Legend of the Prophets He lived on the island in the 16th century, in a desolate place of the northern part, a hermit and wild pastor who had few relations with the rest of the inhabitants was known to be fierce or brave. With the mystery surrounding his life, he was passed by a prophet inspired by the Holy Spirit, who guided his footsteps and dictated the words. One night he came down to the village, bringing a bell and stirred up the people who ran from all sides to see what was going on. The Holy Spirit occupied the soul of the Prophet "Jonathan Nunes" by sending him to publicly unravel the faults and the secret guilt of everyone. The people were left to be taken by the pastor, such atrocities were happening. Until one day three inhabitants of the island who did not believe in the words of the prophet, went to Machico to ask the authorities for help. The pastor was arrested along with his niece Filipa, who was also involved, being sent to the court of El-Rei. They were condemned to be at the door of the cathedral of Évora during the mass of Tuesday, with candles lit in the hand and large signs where it was written: "Prophets of the Holy port". The people of Porto Santo are nicknamed "Prophet", even in today's days, due to this ludicrous situation.
