EVENTS AT A GLANCE SUMMER 2024
Pathways 2024:
The Carlos Malamud Prize
May 30 – September 1, 2024
This biennial exhibition is the result of a partnership between the UCF Art Gallery at the University of Central Florida and the Rollins Museum of Art to celebrate and support emerging professional artists working in Florida. Juried by an external panel of three professionals from various areas of the art world, this year’s edition of the exhibition features six artists with diverse practices. The selection includes a variety of media, themes, scales, and approaches, showing a wide breadth of perspectives and experiences. Works by the finalists will be shown at both venues, creating opportunities for engagement with two of the area’s major academic constituencies and their surrounding communities.
This year’s finalists are Patricia L. Cooke, Samuel Aye-Gboyin, Tenee’ Hart, Fernando Ramos, Diego Alejandro Waisman, and Clio Yang.
Critical Reading: Book Arts in Dialogue with the Collection

This exhibition challenges preconceptions about the act of reading by exploring experimental methods of communication and comprehension. Including works by contemporary artists in various media, Critical Reading encourages viewers to become readers through works that address political and cultural issues, memory, and storytelling through text and image. Artists’ books from the Rollins Book Arts Collection as well as by members of CBAA (The Association for Book Art Education), activate dialogues with works from the museum’s collection, providing opportunities to engage in critical reading from diverse perspectives.
Critical Reading is co-curated by Dr. Gisela Carbonell, Curator, Rollins Museum of Art and Prof. Rachel Simmons. Department of Art and Art History, Rollins College

EXHIBITIONS SUMMER 2024
The Fantastical
Mundane: Selections from the GrassetLinares Collection
May 30, 2024 – January 5, 2025
During the 17th century, booming Dutch trade enabled the rise of a powerful middle class. This, along with the waning patronage system, led to the emergence of an art market that catered to the tastes of the new social class, making art available for display in private homes. This economic prosperity and growing demand for relatable imagery gave way to the Dutch Golden Age of painting, where marvelous still lifes, landscapes, and genre scenes became widely popular. The works in this exhibition illustrate the captivating charm of mundane subjects like flowers, fruits, and the natural terrain.
On long-term loan from The Grasset-Linares Collection, this selection of paintings includes traditional Dutch floral arrangements, rich banquet scenes, and detailed landscapes. This exhibition is guest curated by Sophie Foster ’24, former Fred W. Hicks Curatorial Fellow at the RMA.
EXHIBITION TOUR | June 7 | 11 A.M.

Rollins Museum of Art’s Collection is constantly expanding. Generous gifts and strategic purchases enrich and diversify our holdings, offering opportunities to engage with unique works of art. This exhibition features recent acquisitions on a rotating basis, allowing us to share our new treasures soon after they become part of the museum’s collection. The selection reflects the museum’s sustained commitment to acquiring works in various media, from different periods, and by artists of diverse backgrounds, in alignment with our teaching mission and the curriculum of a liberal arts education.
