German precision-welcome “Lola”
Welcome to Issue 2 of Porsche Parade. This issue sees the PCV at Bathurst. Petrol Head Heaven for those of you who have watched the big race and one day dreamed of screaming down Conrod Straight. An event that will hopefully be one day be repeated. If by some chance you need some encouragement check out our “King of the Mountain” article on page 38. Will visits another of our member’s wonderful car collections in our regular “What’s in your Garage” This time it’s “Passionate Petrol head”
On a personal note I have recently added two new German Thoroughbreds to the stable. Both have excellent pedigrees, performance and service history with a guarantee to put a smile on you dial each time you engage them. Yes this month we welcome our new Mini Snauzer Lola and the 1988 911 Club Sport isn’t bad either! Together with all our competition and Social reports I hope this issue brings you warm winter reading. Thanks to all who contributed to this issue. Ron Widdison, Editor

Landing soon from the UK - the new “911 Club Sport” as seen in GT Porsche magazine
Competition Editorial So we’re halfway through the year already! It only seemed like yesterday when I was writing about who had bought/ swapped/begged and borrowed new cars for 2010. In club championship terms it’s pretty much a wide open race between; Bob Hawker, Simon Baxter and Tony Jennings. In regards to class championships it’s a very close race in most classes and I’m sure we won’t know the final results until the last round at Winton in October which could make it a nail biter for many of the competitors. In this issue of Porsche Parade we have articles from Winton (written by Bob Hawker), Attwood (written by Graham Lachlan), Haunted Hills (written by Simon Baxter) and last but certainly not least, Bathurst (several writer’s contributed to this one!). I was incredibly fortunate to be part of the Bathurst experience not only having the privilege of racing a 911SC at ‘the mountain’ (thanks to the kind generosity of Grant Stephenson for sharing his car with me) but I also had the unique opportunity of flying myself and seven other PCV members to and from Bathurst for the event. The FOSC/Porsche Cars Australia weekend at Bathurst will undoubtedly remain in
my memory as one of the best experiences of my life, and I am sure that I’m not alone in that regard. Well done and a big thanks to FOSC, Porsche Cars Australia and Porsche Club Victoria for organising and running the event as well as a very big thanks to Grant Stephenson and Weltmeister for organising the massive logistical exercise that it became.

president’s message There are still 2 club nights and over 12 social & register events to the end of the year. There are also still 4 competition events to run and there are still some opportunities for the current class and outright positions to change – egos and small sheep stations are at stake. Our Club is a very active Club we are now halfway through the year after successfully running 9 Social events, 3 club nights, and 8 competition events. Many thanks to all those who put the time in to make these events happen for us. We had a strong contingent from all the Australian Porsche Clubs head to Bathurst at Easter to enjoy driving this iconic track at speed. Congratulations to Charles Jardine and the team at Festival of Sporting Cars for a great event and to PCA and Pamela Ward for their efforts in supporting this event and making it happen.
A few items to note:President’s Day in November is at Calder this year, not Sandown.
competition to see which car club can win this first event. The Annual Dinner will be at the Sofitel on 4’th December and we should be able to accommodate everyone. So check the website to see what’s on and join in the events with your friends.
Ian Jenkins, President
On the first 4 days in October, Australia’s first national car club festival - CARnival - will be running in Echuca. We will have both social and competition programmes for this event and it promises to be a great event. There will be over 20 driving events including navigation runs, economy run, motorkhana’s, airport courses and more. Whilst many will participate in these events for fun, there will also be a serious
Well it is half way through the competition year and the Club has again experienced a number of Full House events. My thanks must go to the Event Committee and the volunteers particularly the marshals who without there would be no drivers. At Winton recently we had the surprise weighing of all cars and I am happy to report that there were only a few questions of class validity raised and as a result of the responses all was well. As was said to me last year “Cheating to win makes the trophy worthless”. At the time of writing Stewart Lachlan is starting to create a lead in the Open category that could soon be unassailable. Dean Taylor and Greg Lovett are fighting it out in M2 with only about 20 points between them. In MM1 Bob Hawker and Martin Higgs are so close proving that
We are about to head to the double header on the Queen’s Birthday weekend at Winton and Decca with two lots of points on offer the racing is guaranteed to be fast, tight and serious. The volunteers that we have turned up to each event must be mentioned here. The competitors have been well supported throughout the past few years with both Will Darvall and John Baker doing a fantastic job of securing the numbers for each day.

from race control this may be the class to watch as we get closer to the end of the year. Class A has seen the reliable Ian Jenkins relegated to third but not too far behind Rick Moscati in second and Phil Treloar in the prime position. B class has Simon Baxter 46 points ahead at the moment. The big question here is should Simon be allowed to take the trophy home to see how it looks on the mantle yet? In C the story of change continues with Tony Jennings 30 points ahead of Mark Chrzanowski. John Swan has a handy but not secure lead over Bruce Pollard in D class.

safe. Tristan is not even a member of the Club and relies on lifts to get to events. Why? Because he enjoys being involved in motor sport and finds the PCV a group that he likes to hang around with. There are many others who regularly attend and Tony Symes is another who is not a club member either. Please let the marshals know how appreciative you are that they turn up, do their assigned role through freezing weather or the blazing sun so that you are able to enjoy your passion of motor racing. Mo The year is half over, and Christmas is around the corner! Yes it’s only five months to the Annual Dinner. Make sure you have the 4th December already put aside for what promises to be a fantastic evening at our new venue the Sofitel. There are still plenty of opportunities to join one of the many social functions before the end of the year. Watch out for our Winter Run on the 18th July, the Go-Kart Challenge on the 15th September, our Spring Run CARnival in October, Federation Square Show n’Shine on 31st October, and our Last Run in November. Ensure you check our events web page to confirm events and dates. Make sure you come along and join in the Social Competition which is now in its fifth year. Don’t forget you get additional social competition points for attending Club Nights as well – just fill in “The Red Book”. The competition is still wide open for fabulous prizes!
Social Committee: it is excellent to see that our Social Committee is dynamic and the depth of commitment that our members avail themselves of. After a long service to the club David and Jennie Turner resigned from the committee earlier this year. On behalf of the club, we extend our thanks to the great work that you both have carried out, especially in resurrecting the Show n’Shine. Our committee has since been strengthened with the welcome addition of new member John Beurle. Many thanks John. Social Competition: Come along to Social Events and Club Nights and earn points to win! Whenever you may have the opportunity to support our Social Competition sponsors, please do so and you will be rewarded with excellent service and great value for money. Nillumbik Cellars provide the wines we enjoy at our Club Nights, Porsche Cars Australia provide our Club’s venue, and Traction Tyres provide members with road and track tyres, and suspension services all with a discount of up to 5%. First Prize - sponsored by Traction Tyre & Suspension Centre: Yokohama tyres of the winner’s choice (subject to availability), from Traction Tyre & Suspension Centre, including fitting and balancing, to the value of $1,500 (prize to be claimed by 1 March 2012). Second Prize – sponsored by Porsche Cars Australia (PCA): Items of the winner’s choice from the PCA Selection Department to the value of $400. Third Prize – sponsored by Nillumbik Cellars: Wine of the winner’s choice from Nillumbik Cellars to the value of $200. The competition will be open to all PCV members who are financial for the 2010 calendar year, but will exclude Committee and Social Sub-Committee members holding office during the 2010 calendar year. Please refer to our web site for the full Social Competition Rules.
Our Runs: The 18th April saw the return of a past favourite the Family Day. Re-introduced by Janet Conheady and Michael Chapman, the event proved to be very successful and popular with around 76 adults and 45 children attending. The MFB Museum was a great place to start from, the drive good, and the weather perfect. The food was wonderful, Stephen Wood provided a huge Easter Basket as a raffle (proceeds to CFA), and all the activities proved great fun (even the collapsing jumping castle!). Very well done Janet and Michael.

Our Autumn Run was organised by David Turner and Neil Drew. This double run included a weekend away at Warrenmang Vineyard and Resort, and those who couldn’t make the full week-end were able to join us for the Sunday lunch at Blue Pyrenees. The concept of a double run enabling members to enjoy the option of an overnight stay proved very successful, and one which will have a permanent place on our annual calendar.
CARnival: Our Spring Run will be a fabulous weekend incorporating Australia’s first National Car Club Motoring Festival in Echuca from the 1st October. The PCV Social Programme includes a special social registration to the CARnival Festival, accommodation on Friday & Saturday
Hunter Valley 2011: Planning is now finalised for our extended tour including the Hunter Valley in 2011. Our tour begins on Saturday April 9th and runs through to Sunday 17th April. Check the details on our web site, and look for our tour updates there as well. We have extended the numbers to take 45 cars, and we are fully booked with a small waiting list. It is not too late to put your name on this waiting list and as there may be some vacancies as we get closer to the event you may be lucky. Annual Dinner Dance: Saturday 4th December 2010. Only 5 months to go! Check the advertisement in this issue. This year’s event will be held at Melbourne on Collins, The Sofitel’s Grand Ballroom. Please book early. This year the event will be themed around “Porsche Martini Racing”. The event is shaping up to be really enjoyable and exciting, not to mention the inclusion of our “after party”! As Social Director I am keen to enlist your advice, suggestions and ideas as to the direction that Social Committee may take. Please phone me on 0411 831303 or email me at social@pcv.com.au with your feedback and suggestions. I look forward to meeting and greeting you at a forthcoming social event in the near future.

Early autumn run to Noojee
21st March
Boxster Cayman Register appearance. The forests floor was once again covered with all matter of plant life. It was great to see.
Wayne and I were very pleased that the run had been fully booked and that everyone arrived on time in Croydon and ready to enjoy the run. Before giving the instructions for the day and the usual reminders, we welcomed new members, Jim and Sandy Vassiliadis, owners of a 2007 Boxster Arctic Silver. There were also a few members on their first Boxster/Cayman Run. We then took to the road. The weather was a bit overcast and fresh compared to the mild weather that we had experienced the previous week, but we were all in good spirit and most of us travelled with their hood down. The traffic to Healesville, then through the Black Spur, was not as busy as we might have expected being a Sunday and was really enjoyable as always. The forest that had been devastated by the bushfires over one year ago was showing wonderful signs of regrowth: the black tree trunks were sprouting their new vigorous shoots, the tree ferns were extending their bright green fronds to the sun that was starting to make an
We arrived in Marysville just after 10.30am and the Bakery was very well organised. They had set aside 3 tables for us and treated us with scones, cream and jam and the hot drinks (mainly cappuccinos) were served with amazing speed. A few of us were tempted by the cakes and food displayed in the counter and stocked up on Hot Cross Buns. On the road to Warburton, we had a wonderful drive passing Lake Mountain (where a rally was being run), Upper Yarra Dam, all through the Yarra Ranges National Park. The winding roads gave the group a bit of chance to test the handling of their cars and their driving capabilities. Arriving at Warburton, a few of the members stopped for a walk through the town, visiting the interesting gift & book shops and galleries before taking back the road towards Yarra Junction and the right turn that was going to take us to our lunch destination: Noojee.
While having dessert, we asked Sandy Vassiliadis, being a new member, to draw the first lucky door prize (one of 3 bottles of Chateau Chandon bubbly with a box a chocolates) that was won by Maria & Al Del Gallo. Maria then drew Janet Conheady & Don Ballingall’s names and Janet drew Yannick & Graeme Anderson. The afternoon was very enjoyable with quite a few members staying on for coffee and interesting conversation with their fellow members. I would like to thank Niko Nichols for taking some wonderful photos on the day and making them available for all to see on the Club web page.
The Outpost Restaurant had reserved three tables for our group and presented us with a really nice menu on which we could choose a main course as well as an entree or a dessert. Wayne and I, as well as a few of the other couples could not decide, so we shared the first and last course. The Chef, John Snelling, had done a superb job in choosing and executing the menu that included a lot of local produce and everyone seemed very happy with their meals.

With power up by 60 kW and weight down by 70 kgs over the 911 GT2, the new 911 GT2 RS has a power-to-weight ratio of just 3.00 kilos per kilowatt, by far the best power-to-weight ratio in its class.

These are the ideal ingredients for an ultra-high-performance Press Information sports car with supreme agility, truly blistering performance on the road, and of course exemplary Porsche Intelligent Performance. Yet, despite this extra power and performance, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions versus the 911 GT2 are down by approximately five per cent to 11.9 ltrs/100 kms and 284 g/km respectively.
May 12, 2010 PCA No 10/10 The upgraded front spoiler lip and the rear spoiler lip made of CFR and now 10 millimetres higher ensure maximum aerodynamic precision and downforce are provided. The interior also exudes flair with lightweight bucket seats made of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic and lightweight door panels with door opening straps. The basic interior colour is black, contrasting attractively with features such as the red seat centre sections, red roof lining as well as segments on the steering wheel rim. The gearshift and handbrake lever are also both finished in red alcantara.
The 3.6-litre six-cylinder boxer engine has two turbochargers with variable turbine geometry. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a sixspeed manual gearbox. Developed especially for the 911 GT2 RS are super wide sports tyres measuring 325/30 ZR 19 at the rear, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h in just 9.8 seconds and 0 to 300 km/h in 28.9 seconds. Top speed is 330 km/h.
Production of the new 911 GT2 RS will be limited to just 500 units worldwide, with a small number confirmed for Australia. Local deliveries will commence in September with pricing to be confirmed around this time. Porsche’s fastest and quickest new 911 will be shown for the first time at the Moscow Auto Show on August 25.
Equally supreme stopping power on this ultra-high-performance sports car comes from PCCB composite ceramic brakes. Appropriate longitudinal and lateral dynamics are ensured by the sporting RS set-up of the springs, PASM Porsche Adaptive Suspension Management, anti-roll bars, as well as the dynamic engine mounts and PSM Porsche Stability Management. The new 911 GT2 RS stands out clearly from the 911 GT2 in appearance above all through the lavish use of carbon-fibrereinforced (CFR) components surface finished in matt-black, even wider wheels, flared wheel arches at the front, new 911 GT2 centre lock light-alloy wheels and as well as “GT2 RS” model designation on the doors and rear engine cover.

Club Night “Braving the Elements at Brighton” 20th April 2010
PCV’s welcome to the sparkling new Porsche Centre Brighton was not exactly what we all expected – inches of rain and a crescendo of hail rattling on the roof that briefly made conversation impossible. However, once the dealership staff hastily erected a few cabrio tops (located under the less-than-waterproof parking area roof) and raced around with mops and buckets, the evening soon got under way. Centre stage was the stunning 1977 935 chassis #003 car driven to a victory in the 1977 Mugello 6 hour endurance race by Jackie Ickx and Jochen Maas. This priceless car is on loan from the Porsche Museum, and a few of us can forever impress our friends by telling how we lapped it at Bathurst during the recent Easter Festival of Sporting Cars Event. (What do you mean it wasn’t going flat out at the time?)
The other highlight of the evening was Chris Mason’s talk and slideshow featuring his recent visit to the very same Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. This iconic building houses some of the earliest, most unusual, rarest, and most exclusive cars on the planet, and is a fitting memorial to the genius of Ferdinand and later Ferry Porsche. With the opening of this stunning museum, and the existing Mercedes Benz equivalent a few kilometres away, there is no doubt that Stuttgart has to be on the itinerary of anyone with an interest in the evolution of some of the finest vehicles ever made.
President Ian Jenkins maintained his usual ironfisted control of the evening, and wrapped things up by welcoming Kerry Leonard to the Club Committee as the new Registers Director. It was clear from the gleam in Kerry’s eye that Register events are about to enjoy a big resurgence – watch out Social Committee! On behalf of PCV we warmly thank the management and staff at Melbourne’s newest centre of Porsche excellence, and we look forward to enjoying future events on the southern side of the Yarra.
Over finger food, Steve Ellet the General Manager of the Porsche Centre Brighton welcomed everyone, and introduced his Sales Manager Jay McCormack who gave an overview of the impressive new facilities on offer and talked specifically about the history of the 1977 935 gracing the showroom. With the bar service in full swing, Keith Ryding took the opportunity to present an update of the Competition Results so far this season. The applause (or was it boos and whistles) was deafening when he congratulated Michael O’Brien on his outright win driving Keith’s old 911SC in the Sandown Regularity. Some may have felt Michael’s time was slow, but a win is a win! WINTER 2010

Red the Clown entertained in many ways
On Sunday the 18th of April, I attempted to squish the two grandkids into the front and rear boots of the Boxster, but no matter how I tried to do it they just wouldn’t fit properly. So I had to revert to Plan B.
Melbourne is a very interesting place to visit with lots to see, but be warned that parking nearby can be a little difficult (even on a Sunday morning to the surprise of organisers).
the nannies and poppies. We set up the picnic chairs and the trusty old esky and settled in to enjoy the company and the day. As the morning progressed more people started to arrive and the kids started to get stuck into the activities.
Pam and I strapped the grandkids into the Mazda Tribute and off we went. Having no idea where I was going, (which apparently is normal for me) I dialed Arthurs Creek CFA into the Navman and away we went, just like the Griswald’s on Vacation. While we chose to miss the central meeting point and make our own way to Arthurs Creek, we hear that the Victoria Fire Services Museum in East

It was a beautiful day and upon arrival we were greeted by Don the car parking attendant. I parked the truck in the designated area and unleashed the little tackers. What a great place, plenty of room for the kids, lots of things happening. The venue of Ryders Flat reserve was excellent. The kids could run wild with very little supervision required. Janet and her helpers were dispensing very nice coffees to the mums, dads and of course
The Easter Hamper raffle draw
The face painting lady was doing a great job of changing nice little faces into Darth Vader’s, Tinkerbell’s, and many other scary and not so scary identities. This proved to be a very popular event with the kids with a constant queue of five or six waiting to be painted up. Then there was “Red the Clown” who was doing his juggling and balloon tricks, again with an enthusiastic group of little followers and helpers.
Madeleine demonstrates that animals are fun for big kids too

over $1,500 raised and donated to the Arthurs Creek CFA.
The Jumping Castle was very popular, with an extra bit of excitement as it lost all of its air at one stage. It was quite a sight watching all the kids bailing out of a sinking castle. (Check out the photos on the PCV website.) The little fault was soon corrected and I don’t think we lost any kids in the deflating crisis.
A great day was had by all with a nice donation to the fire fighters. Well done to all the PCV organisers, especially Janet, Carly and Michael. I apologise if I have left anyone out. The kids really enjoyed it with the proof being both of them “out like lights” for the entire trip home. We are all looking forward to next year’s event. Don’t forget to have a look at the website for more photos from the day.
Other great things for the kids (and some adults) included the animal nursery enclosure, pony rides and a little game of cricket being played on the pitch. Whilst all this frivolity was happening we were treated to some magnificent food for lunch. Barbequed sausages, pies, pasties, salads, meats, sandwiches, fruit etc etc. There was plenty to go around and even go back for seconds. The afternoon sweets were even better. I think that if you were still hungry at the end of the day you must have a large tape worm sharing your body. Raffle tickets were sold for a substantial basket of Easter eggs and chocolate valued at over $100, which had been kindly donated by PCV Member Stephen Wood. With all money raised from the tickets going back to the Arthurs Creek CFA, tickets were a big hit. Michael O’Brien organised the drawing of the raffle which was drawn by my granddaughter Mia. The first winner was Anne Ross who obviously hates chocolate (just like me.. NOT) and re donated the prize. On the second draw it was won and this time claimed by a fellow Boxster owner Mary Baird. Congratulations and thanks to Stephen, Anne and Mary. A big thanks goes to Michael Chapman, PCV Past President and Arthurs Creek CFA 1st Lieutenant for helping Janet and Carly pull this event together. A further thanks goes to the members of the Arthurs Creek Fire Brigade Auxillary for the great food and hospitality shown. Particular mention should be made of Lisal Dorricott & Lois Stubley for lots of assistance, especially in the lead up. Unfortunately the CFA crew got called away during the afternoon to actually fight a fire.

PORSCHE PARADE
what’s in your garage?
Ray Graham is an enthusiastic, eager, “passionate petrol head”, who has studied cars all his life, ultimately attaining an honors degree in Porsche, with some Ford V8 muscle thrown in. Born in Essendon in 1949, a young Ray then moved to Traralgon with his family, where they still have a soft drink and confectionery distribution business. Growing up in Gippsland there was only “cars, golf and then girls”. He came to Melbourne in 1969 and slept many nights in his car for about 6 months, unable to find suitable work. Subsequently, he worked for various companies in confectionery and pharmaceutical businesses, before going to work at Brent’s Sports Car World. There he managed Brent’s International, selling accessories, obtaining the Armorall franchise, and marketing that and many other products, including protector strips, roof racks, pin stripes, etc. Some worked, others didn’t. He left in ’76 (after being shafted) and started his first business, a partnership in PD Sales, doing pre-delivery accessory installations for dealers. Next up was Suntastic accessories, which specialized in sunroofs and produced copious numbers of “shaggin’ wagons”, fitted with mattresses, bubble windows, sunroofs and murals, including the famous 3XY Freedom Machine. Always owning and building hot cars, life and business went up and down, not helped by an accountant shooting through with most of the company’s cash reserves in the late 70’s. An extended trip to Europe in 1979, which included sleeping at the Le Mans track, was “too much fun” and on return, he was back to square one. In about ’82 he began manufacturing and selling car accessories, including crash bars, headlight covers, rear spoilers and car alarms at Auto Cosmetics, which was very successful and subsequently sold. In about ’88 he entered into partnership with Burg Design in Austria, with popular new products such as wood grain dashboards and decals. A few years later they amicably separated and Ray formed his present company, Automotive Burg Design. He flogs a wide range of accessories, with parking sensors, cameras and the world famous Gtechniq paint perfection and upholstery coatings. This entrepreneurial, energetic young
man has 3 daughters and 5 grandchildren. He has been with partner Sandi Osborne for 8 years and they are frequent attendees at social events and lunch runs. Cars past and present Ten year old Ray was given a watch, which he pulled apart a few days later and for which Dad gave him a whack. However, he reassembled it and it still runs! Gearboxes with the neighbours were next and the die was cast; the illness took hold. First car at 16 was a D Type Jag replica, the Jewitt Holden, a significant sports car built by Harry Firth and George Coad. It had a Repco cross flow Holden motor and a C-Type Jag gearbox. It was fast, but happy only on racing fuel, and had been campaigned by George, Jim McKeown and Alan Newton, from whom Ray bought it. Next came a Carnation Red MGA1600 Mk.1, followed by a Green/ White Mk.1 Mini Cooper S/Cosworth. At 24 he acquired an ex-works XR GT Falcon (that car again!), with many development features never seen on the road, such as a high output 302, LSD and CR gearbox. Normal life with normal cars took over for many years, until in 1984 he bought a quck custom built RA60 Celica Turbo, followed by a Red HZ GTS Monaro, which, with the assistance of Peter Brock, was turned into a 500 HP beast, with all the fruit. Life intervened again and cash was sunk into family and boats, until a religious conversion in 1985 led him Porsches and Jeff Dutton (some messiah!), who put him into a 1975 Carrera Targa. Ray was hooked and kept the car for 10 years, campaigning it in many Dutton rallies and PCV track days, having joined PCV in 1986. WINTER 2010

Moving down the rows of cars, starting from the left in the separate pics (and all except the C63 seen in the main pic) we have
1. A Mini LS, a fire-breathing standard car. However, there has been many other super fast Minis in the past.
2. A Black 1994 968 CS.
3. A White 1966 Mustang A Code GT LHD Coupe, which is like new, after a ground up rebuild. The bloke who did it, as a present for his wife, unloaded it because she hated it!
Mini LS
4. A Silver 2008 AMG C63, which Ray uses as his daily driver, as we all do!
5. A Green 1967 Sunbeam Tiger Mk.2, with a standard 289.
6. A White 1992 968 Cab.
7. A White 914/6, purchased in 1989, which was originally a yellow 914. Extensive modifications to body, suspension and brakes and a 3.2 Carrera motor transplant, have transformed this into a slopenose rocket. 968 CS 8. Black 1964 Sunbeam Tiger Mk.1, with a highly modified 260, giving about 300 HP. Ray has competed in Melbourne Mille events 5 times and the 2010 Targa Tas Tour in this car. Keeping a Tiger on the black stuff must be challenging!
9. A 1998 944 Turbo.
Previously, Ray has owned a Black 2002 996 Turbo and a Black 2005 997 C4S, as well as building 4 1973 RS Replicas, using ’87 chassis, 3.2 or 3.6 motors, G50 ’boxes and his usual attention to immaculate fit and finish. The recent superb black one has gone to a happy home up north. Current project is a 993 GT2 Replica on an ’89 Carrera. There were very few real ones imported, so watch out for that! Knowing Ray, there’ll always be a project or two on the go!

WINTER 2010

With serious elevation changes, ascending and descending corners, blind crests and dips, the Haunted Hills track experience is very demanding but somewhat short lived, however the adrenaline hit continues well after your run into the car park. The live timing display, the ability to view a large amount of the track from the hills above and the sound of motocross in the near distance gives the day a real feeling of involvement. Haunted Hills, as it is so suitably named, is always an enjoyable day for both drivers and spectators. The PCV Haunted Hills competition attracted 51 competition entries on the day and a hand full of entree class drivers. The competition class drivers were expecting to have a day of close, mostly friendly rivalry with their fellow class-mates, as they muscled their car around the 1400m track. The entree class drivers were out to build confidence and experience whilst enjoying their cars and the track. There are also a few experienced drivers who get handpicked to coach the entree drivers. Those fortunate enough to be picked know this is like a lucky dip... full of surprises. Track conditions were uncertain as a lot of recent rain left undesirable additional features. Some apex’s being covered in a silky layer of powdered dirt was somewhat concerning initially. The first cars out soon quashed all concerns as fast times were recorded. These times got faster as the runs progressed with cars and drivers becoming familiar with the track and comfortable with the conditions. The first track layout, a clockwise dash from a standing start was producing healthy competition amongst most classes. When lunch time approached
28
PORSCHE PARADE
there were some very close results. In B class, mid proceedings, positions 1st and 3rd were separated by 0.27 of a second, as I found myself the meat in a Daniel Reynolds and Peter Harrison sandwich. This pattern was repeated through many other classes by the mid-way point. In Class A, Rick Moscati, Phil Treloar and Gary Higgon running in 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively were separated by 0.42 of a second. Class C, Mark Chrzanowski, Peter Matherson and Grant Stephenson running in 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively were separated by 0.41 of a second. In Open Class, Andy Barlow, Stewart Lachlan and Ben Faggetter running 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively were separated by 0.6 of a second. These lunchtime results were good food for thought to say the least. Moving into the afternoon proceedings the track layout was changed to cover the figure eight format. This was not meant to be a motorkhana memory test and almost everyone managed to navigate the course the correct way other than one Nick Karnaros who managed to come back up the hill across the start line again in the opposite direction. You could see his mildly embarrassed smile through his helmet as he waved to the applauding crowd. The second formation defined many class results. The times were also very close for these runs, especially with the continuing battle between Jamie Lovett and Dean Taylor for 1st place in M2 in almost identical cars who’s figure eight times were separated by 0.11 of a second. Open: Stewart Lachlan stole 1st place from Andy Barlow in the last few runs of the day, followed by Ben Faggetter in 3rd Place. MM1: Bob Hawker led all day to take out the win, followed by Michael Herrod

Jamie finished in 2nd position over Greg Muller in 3rd place. A: Ian Jenkins drove consistently all day to take out 1st place, with Rick Moscati in 2nd place followed very closely by Phil Treloar. B: Daniel Reynolds, Peter Harrison and I had a tight battle all day. I managed to pull ahead in the final run of the day grabbing 1st place. Daniel took 2nd and Peter finished 3rd. C: Tony Jennings finishing 1st produced great times in his 911 SC with a large lead over his competitors. The fight for 2nd was a close battle won by Peter Matherson over Grant Stephenson who settled for 3rd. D: John Swan drove well all day winning convincingly over his small field of competitors, Mark Homer who came in 2nd and David Morgan taking 3rd place. One can only hope that the numbers in my prior class, D Class increases and it returns to the glorious class that it once was. STAR OF THE DAY: Tony Jennings who won convincingly over his C Class opponents also set a new lap record for the clockwise track layout. Tony now holds the Haunted Hills C Class track records for both configurations.

In a nutshell, the 911 GT3 RS is a genuine racing car approved for the road. It’s been formulated for demanding competition use with a special suspension, weight-saving components and large carbon-fibre wing spoiler.
Also available are orange and green, which come with contrasting black accents. Carrera White is the final option and doesn’t have a contrasting color.
Porsche makes this model available to the general public because racing requirements dictate it must sell a production version of the actual race car.
Inside are highly bolstered racing seats upholstered in leather with suede-like Alcantara inserts. The steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake lever are also covered in Alcantara.
The all-new 911 GT3 RS features a new and more powerful 3.8-litre flat-six -- up from 3.6-litres last year, and now producing 450 horsepower. That figure is 15 horsepower up on the current GT3 and 35 horsepower more than the previous GT3 RS.
Its aerodynamically sculpted body is slightly wider but lightweight materials bring weight down by 20 kilos. This allows the RS to knock off a slightly faster zero-to-100kph time of 4.0 seconds (just 0.1-seconds faster). Top track speed is identical at 310 kph.
Porsche engineers also managed to improve the GT3 RS’ handling, thanks to a specifically setup PASM suspension, wider tracks both front and rear and dynamic engine mounts that can change stiffness and damping effect to improve the connection between the engine and the car’s body.
The only transmission is a six-speed manual but, compared to the regular GT3, the RS’s has a single-mass flywheel for higher racing loads.
The new 911 GT3 RS also features a lower ride height, a large carbon fibre rear wing and a titanium exhaust system. For those looking to shed even more weight - 10 kilos to be exact - a lithium-ion battery can be ordered in the place the conventional lead-acid battery. The 911 GT3 RS definitely stands out on the road in its five available paint colors: metallic silver or black, which come with contrasting orange accents.
Porsche Active Suspension Management and traction control are both standard. As expected, the brake system is also of the high-performance variety with Porsche’s ceramic composite brakes as an option. The lightweight 19-inch wheels are RS-exclusive. For measuring track performance, customers can opt for either Porsche’s Chrono Package or more comprehensive Chrono Package Plus. These include a digital-analog gauge on the dashboard.

I’m “King of the Mountain” - well not quite, but that was certainly how I felt screaming down Conrod Straight at Mount Panorama.
interest about everyone’s time on the track, to an outsider we probably looked like a pack of overexcited school kids, but hey I think that’s a good thing.
What an amazing experience, strapped in, helmet (and gloves) on, sitting on the grid at Bathurst. I was taken back to my childhood, anxiously sitting in front of the TV with a bowl of Coco Pops on my lap, excitedly waiting for the start of the Big Race. Every year I promised myself “one day I’ll do that” and then remade the same promise every year. This was definitely a dream come true. A great part of this experience was the other drivers, no one returned to the paddock with a cocky swagger or a deflated I could have done better, there was just a hive of excited chatter and
Don’t bother looking for my name at the top of the time sheets, I’ve got no amazing passing moves to brag about or trophies bound for the pool room. But I’ve got a grin that may need to be surgically removed. Perhaps the delusion was caused by a lack of oxygen (holding my breath from Skyline to The Chase), but for a few brief moments I really was “King of the Mountain”.

Auto 1000 kilometres - Well we actually lived it, actually survived it. Flat out at probably 230 kph down Conrod which is all my 1983 911 SC could muster; but it felt more like 300kph. Also the TV coverage doesn’t do justice to the undulation across Bathurst which on your first few runs makes the car feel like its floating at times - a little bit unsettling until you get brave and try to ignore it. Then there was The Mountain - scary enough going up the Mountain, terrifying coming down. You’d size up a corner thinking it’s similar to the flip-flop at Calder or Dandenong Road at Sandown or even Lukey Heights at Phillip Island - only to realise you have a Mountain of Momentum (“literally”) behind you as you hurtle down the Mountain, front left wheel instinctively off the deck at The Dipper; continuous, unrepentant left and right turns and eventually Forest Elbow to start the kilometre plus long straight of Conrod.
OK - How do you sum up Bathurst at Easter 2010 - in three words? “Bucket List Item” comes to mind, as does “The SKI Club” (aka Spend Kids Inheritance), but the truly religious experience Bathurst is - I prefer “PETROL-HEAD HEAVEN”! The format for Bathurst was a 3 lap orientation behind an experienced Bathurst Driver or “Master” on Sunday 4th April, then a 30 minute Practice with another 49 Porsche’s on Monday 5th April in the morning; followed by 3 x 30 minute sessions comprising the Regularity 6 Hour Event (for a Team of 4) over Monday 5th April and Tuesday 6th April 2010. So “How was it?” - I hear you ask. No words do Bathurst justice. You know the TV In-Car Camera shot down Conrod Straight during the SuperCheap 38

going to jeopardise a fantastic memory of Bathurst with a Last Run bingle in the wet; therefore we’d all return to the pits if the rain set in. So here we are 50 or so Porsche’s lined up in Pit Lane when the Marshalls start walking down, putting their heads through the driver’s window whispering those famous words (and I quote) - “We’re starting to get a few spots of rain at the top of the Mountain - It might be a bit slippery”. In any case, the Marshalls let us go on a sighting lap and by the time we hit the top of the Mountain - it was raining, not drizzle, real rain and none of the 50 Porsche Drivers with wet weather tyres. So we did the sighting lap and ALL returned to Pit Lane. As we trickled down Pit Lane the Marshalls again whispered sweet nothings into our ears (again I quote) - “Drivers Choice - Out if you want”. So what do you do?” Listen to your level-headed conscience and do the smart, sensible thing and return to the Pits OR Listen to the Devil in all of us. As we slowly cruised down Pit Lane a number of questions / observations entered my head - A large number of Porsche’s are heading into the Pits! How many times am I going to drive Bathurst? How many times in the wet? I’ve already paid for the session! So as other smarter Porsche drivers peeled off into the Pits - I veered into the right (hand) lane awaiting the Marshall to release me (and around 15 other astutely-challenged) onto a wet Mount Panorama. Then the ride of your life. Getting into the swing of the lap, feeling the groove, believing it to be dryer than it really was, rain and spray making it challenging to see through the windscreen, twitching around a few corners, actually overtaking a number of cars as the more powerful Porsche beasts found it difficult to deal with the slippery conditions - Just Brilliant! I was smart enough to record My Bathurst Adventure (another 3 word summary) While I felt well within myself and my abilities for my fast laps, I was always respectful of Mount Panorama as you know she could bite anytime she wanted - so you had to court her slowly and courteously from the Practice session through the 3 Runs of the Regularity. Equally you didn’t allow yourself to get impatient with waved double yellows upsetting your fast laps or red flagged sessions - as if you did you ended up like a number of cars, notably not Porsche’s, being pulled out of the pebbles or being carried to a panel beaters. My lasting memory of Bathurst was my Last Run. We’d had fantastic weather for our 3 days at Bathurst; then around lunchtime on Tuesday 6th April the clouds started rolling in and looking ominous. The horde of Porsche Drivers in the (Weltmeister) Pit Area we were using - all agreed; if it rains we’re not
with an in-car camera and have relived the experience again and again Just ask my family and friends. Think of those slide nights a few decades ago - at the mad cousin or uncle we all have. As I recently summarised in an email on Bathurst - I’m a fraction of those V8 Drivers ability, my car’s got 75% of their V8 cylinders and top speed; but the Bathurst experience at Easter 2010 will forever be implanted in my memory banks - if not better than . . . at least as good as . . . Oh yes, I was categorically in PETROL-HEAD HEAVEN! Grant Stephenson

Deciding you are not going to miss out on track time at the Holy Grail that is Bathurst is one thing but how to get you and your car there is another issue. The good folks and their customers at “Club Weltmeister” carefully developed their plans over several boozy dinners. What emerged was a triumph of logistics. Grant Stephenson, in the role of Logistics Manager (retired), arranged the trucks knowing that we could not use any old operator. The trucks and drivers engaged had done this sort of thing before and brilliantly executed their part of the plan loading the cars in Church St Richmond on the Wednesday prior to Easter and having the cars safely in the Bathurst paddock at precisely the required time. Drivers arrived to find their cars unloaded and lined up with all the other Porsche’s. 40
PORSCHE PARADE
All that was needed was to get the drivers to Bathurst. Some who are members of the “grey army” ( retired folk) chose leisurely individual cruises with plenty of stop offs and stop overs so that the journey was not too tiring. One brave fellow even convinced his spouse that this was a touring holiday! For the rest of us with work and family commitments time was the critical factor. Flying was the answer but having seen the Melbourne - Sydney - Bathurst commercial flight schedule – you might as well drive! Our swashbuckling pilot in training, Aaron Ireland, together with Grant come to the rescue and secured the last two light planes available over the Easter break and so 16 Bathurst hopefuls flew to Bathurst aboard two 10 seat Piper Chieftain’s, one leaving from Moorabbin the other from Essendon. The Essendon flight was Captained by Aaron’s dad Terry who is a
professional charter pilot. The two hour trip was very smooth and no noisier than a big one. It was complete with on board meal service and uniformed crew (pity there were no ladies to appreciate Aaron in full regalia!). On arrival at Bathurst I was tempted to request a low level pass over the track to confirm our rock star status. The return trips on Tuesday afternoon were similarly excellent and topped off a truly wonderful motorsport experience with the cars being delivered safely back to Weltmeister at 7.00am the following morning. Bathurst 4th – 6th April. What an exciting time for those of us lucky enough to “drive Bathurst”, wet and dry track. What a trip!!. Apparently, they say I snore!, so said my mate sleeping in the same room (different bed!) the first few hours anyway, until he couldn’t stand the noise any longer and decided 3am in the morning was time to sit in the car, just to avoid sleeping through his alarm clock he said. He is very polite!. Then onto a new rooming partner (different bed again!) Mark Clair for the next night/s at Bathurst, fortunately, he sleeps heavily.
Well, onto the track we go, with some lunatics from PCV and others Australia far & wide, yes lunatics. We have Andy Barlow thinking that 290kmh is fine down Conrod Straight, whilst flying past me, ever so safely at a nice and respectable speed, Matt Kirwan Hamilton doing ridiculous times, “as if” he hasn’t been there before!, Aaron Ireland doing crazy times in a borrowed car, Phil Treloar thinking he is Mark Webber, in the pouring rain!!, then we have the craziest, our very own Nick Kanaros in his slightly modified silver weapon. Porsche’s go quite fast sideways, don’t they Nick? Quite exciting viewing from my rear vision mirrors. Oh yes, sorry, I got carried away, I thought we were here to write about Bathurst.. oh how good it was though, you should have been there! Congratulations to all those people who made this amazing trip possible for us, but clearly a special mention to Pamela Ward from Porsche Cars Australia, our PCV committee who were involved and for a select few of us, Grant Stephenson who does a great job in organising the blokes who need it most. Thanks Grant, again.

PORSCHE PARADE
Where was I, oh yes, Winton again. Well, just what my wife wanted to hear, “yes, I told you that I was going to Winton, don’t you remember?”, just 3 days after coming home from a week away at Bathurst! After driving in the rain at Bathurst, I was really looking forward to tackling Winton on a nice dry circuit, but due to my lack of praying, or maybe that’s what happens when atheists’ pray, rain it was. I drove up to Winton with my nice new Nevco trailer, car set up, new Hard tyres, ready to go. Fortunately, Weltmeister bring their pit crew “just for me” and Jessie & Tristan were hard at work,
changing my tyres to Softs, then the rain came during our driver’s briefing and Jessie figured it out quickly, that my hand gestures were in fact, yes, that’s right, please change to wets. How happy these blokes were, working in the rain, enjoying a good shower together. (They all shower together at Weltmeister, don’t you know? Cleanliness is Happiness is their motto) Alas, they were even happier 10 minutes later, when it looked like clearing and oh yes, sorry crew, please change to those Softs again. Ben, please don’t send me in an extra bill for that special service. Actually, it has already arrived, I can’t thank you enough. Only joking, litigation is quite common you know and I can’t afford that, along with the crew costs. A healthy field of 65 competitors, including a smattering of entrée drivers, arrived for the event. Congratulations to the PCV committee who welcome entrée drivers with open arms, along with Matt Stoupas and his band of little Greeks running the driving tuition, they are bound for future success. To succeed in the long term, any club needs new competitors, to continually inject new blood into the club.
Ok, enough of the ramble! With Group 1 leading the way out for the first timed session in the damp conditions, we had quite an exciting time, with the Greek spinning off during his first lap in his borrowed car of Ross Taylor’s, “cold tyres”, oh no, who changed that corner to such a tight one!, “it’s different to the other 10,000 cars I have driven”, “I wasn’t trying”, “my head wasn’t right”! I will stick with the latter, one of a few Matt gave me. Bitter/Sweet … More on that later. Open Class: Whilst Stewart Lachlan has acquired Peter Fitzgerald’s old weapon (not in a biblical sense), it arrived with a new colour scheme. Pity Stewart couldn’t afford to put some nice new carpet in there, along with some nice sound deadening material. At least that’s what Andy Barlow said, I think? Of course, with a ridiculous time of sub 1:30, Stewart has again made a pain in the a… of himself, beating Andy with a new beast of his own also doing a time of 1:31.5, which is fairly quick. Rex “The Pro” Broadbent coming in a respectable 3rd with a special mention to Peter Vanderzee on a terrific driving exhibition with times on the 1:35’s.
WINTER 2010

second, with Phil “MW” Treloar coming in 3rd on the day. It should be very interesting over the year. B Class: As is quite common place, Simon Baxter prevailed again, with a flawless driving exhibition, beating his nearest rival Peter Harrison by less than 0.5 of a second, then Nick “Recently Subdued” Kanaros coming in a respectable 3rd. Simon will need to watch out when the “Crazy” Nick comes out to play though, as his times are always right on the money and getting better!. This class is very competitive, with Daniel Reynolds coming 4th being only 1.2 seconds slower than Simon. C Class: Aaron Ireland in a borrowed vehicle, wiped the floor on the day with an excellent drive and very quick time of 1:38.10, albeit the points may not count due to 2010 new regulations, we’ll have to see if he does the required 2 sprints and 2 Motorkhana’s to qualify for points. Tony Jennings came in a creditable second, but two seconds behind Aaron and the inimitable four time Club Champion Mark Chrzanowski in 3rd place. D Class: In a terrific class of 944’s it seems, John Swan knocked off his nearest rival David Morgan by over one second, coming in with a 1:40.7 and Bruce Pollard running in 3rd place, a few seconds back. ‘Star of the day’ at Winton must go to Peter Vanderzee for a fantastic driving exhibition and for setting some great times in OPEN Class, he sure is entertaining to watch as well!!!
MM1 Class:
A Class:
Well, what can I say. Yes, you guessed it, I had to drive against the little Greek. (Yes, that is a strike through on the r, your eyesight is fine). It pains me to provide the results of Matt posting a terrific time of 1:33.91, whereby he was just a little quick for me, but we may get the chance to fight it out in the next event in June? Good work by Graham Gorman, driving extremely well with a 1:35.
As per usual, the first three places with no more than 1 second between them. Ian “The Pres” Jenkins should be ashamed of himself. Doesn’t he know that he should let others win sometimes?, just to keep them interested! Ian, as consistent as ever, beating Rick Moscati by just 0.13 of a
Bitter/sweet. (Bitter = he was too good, Sweet = I get to write this report and remind the committee there needs to be rule change to allow for you being 30kgs too light and very short). M2 Class: This was an interesting class and surely some “father/son” competitive spirit raising its ugly head. Why else would Jamie Lovett break the engine mount “clean off”, making sure Greg Lovett didn’t get the chance to beat the young gun? I am looking forward to watching some good competitive rounds in the future, between Jamie, Greg and Dean Taylor, who is always there with good times and now we have Matt Burton on the scene who produced a very good time of 1:37.8 in his 993 to contend with, coming in 4th on the day. 46

Autumn Double Run - Warrenmang Weekend 22nd - 23rd May
scene was set for a leisurely lunch, coffee and of course, the hats to keep the cool elements at bay. Browsing in the nearby book shops and the many, old ex gold rush, heritage buildings are among the features of this lovely town.
9.30am Saturday at Rockbank BP on the Western Highway. Everyone was early and on time. After coffee etc, David Turner welcomed everybody and gave an outline of the journey for the day. Detailed trip notes were given out and it was stressed it was to be a non convoy drive with plenty of time to take in the ambience of the country areas and the little towns. After a short time on the highway, we were going to use all secondary roads. Driving to Ballan, the group turned onto a minor road which led to a small town called Gordon. We did not expect everyone to stop there, but they did. The secret was that there was a little hat shop that made all of their own products. It was a visual delight to see the group in the shop trying on some of the hundreds of various styled hats. By sundown, the shop owners would have been still counting the bulge of $$ turnover from the Porsche Club visit!! One proud Porsche owner bought seven hats. For the rest of the weekend, drivers added to the flavour of the day by proudly wearing their new acquisitions of hats. Eventually, after adding considerably to the Gordon economy, the group drifted off on the trail to Creswick and then the character town of Clunes, into the “Widow Twankey’s Cafe. With the gentle autumn sun shining and an “old world” atmosphere of Clunes main street, the 50

After leaving Clunes in small scattered groups, the drive in our 911 through to Avoca was uneventful except for the nerve juddering undulations in the road surface. The writer/ organiser at this point must make a confession about the road conditions. When we did the reconnaissance of the route, we were in the Cayenne, not the 911. We just did not realise some of the roads were so bumpy. - So what? It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining and we did not have to meet any timed schedules. Relief was at Avoca. The road improved and it was only
twenty odd kms later in mid-afternoon, that we arrived at Warrenmang Winery Resort, perched up high on a hill, looking down the valley to the east. The hill was covered in grape vines and was in full golden autumn tones as the afternoon sunshine dispersed its light.

Saturday evening. Dinner in the dining room of Warrenmang. Porsche members and guests looked resplendent in their attire, especially those who even chose to enter with the addition of their new hats. A three course menu was served with suitable wines, in fact “many” excellent wines. There was a lot of gaiety and humour, and the evening was set to be a memorable one. Judging by the numbers still present very late into the evening, I am sure that all members just had another great day with the Porsche Club. Sunday 23rd. Breakfast in the dining room. The “debris” from the previous evening had been cleared and from the windows, we looked out onto the grape vines and fields in the valley, all covered in morning frost. Another beautiful day arriving. We thought of the group who were meeting Felix back at Rockbank, to do the day trip up here to the nearby winery Blue Pyrenees Estate for lunch. Would they have time to find and stop at the fabulous hat shop? We found out some of them did. They also had time for a coffee stop in Clunes. As if on cue, the group

arrived promptly at about 12:30 for lunch and joined the overnight members. The Porsche Club took over the winery!! The whole building was bursting with people. Gradually, everyone found seating at the many table settings, but I must admit, at first I thought we had under estimated the catering ability. However, lunch was soon on the way with a variety of hor’douves and then BBQ main course washed down with some well chosen wines from one of the best wineries in the district. Shortly after 3 pm, the need to return to “civilian life” was starting to stir as members made their farewells and started their trip home. Note. It was very gratifying to receive so many calls and emails from members to say how much they enjoyed the weekend and even those who participated in the day run. Thanks must go to David and Jennie Turner and my wife Phyl, for their organizational skills and support in formulating the weekend. Seeing nearly one hundred people enjoying the event so much, was more than enough thanks for me.

Attwood - a different day! 16th May
54
PORSCHE PARADE
competition Attwood this time was intended to be a different challenge for the competitors; instead of a short sprint thorough some cones and a circuit of the skid pan it was intended to be more of a challenge of car control and memory. By combining the two short circuits into a clockwise and anticlockwise long circuit and introducing elements of motorkhana style car control it was to have an equalizing effect on the competition by introducing subtle variations in direction both around selected cones and in the skidpan. Drivers would have to demonstrate greater car control and directional memory mapping to prevail; this would also produce a more open competition. Unfortunately, this approach had to be ameliorated due to unforseen hazards: open drain, Armco and difficult reverse gear selection in some cars. Whilst drivers should be able to drive to the conditions, in theory, the risks were deemed unacceptable by the competition committee on the day. The courses were therefore amended to reflect this decision. The committee, therefore, apologises for any confusion this caused due to the consequent alterations to the maps. Additionally, there are electrical interferences in the Attwood arena which can occasionally affect the timing devices. This was one of those days and the timing devices were so affected resulting in several re-runs particularly in the first groups to compete. This delayed the competition and slowed the morning session. The officials worked tirelessly to give competitors their fair share of runs and should be commended for this. Otherwise the day produced exciting competition and still tested driver skills and memory.
C Class Tony Jennings proving his increasing skill defeated “the oft club champion” Mark Chrzanowski from Peter Modica in third. Peter Witt just missed third spot by 0.63 seconds. How close is that! Newcomer and Regularity Champion Michael O’Brien managed to run in the middle of the class. D Class had just two competitors with the guile and expertise of Mark Homer prevailing over John Swan. M2 Class Dean Taylor showed a clean pair of heels to relative newcomer Kerry Leonard who just ousted Howard Burton by the proverbial Bee’s Dick; 0.14 seconds. MM1 Class was more open but saw Bob Hawker knock out the opposition of newcomer Harry Phillippou from John Beurle, Martin Higgs and Tony Moodie. Only three seconds between places three, four and five! That’s competition! Open Class again ended in a battle between Stewart Lachlan and Andy Barlow for first place, with relatively even spacing between all the other competitors. Stewart Lachlan continued his recent form and won first place. This year is most encouraging in competition with the arrival of new members who are driving well and taking it up to the established forces. The classes are all closely and hotly contested even under the trying conditions of the day at Attwood. I would like to extend my thanks to Andrew Bonwick and all the volunteer marshalls for working through the difficulties of the day and providing us with a great competition. With a special note of thanks to Bob Hawker, Phil Trelor, Michael Chapman and Rex Broadbent for their help with the course set ups.
A Class was very tight with Bruce Young, in the new car, just pipping Phil Trelor by 1.4 seconds with Garry Higgon just behind. B Class Simon Baxter, Peter Harrison and Daniel Reynolds battled at the top with Simon pulling out the win. Well done to Glenn Cook for his fourth place from newcomer Nick Karnaros by just over two seconds.
