Porsche Gold Coast Partner “Pop Masters”
Porsche Centre Gold Coast announced as Major Exhibition Partner for world premiere, Pop Masters.
Porsche Centre Gold Coast was pleased to announce that it is the Official Automotive Partner for the world first exhibition Pop Masters: Art from the Mugrabi Collection, New York.
Contemporary cultural precinct HOTA, Home of the Arts on the Gold Coast presents a world premiere exhibition, Pop Masters: Art from the Mugrabi Collection, New York opening 18 February 2023. Drawn entirely from the famed private collection of one of the world’s most prominent art collectors, Jose Mugrabi, the blockbuster exhibition celebrates the origins and on-going legacy of Pop Art.
The exhibition will spotlight works by legends of the 1970’s and 80’s scene Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring in conversation with contemporary artists at the forefront of the genre today. Over 10 works by the pioneer of Pop Art Andy Warhol will introduce visitors to the exhibition, including iconic portraits such as Sixteen Jackies (1964) and his deeply personal painting, Cross (1982).
Recognising the connections between Pop Art and Street Art, works from Keith Haring include one of his earliest works from 1979 alongside Untitled (Dancing Dogs). Shining a light on one of the late 20th century’s most important artists Jean-Michel Basquiat, works include the iconic painting New York, New York (1981) and a collaboration between Warhol and Basquiat.
Contemporary highlights on display include works by KAWS including the 2.8 metre tall sculpture What Party (2018), and If it sees, blind it, a section from Barbara Kruger’s famed 2009 installation Between being born and dying which transformed the foyer of New York’s famed Lever House. The partnership with Porsche Centre Gold Coast and Pop Masters highlights the shared values of craftsmanship, individuality, precision, and passion. Porsche doesn’t just build state-of-the-art cars, they’re meaningful. Pop Art, which draws inspiration from popular and commercial culture, takes on a life of its own. It’s constantly evolving yet drawing on past inspiration. Porsche is also continually moving forward, stretching the boundaries whilst also reflecting on its past.
“Pop Art is a movement that challenges the traditions of fine art. It redefined the traditional parameters of what constitutes art and what it means to be an artist. These distinctive characteristics align so well with Porsche, who continue to push the boundaries, invent new technologies and are committed to continual improvement. Porsche is a company that is not afraid to tread its own path.” – Damien Holley, Dealer Principal, Porsche Centre Gold Coast
