we get back, I shall do my very best to put the whole experience into words. I am prepared, though, to fail. Don’t miss your chance to sail to Antarctica with Jennie by joining her on the voyage featured below - packaged exclusively by the experts at Reader Offers Ltd. You could be sharing a zodiac tour alongside the former Royal Correspondent, hear tales of her time with the Royals as you enjoy evening drinks or attend a Q&A session hosted by Jennie – only available to Reader Offers Ltd guests. There’s never been a better time to discover the white continent!. For more information, call Reader Offers Ltd free on 0800 251 1145 or visit www.rolcruise.co.uk.

ANTARCTICA HIGHLIGHTS Half Moon Island, South Shetland Islands The serrated and crevassed cliffs are home to a colony of Chinstrap penguins as well as Antarctic terns, Kelp gulls, Snowy sheathbills, Wilson’s storm petrels, and several species of seals are regular visitors. Half Moon presents many photographic opportunities with its wildlife posed against scenic backgrounds and Antarctic highlights. The Teniente Camara Station and view point is a popular place to look for whales in the bay facing towards the Bransfield Strait. Yankee Harbour, South Shetland Islands The main attraction for many visitors is Yankee’s terraced Gentoo penguin colony with an

estimated 4,000 breeding pairs. Yankee Harbour offers views across the McFarlane Strait to Livingston Island and out into the Bransfield Strait, a common feeding area for whales. Neko Harbour The bay is surrounded by the mountains and alpine glaciers of the peninsula and its wildlife makes it a perfect arena for beautiful impressions. Neko Harbour is attractively located in the innermost part of the bay and takes its name from a whaler which was anchored here in the early 1900s. Neko is one of the very few places on the Antarctic Peninsula where one can come ashore on the Antarctic mainland. On land, there is a colony of Gentoo penguins.

Wilhelmina Bay The mountains and high glacier walls of the Antarctic Peninsula around Wilhelmina Bay convey a mighty impression of ice and water. Everything from calving glacier fronts to floating ice, the magnificent contrasts of the interplay of the elements.

Other highlights include riding the funicular for incredible panoramic views, taking a walk through Terrasse Dufferin – a beautiful terrace built in 1879 – or visiting the majestic Château Frontenac. If two days of sightseeing don’t appeal, then there are plenty of boutiques, quirky restaurants and bars and fabulous fall landscapes to soak up. With its fascinating nature and bustling

There are few destinations in the world that are more mystical, culturally diverse or rich in heritage, than India. Clockwise from above: Amber Fort, Rajasthan; Taj Mahal, Agra; Humayun’s Tomb, Delhi

As you awake to bustling Delhi, you will be delighted to spend a full day touring Old & New Delhi. In Old Delhi discover the Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques in the world. From here walk through the Old Delhi Bazaar passing the silversmiths’ market and, continuing down Chandni Chowk, a bustling bazaar. When the British chose Delhi as their capital in 1911, they appointed two architects, Sir Edwin Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker, to plan and build a new city to rival the fabled cities of the Mughals. New Delhi was thus built in true colonial style with tree-lined avenues, colonial bungalows, the Parliament House, the War Memorial Arch and the Viceregal Palace, now the official residence of the President of India. During your tour, you will drive past India Gate and the President’s Palace and visit the tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun, and the preMughal monument Qutb Minar. The following day, you will have the opportunity to tour Agra Fort. The earliest reference to Agra can be found in the epic Mahabharata where it is referred to as the Agravana. It was from the 16th century onwards, however, that Agra rose to prominence as the capital of the Mughals when the city was beautified with gardens, waterfalls, bathhouses and canals. Following your tour, you will have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to visit the Taj Mahal at sunset. One of the New Seven

Wonders of the World, it is ubiquitously recognised as one of the world’s greatest landmarks, and finest examples of Mughal architecture. Tonight, you will be able to witness a traditional Kalakriti cultural dance performance before spending the night at the Courtyard by Marriott Agra hotel. Next on your exclusive tour, you will drive from Agra to Jaipur with a stop for lunch and a visit to Fatehpur Sikri where you can view spectacular red sandstone forts, palaces and mosques. Later, arrive in Jaipur. Within the city, the main focus is the huge palace complex, home to the Maharaja, which includes the Hawa Mahal ‘Palace of the Winds’ façade, formal gardens, a fascinating museum of the Maharajas’ lavish possessions and Sawai Jai Singh’s Jantar Mantar observatory. Enjoy a two night stay at the Fairmont Hotel. As the final day of your tour dawns, you will embark on a tour of Amber Fort. Amber was the capital of the Kachhawa Rajputs from 1037 until Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh founded Jaipur in 1727, but the majestic fort-palace was not begun until about 1600. The building was built by ‘Raja Shri Maan Singh JI Saheb’ in the 16th century and later added to by successive Rajput rulers; however, the architecture displays many Mughal influences in addition to the traditional Rajput designs and iconic Hindu elements. Whilst visiting this UNESCO World Heritage Site you will be

able to explore the intricate chambers and hallways, the maze of passages, quartet of beautiful courtyards and savour the wonderful views of the Jal Mahal water palace below. Arguably the highlight is the intricately stunning glass detailing of the Sheesh Mahal hall. Succeeding your Cox & Kings tour, you will fly from Jaipur to Mumbai for an overnight hotel stay at the Oberoi Hotel, before embarking the ultra-luxurious Silver Shadow for your nine night all-inclusive voyage to Dubai. Your first port of call is to the coastal city of Porbandar, birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi and Sudama. Following your stop here, you will cruise onwards to Muscat, Oman where you will enjoy an overnight stay. Often known as the ‘walled city’, due to its forts and royal palaces, Muscat wows with its impressive architecture. From the harbour, you’ll be able to see the Sultan’s Palace, with its blue and gold pillars. The Grand Mosque is truly spectacular, even from the exterior and the Mutrah Souq is worth a visit for antique shops selling a mixture of Indian and Omani relics. Next, you will trace the coast of Oman until you reach Fujairah for the day, and onwards to the capital of the UAE, Abu Dhabi. The discovery of oil transformed Abu Dhabi from a fishing village into a thriving modern metropolis that has not forgotten its past. Futuristic skyscrapers

and luxury hotels offer sharp contrast to museums, mosques, and bazaars – this unique capital is unlike any other destination in the world and it is one that will provide you with a pleasant assault to the senses. Following a stop in Doha, you will arrive in your final port of call – Dubai – where you will disembark and transfer to the Oberoi Hotel for a two night stay, including breakfast. Here, explore one of the most exciting cities on Earth. The modern skyline, beautiful beaches and yearround sunshine make Dubai a glamorous destination. Why not visit the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, take a dip in the azure-coloured waters on Jumeirah Beach or enjoy tax free shopping at one of the mega malls. From India’s most historical destinations and culture unlike you’ve ever seen before, to sprawling, modern metropolis’ and once-in-a-lifetime experiences, this exclusive voyage from Reader Offers Ltd is simply unmissable. For where else can you delve into real India, whilst cruising in the lap of luxury?

Yellow trams wind their way through

narrow tree-lined streets in historic Lisbon, whilst Gothic cathedrals, majestic monasteries and museums are all part of the colourful cityscape. You’ll find the real wonders as you explore the backstreets – leafy plazas, quaint cafés and lively jazz music await; while the port celebrates the city’s maritime heritage.

Four consecutive maiden ports feature next on your itinerary – Rabaul, Tokyo, Kagoshima and Beijing. All of these astounding destinations have their own highlights to offer, but of particular interest is Japan’s sprawling capital, Tokyo. If you are not dazzled by the neon lights of modern shopping centres, then you will find solace and peace in a number of gardens. Rich in history, Tokyo is a modern city built on old patterns and ancient Japan is still apparent in the local handicrafts, lantern-lit yakitori (grilled chicken) stands and historic temples.

Cochin and Mumbai are next on your world cruise itinerary where Indian influences are aplenty. You will then arrive in Salalah, which will give you a taste of Zanzibar in the heart of Arabian desert land with its colourful history and rich cultural heritage. Thousands of limestone karsts and islets are sprinkled across Ha Long Bay. As you arrive here, choose to spend a relaxing day out on a sailing junk, and stop to visit one of the caves adorned in stalagmites and stalactites. Or journey to the capital city of Hanoi, with its French colonial architecture and the lively, fascinating old quarter of 36 streets.

British author T.S. Eliot once noted that it is ‘the journey, not the destination, that matters’ – however, our friend Mr Eliot clearly had not experienced the world of cruising. Affording both the luxury of an unforgettable journey and remarkable destinations to boot, cruising is the ultimate means of world travel, and enables you to be part of a journey across the seas to the far corner of our globe. The exclusive buy one get one free offer below showcases a sensational 120 night world cruise promotion from Cruise & Maritime Voyages on board the newest addition to their fleet and flagship, Columbus.

More east Asian delights await as the next destination on your itinerary offers culture, history and beauty in abundance. Shanghai is China’s economic powerhouse and is one of Asia’s most exciting cities. Be sure to visit the beautiful 400-year-old Yu Garden, the famous Jade Buddah Temple and the colonial Bund along the Huangpu River. Then, you will arrive in Hong Kong – a truly unforgettable destination offering a unique perspective of a modern metropolis mixed with traditional Chinese culture dating back 5,000 years. Be sure to take your camera along for your adventures in Asia as you won’t want to miss a thing!
