New Recycling skips for Bluewater and Toomulla tips Townsville City Council has added new skip bins to the Toomulla and Bluewater tips to allow local residents to recycle items such as white goods, metals, electronic waste and florescent tubes. The new bins are part of Council’s commitment to make recycling those items quicker and easier for residents living in the Northern Suburbs. Division 1 Councillor Margie Ryder said the new skip bins will benefit local residents because they no longer have to travel to dumps at Stuart or Hervey Range to recycle white goods or electronic waste. “The addition of these new services at the Toomulla and Bluewater tips will save residents time and money”, Cr Ryder said. “Residents used to have to travel about 100km for a round trip to Stuart or Hervey Range dump just to get rid of an old fridge or washing machine. “The new skip bins will be much more convenient for locals and help keep our city clean and tidy”. Fridges and air conditioners will be degassed prior to the metals being collected and recycled. The fluorescent light tubes are crushed and all parts of the tube recycled. Thursday Cardies are still being held at 9am in the mornings but are located at different homes in the community. Please call 47707855, if you want to know where they will be held each week. Thank you to Reece for the repairs to the RaDCA marquee and thank you to Ian for organising the work to be done. A gentle reminder, if you have any loaned equipment eg: wheelie walkers, wheel chairs, over the toilet chairs, high backed chair and shower chairs from the Community Centre, can you please return them when you are finished using them. If it looks like you will need the equipment for long term eg: more than 3 months, can we please ask you to look at purchasing the equipment for yourself or for your loved one. This equipment can be supplied by gaining a referral through your medical services eg: your Physio or Doctor. As it stands today we don’t have much equipment left to provide to anyone – it is all on loan. In the Rag, there is a media release from the Townsville City Council regarding the decision to place a skip bin to collect unwanted white goods, technology equipment and fluro light bulbs at the Toomulla and Bluewater Transfer stations. This decision has been made by TCC Waste Management after consultation with interested members of the Public and RaDCA’s Management Committee after concerns were raised at the RaDCA AGM regarding the time, distance and cost of taking these items to the Hervey’s Range tip from the Northern Beaches. Thank you to the Mayor, Cr Jenny Hill and Cr Margie Ryder for listening to our suggestions and acting. Last call for signatures on the partition: Dredging of the Rollingstone Creek mouth. These partitions will be collected very soon. Congratulations to the Rollingstone Seniors for a very successful Biggest Morning Tea. You had a wonderful response from the Community with excellent numbers and an excellent fundraising result. You all deserve to give yourselves a pat on the back. The Rollingstone Community Association and The RTC would like to welcome Mark on board as a new team member. Mark is sitting in the RTC at a new front desk and will be looking after all who walks through the door and answering the phone. Please don’t be shy, come on by and introduce yourselves to Mark.

Until next time

keep yourselves safe (you are the only ones who can)………….Chris P6

Our Year 3 and 5 students participated in their respective NAPLAN tests last week and embraced the challenge admirably. The students were fortunate to have an extra breakfast at school on each of the NAPLAN testing days. I would like to thank the P&C for organising this and to Pace Farming for supplying the delicious pineapples and bananas. The community support is much appreciated. Our Prep open mornings are planned for the following dates from 9am to 11am – Monday, November 5th, Tuesday, November 13th and Wednesday, November 21st. We invite all students enrolling in Prep in 2019 to join us in the classroom. On Monday 26th November we will host an information evening for the parents to come along and meet the teachers and principal and ask any questions they may have regarding schooling. Enrolment packs are available now from the office or can be collected on any of the above dates. We are wanting to remind all parents and caregivers to come along to our regular TAG group on a Tuesday morning between 9am and 11am. This Transition Action Group prepares children for structured learning time, interaction with other children and they get to know how the school runs. The group has a short break where they share healthy food with others. Keith Poulter Principal

John Grady passed away during May. John and his family live in Toomulla and have contributed much to both our communities over many years. John was a happy, gregarious, caring, loving, and philanthropic character and his presence will be sorely missed. Vale, John. Vale Mervyn Thomas formally of Mutarnee and later of Balgal Beach. Mervyn lost his battle with illness during May. Bernice Ivett, Margie Humphrey, Vicki Fischer, David Birse have all had a rough month, so we wish them well and a rapid recovery. There are probably others, but that’s all of which we’ve been made aware……...“Our thoughts are with you, enjoy the snow Sue”

We have employed an admin assistant to help Chrissie and to give her some breathing space. We warmly welcome Mark, we look forward to his company, and hope he enjoys his time with us. The verandah of the big Hall has been resurfaced to make it safer for all using our facility. We were fortunate enough to receive some funding from Council for both Australia Day 2019 and this year’s TNB Pioneers’ Luncheon. Thanks, TCC. Our Management Committee was also successful in having Council agree to provide a new recycling skip bin at the Toomulla (and Bluewater) tips. We wrote Council regarding Waste Management in/on behalf of the whole of the Northern Beaches and with both Margie Ryder’s and the Mayor’s assistance, there was a successful outcome. The Media Release is published elsewhere in this issue of the “Rag”. And, thanks again, TCC. Also, we’re applying for funding for new footy goal posts for Pace Park and a new photo copier for the production of the “Rag”. Fingers crossed.............. Congratulations are duly deserved by our local Garden Group who helped stage a most successful Water Wise Gardening Expo at the very end of April. It was all arranged at reasonably short notice and Kerrie Cochrane and her team worked tirelessly to bring it all to fruition – and they did a remarkable job. Goodonya, gang. Otherwise, it seems that all is going pretty well at our Centre. Fingers crossed (AGAIN) that it stays that way........... I wonder if it is true that technology can save us. Certainly, it isn’t making us more civilised – and actually, I think the opposite is true. Live well, love much, laugh often....................... “Sancho Panza”.

So winter is over? Three days of cold weather, how good is that! Let’s hope that we keep the beautiful cool weather that we are receiving at the moment. Not to cold & not to hot….That’s why we live where we live isn’t it? New Recycling skips for Bluewater and Toomulla Tips. Townsville City Council has added new skip bins to the Toomulla and Bluewater tips to allow local residents to recycle items such as white goods, metals, electronic waste and fluorescent tubes. The new bins are part of Councils’ commitment to make recycling those items quicker and easier for residents living in the Northern Suburbs. Division 1 Councilor Margie Ryder said; the new skip bins will benefit local residents because they no longer have to travel to dumps at Stuart or Hervey Range to recycle white goods or electronic waste. Thank you to Sue & Chris from the Rollingstone Community Association for initiating the request for these bins to be placed in the community. The Toomulla Dump is open from 7.30am - 4.30pm on Saturdays. Congratulations to the winners in the Mothers Day Raffle. 1st Prize went to Cheryl Clegg, 2nd Prize: Debbie Wellington 3rd Prize: Marian Cooper & 4th Prize: Shirley Rouse. Hope you all enjoyed your wonderful prizes. Thank you for your support. Toomulla Beach Fishing Club is now on FaceBook. Thanks Chris for setting this up for Mick. Please go on and like the page and stay updated for all the fishing club news. Congratulations to young Jayden Leo Wason on your recent fine fish catch. Jayden went out fishing with his Nan & Pop in his new Rin Tin Tinny just out the front of Toomulla and caught a 2.3kg, 54cm Sweetlip. He caught this on a rod & reel combo that he won at a fishing comp in Balgal last year. He was so excited with his catch! He then went on to catch a nice size Jack in the creek. Unfortunately Poppy’s catch was a little bit smaller and poor Nan caught nothing, just kept getting snagged! The Peacock numbers have increased!! We now have 12 wandering around the community. WOW……….where are they all coming from? They certainly do some miles around the place during the day. I have been doing some reading about the peacock and basically there are two species of flying birds that belongs to the pheasant family and is known as peafowl. The male is identified as a peacock whereas females are called peahen; juveniles (chicks) are recognised as peachicks. The peacock is the national bird of India. The males are the colourful ones. The colour of the wings on the peacock are actually black but it gives a blue shine. Amazing! Peacocks are the best when it comes to the fight against snakes. Apparently they don’t allow snakes to approach or even enter into their territory. The prime part of their diet includes plants, seeds, small insects, reptiles, amphibians and seed heads. Males will do all they can to get the attention of females for mating. A male may display his feathers and prance around to get the female attracted to him. Once mating has occurred the female will find materials to create a nest. The males will go looking for other females that they can also mate with. It can take up to 28 days for the eggs to hatch. The young will grow very quickly and within a few days they can walk around on their own. It will take them a few months though to be able to fly. The average life span of a peacock is twenty years!! Oh No….Every 28 Days another peacock/s!! Those males are very frisky. Toomulla has lost one of our dearest long time resident & friend who was so well known in the community. Sadly we have lost John Grady after falling ill recently. Our thoughts are with Mrs. Grady, Bruce, Leigh & families. Such a beautiful family. John will be sadly missed by those who new him. Please feel free to email me (schwarzee1959@gmail.com) with any news, photos, questions or information that you would like to see placed in the Toomulla Newsletter. Alternatively you can write it out and put it in the Toomulla Post Box which is next to the community notice board. Happy Birthday to all those celebrating in June and there is a few of us!........Cheers……….Rhonda.

OP SHOP NEWS Have a quick read about what the Op Shop has been up to lately…….We have received a donation of really nice children’s and baby clothing. So mums….come on down and check out all the baby and children clothing that we now have in our Op Shop. Similarly, we often make donations to our local Wildlife Carers for their charges. Recently a donation of materials was given to Gaye L, to help make the lives of her pinkies warmer and more comfortable. Our Wildlife Carers do such a wonderful job and sometimes in circumstances that test the metal of human (and animal) endurance. Keep up the good work our own homegrown Wildlife Carers.

Fisherman’s Landing Fishing & Social Club News Hello and welcome. I feel I should give you all the answer to the quiz last month about the stinger net due to the extremely large number of people who have contacted me begging for the correct answer. The question was who forgot to turn off the booster pump and lock the electrical box for the stinger net two days in a row? The answer of course was...Dickie. His flimsy excuse for his lapses in concentration do not wash either; distracting scantily clad young ladies in the immediate vicinity indeed! The Club’s Family Fun Weekend Away to Cardwell was held last weekend (25 – 27 May) and a full report will be given next month. However, I am sure we all had a great time. Club shirts are available in either white or light blue and look very smart. Ladies, when ordering, please specify a lady’s shirt as apparently these come in a different shape and cut. See Treasurer Jeanette Pratt to place your order. Also available at a bargain price are Club Drink Coolers (Stubby Coolers). Our thanks to Gavin and Kim Love who organized the coolers on the Club’s behalf. What other Club Merchandise do you require? Bar Mats, hats, pens or coffee cups to name a few. See President Graham to discuss the matter so he can put your idea to the committee. From all reports the Monthly BBQ held on Friday 27 April went well with many members attending. Chef Robert said that with the number of meals he now does at the BBQs he will soon need a full-time assistant. Thanks to all involved with the setting up, salads, cooking, clean-up etc. It does not all happen by magic. Congratulations to the winners of the Club Monthly Fishing Competition for March 2018 who were, Senior: Dan Dale, Junior: Tim Biffin and Mystery: Bruce Woolard. The Balgal Beach Market on Saturday 5th May was again well attended by stall holders and it was pleasing to see the steady stream of people browsing for that “must have item”. Welcome back Rebecca from BnB Beauty and Body and welcome Sandy Davey, Reiki Practitioner. If either one of these two ladies cannot get your body feeling like new then you have a huge problem so give them a go next month. We should also soon have styling by Annie for all ladies, gents and kids’ hair cuts once her broken foot has mended enough for Ann to stand unaided. So now we have all the bases covered for a great morning out in a relaxed atmosphere where you can begin with a great coffee from Mon, breakfast from the Club’s team of international chefs then relax with a haircut and a massage before getting down to some serious shopping. Next Market Day is Saturday 2nd June. Thanks again to all the Club Members who contribute each month to help run the markets from Mon who is there bright and early to open the grounds to young Amy Pratt who sells the raffle each month. On Wednesday 23 May a contingent from our Club attended the Biggest Morning Tea organized by the Rollingstone Seniors Group. A good time was had by all who attended and a donation was made to the organizers on behalf of our Club toward their worthy cause of raising funds for cancer research which was very much appreciated. Don’t forget the Kids Classic Fishing Competition being

organized for Sunday 15 July. All children are invited to participate not just Club members so spread the word as we want as many kids as possible to attend. A free sausage sizzle will be held at the presentation of some great prizes. Remember though, the Club organizers are not unpaid baby-sitters or a child-minding service so at least one parent or other responsible adult must be present and with the children during the competition. Of interest, we have heard that young 7 year old Jayden Wason who won a fishing rod combo at our January 2017 Kids Classic put it to very good use recently when he won a prize in a Toomulla competition catching a nice 2.3kg, 54 cm Sweetlip. Grandma Rhonda Schwartz said the rod was very bent but held up beautifully, the fish put up a great fight but in the end Jayden and his rod won. Congratulations Jayden, it seems we have a budding champion on our hands. On the sick list this month we have Vicki Fischer who recently underwent surgery on both knees and is now receiving physio (ouch!). From all reports caring husband Geoff is looking after her extremely well sort of treatment from Geoff way into the future when fully recovered and mobile again. Well done Geoff. Dickie’s Fishing Report. G”day once again folks. This month has sped by very quickly what with ANZAC Day, Labour Day then Mother’s Day. l so much so that Vicki said she is looking forward to this Day all coming close together. Combined with the reasonable weather, this has allowed quite a few boaties to venture out. The reports have been sporadic with some good catches reported while others report disappointing results. Taylors Beach inlet, Cattle and Olera Creeks have produced some excellent crabbing and Grunter catches with Scrubby and Rollingstone Creeks just average however, most boaties and shore based fishing went home with a reasonable feed including myself due to a very kind gentleman donating a cooked crab which went down very well. The inner shoals and reefs have been producing good catches of Grunter and Sweetlip and the odd Coral Trout. The Doggie Mackerel have started to arrive taking floating Pilchards and Garfish, also silver spoons on the trawl. There is not a lot of news from the islands but there have been a couple of reports of a lot of sharks in the Rattlesnake and Herald Islands area taking caught fish on the way to the surface. Easy pickings for these guys. There have been numerous sightings of one of the local Crocs between Hencamp and Rollingstone Creeks and with the cooler weather they will probably be sunning themselves on the sandy beach between the two systems. Keep your children back from the river banks, these animals are really quick in catching a meal. Remember the Whaling season will be upon us very soon so check up on the boating rules regarding whale watching etc. There have also been a few reports of logs floating just below the surface so night boaties be careful remembering what happened at Magnetic Island just recently. Well, that is all for this month so safe boating and tight lines. Remember to put in a Trip Sheet with either Ingham or Townsville Coast Guard and you can also leave your out of date flares or EPIRBS at The Landing for safe disposal. Regards, Dickie P20

Dickie has given us a timely reminder about the dangers of Crocs in our waterways. We should all be vigilant not only for ourselves but at this time of the influx of southern and foreign visitors we need to remind them of the dangers near the water. From past experiences most of them will thank you for the warning, however, some will scoff and/or abuse you but if a tragedy does occur you can feel warm and fuzzy because you did warn them. Regrettably, I have to report that The Landing, our unofficial Club House, was broken into again during April causing considerable damage. This time the low-life thieves cut through the steel roller shutters upstairs and also to the store-room below. Along with the large amount of alcohol stolen was our Club’s new stereo/speaker system. Police on Palm Island have recovered the stereo system but we believe it has been damaged but we will not know until their enquiries are complete and the item returned. I implore you all to report any after-hours activity you see around The Landing, these unmentionable scums have to be stopped. Surprisingly, at this latest break-in, the thieves were noticed by a nearby camper who thought it was just a few youngsters “mucking about” and didn’t bother to notify anyone. Remember, when you go out to drop in a line know the rules, fish responsibly and respect others. Do use Australian prawns for bait (yes, I know the imported stuff is cheaper), not the imported prawns that could add some nasties like white spot to our prawning industry. Also, always please, safe boating. See you at the Club BBQ on Friday 29 June and at the markets. Final words of wisdom from the wisdom Guru “Never hold in a f..t while peeing because we all know that sometimes with rain we get thunder” Until next month, Ninger.

Can everyone keep their can ring tops off the aluminium cans please. There will be a tin in the Community Hall for collection. The ring tops go towards the making of new Wheelchairs

Balgal Beach Boating & Leisure Club News G.Day all, We certainly celebrated MOTHERS DAY at our last BBQ. It was a great night, all the Mums deserve credit for doing such a good job all year round and it is an honour to show them how much we love and appreciate them. The food is always so good ‘cause we have our share of good cooks. Thanks to the bbq cooks and ladies who provided such moreish sweets. They were so good. I was very disappointed with the members who rushed up for sweets before the announcement:….. ‘’SWEETS ARE SERVED’’. They showed no manners or consideration at all. Poor President Faye had a MOTHERS DAY CAKE to be cut by the winning Mum. Rhonda Muller won the Mums door prize, a lovely gerbera, and was to cut the cake and a speech be given by our president. This was not possible due to the crowd at the sweets table. MANNERS PLEASE in future. Sorry Faye you work so hard for our club. Thank you, you are a treasure. We had a TRIVIA NIGHT with all the questions about mothers. It was very good fun. Thanks to Merle Dickenson for organizing the night. TOP JOB Fish of the month went to Ken Dickenson with a 61cm Grunter….Congratulations Ken. The Lound’s Fresh Seafood raffle went to Bernice Ivett. Good on you…….Lound’s Seafood is tops. Our next night is a CURRY NIGHT, it will be yummy. SO COME ALONG AND ENJOY. Visitors are always welcome, dinner costs $10 each and children under 12 are free. Members are always free. So come along we will make you welcome…...Stay safe and happy Kindest regards from all the Committee.

Paluma in the Clouds - Les Hyland Community Hall Work on the extension to the Hall continues and as mentioned last month whilst the work is in progress the decision has been made to postpone the opening to the public of our Tuesday History mornings. It seems likely that this will continue well into the month of June. Solstice Dance One of the most popular events of our calendar is the Bush Dance held each year on the Saturday closest to the Winter Solstice. This year it is on Saturday June 30th and will be in the Community Hall commencing at 19.30. Entry is $10 for Adults, $5 for Children or $25 for a family. As always this is organised by Wattle’n Gum and if you require further information the contact is Daphne on 4773 3695 but you can of course just turn up on the night. Needless to say the bar will be open for the duration. This is always a great fun night. Paluma Markets The next Market day in Paluma Hall will be on Sunday 1st July from 09.00 to 13.00hrs, the day after the Bush Dance. Come up for the day and enjoy the cool Paluma ambience and browse the stalls or have a snack from the Sausage Sizzle. We are always looking for new stall holders. Please contact Lynn Hyland on 4773 7675 or, better, by email <lhyland@optusnet.com.au>. There is only a minimal cost for a table and all are in the Hall. Speed Limits At this time of year we always have an increase in traffic as people come to enjoy the cool rainforest environment. The speed limit on the Range Road is 40 kph from about 400 meters beyond the bottom gate to and through the village. Please have patience with slow vehicles - usually from inter-state - on the range section. However excessive speed through the village itself is of concern as there are no footpaths and there is a large number of pedestrians at this time including school groups from the two Environmental Education Centres. Please drive carefully and within the limits at all times for their, and your own, safety. Adventure Centre Following completion of ‘The High Ropes Course’ there have been Open Days on May 20 and June 3rd but the Grand Opening is on Saturday June 23rd from 11.00 hrs. There will be a free barbeque and Half-Price afternoon sessions. Booking must be made with Outer Limits <outerlimitsadventure.com.au> or phone 0421 484 211 by June 19th.

R.S.L.NEWS

Firstly a big thank you to the Rolly Rag team, in particular Barbara D, for their great coverage of ANZAC Day in the May news. I was very impressed and so were many others. I forwarded it to some of our members who live in town and interstate and got some great feedback. Thanks to Kristie from The Pharmacy for the cover photos as well. A thank you to Paul and Lindsay G for taking the certificate to the RAAF for SQNLDR Jamielee Fletchett, as she did not come to the club after the second service and Paul was going into the RAAF base. Heading towards the middle of the year and our next commemorative day will be Vietnam Veterans’ Day on Saturday, 18th August. Rollingstone RSL will be sponsoring a golf competition, “Vietnam Veterans Day” on the 11th August at Mystic Sands Golf Club and we hope all of the golfers enjoy the day. Speaking of the golf club, we have decided to sponsor a hole and have the RSL name on the number one tee. We will need to verify continued sponsorship at a QGM, but hopefully our members will see the value in promoting the RSL as a part of our local community, as well as a state wide organisation. We will be holding a QGM in the near future and hopefully as many members as possible can attend. I don’t have an actual date just yet, but probably early July. This will be decided at our next Board meeting. Members will receive postal or email notification of the date. We are still looking for ideas in relation to a special Remembrance Day, as the culmination of the Centenary of ANZACs commemorations. If you have any ideas please forward to a committee member or Citizens Auxiliary member, which should be up and running in the very near future. We will probably have an update of the Keith Norton presentation from Ewan at our next QGM. I know that at our AGM it was nearing completion and I believe there will be a special presentation in town and we will look at having some of our members present for that special day. Further news on that as the time comes closer. Please remember to let us know if you know of an RSL member who requires assistance in the home, garden or with appointments, as we have increased our Welfare Budget in 2018 to cater for the aging of our members. It is also pleasing to note that we have a few new younger members and we hope that if they are well enough they may be able to assist in the future running of the Rollingstone RSL. It had to happen, and many were pleased when “Vampire Lady” Kris won the Goose Club Jackpot on the 11th May. We call her that but only because she takes the blood at the Doctors on Wednesdays. She is a lovely lady and said she just had a few extra bills so was relieved to win the $560 jackpot. She buzzes around the bar on a Friday night and helps out when special events are on. Good on you Kris! We are now back to $120 at this stage, but the weeks fly by and we hope it continues to grow for a little while. Friday nights have been a little quiet but the patrons are wonderful and continue to support us. Unfortunately we couldn’t have dinner last Friday night at the club, but the comments from those who did were very complimentary. Apparently Shelley’s scallops with a garlic cream sauce are delicious, and I can vouch for the rib steaks. The very hard to please Mick enjoys the steak when we dine there and he enjoyed the take-away fish and chips last week. Meals are also served on Wednesdays, with $15 specials being very good value. It is lovely not to have to cook and no dishes to do. Well, had better finish off as I’m not meant to be a food critic in this column. Hope to see you at the club, even if just for a drink and a chance to win a meat tray. Take Care……….Cheers, Rhonda.

ROLLINGSTONE STATE EMERGENCY SERVICE Rollingstone SES welcomes 3 new members to our volunteer family; we look forward to sharing ideas and building on existing skills. Since January 2018, Rollingstone SES members have committed over 227 hours in the areas of: Operational Response, Training Community, Maintenance and Group Administration.

Education,

Equipment

Recently we visited Mt Spec SES for Area Specific Awareness Training. This type of training builds stronger partnerships within communities and enables members to build on existing skills and networks. We are looking forward to more joint training opportunities with our neighbouring units and groups. Anzac Day Dawn Service was amazing, as it is each year. As a volunteer working and reflecting; your smiles and appreciation are heartwarming. Members of Rollingstone SES have been assisting the Emergency Management Officer within Townsville City Council in the preparation and presentation of a Disaster Preparedness program. This program works to support the curriculum on Weather and Natural Disasters, and also to local community groups in their preparations towards being Disaster Ready. Our members are looking forward to building on this partnership and more. If you are interested in assistance in your Disaster Preparations please contact the Emergency Management Officer on 07 4727 9650, or call in to the Rollingstone SES HQ for further assistance. We have also been asked to participate in a Virtual Reality Scene Assessment Trial. This proposed new style of training has many potential benefits in the area of safety to our members and crews, and we are excited to be able to participate in testing the effectiveness of this tool. As always; your SES Group is continuing to maintain and improve on skills to support the community in times of an emergent event…...Until next time ………..Stay Safe

PLAYGROUP With the end of term 2 fast approaching, activities such as messy play, library visits and with the parents help, the educator is planning next terms program. Term 3, we are planning some fantastic activities. It is also with sad news that I, Kristina will not be here next term as the playgroup educator. Keep an eye out on the North of Townsville Community Hub facebook page or email playgroup@notch.org.au for more information on the program.

Cost for Playgroup is $3 per child with a maximum of $6 per family for two or more children. There is also an annual fee of $20 for insurance. P28 Contact 47516511 for more information.

Can you believe it we are half way through the year already – and dare I say it half way to Christmas. So June marks the end of our Financial Year so I trust everyone is organised and ready to complete the year end financials and tax returns – not my favourite job let me tell you – but regardless it is what must be done! So what a Month May was – I am now a year older – the proud old age of 50! I know, I know I’m just a baby chicken really and life has now begun! But you know in life there is plenty of room to take stock of Life Experiences which can make you BITTER or BETTER! Choice is yours so let’s review and reflect. This week I’ve been reminded about some major of my life experiences and journey’s and trust me they haven’t all been fun. Over the course of the past month I’ve had the opportunity to support some people - whom I would never have had the ability to support unless I’d been through a similar journey or experience myself – see life experiences or setbacks whilst they totally may suck at the times. You can choose to be bitter or better from the experience. I was thinking this week you know with all I’ve been through personally and some of it is just best described as kah-kah and trust me I’ve made a lot of mistakes to help it along. I came to the realisation that I would do it all again if it was to give me the empathy and understanding needed to help another person – so essentially what I’m saying is if going through all that crap can help someone else then I’d do it all again and I believe this attitude towards our life experiences is a choice of being better - rather than being bitter! Also this week today actually marks 12 months since my professional career was turned on its head and WOW so much has happened - I’ve learnt so much - I’ve grown so much – but it hasn’t all been peaches and cream!! LOL no! no! no! But had I not had that experience as well I wouldn’t be here today writing this article. I’d still be in my cushy comfy job and would never have launched into the businesses I have. Nor become an Entrepreneur – so today I’m celebrating being an ENTREPERNEUR!! and I love it, meeting people globally and locally is the highlight of every day and every day is different. Once again I had a choice to be Bitter or Better! We all have these same choices and no doubt you too have your stories! But anyway I decided to be better and roll with change and make the most of situations. My motto Love what you Do ~ Do what you Love #BE BETTER You know if you’re an entrepreneur in the local area I’d love to connect with other as very possibly there will be ways which we can support each other, and this is a part of what making connection is all about. You know I love CONNECTIONS – so much so we have a lovely group of ladies and new ladies come each time we meet. For June Connections will meet Tuesday 9am Mystic Sands Golf Club on June 5th June 19th and July 3rd. (essentially every fortnight) We’d love you to join us - open to all ladies in the local area. For details Contact Jen 0447 444 482 and join the group: http://bit.ly/ConnectionsRealWomen PS. LOOKING FOR OLD MAGAZINES - eg: Women’s Weekly, Women’s Day, Cosmo, Gardening, Travel etc…any sort of magazines really – if anyone has any they’d like to donate please let me know…...Thanks Heaps……...Jen

Rollingstone & District Seniors Hello once again, had some lovely weather changes, makes one remember why we live up in Nth Qld. What’s been happening…... The garden expo was a resounding success for Rollingstone district, congratulations to all those who brought it together, well done. We will have had the Biggest Morning Tea for Cancer by the time this comes out and let’s hope it’s a resounding success also. I know there is a lot of hard work, haggling, begging, pleading and headaches that have gone into it so it better be good. In saying that though it is you, the community and friends who make or break it and from the past records everyone has always highly supported this cause. These days it is hands up who does not know someone who has or had this disease. I first heard of it when I was just in high school and my mate lost her younger sister to it, I still remember that so vividly. Since then I have lost quite a few as I know many others out here have also. Ok enough maudlin, what’s next. The Seniors have a few things coming up: PCYC 29th May. Leaving here 8.30am. Will take the bus if enough passengers. June 22nd. Mini Golf in Townsville, includes lunch if required. July 18th Wulguru over 55,s. possible bus again if enough people. July 24th Tues 10 pin bowling. Whew that has sorted out a few months. Also do not forget that Gwen has organized the evening on Magnetic Is to see the show with dinner, Abba. Contact Gwen if interested. There was a lovely poem from Clara’s goodbye. I would like to share it. When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in gloom filled room, why cry for a soul set free. Miss me a little but not too long, and not with your head bowed low, remember the love that once we shared, miss me but let me go. For this is a journey we all must take and each must go alone. It’s all part of the masters plan, a step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick of heart, go to the friends we know. Bear your sorrow in good deeds, miss me but let me go. I don’t know why that poem grabbed me but it did and I hope you found solace in it also…. Had a vote at the Saturday bingo as to continuing with the hoy and the vote was for the hoy so we hope that people still come along. The hoy really makes your brain work. We have bingo the first half and hoy the second. It is a fun afternoon with the cuppa break in between so a friendly, enjoyable outing and even better if you win. What do they say, it is not the winning that counts but the way you play the game. Nah….not in this instant, it’s all about winning, winning, winning. Hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day. Ok time to finish up, hope this finds everyone happy, smiling and glad to be alive... P.S. Caught the Rolly Rag in time to add the write-up on the Biggest Morning Tea…. Well, what a morning………. I would like to give the biggest thank you to all the committee members of the Rollingstone and District Seniors, YAY!!!!! you surpassed your goal. In saying that we must also thank the great generous folk who gave SO generously, it was the most marvellous, entertaining morning and was so lovely to see faces from out of district. We would like to thank everyone who donated to the event. We would like to thank Radca for the generous use of their premises, greatly appreciated. We had approximately 170 people. The money raised this year and still with more to count is $3750. THANK YOU to: Everyone who came and shared a great day with us and to all our Volunteers that worked tirelessly all day. Our Councillers: Past and Present; Sue Blom, Margie Ryder and Nick Dametto. Entertainers: Dennis Drew (our local Tom Jones) and Ben Hobson (Townsville 83), Steve Wynne (our local Auctioneer), Batman and Robyn with their Bats. And of course...Judyanna. Joh and his team of merry workers did an AWESOME job leading up to the day and also on the day itself. A very big thank you to everyone who donated prizes etc. Coralie McClintock, Woolworths North Shore, Woolworths Woodlands, Coles Bushland Beach, Coles Deeragun, Officeworks, Spotlight, Red Rooster, K Mart, Bakers Delight, Thrifties Discount Variety, Sue Blom, Styling By Annie, Mystic Sands Golf Club, Balgal Beach Chemist, Fisherman’s Landing, Bp Rollingstone, Rollingstone General Store and Post Office, RaDCA, Farm Tails, BBB&LC, A & J Bennett, Bluewater Indoor Bowls, Toomulla Beach Community Assn, Fishermans Landing Fishing & Social Club, Rollingstone and District Lions, Madonna Reinke, Elizabeth Edwards, N Dametto. Rollingstone and District Lions Club Inc. Hi Folks, The Water-Wise Gardening Expo has been and gone and from all reports it was a great success. Lions eventually sold all the round bales of mulch and thanks goes to Denis and Linda Cleaver, Vince, Bruce and myself for delivering the bales of mulch to all those water wise gardeners in our community. A number of our club members attended the National Lions Convention at the Entertainment Centre in Townsville. This was conducted over the long weekend and it was a resounding success. It was sponsored by the Townsville Lions and District and the organising committee did an outstanding job. Our own Lion; John Muller was a major driving force to the outcome. He reminded me of the Energiser battery Bunny, truly he did not stop all weekend. We had representatives from the International Lions Community as Guest Speakers and also speaking were members of each foundation that we support. These were very informative sessions and gave us a great insight as to just how much help we do provide at home and around the world. I believe two of the highlights of the weekend were listening to the 5 Leo’s of the Year Finalists and the 5 Youth of the Year Finalists. These young people astounded the crowd with their intelligence and confidence speaking on various subjects. I believe that some of these young folks we will see as Leaders of Tomorrow. On June 2nd, we have our Changeover Office Bearers Dinner at the Mystic Sands Golf Club. This should be a great night and a time for our Lions to relax and have fun. Once again, I invite anyone wanting information regarding Lions and also if anyone is in need of assistance; please don’t hesitate in calling. If you are having a function and need a Cold Room; we have one for hire at $100 per day...extended period—negotiable. That’s all from me. Talk to you next month……..Dowie…...0412396450 LIONS STORY DOG

Just one of the many joys of being a carer is not just a matter of caring for these animals and then releasing them. Some times we have to transport animals back to their natural habitat. In two separate cases Gaye and myself had to take two Black Stripe Wallabies down to a carer in Serena, 40klm south side of Mackay when they were big enough and could handle a car trip as we don't have this species up here. This was a two day trip as we had to check out the release sight and talk to the carer and spend time with the Wallabies to make sure they are settled in and not stressing. Stress is a big concern when relocating any animal so we have to spend time with them. It's not just a case of letting them go and hope for the best, it's all new to them and strange. One minute they are tucked up in a man made pouch and the next they are in this strange smelling new surroundings so we have to watch them to be sure they are ok. All the expenses of this trip came out of our own pockets and we do this for the love of the animal. It is not easy going on the old pocket when we have to do trips like that, but it has to be done, for the sake of the animal. And this is why we rely on donations from the public for which we are deeply grateful. We love what we do and would not have it any other way…………. P31 See you in the great outdoors.....Chris.
