Expert Telesales Tips From‌
1. Start phone work at 8 am. Use the time from 8am - 9am to call people you have been told start early. Do not call entirely new people in this time. Resulting contact rates will soar. It's the best hour of the day in sales. This tip is for professionals only of course. The rest of you will be in bed. 2. To facilitate the above you need to ask people when your contact starts work instead of when will they be available. Busy people are best called 10 minutes after they arrive at work. Get used to making this is a simple, well rehearsed question and it will sail straight past most gatekeepers and they answer. 3. Stop minimising the reason for you call. Be bold and sound sincere not begging to be heard. "I just wondered", "this is just a quick call" + many more are minimising lines. Stop sounding like the little guy. Too many telesales people sound like telesales novices and that's why they get blocked and subsequently dispirited.

4. Ask your prospects what to put in the subject line of follow-up emails. This works well and ensures your email is less likely to be deleted.
5. Make a point of always asking if anyone else should be receiving the email you are about to send. Make these emails as brief as you can. Nobody reads long emails except people in love and that is hardly likely to be the case with cold calling. 6. Listen carefully for busy or irritated voices. Get the hint and get off the phone. Do not drone on once you realise your call is seriously unwelcome. 6a. 90% of telesales have no idea when to shut up on a call. This is a learned skill so learn it. Get in touch with someone who can teach you when to shut up. SIMON KENNA | www.simonkenna.co.uk | T: 020 8720 6567 | E: simon@simonkenna.co.uk
7. Have fun on the phone wherever possible and smile, smile, smile. It works all the time. A smiling dialler will always outsell the timid, the unsmiling and the undertaker callers. Be positive and happy in your work. Don't be a bore, seriously liven yourself up before calling.
8. Reach out to your colleagues in the office. Others will indeed notice things you can tighten up in your daily work. Don't wait for Matron (your manager) to notice and tell you; ask your colleagues. 8a. Stick close to the number one guy in the office. That's the number one guy who wins all the clients, goes home with the fattest pay cheque and probably appears to work the least.

9. To do the above you need to get on well with your colleagues. Don't be the idiot in your workplace, make sure you get on very well with most in your team. 10. Start telling the truth to gatekeepers. Most are a lot smarter than you think and spot the lies and silly games novice telesales staff use 'to get round or get past the gatekeeper'. Avoid all such advice in seminars and books. Try to be the one honest salesperson the receptionist hears all day. This is a telesales skill that needs to be taught to you.
