Dear Friends of RCA, Amazing things are happening! As we approach our 13th year in operation, the growth, excitement and energy at RCA are greater than ever, and as we look to the future, there is even more excitementa ahead! We have broken ground on a state-of-the-art performing arts center, we are adding 4th graders to our student body, and we have hired new staff who are sure to bring their own special spark to our dynamic team. At every turn our alumni are making us proud. From Zyan Wynn receiving the Gates Scholarship and deciding to attend Princeton to Brandon Benn choosing to make his mark at Yale, there is so much great news to share! When we first opened RCA in 2007, we envisioned that we might someday have as many as 60 teachers a day who would attend training. Now, we are training over 600 teachers a day, and we have currently trained over 60,000 educators within our halls. Those educators affect the lives of millions of students daily, and 96% of attendees say that they still use our methods and techniques in their classrooms, long after they have received our training. We had a goal to start a revolution in the education profession, and it is happening! The dream is coming true!

STAFF HIGHLIGHTS
RCA cofounder, executive director, and language arts teacher, Kim Bearden, released her second book titled, Talk to Me, a guide on the 6 principles for improving communication. RCA’s director of information technology and dean of students, Junior Bernadin, was featured in Atlanta magazine, Voyage ATL, and was also quoted on Forbes.com. RCA’s senior director of development, Kirk Brown’s Baby Shark baby announcement video went viral, amassing over 3 million views and was featured on O, Oprah Magazine, BET.com, and 11Alive News. RCA students welcomed Japanese exchange students from Wakayama Junior High School for a cultural exchange program. Students were paired with an RCA student to attend classes, after-school activities, and spend the night with their RCA house family.
COMMUNITY On Comcast Cares Day, over 50 RCA family members volunteered with the Emerging 100 of Atlanta to beautify the campus of South Atlanta High School. Our 7th grade and 8th grade boys attended a special screening at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights for the documentary about Representative John Lewis titled, Get In The Way!
On May 7th, RCA cofounder Ron Clark released a revised and updated edition of his New York Times best-seller book, The Essential 55. The original release in 2003 sold over one million copies.
EDUCATION REVOLUTION
We reached a milestone by hosting over 15,000 educators for training at RCA in one year. RCA will expand into a 4th–8th grade middle school. We officially accepted students for the Class of 2023 (incoming 5th graders) and 2024 (incoming 4th graders). RCA held its groundbreaking ceremony for the Ryan Marshall Performing Arts Center on May 22, 2019. Construction is underway with a grand opening expected in the spring of 2020.
The Essentials Step Team believes in service to others, so they jumped at the chance to help two local organizations. Homeless at Heart and the Nicholas House. Atlanta Falcons football team ambassador, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms teamed up with RCA students to create a video in support of the Atlanta Falcons for #FalconsFriday. The Class of 2019 was invited to a special screening for the film, The Hate U Give. Gabrielle Erawoc, 8th grader and yearbook editor, interviewed cast members and the book’s bestselling author, Angie Thomas, on the red carpet. Ron Clark created the #GradingPapersChallenge – a musical challenge that invited educators from across the world to create entertaining videos while grading papers for their students. Seven students were surprised with a new bedroom as part of the Xtreme Bedroom Makeover. Special thanks to NAIOP Georgia, JE Dunn Construction, the Crisp family, Team #ScottStrong, SunTrust, Promethean and Vincent Young, and International Hotels Group.
Ron Clark was one of 18 castaways on season 38 of the CBS tv show Survivor: Edge of Extinction. Since 2000 he has been hooked on the game to outwit, outplay, and outlast. “I want to live the experience and share my journey with the ones I love. It would be a monumental moment in my life!” –Ron Clark

South Africa
The 8th grade class at RCA recently raised funds for South African schools. After months of holding bake sales and other forms of fundraising, they exceeded their goal of $15,000, the most any RCA class has ever raised. While in South Africa, the 8th grade class connected with Kliptown Youth Program, an organization for disadvantaged youth that provides tutoring, athletics and arts programs.
Through their fundraising efforts, RCA students were able to provide food and diapers for orphanages in Soweto, a township in Johannesburg. They also provided school supplies for schools and youth programs in the shanty towns there. RCA 8th grade classes donate to South African schools and communities every year.

RON CLARK ACADEMY HIGHLIGHTS Here are a few outstanding highlights of the school year that we are excited to share...
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL RCA UNITED
From the moment students arrive on the first day of school, they were welcomed with excitement. A marching band greeted them, and our enthusiastic staff members grabbed students out of cars and whisked them away to walk the red carpet to dance with their peers. Inspired by the theme “RCA United,” students and staff wore customized soccer jerseys in their house colors.
MASTER EDUCATORS
We have a stellar team joining us for the 20192020 school year. Our goal is always to find the best educators for our students. When reflecting on his new adventure, Bonner voiced, “My heart is overwhelmed with enthusiasm and excitement as I join RCA. I can’t wait to meet the incoming students and create new learning experiences!”
GLOBAL LEARNERS
THE AMAZING SHAKE
The 7th grade students traveled to Greece and Italy to bring their in-school lessons about history, art, and culture to life. Prior to the trip, students learned about numerous elements of Greek and Italian history in ways that addressed every academic content area. Some landmarks they visited included the Acropolis, the Oracle of Delphi, and the Vatican Museum.
Over 265 students representing 21 states in the U.S. and the countries of Honduras and Nigeria experienced the Amazing Shake challenges and represented their respective schools.

EXPANDING THE REVOLUTION In addition to affecting the lives of our students, the Ron Clark Academy is also a demonstration school—a place where visiting educators can watch our teachers in action and participate in professional development workshops. With the addition of the Ryan Marshall Performing Arts Center, we will be able to greatly enhance our fine arts programs at RCA. The facility will also enable us to train 150,000 educators over the next ten years, thus affecting the lives of millions of more students across the globe.
The Ryan Marshall Performing Arts Center will be a 39,580 sq. ft. multi-purpose facility. The main feature will be the state-of-the-art, 900-seat auditorium and performance space, which will allow us to expand our training opportunities and better serve visiting educators.
The new addition will include: • • • • •
A gigantic rotunda that can hold up to 800 people An auditorium and performance space with approximately 900 seats Four multifunctional classrooms with seating up to 210 visitors Five offices and storage space Two parking lots (expanding parking from 40 spaces to 170 spaces)
