NOTE FROM THE PUBLISHER:

(Photo: the Publisher’s Book of Poetry and Short Stories)

I am glad you came here for the fall / winter magazine! Which is the last issue for the year 2015; can’t believe next year around this time we will be voting for a new President. Although this issue is quite late going online, for which I sincerely apologize, it is because of all I have going on in my personal and professional life— In my personal life I have upcoming neck & back surgeries after 22+ years walking around with major internal injuries due to accidental falls—1st down a flight of stairs, 2nd in my garage; my husband almost died at the beginning of August (thanks to your prayers, he lived and is thriving now—even gaining back a lot of weight he had lost while ill (thank you, Lord). Soon I will upload photos for you to see for yourselves how well hubby’s doing now; In my professional life I have been writing a lot in my upcoming novel, ‘Escape & Redemption,’ my first crime fiction story; I have also been loving the royalty sales I am receiving for my current book, ‘Mirrored Images,’ even more since Author & Cover Designer DEBI DE SANTIS STABENE re-designed my book’s front cover and back (see photo above of NEW cover & back); and reading, loving, and reviewing novels by other authors who were on my TBR list. Even I’ll admit, that is a lot on anyone’s plate! But I can do it. So can you if you are a writer and truly want to be a successful one. Read. Read. Read. Then Write. Write. Write. Edit. Edit. And Edit Some 3 | The Cat’s Meow for Writers & Readers Magazine October-December 2015

More before Giving to A professional Editor for Publication. Also set boundaries with family and friends while you’re writing—no distractions allowed! Find a private space away from family, put a sign on the door (if there’s a door to your private place) saying: “Do Not Disturb While I Am Creating!” then shut that door and write to your heart’s content. I’d also like to say that with the holidays approaching—especially Thanksgiving—I feel that Thanksgiving should not only be an American holiday—it should be a day where ALL give thanks for what we do have (not what we don’t have). How ‘bout making this holiday worldwide?! Write to your representatives if you would like Thanksgiving to become a holiday for ALL. Now on to the last issue of this year… there are lots of delightful short stories in this magazine. Unfortunately I have not received any nonfiction helpful articles lately, so there are none published in the last issue of the year for which I apologize. But there are also pleasingly gratifying and deeply emotional poetry by my many contributors, and the book authors and literary journals in the ‘Off The Press! Cat-astrophe of a Relationship ©Eric Moseley I LOVE PETS SO MUCH TO THE POINT THAT I ONCE GAVE UP ON A relationship with a woman named Terri who I truly cared for and still care for to this very day. I met her online and she and I hit it off just fine. After hours of conversations over the phone, I decided to relocate to her neck of the woods which was in The Bronx, New York, where I had once lived. I arrived in The Big Apple on a warm spring afternoon. After being there for several weeks, I paid Terri a visit. She and I hit it off real well and it seemed as if we were a match made in Heaven. Terri was single at the time and so was I. I didn't feel as if she was single because it appeared as if she was being controlled by her cat named Smokey... if you know what I mean. Terri had two cats but this female cat named Smokey seemed to be the head of the household by having her way with everything. Before I met Terri and during the whole time I had known her she would give in to Smokey progressively. Because of that, Smokey and I immediately began to have a serious conflict. I'm the type of person who believes highly in the phrase "Live and let live." Meaning: one should know their place in life rather than you’re human or pet. Smokey was the type of cat that demanded attention from any and everyone who came in her pass. She didn't want Terri to pay attention to anything or anyone except for her. She wouldn't even lay around Terri unless she was being petted constantly. Where ever Terri went, Smokey made sure she was front and center to get attention. Terri once admitted that Smokey had a problem but didn't like to talk much about it. Through it all, I still soon after found myself moving in with her. Smokey soon after found out that I wouldn't spoil her even more then what she was. Smokey had Terri rapped around her finger as if 15 | The Cat’s Meow for Writers & Readers Magazine October-December 2015

she was the head of household. It did upset Terri that Smokey and I didn't get along but she seemed to do whatever it took to satisfy the cat. I used to tell her that the cat treats her like a dog by making her cater to her every demand. When Smokey couldn't have her way, she then started hiding under the table for days at a time and would also stop eating. I knew it was because of the fact that I was a new person taking up some of the time that she used to get. I truly believe that no animal should ever demand that you pay them and only them attention. Smokey didn't only have a problem with me as a human threat but she also hated the fact that Terri payed attention to her other cat Patches. Patches was a black and white female cat that was as easy as Sunday morning. She didn't mind that Terri had gotten into a relationship with me because she was such a laid back cat that just appreciated the time that anyone would spend with her. On the other hand, Smokey and I grew more and more distant each and every day which caused a big problem for Terri and I. Together we were in a relationship so smooth that not once had we had an argument for any other reason except for Smokey. For that reason, I left Terri three times and came back to her twice. Each time it was the exact same thing. Everyone was in an uncomfortable situation. I realized just how much Terri cared for the cat and how much it was hurting her for me and the cat to have conflict on that level. It still hurts me to this day when I think about it. It hurt me so bad that I definitely wouldn't want this to ever happen to anyone else. Because of that, I have written an eBook titled ‘How to Train your Cat to Not Control You like a Dog.’ The cover is being updated for corrections: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015VETEJ2? *Version*=1&*entries*=0 Copyright © September 28, 2015 Eric Moseley. 16 | The Cat’s Meow for Writers & Readers Magazine October-December 2015

True Colors ©Joseph J. Mazzella Author of “Walking the Path of Love” and “A Journey of Love”

TO ME FALL WILL ALWAYS BE THE MOST SPECTACULAR OF THE seasons. By the end of summer the bright, green buds that gave the promise of new life in the early spring have turned into dark green leaves. Having grown all they can, they are content to just exist; sleepy and satisfied. Then one day a single leaf begins to change and release its true colors hidden within. As the cool night gives way to a warm morning this single leaf turns a brilliant red that stands out beautifully in the sea of green. Soon other leaves join it—lighting up the Maple trees with their red radiance. Golds begin to appear too in all their glory. Other leaves decide to become yellow and shine like little suns in the daylight. Still others glow orange and flutter in the autumn breezes. Some leaves even decide to become unique combinations of all of these colors. As the weeks pass deep, rich burgundies and earthy browns appear on the Oaks as well until the mountains of my home are a cascade of colors that delight the heart and uplift the soul. Even after they fall to the ground the season is still not over because now there is a colorful, crunchy carpet for the children to run and play on. And when the cold days of winter finally cover these leaves in snow they still continue on nourishing the soil to provide new life to the next generation of leaves and thus completing their part in God’s glorious creation. We all should follow these leaves’ example and allow our own true 18 | The Cat’s Meow for Writers & Readers Magazine October-December 2015

colors to shine through. We all have a unique brightness within. We all have a love and light that we are supposed to share. We all are meant to take our place in God’s loving plan. Share your true colors then. Let your love, laughter, kindness and joy brighten the souls of everyone around you. Make your life both a brilliant autumn and an eternal spring. Why Are We Here? ©Joseph J. Mazzella Author of “Walking the Path of Love” and “A Journey of Love” WHEN I WAS A BOY WE LIVED 4 MILES FROM TOWN AND MOST OF my friends. As a result I ended up playing by myself a lot. I didn’t mind the solitude, however. I enjoyed riding my bike for hours, swimming in the river, and taking long walks in the woods. It felt good being alone with my own thoughts and my own imagination. Sometimes I even pondered a few of the big questions we all have. I would think, “What is this world all about?”, “What is the meaning of life?”, and “Why are we here?” I never could think of a good answer, though, and soon went back to playing again. It took me many years and a lot of searching to find the answer I was seeking and when I did it was so simple that I almost didn’t believe it. The answer is LOVE. It always has been and it always will be. The rest is just details. Our Heavenly Father loves us all so much and He put us here to love as well. We are here to choose love. We are here to share love. We are here to learn of love. We are here to grow in love. We are here to pray for love. We are here to delight in love. We are here to become one with Our Heavenly Father’s Love. We are here to complete our missions in love and to help others to complete theirs. We are here to fill ourselves full to overflowing with the Love that created and maintains the universe. We are here to love Our Creator. We are here to love ourselves. We are here to love everyone as ourselves. We are here to find our own special ways of sharing all the love that is within us. It is our gift to God and our answer to life. And even if we haven’t done the best job of it up until now, each new day gives us another chance. When the big questions of life leave you lost then, don’t give up. Just love. The answers will come to you, if not in this life then in the next. Always remember that “God is Love” and that when you love you 20 | The Cat’s Meow for Writers & Readers Magazine October-December 2015

will grow closer to God, Heaven, and your true self. Copyright © September 7, 2015 Joseph J. Mazzella.

The End of Something ©Don Crawford HE SEEMED PRE-OCCUPIED, AGAIN. NOT WITH ANYTHING SHE could decipher but with something deep inside himself. When he was like that he reminded her of Rodin's Thinker come to life. To Lisa, he nearly always seemed to be pre-occupied and this created within her some feelings of conflict and resentment, and she felt neglected. In any other relationship she would have spoken up about it but with Chad she fell silent. He was not like that. If she had, he would listen in silence and say something like, “You feel better now?” She knew he loved her and she loved him but she wanted more of his time and attention. Once, when she asked him about these long inner silences his only response was, “I’m self-studying; it’s a sort of wakefulness.” She had trouble understanding the meaning of those words but he never added anything to those terse comments. He was standing slightly bent over on the balcony, his graceful hands hugging the wrought iron railing, deep in thought; those magic hands that caressed her whole naked body when they made love. She was sitting at the vanity brushing her short yellow curls. Her lips were moist from the new application of lipstick, and as she glanced toward him, he glanced back. For an instant, just for an instant, their eyes locked together; then parted. She tried hard to read what he was thinking, but it was no use. To her he had always been an enigma, except for those precious moments when their naked bodies were intertwined in bed and his mouth smothered hers in long, intense and unforgettably moistened kisses. How often she lied in bed and flooded her mind with those desirable images of his strong arms embracing her willing body; wishing such moments would never end. The rap on the door of their hotel room was the waiter bringing 22 | The Cat’s Meow for Writers & Readers Magazine October-December 2015

their ordered lunch. They had been staying at the Glen Eden Inn for two days, and were scheduled to return to Oakland in another three days. Glen Eden, just outside Napa, was a place made famous by Jack London who had lived there many years ago. Chad was a writer and had chosen her short vacation time there to try and absorb what he called the “essence of the deceased writer.” She had read one of London’s stories set in Alaska and couldn’t grasp the reason for his fame. She liked tales with big city locations and real characters darting in and out of the story. She supposed Chad’s interest in Jack London was the isolation of his settings and the aloneness of the characters, which seemed to match his own aloneness even when they were together; but fortunately not all the time. Despite her inner conflicts, this relationship was the most sensually fulfilling of any she’d had. He could be the most sensitive and loving man when they were in bed. None of the other half dozen or so men she’d been with came close to what Chad provided her, and most times she felt the neglect of being with him was minimal enough for the rewards. She hated the thought of their ever breaking up and wanted to make it last forever. Lunch was simple fare with the main dish steamed mixed vegetables and cornbread with butter, coffee with cream and apple cobbler for desert. He was practicing vegetarianism and since it suited her current diet she had joined him lately in his choice of meals. There were times however when a juicy steak would have tasted better to her. The first day after arriving in Glen Eden they had visited a couple of local wineries and enjoyed what the tasting rooms had to offer. She knew he seldom drank any kind of alcoholic beverages but she enjoyed them, especially at dinner when he drank only coffee, his favorite beverage. The fact they could readily accommodate each other’s differences was a boon for her in this short term relationship where open conflict 23 | The Cat’s Meow for Writers & Readers Magazine October-December 2015

had never once occurred. Nearly all her other relationships were conflict-ridden since she was a woman with a strong will, which these men resented since they couldn’t exercise the degree of control over her they wanted. Chad was easily satisfied with an equal relationship and this was one of the main attractions for her. In their two months together they had never had a fight. When any doubtful issues arose they talked them out mildly, like mature adults, and always focused on the issues and not on personalities or the use of personal criticisms. Chad had taught her that. She had never known such a relationship could exist, since her own family of origin was almost endless discord. To say it was a dysfunctional family would be putting it mildly. Chad was orphaned at fifteen and he and his two year older brother had raised themselves; financed by both working at a local newspaper. They had avoided social workers and foster homes by “blackmailing” the next door barber who always signed their dead daddy’s signature whenever one was needed. The barber had a fat wife and six children and cheated in his shop after closing, which Chad and his brother were aware of. Since they kept to themselves as much as possible, only a couple of people knew their father had died of a heart attack months before while an inpatient in a veteran’s hospital in Little Rock where he had gone for a hernia operation. After lunch, Chad suggested they walk around the area and work off the meal. It was a warm spring day with just enough breezes to slightly stir the leaves on the trees as they passed underneath them. Lisa had readily agreed, wanting to have him for herself for a while. “I noticed you reading a Hemingway book last night while I was in the shower. Do you also like him, and which do you like better, Papa or Jack London? “ “Oh, Hemingway is a good writer all right. His short stories don’t really follow the usual fixed format for short stories. What makes them good are the descriptive narratives and expositions, with some good character dialogues, but as far as creating something the character wants and then putting obstacles in his path which lead to conflict and drama, they don’t follow. His major motif I’ve read was ‘enduring.’ By 24 | The Cat’s Meow for Writers & Readers Magazine October-December 2015

endurance, I assume he meant to live and avoid dying, which also applied to his writings, which is meaningless if life is without a definite goal.” “What you’re saying is interesting; please go on. I’ve never heard such comments about Hemingway before.” “He was strictly a materialist, with a materialistic world view and wrote with very little understanding of the spiritual essence in man. And, although being sick and perhaps a little off base in the end, he violated one of the basic spiritual tenets by volunteering to end the life that was given to him by his creator. The ending of life is supposed to be at the Will of our creator and not one of our free wills.” “What do you mean by being a materialist?” “Have you heard that story about the blind man grabbing the tail of an elephant and trying to describe the whole elephant by the tail? A materialist is one who perceives this lowest level of our solar system as all there is, and fails to appreciate the vast wholeness of life and existence. There is much more to life than just this materialistic plane; a lot more.” “Surprisingly, after all this time together we’ve never discussed religion or spirituality. Do you have a definite faith or religion?” She turned to look directly into his deep blue eyes. “No religion. If anything, I have a fondness for Eastern esoteric philosophy; sometimes called the Ancient Wisdom, which I’ve read something about.” “Is that where you picked up your comment on wakefulness and self-study?” They had walked within a few blocks of Napa State Hospital for the Mentally Ill and Developmentally Disabled. One of Chad’s college friends, he’d told her, had been placed there after suffering a mental breakdown just weeks before receiving his Master’s Degree from Berkeley. Chad had no idea when if ever he would be getting discharged. “You’re a pretty perceptive young lady to make that connection.” She grinned, since he was only two years older than she. “What is your opinion on Reincarnation and Karma?” “Wow! Where did that come from? We’ve never discussed such topics before. But, since you’ve asked, I don’t believe in them. I’ve been raised a Christian, although I’m a poor practitioner of it.” A car honked loudly as another car cut to close in front of it. It startled them and they twisted their heads in unison to observe. As the horn subsided the twitting of the tree-filled birds absorbed the sound. “Have you ever read any literature about them?” “No, and they don’t hold any interest for me. I have my own world view and I adhere pretty closely to that. So can we change the subject?” She sensed Chad had a negative reaction to her last comment. “Really? The very mention of them upsets you? I didn’t know you were so closed minded and prejudice against things you do not understand.” She stopped and stared at him. They were standing under an enormous elm tree. The leaves made a quiet whistling sound. “I guess we are having our first real conflict, but you should know a person’s beliefs are rather a touchy subject. One should never argue about religion or one’s philosophy since it is a personal thing.” “I agree with you. I guess we should drop the subject, okay?” “Fine with me. You’re the one who brought it up.” “I was just sending out a feeler is all, and now I know not to bring it up again.”

They walked in silence back toward the cabins. A few dark clouds began to form on the horizon and she wondered if they were going to get some rain. Chad’s silence was noticeable and Lisa was slightly alarmed by his change in attitude, especially towards her after their conversation. She hoped she could make things better once they got back to their room by seducing him. She really loved Chad, or thought she did, and hated the idea their relationship could end. Once back in the room, Chad was very thoughtful and immediately returned to the balcony, ignoring Lisa’s efforts to get him into bed. Reluctantly, she picked up the Hemingway book, which was a collection of some short stories and some excerpts of his novels. She tried to read but found him dismaying. She guessed one had to be in a certain mood to really appreciate his style of writing. Finally, she lied on the bed and soon became drowsy. She slowly drifted into sleep. She awoke violently, having had an ugly nightmare. Her sudden awakening alerted Chad and he rushed to her side. “Hey, honey, are you okay? Did you have a nightmare?” She threw her arms around him and pulled him close to her. “Oh, Chad, it was awful. I dreamed I’d lost you after a terrible fight. It came close to blows and for the first time, you words were harsh and bitter and you were shoving me away from you, as if I was something despicable to you. I couldn’t stand it.” “Well, it was only a bad dream. I’m here and I’m not going anywhere and we can always talk out any problems which arise between us. For example, I’m aware that my self-study is not to your liking but it is just a part of me and something I think is very important. I’ll try to be together more, okay?” “Oh, honey, I didn’t even know you were aware of how that affects me.” “I know you, Lisa, and I love you. Honestly, I’ll try harder. But to be honest with you, I did sort of hope you would be more open to 27 | The Cat’s Meow for Writers & Readers Magazine October-December 2015

considering some of the wisdom philosophy since it is so important to your future. And, you must know no one can live through another person. We are each an individual and must live our own existence. At best, we can only share time and space with another person, and something of their thoughts and feelings. And, it is not so easy to find another person who can share the same world view, unless both are materialists, which I now suspect you to be. Mine world view is obviously quite different from yours. Eastern philosophy is much more spiritualistic than religious and their truths come from sources above the human level.” “You are saying your wisdom philosophy is important for me? I don’t understand. It seems important to you but why me? And, I remember you called Hemingway a materialist. What does that mean exactly? Oh, I remember; a narrow sighted person who describes the elephant erroneously.” “I’m not so sure we should be having this discussion. But, since I’ve labeled you as one I’ll try to explain. Obviously, we live in what appears to us a physical, materialistic world. Our every sense tells us so. That is how we define ourselves and the many physical objects in our environment. In the Orient, they believe that all is energy, including human entities, and that to perceive of existence only in terms of a material world is merely illusion; what they all maya, or illusion. For them, there are many levels of consciousness beyond this physical plane of our solar system. This is only the lowest level of consciousness of all, and they strive to perceive a greater whole of which we are only a small part. Wakefulness and self-study are a means to going beyond what we think we are to a realization of who we truly are. It is in effect a way of grasping more of the truth of life and existence. Do you think that is important for you as well as me?” “I think what is important is for each person to find the truth for him or herself.” “Yes, I agree with that, except we all need a little help doing that. We usually look outside ourselves for some source of guidance. In the west, we turn to religion. In the east they turn inward and seek self28 | The Cat’s Meow for Writers & Readers Magazine October-December 2015

knowledge and self-awareness as the way to truly know you, as the Oracle of the Delphi advocated in olden times. To know you is the first stage in gaining true wisdom. And, wakefulness and self-study are the means to achieving that goal. But, I admit it does interfere with human relationships and seems like a person doing it is very selfish and selfcentered. In our case, you feel somewhat neglected, since most women need to be the center of a man’s attention.”

“You make me sound very selfish. Do you think that I am?” “You have the usual needs of most women who live though their man because they give of themselves completely to a relationship; body and soul.” “I want you to know I resent that inference. Just because I love you does not mean I only live to be with you. I do have a life of my own, you know. And, my work at the bank is an important part of my life. In fact, that is how we met if you remember.” “Honey, come on, let’s not argue about any of this. We love each other and that should be enough glue to hold us together if we don’t spoil it by words.” “I know what you really want from me. You want a woman to accept your spiritual philosophy and disregard everything she’s ever been taught all her life. You think that is easy to do? And, don’t you think I have a right to my own beliefs?” “Of course you do, honey. I knew we shouldn’t have this conversation. It is only driving a wedge between us, so let’s drop it all together, okay?” “You brought it up. If anyone is to blame for this disagreement, it is you and not me.” “You’re just being defensive, and protecting your ego.”

29 | The Cat’s Meow for Writers & Readers Magazine October-December 2015

“Do you really think I live through you? You are very much mistaken if that’s what you think. I don’t really need you. I just want you, and there is a big difference there.” “Yes, dear.” “Now you are being patronizing. Damn it, I’m getting a headache. Leave me alone so I can go back to sleep. I just hope I don’t have any more nightmares.” “Oh course, darling. Have a good sleep.” He arose from her side and went back to the balcony.

***** That night they went out to dinner in Napa and neither mentioned their conversation of the afternoon. They engaged in small talk, and about her job at the bank, where she was a loan officer. As the evening grew on, Chad became more withdrawn and silent. Lisa felt more resentment than ever before and kept silent at well, mostly to spite him. Back at the cabin, they decided to cut their vacation short and return to Oakland. They packed with little exchange of comments, checked out, and on the trip home focused their attention on the car radio and the music on the short drive back to Oakland. They were deliberately avoiding each other and neither one wanted to be the one to break the impasse. For the first time since they met, Lisa was glad they had decided not to move in together, although she had brought it up several times, which Chad had delayed with one excuse or another. He had told her he needed his aloneness in order to write. He left her at the door to her apartment, and waved as he drove off. They hadn’t kissed goodbye. She said she’d call him “tomorrow.” He only nodded.

30 | The Cat’s Meow for Writers & Readers Magazine October-December 2015

Several days went by and Chad had not called her. When she called his number, she was given the usual message; he wasn’t available and to call back late. She grew more frustrated and even openly angry as the time passed.

Finally, after about a week, he called her one evening. She grabbed up the phone, not sure what to say. Should she berate him for his negligence or beg for him to come over? She said, “Hello,” and waited for his response. “Lisa, I’m calling to tell you goodbye, and that it’s over between us. The brutal truth is that I have chosen my philosophy over our relationship, because it is so much more important in the long run. I don’t expect you to understand, but for your own future welfare would you try to read something of the Ancient Wisdom and plant some spiritual seeds? Look up Theosophical Society on the Internet. You may find it a hard statement, but the strict materialist, no matter how socially successful, has lived a wasted life. I want to wish you true happiness, and a fulfilling life. I will always cherish the time we had together. If it is any consolation I will not be dating again. It is unfair to any woman. So you’ll be the last woman that fills my memories of a loving relationship. Goodbye, Lisa.” Copyright © August 8, 2015 Don Crawford.

writing debut with ‘Absolutely the Last Resort,’ a charming and nostalgic family-oriented book, which fictionalizes many of

the

author’s personal experiences owning a resort with her husband, brother, sister and parents in the Catskill Mountains of New York for over 30 years. That resort was called ‘The Jolly House.’ That book reflected just one aspect of the author’s life and creative talents, and introduced us to her artistic and comedic nature in life. She had a writing style that is both entertaining and uplifting which reflected Rose Anna’s true writing persona; yet she proved the versatility of her literary scope with her second novel, ‘Where Are You?,’ which offers a serious, dramatic and paranormal-love storyline, and her third novel, ‘But! I’ve Always Loved You.’ RIP author, artist and Rosanne Catalano’s cousin, Rose Anna Schoene (aka Rose Anna Infranco); Born Mar 1, 1925 – Died October 17, 2014. You will never be forgotten. There’s a cliché that states one should not date their best friend. Whatever the reasons, the fear of losing a friendship or not finding true love; most use this cliché as a golden rule. Six friends from McKinley High reunite for their ten year class reunion. The group was put on a pedestal, both Dante Jefferson and Kalliah Carter were voted ‘most likely to succeed’; Stephon Drake was voted ‘most athletic'; Miles Baker was the President of the Student Body; Cherese Taylor was the captain of the Cheerleading Squad; and 80 | The Cat’s Meow for Writers & Readers Magazine October-December 2015

Brianne Gibson was in the National Honor Society. The memories of their past include deep rooted issues they avoided during those years of mixed experiences. Their class reunion promises to fulfill Kalliah’s need for a vacation from her job and a shaky romance, while Dante needs to explore the remnants of

their

relationship before making a serious commitment to another. Stephon must take his life back from the street and crime he’s become addicted to. Miles is hoping to finally tell his friends how one of them has held his heart for more than ten years. Cherese needs the support of her friends as she struggles to find her way out of a destructive marriage. Brianne must disclose her horrible high school encounter that would change how they all feel about her and those they are now connected and committed to. MIRRORED IMAGES

103 | The Cat’s Meow for Writers & Readers Magazine October-December 2015

Author, Founder and Publisher ROSANNE CATALANO (RC KAYLA), is pleased to introduce her book Mirrored Images, which is a quick read at 98 pages! It is a book containing the author’s collection of short stories and poems (some fiction, some fact) written for your reading enjoyment and for those who love guessing games! “Mirrored Images” by Rosanne Catalano begins with a poem about, and dedication to, her late father and still-living-mother and goes into a short story about an experience with bullying in the eighth grade of school to being saved by a guardian angel when the story character was in her mid-30’s. An interesting read in which you, the reader, may want to guess which of her stories are fact or fiction… Reviews for ‘Mirrored Images’ by Rosanne Catalano: ***** “I purchased a copy of Rosanne Catalano’s book, Mirrored Images, and this short collection of short stories (you will have to try real hard to decide which are fact or fiction), articles and poetry, both touched my heart and made me smile. Rosanne’s book Mirrored Images is truly a great read! It touched me because of the love shown for her parents, God, and her husband. It touched me because I was the kid with glasses who was bullied and picked on and I could feel Rosanne's pain when it happened to her. It touched me because I have lost my parents and her tribute to her father, and mother, brought back all of the good times and love I had with/for my own parents. It touched me because Rosanne, as I feel so many of us are but never put it into words so eloquently, is a survivor. I believe we all have guardian angels and Mirrored Images proves it to all who will listen. No one but angels could have saved her from bullies in junior high school, have looked over her until she found the perfect mate, and still guide her to this day in her writing craft. These are stories we should not only want to read, enjoy reading, but they are stories we all need to hear. I get a glimpse of the love and courage that Rosanne shows, and shares, in her magazine--and our most welcome online correspondence. Rosanne is writing a continuation of Mirrored Images 104 | The Cat’s Meow for Writers & Readers Magazine October-December 2015

titled Escape and Redemption. I can't wait to read that! But first, my readers, you must read Mirrored Images.” --Barbara Deming; Author, Writing Instructor, Publisher, and Blogger. ***** “I read Rosanne Catalano’s book Mirrored Images and I love it!!! She had somewhat of a hard life in some areas and a good one in others. The author had a lot of heartache, with the loss of friends early in her life, and the ridicule and horrendous behaviors of other kids when she was in junior high school. Though it sounds like she had a most wonderful Dad and Grandmother too; her grandmother reminded me so much of my own Grandmother who passed away last year! I enjoyed very much reading all of her different short stories and the poems she included. I really loved reading about her little cheese episode in ‘Christmas With Grandma,’ and her little sneaky trek to the store thinking she could hurriedly fix what she had EATEN…LOL!!!! I LOVED IT--------- And I can still see Rosanne so clearly eating all of the cheese!!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO ROSANNE CATALANO all the way around! I will get her next book soon...I like this book’s title by the way, and the picture of Rosanne on the back cover; she looks so relaxed.” --Sandra L Hoynacki; Author, Poet and retired-Nurse. By Mark Rubinstein on Sept 19, 2014: ***** “I read Mirrored Images by Rosanne Catalano in two sittings. This is an intriguing collection of short stories (10 in all) spearheaded by a lovely poem. In my mind, they are all loosely interconnected, and the author invites the reader to guess which of the stories is true and which is false. To my way of thinking, they are all products of the author's vivid imagination, mixed with elements of true life, as is the case for any author in virtually any fictional genre. Where true life leaves off and fiction begins is always, at best, murky guesswork. The important thing is that Ms. Catalano writes beautifully. I was captured by her prose, and am waiting eagerly for her forthcoming tale, which will be a crime novel. Mirrored Images gets five well-deserved stars.” --Mark Rubinstein; Crime Fiction & Nonfiction Author and Psychologist **** “Rosanne Catalano’s book, Mirrored Images, was a delightful 105 | The Cat’s Meow for Writers & Readers Magazine October-December 2015

read! I LOVED IT!!!! IF the abuse at school and all was about her, Rosanne has become a beautiful person and woman. I'm so glad she now has a wonderful spouse and her life is filled with love.” --Carol Dee Meeks; Writer and Poet. Rosanne Catalano’s next book, Escape and Redemption, will be a continuation of Mirrored Images—which will start off where her last story “Bags to Riches” left off—only as a crime fiction novel rather than a collection of her poetry and short stories. She will be writing as “RC Kayla,” her pen name.

Escape & Redemption by RC Kayla Coming Soon! Synopsis of Escape & Redemption: Rachelle Norris is escaping a painful past. She lands in the State of Delaware and meets Marie Glück, a homeless woman whom Rachelle saves from dying of a heart attack; changing Marie Glück’s life forever.
