ROOMS is a partnership between the young Georgian designers Nata Janberidze and Keti Toloraia, who became friends while studying at the Tbilisi Academy of Art. Recently, they have acquired a new partner Baia Davitaia. They all believe that design needs to think globally while acting locally. ROOMS intends to create inventive, catchy, playful, ironic, distinctive designs. ROOMS is not a follower of any particular style; designers think that design cannot be described by a dogma. On the contrary, designs come about though the situation, product and consumer-oriented design process which exists somewhere between the method and the magic. Collaboration and experimentation are key factors to the ROOMS creative practice. Year 2009 opens up new possibilities and perspectives. ROOMS looks for producers, retailers and manufacturers around the world. ROOMS clients are shops, restaurants, hotels, architects and individual consumers. Bespoke and commissions service are accepted to create individually specified designs.

METAL LAMP SURROGATE The ‘Position lamp’ by ROOMS is available as a wall lamp, table lamp, or suspension lamp. The Position lamp, a perfectly crafted wooden delight. The wooden light is based upon the classic metal desk lamp, It can be adjusted through a system of spring balancing and provides a direct light. The Position lamp will be developed into three versions: a table light, a wall hung light and a suspended model.

In our childhood, we used to play dolls in the “Soviet inetriors” where “design” was the same almost for everybody, from the layout of flats to the furniture and objects. Collected antiquities and goods of the Socialist countries made the only difference in the interiors of wealthy families. In 1991, Georgia became an independent country. Borders opened up… Time passed… We, reminiscent of the form, colour and fabrique of furniture once being the standard, enjoy that, as we are free now. “Game Over”, 2009 collection of ROOMS, reflects our emotions related to our childhood. Now you see the layers of history vanished from the sight.
