Innovation Lab @Ross
Innovation Lab @Ross is an academy within Ross School that is designed for students who are passionate about science, mathematics, engineering, media, and technology. This stimulating and rigorous program enables students to conduct independent research and undertake self-directed learning in such fields as electronics, computer programming, marine science, and digital media. A variety of specialized laboratory and workshop spaces allow students to experience hands-on learning and develop technical and design skills, while advanced math and science courses enable them to deepen their academic experience. Students also interact with professional scientists through mentorships, seminars, and online collaborations. Innovation Lab @Ross provides students with an engaging intellectual environment designed to foster their curiosity, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit.
INNOVATION LAB FOR GRADES 9–12 Students in grades 9–12 who are enrolled in Innovation Lab @Ross take advantage of an extended school day, specially designed elective courses, and state-ofthe-art technologies to pursue research and partake in projects in science, mathematics, engineering, media, and technology. Relationships with internal and external mentors, as well as dedicated time and resources, enable students to bring their passions to life in the lab and in the field.
JUNIOR INNOVATION LAB FOR GRADES 5–8 INNOVATION THROUGH INTEGRATION Innovation Lab students are fully engaged in the interdisciplinary Spiral Curriculum, the heart of Ross School core studies, taking daily classes with their grade-level peers. Ross School’s pedagogical approach teaches students to examine an idea from an integrated perspective, synthesize knowledge from disparate disciplines, and devise creative strategies and solutions. Innovation Lab students enjoy an extended school day to work on inquiry-based projects, and choose from specialized elective courses in such areas as robotics, computer programming, 3-D design, information visualization, genetics, marine science, and many others. Students apply their knowledge and skills to novel problems, think broadly about solutions to global challenges, and consider humanitarian applications of their work. NETWORK OF SCHOLARS AND MENTORS The Innovation Lab @Ross curriculum extends beyond the walls of Ross School, taking advantage of research opportunities in the field, online, and at nearby research facilities. In addition, Innovation Lab expands on the School’s tradition of cultivating relationships with mentors and scholars as part of its curricular model. Ross School invites individuals and institutions dedicated to research, entrepreneurship, and sustainability to help faculty design authentic, meaningful, real-world investigations or explorations for students. Innovation Lab students work both locally and globally as active partners in problem solving, gaining experience as scientists, engineers, designers, and mathematicians.
COMPETE FOR TOP COLLEGES AND CAREERS A full college placement program, including college counseling and standardized test preparation, is built into the school day for students in their junior year. Innovation Lab students receive a recommendation letter from the Director of Innovation Lab @Ross, SAT and ACT prep, a digital portfolio of the student’s research work and competition entries, and advisement with a focus on obtaining science, mathematics, and engineering scholarships. Ross School graduates have received millions of dollars in merit aid and been admitted to some of the most prestigious colleges and universities, including Brown, Columbia, Duke, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, Princeton, Penn, USC, and Yale. Innovation Lab @Ross students are optimally positioned to compete for scholarships to the colleges of their choice. WORLD-CLASS CAMPUS FACILITIES Students at Innovation Lab @Ross have access to a variety of campus facilities designed for active learning and discovery. Surrounded by acres of woodlands, farms, and coastal beaches, the Ross campuses are perfect natural laboratories for learning and research. Students are equipped with laptops and iPads, as well as specialized software and media tools for collecting, analyzing, visualizing, and presenting data. MARINE SCIENCE PROGRAM Innovation Lab @Ross offers a program in Marine Science for motivated students who are passionate about studying and understanding the ocean as an aquatic ecosystem and its relationship to the health and sustainability of our planet.

INSPIRING LOCATION Ross School enjoys an ideal setting, nestled in the woods on the East End of Long Island, a place where magnificent beaches and breathtaking natural beauty abound. Sited on the East Hampton campus of the School, Innovation Lab @Ross is part of an accredited day and boarding school program. Numerous resources are located within 100 miles of the School, including New York University, MIT, Harvard University, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, American Museum of Natural History, School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences at Stony Brook, and Brookhaven National Laboratory. Junior Innovation Lab @Ross is a program for advanced students in grades 5 through 8 who are creative, inquisitive, and eager to explore the fields of science, mathematics, engineering, media, and technology. Students extend their school day several times per week, taking part in activities that promote creative problem solving, inquiry, imagination, collaboration, and experiential learning. Junior Innovation Lab is designed to foster and develop skills in our younger students that will prepare them for Innovation Lab @Ross in their high school years.
SUMMER TERM @ROSS Innovation Lab offers three-week intensive sessions for students ages 14–18 as part of our Summer Term @Ross program. The courses, which may be taken as either a boarding or a day student, focus on intensive study of a variety of topics, such as design and invention or marine science.
