INTRODUCTION
Rollapaluza racing is a thrilling yet safe way to get people hooked on cycling As a gateway into cycling, Rollapaluza offers children and adults with little or no riding ability the chance to participate in a thrilling, yet safe activity on quality equipment. A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE Participants ride head-to-head on stationary bicycles in short, timed races, to a sound track of high-tempo rock and pop music. The noise and excitement levels soar as our expert MCs urge on the racers - and encourage the crowd to do the same - resulting in a uniquely memorable experience for all involved. PROMOTING CYCLING Our over-riding aim is to promote cycling as a fun activity by creating safe, well organised events that participants and spectators alike will enjoy.
PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT Rollapaluza provides two crew to coach riders, operate rigs, take photos and log results. Our staff brief the participants about the equipment and the activity before they start racing. THIRTY SIX RIDERS AN HOUR Due to the fast pace of our activity, we can run at a rate of about 36 participants an hour. We take each rider’s name and record their time on our PC - and on a time card that we hand to each participant to keep as a memento of their roller racing experience. POST-EVENT INFO Shortly after the event, all results and photos are uploaded to our website www.rollapaluza.com, or an event-specific website (this is an opt out option). Clients can also opt for a password protected gallery.
We are also experienced taking consented information from participants such as email, address, postcode, age etc... to help you with follow up marketing and stakeholder engagement. FITNESS AND FUN FOR ALL ABILITIES In short, Rollapaluza is the ideal ‘plug and play’ activity for community events, street festivals and fairs. It offers an exciting way to engage with the public and to show them how exciting cycling can be - while promoting health, fitness and sustainable transport. HOW WE ROLL
Choose from two different, fun-packed Rollapaluza formats to suit your needs 1. HAVE A GO Riders are given a brief coaching session as their feet are strapped into the pedals of the stationary track bikes. The starter then counts down the seconds till they start pedalling: three, two, one... Go! We photograph the competitors throughout the event, and hand each participant a timecard at the end of their race. All race data is recorded on our computer, and during the event the information is updated live for easy viewing of each rider’s time, average speed, cadence (pedal revolutions per minute). Shortly after each event we can deliver results and photos for your use. We also upload them to our website for the participants to view. (this is an opt out option).
2. COMPETITION A competition event features a qualification round based on the Have a Go format, followed by a series of head-to-head finals. Men and women, boys and girls race independently, creating four separate competitions. After the qualification stage, the top four, eight, sixteen or thirty-two riders (depending on the size of the initial field) are taken through to the finals. The riders are called up in pairs and ride head-tohead in knockout races - timings no longer matter, you simply have to beat your rivals to go through to the next round! It all culminates in a breathtaking race to the finish to see who will be Rollapaluza champion of the day.
+SPECIAL FEATURES For both formats branding and prizes are optional extras. “We have used Rollapaluza for community events and they always attract positive attention and encourage people to ride bikes even if they haven’t been on one for many years... It has always been well worth using Rollapaluza and we would highly recommend them to others.” Roger Stocker Travel Awareness Officer London Borough of Southwark
RACE-READY
Our unique equipment boasts custom track bikes and digital timing Our rigs, manufactured to our own exacting design, feature top-of-the-range Condor track bikes - as ridden by some of the UK’s top professional riders. We have replaced the front wheel with a support that connects the bike directly to the roller rig; this removes the need to balance, allowing the participant to pedal safely at high cadence. The riders’ progress is tracked on a giant dial, viewable from up to 50 metres away indoors or out. Our dual digital timers display the length of time it has taken for the riders to cover race distance. The first rider to complete the distance sets off flashing beacons, so spectators can see who has won the moment the race has finished. Our large stable of bikes includes children’s size bikes that allow us to offer the Rollapaluza experience to riders as young as seven.
THE FOUR RIGS The ‘Two Up’ rig is the most popular option and allows head-to-head racing for two riders at a time. Using our ’Have a Go’ format we can run up to 18 races an hour. The ‘Four Up’ rig allows head-to-head racing for up to four riders at a time. Using our ‘Have a Go’ format we can run up to 15 races an hour (60 riders). This larger rig offers additional format options including team racing, two against two and four-person team time trials. The ‘MTB’ rig is a modified Two Up rig that simulates very rough and bumpy terrain. The bikes are Surly 1x1 single speed mountain bikes... this option is not for the faint hearted! The ‘BMX’ rig showcases our adult and kid suitable top of the range Haro BMX bikes. Racing out of the saddle over a shorter distance this is all about high speed acceleration.
SAFETY FIRST The only thing we place above the enjoyment of our clients is their health and safety. Our equipment is built to very high standards and is regularly checked and tested to make sure it is in top condition. We can provide DBS(CRB) checked staff and each team includes a qualified First Aider. All our events are insured with our comprehensive public liability policy. If you or your employees have any medical conditions we advise that you contact your GP prior to taking part in this activity. We strive to achieve complete client satisfaction with every aspect of our events. We pride ourselves on being flexible and helpful.
