Centennial Capital Campaign

With a rich, nearly one-hundred year history of educating students with rigorous academics in the Dominican tradition, Rosarian Academy is investing in its next one hundred years through a multi-phase campus renovation

Honoring Rosarian Academy’s Past and Embracing its Future

Dominican Sisters opened St. Ann-on-the-Lake Academy, a boarding school for girls Until 1927 the campus extended to the water’s edge, until the city of West Palm Beach paid Rosarian Academy $1,650 for a sixty-foot right of way to build Flagler Drive

Donated by generous benefactors, Col and Mrs Bradley, the new Bradley Hall housed girls from out of the area to attend St Ann’s Despite the setback of a devastating hurricane in 1928, leaving Bradley Hall damaged, the school persevered and continued to grow By the mid1930s, the building had been repaired, used for classes and boarders Shortly after, the school began welcoming boys as day students

In 1939, the school's name was changed to Rosarian, honoring the mother of the significant Benefactor, Ann Bradley.

In the 1940s, Rosarian Academy solidified its foundations and began significant expansion. The purchase of Casa Hermosa in 1941 provided additional dormitory space, accommodating a growing student population, including many from South America. The school gained important accreditations and celebrated the groundbreaking for a new chapel and classroom building, marking a period of academic and social growth.

The school's growth spurt continued in the 1950s with the acquisition of the Yacht Club, which added vital facilities like an auditorium, additional classrooms, showers, and lockers for day students, and two apartments for faculty members The decade featured a notable educational forum in 1953 with international educators and saw the construction of new buildings, including Lewis Hall, Harrington Apartments, a swimming pool, and bathhouse The Academy also intensified its focus on the arts, showcasing impressive stage productions

As American society underwent great social and political change in the 60's, so did Rosarian Academy. The 1960s and beyond brought forward-thinking programs like language labs and a guidance department, along with the construc-

tion of the Margaret Tighe Machlin Fine Arts Center, which eventually produced classics like Brigadoon, The Sound of Music, Oliver, and Annie, with the original dog, Sandy, making a special appearance in the school's production

During the 1970s, Rosarian Academy introduced new electives and programs like Senior Projects, which fostered community involvement and career exploration, while also founding the Little School (Montessori) in 1974 for young children. The decade was highlighted by the restructuring of the sophomore religion program to include local outreach, the production of acclaimed Broadway shows, and the celebration of the Academy's Golden Anniversary in 1975 with a Gala at the Breakers Hotel, attended by notable figures such as Rose Kennedy and Perry Como.

By the mid 1980s, Rosarian Academy had fully transitioned to a co-educational model, serving students from Montessori through 8th grade. This new structure was solidified with the graduation of the first co-ed 8th-grade class in 1992, marking the beginning of a transformative period of expansion during the 1990s and leading to the construction of the Mary Alice Fortin Building.

This new facility replaced Bradley Hall and Casa Maria and was carefully designed to meet the needs of students and staff with modern classrooms, laboratories, and administrative spaces. Additionally, a comprehensive sports complex was developed west of the Fortin Building, providing students with top-notch athletic facilities, featuring tennis courts, basketball and volleyball courts, and a grassy field with a perimeter track, offering students a well-rounded environment for both academic and athletic development.

In 2000, Rosarian Academy celebrated its 75th anniversary, with the same commitment to comprehensive arts and athletics, emphasizing lifelong fitness, but a new dream. Under the leadership of Principal Mary DeVault and Board Chair Robert Garvy, a capital campaign was launched to fund crucial campus improvements, including the Rosarian’s firstever full-size gymnasium. When a hurricane damaged the fine arts building, the school seized the opportunity to reimagine its facilities, leading to an even bigger dream, the design of a new athletic and fine arts center

Nine years later, with Principal Sr Corrine Sanders at the helm, the Rosarian Academy community gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the Picotte Center for Athletics and Fine Arts This state-of-the-art facility housing the gymnasium, Music Suites, Drama Suites, Visual Arts Suite, and “The Neighborhood,” featuring a Family Academic Center for Enrichment, a Technology Suite, a Meeting Room,

and a Reading Lounge. With the new gym opening, the Chapel no longer had to host PE and extracurricular activities, allowing it to be reinstated as a chapel in 2010.

Rosarian’s growth didn’t stop there. In 2018, with Linda Trethewey as Head of School, the Freitas STEM Innovation Center, a state-of-the-art, hands-on learning environment, officially opened at Rosarian Academy. In this milestone achievement, Rosarian became the first Carnegie STEM Excellence Pathway partner in Florida, thanks to its partnership with the Carnegie Science Center. This initiative enhanced the school's curriculum which integrated computer

in the 1920s to its current status as a leading institution in innovative education and holistic development, Rosarian has continually evolved to meet the needs of its students and the demands of a changing world.

The Academy’s rich history of expansion and milestones, reflects its unwavering commitment to preparing students for future success, a mission that remains at the heart of Rosarian Academy today. As Rosarian looks ahead, it remains poised to build a strong foundation for the next 100 years, ready to embrace new opportunities and continue its legacy of excellence.
