February is American Heart Month and Caring Neighbors would like to remind you that we have 2 AED defibrillators at Rose Hill. One is at Oak Terrace in the hallway outside of the Ladies Room. The other is kept in the roving Security car and can be accessed by calling the North Gate at 843-757-3001 or the South Gate at 843-757-3000. In either case, call 911 immediately and start CPR if necessary while a second person gets the AED. Once it is turned on, the defibrillator will give you step by step instructions for its use. Our hope is that you will never need to utilize this device but being prepared may lessen the severity of a cardiac situation.
Caring Neighbors Caring Neighbors of Rose Hill was recently contacted by Ashley Lindblad, Director of Marketing & Community Relations at Collins Group Realty of Bluffton. Knowing that we are a 501c3 non-profit charity, she offered us the opportunity to take advantage of a wonderful initiative for 2020 that they are making available. They will be donating the commission from their 200th home sale to a charity like Caring Neighbors! Collins Group Reality is asking folks to nominate their favorite local 501c3 on their website: www.CollinsGroupRealty.com/200thhomesale.com , now through February 29. The 3 charities with the most nominations will become finalists for the last round of voting in the spring or summer. PLEASE go to their website and vote for Caring Neighbors. Being a recipient of their contribution would allow us to meet our financial obligations so that we can continue to help seniors remain independent in their own homes. Services that are available include transportation to and from doctors’ appointments, food shopping, telephone calls to shut-ins, meal preparation and help after surgery, temporary dog walking, assistance with chores, and home visitations. Thank you in advance for your consideration and participation in this worthy cause. Caring Neighbors Board of Directors: Sheryl Inglefield, Ginnie Lee Chalmers, Jane Phipps, Cathy Michael

Cassandra King Conroy Featured Author for the Rose Hill Author Series The next Rose Hill Author Series lunch will be held on Tuesday, March 24, beginning at noon at Oak Terrace in Rose Hill and will feature best-selling writer Cassandra King Conroy, author of the recently published memoir Tell Me a Story: My Life with Pat Conroy. Cassandra King was leading a quiet life as a professor, divorced Sunday wife of a preacher, and debut novelist when she met and ultimately married Pat Conroy. In this poignant, intimate memoir, the woman he called "King Ray" looks back at her love affair with a natural-born storyteller whose lust for life was fueled by a passion for literature, food, and the Carolina Lowcountry that was his home. As she reflects on their relationship and the eighteen years they spent together, cut short by Pats passing at seventy, Cassandra reveals how the marshlands of the South Carolina Lowcountry ultimately cast their spell on her, too, and how she came to understand the convivial, generous, funny, and wounded flesh-and-blood man beneath the legend-her husband, the original Prince of Tides. Cassandra King Conroy is a best-selling novelist whose fiction has won the hearts of readers everywhere, especially in the American south. Her five novels, The Sunday Wife, Making Waves, The Same Sweet Girls, Queen of Broken Hearts, and Moonrise, as well as her book of non-fiction, The Same Sweet Girls Guide to Life, have won many awards and are best sellers. Most recently, King has been writing for Coastal Living and Southern Living. Her memoir Tell Me a Story: My Life with Pat Conroy was released in October 2019. Hosted by the Rose Hill Readers book club and held at Oak Terrace at Rose Hill (4 Clubhouse Dr., Bluffton), this special literary event is open to the public. Registration for the lunch is $25.00. Menu: Chicken Parmesan with spaghetti noodles and marinara, Caesar salad, toasted garlic bread, cheesecake with raspberry sauce, and soft drinks. Books will be available for sale and signing following the discussion. A portion of the proceeds from this event helps support the year-round educational mission of the nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center. Register in advance at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/4490243 by Friday, March 20.
Movie Lovers Lots of movies to choose from. "Little Women" is gone. Now we have from Cinemark Bluffton on Buckwalter on Tuesday, Feb. 18:"Sonic the Hedgehog", Fantasy/Sci-fi, 11:30, 12:50, 2:10, 3:00, stars James Marsden as Sonic's friend and Jim Carrey as the evil guy who wants to capture Sonic and use his powers for world domination. Rated 64% Rotten Tomatoes, 1/4 Ebert, 4/5 Common Sense. Listed as a family movie. "Downhill" starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Will Ferell. Advertising would have you believe it is a comedy, but from viewer's comments, it's not at all--rather depressing. 12:15 and 2:40. Rated 39% Rotten Tomatoes, 49% Metacritic, 2/5 Common Sense. "Harley Quinn:Birds of Prey" The only people who I recognize from the cast are Ewan McGregor and Rosie Perez. Rated 79% Rotton Tomatoes, Metacritic 60%, 3/4 Ebert. This is a movie with the Joker in it, but it isn't the "Joker" movie with Joaquin Phoenix. It's a comic book movie. Listed as Crime/Action 11:55, 1:20, 2:45 and 4:10. "Jumanji: the Next Level" is still playing. 1:00 and 4:05. If you liked "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle", this is a sequel. 71% Rotten Tomatoes, 6.9/10 IMDb, 3/5 Common Sense. Dolittle" Fantasy/Action PG 11:15, 1:55, 4:35 Rated 15% Rotten Tomatoes, 3/5 Common Sense, 1MDb 5.5/10. Robert Downey, Jr. and a bunch of voices including Emma Thompson and Rami Malek for animals that talk. Rather amusing. Looks violent in a scene, but no one is killed or seriously hurt that you can see. It is PG after all. Enjoy! Carolyn
