FI N LAND Finnish winter wonderland
Finally it was time for the 6:th rotation to Rauma, Finland, where Tiina and her team gave us all a true Finish winter experience. The only thing I missed was my students.
Cold weather and warm welcome
Rauma Lyseon Lukio and its headmaster Matti Saarivuori opened the meeting with drums and speeches. Later we had the opportunity to have a tour around the school. The building was very modern and had many features our school is lacking. Everything was very clean and the walls was decorated with artwork made by the students.
After lunch the teachers was taken on a sightseeing tour by Juha-Lassi and Juha-Pekka. Rauma old town was very beautiful, we were even invited to see the interior of a house. We finished the afternoon with a hot
chocolate in one of the towns cafĂŠs. In the evening we were invites to a Welcome dinner by Vesa , the Head of Education Department.
ICT, radio interview and Winter sports The previous day the students took pictures during the guided tour. Today it was time to make the pictures into a Podcast.
Digital Print of Europe wasn't unnoticed! After lunch Tiina and some other coordinators was interviewed by the local radio station and on Wednesday the local newspaper made an article about the Comenius meeting. In the afternoon we had the a perhaps once in a lifetime experience, skiing and skating on the waterfront and Finnish sauna with winter bath. I must admit I hesitated to go into the icy water, but when I overcame my fear I actually enjoyed it.
We visited Rauma Nautical school and some of the students took part in a rescue practice. It was very realistic and I was so impressed by the students who did the practice, they did a great job. It was hard and also I imagine a bit scary.
Later that day we learnt more about Raumas past by visiting the Rauma Maritime Museum. In the evening it was time for the Farewell party and dinner. The finnish student had prepare an amazing show with singing and dancing and even a visit of Father Christmas.
