50th Anniversary of the Porsche Club of Victoria in 2025. A time to celebrate.
Like to know a little bit about how it all began?
In 2011 Kerry Reynolds, a member of the original steering committee, later a committee man of several years, and himself a keen competitor, prepared this article for an issue of Porsche Parade, it is proudly reprinted below:
Club History
Up until the early seventies it was possible for performance-minded motorists to indulge their sporting inclinations on public roads, with little risk of coming to harm and only a remote chance of being caught. However, by 1975 the law had come to regard all speedsters as criminals and though being one of the last to succumb, it was obvious that unless I wanted to become a pedestrian, my sporting achievements would have to be recognised on the track rather than the road. A friend and fellow Porsche owner Vin Jacono agreed that I was at last showing some rare signs of good sense and that perhaps the answer to my frustration could be a Porsche club.
Having been involved with Vin some time earlier in the Triumph Sports Owners’ Association, I knew of the enjoyment to be derived from club motor sport. I took the idea to Tony Jones, who was at the time Sales Manager of Hamilton’s. Tony told me that another Porsche enthusiast Mike Stillwell had also expressed similar thoughts about forming a club. Tony was keen about the proposition and though not wanting Hamilton’s to be involved offered his support. Mike and I got together and, with encouragement from Norman and Alan Hamilton, commenced a series of preliminary discussions, culminating in the meeting of the Steering Committee, held at my home on Sat 5th July 1975.
At this meeting it was agreed that a club should be formed, with its main objective being: “The promotion of friendship among Porsche owners through organised motor sport and social activities”. It was decided also that through every means at our disposal, we should locate, if possible, all owners of Porsche cars in Victoria and advise them of our intentions and at the same time issue an invitation to attend our Inaugural General Meeting, to be held at the Light Car Club on Tuesday 26th
August 1975. This meeting was well attended with approximately sixty people present. Elections were held and the first committee comprised: Mike Stillwell - president; Kerry Reynolds - vice-president; Garnet Luckinssecretary; Vin Jacono - treasurer; Roger James and Jill Stillwell - general committee. One of the difficulties for this committee was trying to determine just what prospective members would be seeking from the new club. We were acutely aware of the failure of the previous Porsche Club and also conscious of the fact that as far as we could determine, there was no other strong Porsche Club in any other state - though this is no longer the case.
As part of our market research and in an effort to get to know potential members, we invited all known owners to our First Ever Club Event, a Champagne lunch at Lilydale Airport on Sunday 12th October 1975. This was a great success despite bad weather, with Fortyseven Porsches including many 356 models turning up. Past members who were winners of prizes on the day included Max Errington for the smartest car, John Edwards for the most courageous driver (for braving the elements in his open topped speedster), Ian Robinson as the owner of the most used 911, and Greg O’Keefe for the oldest Porsche. We even awarded a prize to an owner who risked arrest to be there - he was driving an unregistered 911, having just picked it up from the docks a couple of days earlier. The committee agreed after listening to the many opinions expressed on this day that the main interest was in the competition area. As a result, we solicited invitations from the Light Car Club and the Triumph Sports Owners’ Association to attend events at these venues at which we had outright wins, but more importantly, a lot of fun.
It was obvious, even at this early stage that we had some very competent drivers in good cars and with the number of members competing, it was decided that we should run our own competitions, with the first event being a Sprint Meeting at Winton on Sunday 1st August 1976. This was another great day. There were forty-one Porsches entered including ten 356 models. At that time, we had 107 Porsches in the club comprising 40 four-cylinder cars and 67 sixcylinder cars. The classing system then was simple - it depended on the model’s number of cylinders; consequently, we had two classes. This meant just a few trophies and also that
anyone with the ability to count to six knew as much about club classes as anyone else. (It’s different now!) This system served the club well until 1981 - since then there have been three changes. Looking back over the last eight years one sees many differences in the nature and structure of the club.
We now have an incorporated body with a large membership, conducting many sporting and social events. We have strong interstate connections with other Porsche clubs. One of the most satisfying features reflecting on the development of the Porsche Club of Victoria is the improvement of the skills displayed by our drivers. I cannot think of any member who, having competed in club events, has not improved their driving considerably. Many of our members have started out as very rough performers indeed, but after a few events the vast majority are competent and smooth drivers.
Many friendships have also resulted through the ability of Porsche owners being able to get together on a common ground. Even at competition events, far more time is spent socialising and swapping stories and information than behind the wheel, and for most owners this is what makes membership of the Porsche Club of Victoria so worthwhile.
So, what’s in store for 2025, as we celebrate the Club’s 50th
Anniversary
Well, we have already locked away some 70 plus events to our calendar for 2025 (see inside for more details) including (and ‘Save the Date” for this one) Tuesday 26th August ‘25 when we will celebrate our 50th Anniversary Club Night, exactly 50 years to the day, from our first Club Night held in the Rally Room at the Light Car Club of Australia in 1975. This night coupled with a Spring Celebration Day and our 2025 Gala Dinner will certainly be events not to miss in 2025.
So, buckle up and come and enjoy the ride !!!!

Welcome to the fourth Issue of Porsche Parade for 2024
As we enter 2025, we’re gearing up for a landmark occasion—the 50th anniversary of the Porsche Club of Victoria. This momentous milestone offers an opportunity to reflect on our rich history while also looking ahead to the road before us.
Looking Back at Our Origins
The Club’s origins date back to 1975, born from a shared passion for Porsche and motorsport. With new road laws curbing high-speed driving, founders Kerry Reynolds, Vin Jacono, Tony Jones, and Mike Stillwell envisioned a space where Porsche enthusiasts could drive with purpose and camaraderie. On August 26, 1975, at the Light Car Club of Australia, the Porsche Club of Victoria was officially formed, grounded in the principle of fostering friendship and competitive spirit among Porsche owners. Their first event at Lilydale Airport saw 47 Porsches come together. Today, the Club’s calendar is brimming with over 70 events annually and over 2000 members —from social meetups to competitive motorsport, each event fuels the passion of our members.
Celebrating 50 Years
2025 is set to be a landmark year for the Club. Key dates include Tuesday, August 26, 2025—the 50th Anniversary Club Night—marking exactly 50 years since our first official gathering. This will be followed by a Mega Family Fun Day and a Gala Dinner, giving members and their families multiple opportunities to join in the celebration.
The Road Ahead
While the Porsche Club of Victoria’s offerings have expanded, its core values remain steady: friendship, fun, and motorsport excellence. Over the years, we’ve seen drivers grow from novices to seasoned competitors, with friendships forged both on and off the track. Motorsport competitions have evolved from simple two-class systems to sophisticated multi-class formats designed to challenge and inspire members at all skill levels.
Our 50th anniversary is a chance to honour our past while looking to the future. Every member’s participation adds to the Club’s ongoing legacy. Whether it’s attending the Spring Celebration Day, joining the Gala Dinner, or hitting the track for a motorsport event, your involvement shapes the next chapter of our story.
So, get ready for an unforgettable 2025—we’re just getting started!

Presidents Report
Greetings Everyone,
This is my first report, since I had the honour of being appointed your new President at our AGM last October, and already nearly three months have passed.
Firstly, I would like to thank Past President – Melanie Treloar for the work that she did during her time on the General Committee, as Vice President and then as President, and on behalf of every member of the club, I would also like to convey my thanks to our dedicated general committee members, to Vice President - Mark Horton Andrews, Secretary - Neville Sampson, Treasurer - Flavio Lacota, Social Director - Clyde White, and the 11 members of the Social Committee, Track Director - Bill Toohey, and the 13 members of the Track Committee, Registers & Special Interest Groups Director – Paul Sbrissa and our 18 Register Captains, and to General Committee Members Ron Widdison, Garry Saber & Alison Belot.
To newly elected committee members, Kon Gogos and Vincent Caruso we say welcome, and to Cameron Goodyear who retired from the General Committee at the AGM in October, we say thank you for your service on the Committee over the past 4 years, and we are pleased to say that Cameron is continuing in his role as Entree Class Coordinator on the Track Committee.
Porsche fosters a universal sense of ‘family’, and we are no exception as 2024 saw the formation of our “Women’s Group, ably managed by Karen Bentley, and our newly formed “Young Members Group” (for under 35’s) of which you will see and hear more of over the coming 12 months.
Our Membership has now passed 2,270 members, and whilst this is a positive indicator of a successful club, it can also pose some challenges, particularly in providing new benefits and events for members.
Well, I think I can safely say that we covered these challenges well, as 2024 saw us provide some 70 Events, including …….
13 x Track Events, including Sandown, Phillip Island, The Bend, Broadford, Calder, Haunted Hills & Winton with the added inclusion this year of 2 x Webinars – titled “On the Track – Here’s how to get started” which attracted some 110 attendees and covered what’s involved for a member to put their car on the track and participate in Entrée Class.
Then we had 31 x Social Events – including, 4 x Club Social Runs, 5 x Mid-Week Runs, 3 x Club Nights, 2 x Club Morning (Breakfasts), 3 x Coffee Runs, 2 x Coffee and Cars, 2 x Technical Nights, 2 x Women’s Runs, 3 x Wine & Food Dinners, 2 x Special Events (PCV Experience at Lang Lang, and our Sim Night at YTG), our Annual Go Kart Challenge, and of course, our Annual Dinner & Awards Night, and if that wasn’t enough in itself , through the support of our Register Captains we also provided 26 x Register Runs.
A special acknowledgment must go to our Marshal’s Co-Ordinator – Murray Seymour, and the 50 or so marshals, track officials and other race day volunteers that he can call on to support us on our track days, your vigilance and expertise ensure that our events run smoothly, and your commitment to upholding the highest standards in track safety, are truly appreciated.
We are also continuing to grow our Social Media presence with the assistance of Karen Bentley (Facebook) & Natalie Jordan (Instagram) along with LinkedIn, You Tube and our Club Website.
Thank you all, for your selfless contributions, and for embodying the spirit of collaboration that defines the Porsche Club of Victoria. Your passion and commitment have been invaluable to the success of our events, from exciting track days to scenic drives, our community is spoilt for choice in the array of events that our club offers, without your hard work, none of this would be possible, and the Club’s owes much of its success to your collective efforts.
To our Incredible Admin Team – Carly, Lisa & Kellie, we thank you for your untiring commitment and support, in providing the continuing smooth operation of our club. You help bind our community together, and it is this dedication that allows us all to enjoy the passion and camaraderie that defines the Porsche Club of Victoria. Of special note in February 2024, we saw Lisa reach 15 years with PCV, while Carly celebrated an amazing 20 Years in August.
Speaking of supporters, I also wish to thank Porsche Cars Australia, Porsche Centre Melbourne, Brighton, and Doncaster for their continued support during 2024. We truly value their shared commitment to enhancing the experiences of our combined Porsche family.
Saturday 30th November saw us at the Windsor Hotel for our end of year Gala Dinner and Awards Night, and I would like to thank our organising committee Geoff Mould, Clyde White, Carly and Lisa for putting on another great night. (see report later in the magazine) I would also like to congratulate our 2024 Award Winners, namely the Darvall Club Person of the Year for 2024 –Juris Briedis, Rookie of the Year and (Tony Jones Memorial Trophy Award Winner) – Scott Pittard, 2024 Outright Champion and (Don Tryhorn Memorial Award Winner) - Stefan Wojciechowski, and 2024 Club Champion – Peter Jordan.
But what about 2025 ?…

Social Reflections
It felt like only the other day, I was penning my social reflections for Spring and here we are deep in December, having experienced a very busy calendar, not only with Club events, but all three dealerships being acquired by Penske, followed by celebratory events.
The Mid Week run to Kyneton Ridge Estate was excellent. I had the pleasure of being on the run.
The planned run by Natalie Griss was great, with a coffee break at the bakery in Malmsbury.
Followed by a very pleasant run to Kyneton Ridge Winery, for a wine tasting and a sumptuous lunch of antipasto, pizzas and wonderful socialising. Thanks, and very well organised Natalie. If you have not ventured on a mid week run, try it and you will be hooked like me.
Our Annual Dinner and Awards Night was good fun, albeit a very warm evening. Before commencing the night at 7pm, members were encouraged to get their photos taken. The canapés and drinks were wonderful, served in the restaurant. Plenty of socialising between the members set the tone for the night. At 7.40 members were ushered into the Burke Room, to be seated for dinner, followed by presentations and awards.
The night was enjoyed by all, with lots of dancing and socialising over a glass of wine. Thank you to everyone involved in organising the Dinner. Many thanks to Porsche cars Australia for their financial support.
Over the past eight months, I have got to know Hamish Christie-Johnstone Managing Director Penske Australia and New Zealand and Director of Penske Automotive well. I encouraged Hamish to get a message from Roger Penske to our Club, given that Penske’s have finalised the acquisition of all the three Porsche Dealerships in Melbourne.
The following message was sent by Roger Penske to our Club members.
“Greetings to the members of the Porsche Club of Victoria! As Chairman and founder of Penske Automotive Group I am delighted to extend my best wishes to you. We have a
long standing and very special relationship with Porsche and the acquisition of the three dealerships in Melbourne brings to 25 the total number of Porsche dealerships held by Penske Automotive around the world. The acquisition of Porsche Centre Melbourne is due to close on Monday (December 2).
I know there is a close association between your 2,400 members and the three dealerships in Melbourne and we look forward to building on that relationship going forward. Next year marks a big anniversary for the club, reaching 50 years, and we will certainly be celebrating that milestone with you.
My own history with Porsche extends back to 1958 when I started a four-year period racing Porsches myself with 55 race starts, first in a 550 RS and then in the 718 RSK, RS 60 and RS 61.
Since then, Team Penske has had a number of successful campaigns with Porsche including the iconic 917 Can Am car in 1972 and 1973, the RS Spyder from 2006 to 2008 and now the Porsche Penske World Endurance Championship and IMSA team with the 963 Hypercar.
In Melbourne I know there is a lot of expectation about the future of the three dealerships. What we can say now is that the three dealerships will adopt a one team approach and are committed to providing exceptional service to Porsche customers. After a period of harmonization, we will be building and executing a plan focused on creating world class dealership environments, enhanced by a cutting-edge digital ecosystem. We are incredibly excited to go on this journey together. In the meantime, have a great evening and we look forward to an exciting 2025 together!”
Porsche Centre Melbourne invited our members to a breakfast morning on Friday 6 December, to the opening of their new Destination Porsche Melbourne and the launch of the new all electric Macan. Our members were treated to a lovely breakfast, coffee and a viewing of the new Macan. Members were invited back on Saturday to test drive and experience the all-electric Macan.
A big thank you to David Simpson General Manager PCM, Allison Galea and Sophie Wright, for organising a wonderful morning for our Club Members.
Well, it is time to bid farewell to another year. I thank every member of the Social Committee for their hard work. And look forward to 2025, with renewed vigour and a calendar full of events, with some special ones to celebrate our 50th Anniversary. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Clyde White Social Director
Hi everyone,
Well, the end of another Competition year – and Christmas is upon us.
Since the last edition of From Pit Lane, we have been to Calder on Saturday 19 October. There was heavy rain in the days leading up to the event, and rain for the first hour or so, but thereafter the sky cleared and the track dried. Most of us had never driven Calder before, or not for 10 years - so for many the first sessions were about learning or reacquainting ourselves with the track. But then lap records started to fall. Overall, it proved to be an uneventful day – which is a good day in motorsport!!!!
That was our last competition day for the year, and several annual awards were determined based on the results. We have also staged President’s Day – our annual relaxed, passenger ride day, enjoyed by many of the drivers and their family and friends.
Congratulations to Peter Jordan (Motorsport Club Champion), Stefan Wojciechowski (Motorsport Outright Award) and Scott
From Pit Lane
Pittard (Rookie of the Year) and all the Class podium winners for 2024.
The 2025 Track Calendar is almost finalised and we are planning for 10 Competition events plus President‘s Day. Highlights included:
• Our first track event for 2025 at Phillp Island on Sunday 2 February
• A day/evening track event at Calder on Saturday 1 March (note the change compared to tentative venue advised earlier)
• The Sandown 300 Regularity on Sunday 23 March – in an exciting new formal that allows our most powerful cars to flex their full capability while being grouped with cars of similar pace. Entries will open in January 2025, so start thinking about your teams.
• A return to The Bend over the ANZAC day long weekend for a “2 day” track event (on track Saturday 26 & Sunday 27 April.) Entries will open in December 2024, and book early as we have strong interest from our hosts/friends at MSCA as well as from interstate Porsche clubs.
On behalf of all the track participants, our thanks go out to the officials, marshals and flaggies whose sterling work allows us to enjoy our wonderful cars in their natural environment.
And my personal thanks & best wishes to all the hard-working members of the Track Committee – many of whom put in a couple of days effort for each track day.
A safe and merry festive season to all –and lets “get on the gas” for 2025.
Bill Toohey Track Director
Gala Dinner Awards Night
The night began with 186 excited members arriving at the heritage listed Hotel Windsor. Some checked into their room for an overnight stay while some gathered in The Cricketers Bar for refreshments and to meet up with long-time friends or make new ones.
From 7pm attendees adorned in their most formal wear, posed for photos in front of the decorative old lifts. Achilles captured all the sparkles, colours, formal suits and elegant evening wear on display before entering The Windsor’s restaurant One Eleven for canapés and pre dinner drinks. A variety of tasty little morsels were served while wine, beer and soft drinks were flowing.
After lots of catch-up conversations attendees were ushered on through the historic lobby into The Bourke Room where the band Fifth Layer Music was playing to welcome us while we found our seating placement. This was the start of a big night of entertainment and they did not disappoint. Dinner and background music was the first session then it was gradually ramped up throughout the night for people to kick up their heels and let their hair down.
The MC James Egglestone kept the evening flowing and to many people’s surprise began to entertain the crowd with the most magnificent operatic performance. It didn’t take long until the audience was singing along, raising glasses and waving napkins to some of the most well-
Saturday 30th November &
known classic songs of bygone times kept current by the likes of Pavarotti and Bocelli, which certainly still pack a punch today.
Speeches were made from the President and Social Director. Clyde sincerely thanked Porsche Cars Australia for their financial support of the event and invited the CEO of PCA Daniel Schmollinger to the microphone who spoke of the year’s achievements and latest updates for Porsche in Australia. The Managing Director from Penske Australia and New Zealand Hamish Christie- Johnston also addressed the audience and delivered a message from Roger Penske.
The most deserving club members were then presented with their awards for the year.
Barbara Darvall, founding member of PCV and the wife of the late Will Darvall, was there to present the Darvall Club Member of the year award to Juris Briedis. Then recently retired Club President Melanie Treloar received the traditional Past President’s caricature.
Main course was next, which comprised of delicious salmon and lamb melas served alternatively along with a healthy array of vegetables. Fifth Layer played in the background adding to the atmosphere.
This was followed by the PCV motorsport awards delivered by Bill Toohey and Richard Catchlove. There was a lot of
cheers and applause for the winners from their fellow members after a successful year of club motorsport.
Then came the dessert, which was a plate of three different varieties of sweet treats, stunning to look at, all delectable, and just as elegant as the fabulous floral table centrepieces. Those coral coloured peonies sure were the talking point of the evening and most guests didn’t leave without taking one home as a memento.
Clyde returned to the microphone to thank everyone for their attendance and invited Carly to draw the door prize winner. The lucky name drawn was Jackie Tow, a new member from 2024 attending her first PCV Gala Dinner, who will be treated to The Windsor’s famous High Tea for Two.
The conversation in the room continued to flow. Lots of catch ups and a lot of dancing.
The Gala dinner came to an end with James singing “Time to Say Goodbye” and the patrons either made their way home or stayed in house to continue to enjoy the hospitality of The Hotel Windsor.
Thank you to all those committee members and staff that contributed to organising such a wonderful night.

Manthey Kit for the GT3 RS
22 NOVEMBER 2024
Few, if any, other cars bring more pure motorsport technology to the road than the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. The new Manthey Kit can further enhance the on-track performance of this top-of-the-range sports car through improved aerodynamic efficiency, modified suspension and optimised braking components.
Porsche is offering a Manthey Kit for the current 911 GT3 RS (992) for even higher performance on track. The kit provides significantly increased contact pressure and, as a result, higher cornering speeds. The suspension has been specially adapted for driving on the racetrack, while the brakes are
optimised for the particularly high demands of track-day driving. The new Manthey Kit was developed as part of a close collaboration between the Porsche Development Centre in Weissach and the Manthey engineers in Meuspath. These track-focused components will be distributed via Porsche Centres.
More than a tonne of downforce at 285 km/h
The extensive changes to the aerodynamic components make the Manthey Kit for the 911 GT3 RS immediately recognisable. The
spoiler lip with its new wing profile has been significantly enlarged and is supported by reinforcing elements made of carbon fibre. Together with redesigned wheel arch Gurney flaps and two dive planes on each side of the front bumper, the spoiler lip increases downforce on the front axle. The rear window is replaced by a 25-per-cent lighter carbon fibre panel on which a carbon fibre shark fin is mounted. The fin was derived from the World Sportscar Championship-winning 963 and is designed to increase cornering stability. In conjunction with six additional roof fins, it also diverts the warm output air from the front radiator outwards, thus ensuring
that cooler intake air is drawn in at the rear, even under extreme operating conditions.
The split carbon fibre DRS wing element – in conjunction with larger, redesigned end plates – increases downforce on the rear axle. The significantly widened rear diffuser with longer carbon fibre fins also increases downforce without increasing air resistance. The carbon fibre ‘aerodisc’ wheel covers reduce air resistance and make the perfect addition to the combination of aerodynamic components, which work seamlessly to optimise air flow and maximise overall efficiency. Overall, the downforce has been increased significantly,
without increasing drag. At 285 km/h on the track, the 911 GT3 RS with Manthey Kit produces more than 1,000 kg of downforce. This enables higher speeds on fast and mediumspeed corners and maximises vehicle stability.
Semi-active coilover suspension
The spring rates of the semi-active coilover suspension have been adjusted for the higher downforce figures. The spring rates were increased by 30 per cent on the front axle and by 15 per cent on the rear. Four wheel and three body-acceleration sensors – along with a newly developed control unit – ensure fully
automatic damper tuning that is extremely fast and even more precise than before. The new shock absorbers operate with two separate valves for the compression and rebound stages and are independently controlled. This ensures precise adjustment for changing driving situations and road conditions, which maximises stability on the racetrack. Depending on the driving mode (Normal, Sport, Track), different sets of parameters are available for different basic damper characteristics. In Track mode, the basic setup can also be manually adjusted to your personal preferences using the rotary controls on the steering wheel.
Racing brake pads specially optimised for track days
The braking components of the Manthey Kit are tailored to the requirements of driving on the racetrack. The steel-sheathed brake lines provide an even more direct pedal feel and a faster response time. Optional racing brake pads are available for cars with the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB). These pads have been specially developed for track-day use and reduce fading while also increasing responsiveness and control precision. The brake pads are characterised by consistent
performance over a wide temperature range and very good wear resistance for both the pads themselves as well as the discs.
Extensive accessories enhance individuality
Customers wishing to add more visual touches can customise their 911 GT3 RS with particularly sporty accessories. Illuminated door sill guards in carbon fibre with Manthey lettering in red and white, LED door projectors with white Manthey lettering, and decals in various colours on the carbon ‘aerodiscs’
emphasise the distinct character of the 911 GT3 RS. In addition, the Manthey lettering can be applied to the car doors in either Neodyme, white or black. A towing eye is available for when driving on the racetrack, and can be used on the front or rear. It is available in red, black or yellow and can be attached to either end using the appropriate threaded hole. It must be removed if the car is to be used on public roads.
Significantly improved performance on track
“With the Manthey Kit, the 911 GT3 RS has improved significantly on the racetrack,
especially on medium-speed corners,” says Porsche Brand Ambassador Jörg Bergmeister. “The car dives, pitches and rolls even less, offering a much more stable aerodynamic platform. The high contact pressure therefore remains very constant under all driving conditions.”
“Over a period of two years, we worked together with Porsche engineers on the new Manthey Kit for the 911 GT3 RS and tested it over several thousand kilometres on European racetracks and on the Nürburgring Nordschleife,” says Nicolas Raeder, Managing Director of Manthey Racing GmbH. “Our
data promises a significant improvement in lap times compared to the standard 911 GT3 RS. So far, weather conditions have prevented us from achieving an official lap time on the Nordschleife. We want to make up for this at the next possible opportunity.”
The Manthey Kit for the 911 GT3 RS can be ordered now. It will be available in EU markets from January 2025 and outside the EU from March 2025. The manufacturer’s warranty for the 911 GT3 RS remains unaffected. n

Presidents Day Sandown Raceway
Proudly sponsored by Famous Insurance Brokers
Sunday 17th November 2024
On arriving out to The Track at 7.00 am, the weather was a pleasant 22 degrees, the sun was out and there was no wind. What could be a better way to showcase our marque for “Passenger Lap’s” at the famous and historic Sandown venue?
After scrutiny, all 51 drivers attended “The Drivers Briefing” where the rules of the day were outlined by our fabulous officials.
• 80% lap times – don’t show off or overdrive!
• 2 wheels off the track - a stern warning will be given!
• 4 wheels off the track or a spin – miss a session or worse, see ya later for the day!
The format for the day was 4 run groups, with 6 minute sessions (which gave you a warm-up lap then about 4 flyers (@ 80%. LOL). If my maths is correct – 9 sessions were available for the day = a possible 459 Passengers and 2295 laps in total for the day. Not a bad outcome.
Back to the briefing, our newly elected President – Russell Sturzaker, gave a short warm welcome to everyone, and was then assigned one other task for the day, by our esteemed Comp Director Bill Toohey “Keep the rain away”. Well, that didn’t happen - sorry Russell lift your game! Just before lunch, our “Melbourne” weather did an about face, the temperature dropped to 15^C, first the wind,
then rain, which effected three run sessions after lunch.
But it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the Drivers or Passengers (it gave the passengers another perspective). Then about 2.00pm the sun came back out again and all was good – That’s Melbourne!
All drivers had invited family, friends and associates for the Porsche experience, in a safe track environment.
Also attending were our sponsors for the day, Famous Insurance Brokers’ (who had a great display) and were ably represented by Manager – Paul Vernall. Famous are very keen to offer you a great deal on all types of Car Insurance, particularly with their “Track Day Insurance Offering” so why not give them a call and obtain a quote on 1300 326 687, and don’t forget to say that you are from PCV.
The MD from Penske Group (Aust / NZ), Hamish Christie-Johnston, was one of our guests on the day, and was taken for a few laps with Garry Saber in his smooth Cayman, and Andrew Smith in his Cup Car. Going by the smile on Hamish’s face after his run with Andrew, I would say he enjoyed himself!
Hopefully those that had the chance to experience passenger laps now have a greater understanding of how our marque performs on Track. There were a great range of models on show, from the early “Air Cooled” to the “Modern Marvel’s” – also not forgetting “The Drivers” for their skill, and no-one misbehaved! (So I heard).
Once again a “Shout Out” to our great Track Committee for organising a fantastic day and to all our fabulous marshals and volunteers for their unrelenting dedication – Well Done.
A great day was had by all. n

PCV Spring Run: A Day of Driving, Camaraderie and Community Support
On Sunday, October 20th, the Porsche Club of Victoria held its highly anticipated Spring Run, welcoming over 70 enthusiastic attendees. The day began at BP Rockbank, where members gathered for a briefing before hitting the open road. This year’s route took participants through the picturesque landscapes of Gisborne and Mt Macedon, culminating at the CFA Kilmore for a delightful morning tea.
The Country Fire Authority (CFA) Kilmore has a long-standing history of community service and dedication. Established in 1884, CFA Kilmore has been a vital part of the local community, providing fire and emergency services for over a century. The brigade not only protects the region from fires but also engages in community education, helping residents understand fire safety and prevention measures. Rekindling our tradition, the Porsche Club made a donation to support the invaluable work of the CFA, reinforcing the bond between our community and these dedicated volunteers.
The members of the Porsche Club took a moment to capture the spirit of the day with a group photo featuring our stunning cars alongside the firetrucks—an image that beautifully encapsulated our shared passion for driving and community spirit.
After leaving CFA Kilmore, the drive continued toward our lunch destination at Sutherland Estate Winery in Dixons Creek. The route was nothing short of spectacular, winding through the charming towns of Strath Creek, Flowerdale, Kinglake, Healesville, and Yarra Glen. Each twist and turn provided breathtaking views, making the journey as enjoyable as the destination.
Upon arrival at Sutherland Estate, a family-run winery known for its welcoming atmosphere, attendees were greeted with grazing boards and a refreshing welcome drink on the deck. The picturesque setting was perfect for relaxing and enjoying the company of fellow Porsche enthusiasts.
Lunch was a culinary delight, prepared by Chefs Ryan and Sonny in the inviting cellar door. Attendees savored a delicious meal while sharing stories and laughter, further enhancing the camaraderie that defines the Porsche Club of Victoria.
To cap off the day, attendees had the opportunity to participate in a wine tasting, sampling the exquisite offerings from Sutherland Estate. The owners, Cathy and Angus generously donated three bottles of their finest wines to the club, which were raffled off among members. Congratulations to the lucky winners: Angelo Monteleone, Gunter Gschwenter and Susan Bryant!
The Porsche Club of Victoria Spring Run was a resounding success, blending the thrill of driving with the joy of community connection. From supporting CFA Kilmore to enjoying the culinary delights at Sutherland Estate, the day highlighted the best of what our club stands for—passion, camaraderie, and a commitment to giving back. As we look ahead to future events, we carry with us the memories made and the bonds strengthened on this beautiful spring day. Here’s to many more adventures on the road! n

Calder Park Sprint
After an absence of 9 years, it was time for PCV’s return to Calder Park. 2015 was probably about the time I heard a saying ‘In motorsport the only way you can make a small fortune, is to start with a large one’. I can testify to that truth, problem is I love driving, especially in a Porsche 911, and on a racetrack. To call it my happy place is an understatement, the adrenaline, focus and challenge puts a spring in my step.
I hadn’t driven at Calder before and it being a Saturday sprint, one had to be
more organised than usual. For me track preparations started early. In fact, to be honest, quite early. Looking for tips, I checked You Tube for footage. It didn’t yield a lot, a V8 Supercar race from 2001 was a start but the lines very defensive. Then the algorithm worked its magic showing grainy footage of a track record from Aaron Ireland 2015 in a 996 GT3. Excellent, I could learn the shift points, braking and throttle modulation of my class benchmark lap. Now for some practice, well virtually at least.
Loading Assetto Corsa (PC based simulator) with my favourite 2017 GT3 CUP RSR, I proceeded to write it off several times, as the limits of a new track and all the concrete walls were explored. Fortunately, in a virtual world, this doesn’t hurt at all, and I had confirmed to myself (again) that hitting the apex of all corners is really quite important. My final preparations included picking through the best of my used competition tyres (yes, I have quite the collection) and cleaning the car. Because it is basalt black, I enjoyed

the glorious 1 minute that it stayed clean before cruising to the track. With drizzle about, the first sessions were somewhat cautious and exploratory, not a bad thing on an unfamiliar track. As the day dried up, normal reception resumed with the usual suspects laying down some impressive times across the classes. I’d like to give kudos to Phil Treloar’s (#82) times in his first session of the day, on a damp track with no stability or traction control (other than himself) and on Yokohama AO50’s he had an impressive run of speed!
Entrée class had around a dozen cars including a 968 CS, 997 Turbo, 992 GTS, GT4 RS and 992 GT3 RS no less! This format is a great opportunity to share the thrills with club members that are new to track driving. Exploring the capability of their machines and themselves. If you’re track curious, entrée is a great way to start, or even just come out to a local PCV track day for a gander.
Overall, we had a great turn out with more great memories made. It’s not
every day you get to drive with Cup Cars, 992 GT3 RS’ and a legendary 996 GT2 in the field. A big thank you to all who organised and took part in the day. Finally, congratulations to those who got a podium in their class, it was a great way to wrap up the 2024 PCV Championship.
Until next time, stay on the black stuff and enjoy! n

Club Night & AGM at Porsche Centre Brighton
Tuesday 9th October 2024
Dear Fellow PCV Members, Our October Club night was not only our AGM but also our last club night for 2024 and as usual, yet another outstanding event, a sincere thank you to all involved in hosting it.
We thank Porsche Centre Brighton for their hospitality in providing the venue, we are always very grateful indeed. The caterers did a wonderful job, quite impressive, thank you for your service, it is most appreciated.
At this time every year, we listen to all the formalities surrounding the AGM, our financials, our change of guard, we thank Mel and all committee members for their exceptional service. You did a tremendous job in your role at the helm Mel, thank you.
We paid tribute to Peter Fitzgerald, may he RIP, he’ll be terribly missed, such an ambassador to the club and the sport, a sad time for all that knew him, our sincerest condolences to the family.
I personally always look forward to attending our club nights, catching up with the PCV family, such warm smiles always surrounding the room, happy faces, having a few laughs, a few drinks, a few jokes and little chats, and most importantly, being amongst the rolling art surrounding us, literally is pure art! In awe of what takes centre stage at our PCV club nights, the cars themselves. There were a few new members introduced, always nice to see a new face or two join us, our club grows from year to year, we seem to have such a streamlined process, we would certainly be the envy of many sportscar clubs in Australia.
We are blessed to be fortunate enough to enjoy ourselves and be around like-minded people who share the Porsche Passion. n

PCV Women’s Run to Lost Watering Hole Brewery
Sunday, 29 September
We kicked off the second Women’s Run of 2024 and the first as a standalone group on a rainy Sunday morning, gathering at McDonald’s in Gisborne. Our captain, Karen, warmly welcomed the group, which included Katrina, Vikki, Marissa (guest), Brenda (guest), Susan, Anna, Pernilla, and Lexie (guest). Karen provided a briefing on the run and alerted us to any potholes to avoid along the route.
The line-up of cars, featuring Arctic Silver and Agate Grey Caymans and an Arctic Silver Boxster, perfectly mirrored the foggy, grey, and wet spring day. Luckily, the two Ruby Star Boxsters added a splash of brightness to the group.
Our first leg took us on a scenic 45-minute drive around the back of Mt Macedon, where we ascended and descended the mountain, making our way through Newham, Rochford, and onto Romsey for morning tea. As we
drove up the winding, leafy village roads, we were met by thick fog, creating a beautifully atmospheric drive—albeit one shrouded in grey. Only the Ruby Stars managed to shine through the gloom – both in colour and performance.
In Romsey, we were warmly welcomed by the staff at Verdu, and the coffee by the fireplace was just what we needed after the misty drive.
Once the fog cleared, the open backroads beckoned. We hit the road again, passing through Pyalong, Hilldene, and Tooborac before looping back to Lancefield for lunch. Along the way, we enjoyed the striking views of enormous granite boulders scattered across the plains, like marbles in a halffinished game. Despite the wet conditions, it was an exhilarating 1.5-hour drive.
Lunch at the Lost Watering Hole Brewery was delightful, with a cozy atmosphere that made
for great conversation, plenty of laughter, and a chance to bond. Congratulations to our lucky dip winners, Marissa and Susan—enjoy your bubbles and red wine!
As we said our goodbyes, the sun finally made an appearance, and the drive home from Lancefield across Victoria was in sunlight, making sunglasses a necessity.
A big thank you to our Women’s Group Captain, Karen Bentley, for organizing the event and planning the perfect route. Your Google Map links were spot on—my navigator (daughter) and I could focus on the fun instead of worrying about directions. We’re already looking forward to the next adventure. Hope you can join us next time – these runs are not to be missed! n

Torque Tube Register Mornington Peninsula Tour
I arrived early at the Coolstores Moorooduc for my first Torque Tube run around the Mornington Peninsula.
Over the last 6 months I have got to know its organiser Jon Titkin who has told me about previous events and the cars that show up, so I was excited to see 924s, 944s, 968s and 928s pull into the car park, they didn’t disappoint.
Being a total petrol head, watching a black 924 Turbo rev its engine as it parked and then the raw of the V8 from a 928 felt like heaven and to make it even better the people who were driving the cars were very knowledgeable and great to talk to giving great advice.
After a coffee and a chin wag it was time for a briefing and departure. The sun put its hat on and shone as we began our route down the Nepean Highway to Mornington. As we arrived at the Esplanade people watched and smiled and probably thought to themselves ‘I remember that’!
We arrived at Arthurs Seat Road. This was the road I was waiting for, especially as I wanted to test the handling of my Porsche 968 and watch the other transaxles as they climbed around the steep corners.
It was great to see the Eagle Cable Car in its full glory on the way up to Arthurs seat.
Passing through Main Ridge on our way to Cape Schanck and Boneo Road was a good place to exercise the legs of all our cars and see other car clubs on the way.
We arrived at Flinders for the important toilet stop (refreshment), and we were joined by a Flinders resident that had a Porsche and was doing his daily shop. He was so excited and glad to see all the other Porsches in the local shop car park. Then we were on our way back up the Peninsula to Barmah Park Winery.
Alex and I were delayed (talking about 968s) so the catch up for us was on!
Sunday 22nd September 2024
I was following Alex in his splendid 968 Green convertible and the heavens opened, a quick pull over and roof up and we were off again. At this point we had lost the rest of the group so by using navigation we found our way to the winery. We arrived at the winery and were the first cars out of the group to arrive. (A wrong turn must have happened)!
The others started to arrive, and we all parked in a line next to each other, WHAT A GLORIOUS SIGHT THIS WAS.
The lunch was very good and the company even better listening to all the car stories, I can’t wait for the next Torque Tube drive. n

Wine and Food Appreciation Dinner ‘Tasmania Tour’
Thursday 5th September 2024
The Spring 2024 Wine and Food Appreciation Dinner saw a return to the RACV Club in central Melbourne. The theme for the evening was a ‘Tasmania Tour’ as we enjoyed a selection of Tasmanian wines matched with a choice of great Spring menu options.
Seating at the always on-point RACV club was changed up from the last visit, (which featured a large boardroom style table) to three large round tables which, as planned, allowed for greater interaction of the guests, and quite a few laughs along the way. The opportunity to dig deep into a great selection of local produce matched to Tasmanian wines while ensconced in one of the Club’s exclusive private dining rooms just adds to the fun of the wine and food appreciation dinners.
The evening commenced with canapés accompanied by the RACV club house sparkling wine. I should add that dietary requirements are really well met from the outset, and the Club’s staff are very attentive. The sparkling was excellent with a crisp vanilla note, and a biscuity finish. After greetings, some tall stories and banter, we were seated and Greg Burns took the floor to take us through the proceedings, after acknowledging newcomers to the dinner in standard PCV style. Greg also introduced us to the Head Sommelier Camm Whiteoak of the RACV City Club who took us through the night’s wine list - a selection from the wine regions of Tasmania.
We were introduced to the wines and were told about why Tasmanian wine is presently enjoying such success and winning awards.
A three-course meal where we were able to select dishes from a limited set menu followed, as the glasses were set for the night’s wines. As Entrées were served, the glasses were placed, and two whites were poured. The Moore’s Hill Riesling from Tamar region was bright and citrusy, and worked well with the smooth Kangaroo loin, textures of beetroot, hybrid chermoula chosen from three entrée options, and in particular, with the chermoula, which made for an exciting start.
The 2021 Sailor Seeks Horse ‘Huldufolk’ Chardonnay from the Huon Valley is a small batch white and it was worth the effort to have it present at our dinner with a bold flavour and lengthy finish. Wine like this might just make me a white drinker.
The main was a choice of pan seared coral trout, mushroom, lentils, and chestnut puree; Hazeldene’s free-range chicken, pea & leek velouté, spring onion; or Wandered sirloin 250gm, asparagus, cocktail onion, herbs emulsion. I went for the sirloin option and having it paired with Jane Eyre “Tasmania” Pinot Noir was a classic combination. The Pinot’s profile was full of red fruits, with woody and cedary notes. The wine is hand picked from a variety of Tasmanian grapes from across the island.
The Glaetzer-Dixon “Mon Père” Shiraz is a cool climate shiraz from a family heritage that goes back to the Barossa valley in the late 1800’s. Established in Tasmania in 2005, this wine also sources fruit from several areas. For our dinner, this is a perfect example of how lucky we are to have two complimentary but very different wines per course, with the shiraz working brilliantly with the sirloin, asparagus and the various side dishes.
For dessert, I went with the Eton mess, fresh strawberries compote, crème diplomat, and crispy meringue, from a choice of Coffee caramel opera; or Chocolate & earl grey, chocolate cream, hazelnut praline, earl grey ganache.
The Joseph Chromy botrytis Riesling from Launceston is a celebrated riesling and after tasting I can see why. With Joseph Chromy being of the top ten cellar doors in Australia, this rare wine was perfect for dessert, with its complex profile and long finish.
Typically for Melbourne, the Spring dinner was accompanied by a decidedly cold night, and as the last of the party exited the club and said goodbye, my eye was definitely on the invite to the next dinner. Thanks as always to Greg and Caitlin Burns for yet again pushing the bar ever higher on these nights and making every culinary journey worthwhile. n

Boxster & Cayman Register Run to Phillip Island Winery
Sunday dawned as only a Melbourne morning can – the early winds were howling, was it going to be cold and cloudy, or was that sun peeking through? Oh look, some splatters of rain. The biggest thing on Boxster drivers’ minds was “is it going to be a top down or roof closed sort of a day”.
And as it turned out, the denizens of McDonalds Pakenham got to enjoy a mixture of both, as around 20 beautifully turned-out Porsches rocked up in their parking lot. The standard German Rainbow of white, black, grey and silver was probably outweighed by a wide variety of red, ruby, blue, green and other blends, a wonderful sight to see. While the 981 and 982 (718) models were probably most represented, a number of 986 and 987 were there too, as well as a couple of gate crashers in a Cayenne and a 911.
After a coffee or two, a quick briefing took place, and we were off on our 4-waypoint journey to the first stop, in Loch. We took off with a group of 10 cars, and I had the joy of travelling behind a red Cayman GT4 CS, the mechanical rasp from which sounded wonderful on exit from any turn or traffic circle! While the
roads started out fairly straight as we left the urban area, they soon evolved into much more enjoyable fast curves and then tight twisties. The line of 10 was in its element. However, the group was cut in two with the intrusion of the words slowest driver in his Kluger, who was so pedestrian that the last 4 of us completely lost sight of the cars in front, and arrived at waypoint 2 with no idea where to go - my Google maps preloaded maps was telling me to hurry up and turn around back the way we came – so I pulled over and let those with passenger navigators work it out. After an initial wrong way, we found the right road and proceeded to try and catch up! A very fun and spirited drive ensued in the very twisty 3rd and 4th stages, with magnificent views of Gippsland’s rolling hills, before we rolled into a very busy Loch.
The group was parked haphazardly in Loch as it was pretty full, and Kirsten and I decided we’d shoot off early on the leg down to Phillip Island, and some further spirited driving ensued. I particularly enjoyed that stretch over the wooden bridge and subsequent bucolic side roads for a few kilometres. On reaching PI after an uneventful highway stretch from Grantville, we detoured down to the Penguin Parade and the Nobbies to get a pic of the cars against the bright blue water. Yes, the weather had fined up just in time for lunch – perfect! We then made our way to the winery, which was a lovely venue,
and asked the manager if we could pop all the Porsches in a long row up their front lawn. Just got this done in time as the first few were rolling in, and with a little bit of comedy as a few front splitters tried their hardest not to kiss the ground, we had a fantastic line of all the drivers in the event. What a great advertisement for the marque, so much so that we returned to find a Ford Mustang parked alongside with a For Sale sign in the windscreen – clearly the lure of owning a Porsche had tipped the driver over the edge! I’m pretty sure other visitors on the day enjoyed the viewing too, lots of kids wanting to see more, and parents taking plenty of photos of gleaming Teutonic metal in the sun.
The winery had us seated from 12-2pm at a single long table in their al fresco area. A very picturesque spot, and the grazing platters presented were excellent (even the chilli pizza eh Gary), as was the conversation with our neighbours. From what I could see and hear, it appeared that the others were enjoying it just as much. 2pm came around far too quicky, and we had to vacate the table, which signalled a mass departure as drivers went their different ways.
A fabulous day out, I’d like to thank the organisers and route planners for making it so. n

BOXSTER CAYMAN RUN to Phillip Island Winery
After a scorching day the day before, we awoke to heavy rain and a day that was thankfully a lot cooler. After meeting at McDonalds in Pakenham, Carlo gave us the necessary briefing and we were off! and whoops, at the very first direction (after exiting Mc Donalds carpark) Mark and I took the wrong turn. I might just say here that I was the driver, ie. not the navigator, and of course as it always seems to happen someone followed us. Very quickly we realised our error, did a u turn and after some exuberant driving we caught up with the group once again.
The first stage of the drive took us through Nar Nar Goon, then onto Bayles and Drouin. It was about here that I suggested to said navigator that he took a few notes to aid this report and all I managed to get was indecipherable squiggles. Apparently, this section of the road was somewhat bumpy, with the comment being, “Are you sure you haven’t connected with all the bumps? I think you missed a couple back there!” Ignoring this comment, I managed a glimpse of magnificent countryside, even in the pouring rain, with beautifully maintained properties.
Heading on towards Loch, we enjoyed some great twisty bits and again fantastic views of the undulating country with green pastures and lots of very healthy looking cattle. At the end of the first stage of the drive we arrived in Loch. A quaint little town with some quirky shops and great cafes, for a much appreciated cup of coffee.
We had been instructed to leave Loch no later than 11.00am, but whilst having a great chat with fellow drivers we realised we were 10 minutes late. Oh well, we just had to enjoy some more exuberant driving to make up time.
Once again the countryside was beautiful and after arriving at Grantville we joined the Bass Highway and drove on to San Remo and then Phillip Island. By now the rain had stopped and the sun was trying valiantly to pop through the clouds.
Driving past the Grand Prix circuit, turning left into Berrys Beach Road we arrived at the Phillip Island Winery. This is a fantastic venue with lots of easy parking, a huge undercover dining area as well as outside tables. Not to mention very friendly flies.
The 40 PCV participants were seated on one long table where we enjoyed sharing plates of antipasto, 4 types of pizzas, bowls of chips and bowls of green salad.
After having our fill (and there was plenty of left overs) we all went outside for the drawing of names and prizes of bottles of wine. Then lo and behold we discovered that there was more food - sharing plates of 3 types of desserts! I think there might have been quite a few doggie bags of these goodies.
Having been a participant of several of these events, run by brilliant volunteers of PCV, I am very grateful to these dedicated people and such a vibrant club. Thank you Carlo for a fantastic day. n

Modern 911 Register Mid Week Run to Hurstbridge
Thursday 14th November 2024 | Story by:
It was with apprehension that as a new member to the Porsche Club Victoria, that I registered for my first drive, in my new first Porsche with the hope of gaining more experience of the car and its capabilities.
The start was bright and early especially for me and some other members of our club that joined us from Geelong to meet in Templestowe at 8.15am, (thankfully the city was kind to us as traffic was quiet!). We met at Melissa’s cafe to prepare ourselves for the day, having either a delicious breakfast, coffee or one of the amazing cakes on display to build energy for the intriguing drive ahead. Close to 9am, Kon mustered the horses, (not sure how much horsepower was in attendance), from the 26 cars in attendance. A briefing of the morning ahead was provided and gentle reminders of the other drivers would also be on the road, so care and respect was requested. During the briefing, ‘Us newbies’, were introduced and made to feel part of the PCV gang, before we mounted up and headed off for a thrilling drive to our first stop at the Flying Tarts cafe in Kinglake, approximately 90 minutes later, (or for those that missed the route a little longer or shorter!).
Heading out of the comfort of Mellisa’s cafe, for me as a first timer, in my new precious pride and joy, I was woken quickly as to the tempo for the morning ahead, I really needed to dial in and focus to stay with the pack. Sadly, we were separated by traffic and leaving my co-pilot and myself to become lost after about 20 minutes. Thankfully as we were trying to gather our bearings at a bus stop, suddenly behind was a car horn followed by a train of 911s in high voice, we quickly turned to join the pack and followed the leader through some astounding scenery. The route lead

us through Kangaroo ground, followed by a short loop around Panton Hill, (not sure if this was short to be honest, this is where we became lost!!), briskly moving on through some amazing country side towards Healesville before turning towards Kinglake West.
The drive through this first stage of the outing was amazing, it became obvious early into the drive that Kon Gogos knew this area well, including the loops to add value to the trip. We experienced a mass of variety in the roads from suburban, traffic light & roundabout driving, small tight technical country lanes to larger country roads with long curving corners and thrilling straights. Upon arrival at Flying Tarts cafe, I personally was ready for the break and opportunity to talk with fellow drivers.
During this café stop in Kinglake West, it was obvious to see a camaraderie and friendships in the group that had been fostered from the mutual interest of Porsche. As we loitered in the car park, pouring over our steeds, the conversations had were welcoming and of interest to learn about each other and sharing of experienced and feelings from the first stretch of our adventure together.
Once again, brought back to the task at hand by Kon, we assumed our positions behind our respective driving wheels and headed out for the next chapter of this journey. This time, initially heading north through Flowerdale to Yea, before turning south for our final destination of Hurstbridge, passing through Glenburn and Kinglake.
Similar to the first session, the organising team had undertaken a great task to determine the 90 minutes route. Once again, we were
pulled between small tight narrow technical roads, interspersed with more flowing surfaces allowing for a more ambitious driving style, where possible! To quote my passenger, we were about 30 minutes away from Hurstbridge, and he said, ‘This road just keeps coming at you!’, he was not wrong, it was an excursion without rest or dull moment.
My take always from my first outing with the PCV gang were:
• Awesome, fun filled morning with a great group of people from any age group, everyone was great to be around! The welcome provided to the new members, was a relief and supported joining future outings.
• My personal outcome from the day regarding my experience and growth with my 992 was huge. The variation in driving conditions, road types, technicality, pace, provided me with great learnings for future drives!
• The arrangements, organisation and planning of the event, were excellent. The stops were well positioned and timely for the style of driving required in that part of Victoria. The facilities and quality of food was fantastic. I don’t think anyone went home hungry from Bridges restaurant in Hurstbridge with the generous portions provided!
To Kon, great work, your efforts were much appreciated by all. I am sure I speak for all attendees, this was a great experience to support attendance at future events. Thank you! n
MID WEEK RUN to Kyneton Ridge Estate
Wednesday 27th November 2024
This Mid Week Run run ticked all the boxes for us, a 9.30am meeting time, a cruise around the Macedon area in company with some special Porsche cars, morning tea at Malmsbury, and wine tasting and lunch at the Kyneton Ridge Estate Winery.
With all the road constructions happening in Melbourne Lisa advised attendees that diversions along the Westgate would cause delays of about 30 minutes. On the day, traffic was quite bad, I believe Clyde and others enjoyed a cook’s tour of the Sunshine area, but I think all attendees arrived in time for Natalie’s concise briefing.
The cars were outstanding, the oldest was Marc’s 1979 green SC, there were about six Boxsters, ranging from Ken’s black 2003 986 to Natalie’s silver 2024 718, also David’s blue 997.1 911, Leigh’s 2016 guards red GT4 Cayman, Nigel’s as new guards red 1989 944 Turbo, Wayne’s immaculate blue 1995 928 GTS (this car has about 391000 kms on the clock and is original), Ryan’s shark blue 2023 992 GTS, Clyde’s black 2015 Targa, and Paul’s white 997.1 GT3, a plethora of cars to be admired.
Natalie’s notes included a warning of four speed cameras, (I think there were more!) and took us up the Calder into Woodend and Tylden, then towards Daylesford for an excellent morning tea at the Malmsbury Bakery, followed by very nice Porsche friendly roads south to the lunch venue.
Everyone seemed to arrive in time for the expansive wine tasting. Owner Andrew presented a summary of the venue, including the reasons that aspect, elevation, area and sub soils are excellent for the production of wine. As the tasting continued winemaker Patrick explained the nuances of each wine. As a minimal wine drinker, I found their commentary most interesting, and from the questions and comments I am sure others felt the same way.
Lunch was simple, a tasty charcuterie of cheeses, olives, etc, followed by very nice thin based pizzas which just kept on coming out from the kitchen.
Thanks Natalie, for this enjoyable mid week run, looking forward to the next one. n

993 & 964 Register Run to Parkside Winery, Lancefield
A large group of enthusiastic club members met at the Ringwood McDonalds at 9am on a perfect Sunday morning. We all enjoyed basking in the sunshine as we watched the gleaming Porsches pull into the carpark. Stories were shared as people introduced themselves and admired the cars lined up in the sunshine.
Roger and Leanne Vella greeted us, ticked us off the attendees list and provided important information about the drive we were about to undertake. Attention was drawn to the number of pot-holes to watch out for on the drive. Armed with written instructions and Google map links we headed off, breaking into groups according to who was caught with the traffic lights.
We were familiar with the first part of the drive which allowed me as the navigator to relax and enjoy the drive. The scenery was beautiful as we headed through the rolling hills
of Kangaroo Ground towards Yarra Glen. As we came around a sharp bend on the road coming down into Yarra Glen we had to swerve quickly to avoid a large wombat which was partly across the road. Luckily everyone had good reaction times as you would not want to hit it!
After leaving the highway we wound our way through King Lake and Flowerdale avoiding the many pot-holes, until reaching our morning tea stop at Yea. The staff at Marmalades set us up in their garden and we enjoyed further chatting and coffee until Roger reminded us that lunch awaited and we needed to keep moving.
As we headed towards Lancefield the scenery eventually changed and it became dryer and rockier. It was particularly enjoyable from Tallarook to Pylong as the road was in very good condition, there was no traffic and we all spread out and enjoyed the drive.
As we neared our lunch destination, we were leading the pack and our written instructions differed from Google maps so a quick decision had to be made. I chose to follow Google maps which was wrong. It meant we travelled 2kms on a gravel road rather than 700mts. My apologies to everyone who followed us! Note to self – always go with the written notes.
We were greeted by the owners of Parkside Winery who told us about their history and enjoyed a lovely lunch in the beautiful old stables which had fabulous views. The raffle was drawn with Alex Danielsen, Carl Braybrook and Nicole Paine winning bottles of wine.
Thank you to Roger and Leanne for a great day. n

Turbo Register Run to Loch
Sunday 27th October 2024
A small but elite group of 6 Porsches set off from Berwick on what was to be an uneventful (good), extremely fast but not foolhardy (better) pace, across what has to be the truly most picturesque countryside (best) emerald green rolling hills of Victoria.
Some long straight flat sections to warm up the tyres whilst digesting our morning tea before it only got better with narrow tight turning lanes, wide open winding switch-back hairpins and finally to blow out the last cobwebs, open roads before arriving for lunch in Loch.
The weather was right in the sweat spot for the lucky three with their roofs down to enjoy the sounds of 6 flat sixes echoing collectively through the valleys.
Great memories for the 11 present to share when they meet again on the next exciting Porsche Club Victoria Run and, a big shout out to Paul and Deb for doing all the hard work ensuring the choices for morning tea and lunch were excellent and for such an exhilarating drive totally appropriate to our Porsches’ abilities. n

PCV Coffee Run to Growling Frog Golf Club
Despite having been a PCV member for nearly seven years, I have attended very few club events. With two young kids and an old house to work on, my weekend time is rarely my own. Flipping through each edition of this magazine, I often think, “It would be fun to go on one of these runs… one day…” Finally, a PCV email lands in my inbox: Coffee run to Growling Frog Golf Club. Meet at Essendon Fields at 9am - a civilized hour for this late sleeper, and not far from home. With no family obligations on the calendar, I added my name to the list, with my father-in-law Joe as navigator.
It wasn’t hard to spot the line of Porsches all parked together at Essendon Fields, and I slid my 1988 Carrera in amongst the Caymans, Macans, 997s, etc. There were only three or four of us with older air-cooled beasts. “Should be interesting trying to keep up with these folks,” I thought. We chatted with the other members, admired each other’s cars, and eventually were met by the legendary Kon Gogos. He gave us a quick tutorial on how to use Google Maps to navigate the run route, gave us all a briefing of our plans for the day, and left us with the all-important advice: “If you’re following someone, make sure they know where they’re going!”
Heading off, I waved a few modern 911s in front of me, then pulled in behind. A traffic light as we exited Essendon Fields was guaranteed to break up our fleet of 30 cars into a few smaller groups, which probably wasn’t a bad thing. Soon we headed up the Tullamarine, past Melbourne Airport, and then off onto scenic country roads. The driving was great, with very little traffic, and most road surfaces in acceptable condition. I had Google Maps directing me, with Joe checking the printed instructions as a backup. Eventually I fell back from my original group and ended up leading a few cars instead of following. Approaching Kyneton South, Google told me to take the next right, but it came up blindly over a crest. I said, “This one?” And Joe said, “No! Wait, yes!” Too late - and of course everyone behind followed me. Luckily there was a wide driveway 200m up the road. I frantically made the universal sign for “180 degree turn,” hoping the others would follow suit. Soon we were back on track, but began wondering, “What ever happened to that group that was in front of us?” We rolled into Lancefield for a short stop and seemed to be the first ones there! It turned out that everyone ahead of us missed the turn completely. “I’m glad we were following you!” someone said. Little did they know…
Kon kept us on schedule, and we were soon back on the road for another hour. Again the roads were exceptional, and I was really enjoying myself. I’ve never taken my car on a drive this long or this scenic. Finally, we arrived at our destination, and none too soon - I was hungry! The Growling Frog Golf Club is beautifully situated, and most of our group stayed for lunch. Kon was drifting around making everyone feel welcome, and we had a good chat with our table mates over a very satisfying meal. The rain held off almost completely during our drive, then moved in for the duration of our lunch. When it eased up in the mid-afternoon, most of us said our goodbyes and headed off home.
In the past I was never sure whether a run like this was something that I would enjoy. Would I be able to keep up? Would I be able to manage the navigation? Would the company be enjoyable? The answers to all of these questions turned out to be, “Yes.” If you’ve ever asked yourself the same things, I encourage you to join the next run. You won’t regret it. Thanks to Kon and everyone at the club who organizes the runs and other events. Hope to see you all on the road again soon! n

ArtNeun 2024
“Over to you ArtNeun to delight us again next year”, is how the Porsche Parade write-up of ArtNeun concluded in 2023. Well, here we are 12 months removed and ‘delighted’ we are.
All the critical ingredients of ArtNeun merged on a beautiful Sunday morning on November 10. In 2024 the wick of ArtNeun had been seriously wound up with the location being nine times larger than the previous year. The canvas of a 30,000 square metre timber yard was an irresistible backdrop to 160+ hand picked
Porsches. ATS Building Products in Braeside were immediately committed and absolutely opened themselves to the idea of this unique amalgamation of Porsche’s and industry.
From early February, site mapping and visualisation had began. As a more formal version of the inaugural event, there was a plethora of background activity to be completed. In the meantime, Porsche owners were being encouraged to register their vehicle for showing.
Themes for vehicle placement was based on car type, colour and rarity. An additional consideration was which particular Porsches would be outside or inside one of the five warehouses. “This event is created for photographers but works hard to embrace family” said Founder and Creative Director, Brendan Keenan. Keenan, also a PCV Member allowed under 14 year olds to enter for free and was equally pleased to see young children and the family dog in attendance. The addition of an ice-cream van points to that embrace of community fun.
Thirty minutes before the sun rose on event day the dedicated crew of 20 were at a final briefing. The precinct had been divided into 18 zones and from 6am was being filled left to right in a precision act with zero hiccups. A beautiful sunrise greeted content creators who were ready to photograph and video pre-placed vehicles.
By 8am vehicles were in place, the front gates were secured and the festival had begun. While five timber plinths graced the middle section, discovery and delight was around
every corner. The event works hard to balance old with new. There is no car judging and the hope is that everyone can find a vehicle they can identify with. These are the greatest two-door sports cars in the world after all and they need to be celebrated. The hope is that at some point someone will come across a vehicle at Artneun and say to themselves ‘this is what I’m going to get next’. That car does not have to be the latest version.
For nine months Keenan had been saying he was going to be bold with space. He kept
his word as the uncluttered environment enabled vehicles to be framed with timber yard architecture. Instagram is now full of ArtNeun images. Those featuring smiling faces and kids please him most. Keenan adds “These beautiful vehicles are humanised when a person is included in the shot. I just love seeing how people experience them”.
So, what of 2025? Block out Sunday 9 November. n
