Thank you for all the vibrant activities in September! We have successfully completed the first Presidents and Secretaries Meet this month. Special gratitude to the host club, Rotaract Club of Narayani Midtown, for the wonderful arrangement and for the support to Rotaract District Committee in organizing the first PS Meet. I would also like to thank and appreciate all Club Leaders who were present in the PS Meet for their enthusiastic participation and contribution in the various sessions. As an effort to create a platform for Club Leaders to connect and interact with their counterparts, we introduced the Peer Learning Sessions in this PS Meet which primarily serves as a forum for the club leaders to discuss different challenges as well to bring out solutions and new ideas through the discussion itself. I hope the discussions were fruitful for all and that the Club Leaders had a productive ‘knowledge and idea-sharing’ session.

The next big thing to look forward to is our annual Rotaract District Conference, scheduled for 27 and 28 of December 2019. The host clubs have started the logistical preparations and the registration slabs are open.

Whereas, the Rotaract District Committee is working on the thematic part of the conference. The theme for the conference is “Investing in Youth”. The conference seeks to open a way for constructive dialogue and discussions regarding the investments made in youth - in other words, the opportunities and resources that are made available for youth in order to evolve themselves by unleashing the potential that they carry and grow as competent citizens.

We believe that the interactions and vibrant discussions put forth in the thematic sessions throughout the conference will bring out ideas on the current status of investments being made for the youth, interventions required in this sector, and the urgency to prioritize this very matter that actually is a matter of global agenda. Through the conference, we would like to create a synergistic relationship between the stakeholders that can possibly lead to a better understanding of issues relating to youth and seeking a way out fostering the youth for a better future.

At this juncture, I would like to take this opportunity to invite you all to the 12th Rotaract District Conference, where we shall once again engage in discussions on youth agendas.

Also, it is a proud moment for me to announce that we are hosting the Rotaract South Asia Summit 2020 in Nepal. We were awarded the bid in the Rotaract South Asia Summit 2019, where a team of four Rotaractors represented our District. I would like to express my gratitude to DRR Elect Rtr. Sanjib Poudel, DRC Member Rtr. Sabik Neupane, and Rtr. Gurmeet Kaur and Rtr. Ravi Gupta from RAC Lumbini Siddharthanagar for representing RID 3292 in the event.

Once again, I would like to wish you all a wonderful festive time ahead with family and friends. Let us all have a happy, healthy, harmonious and responsible celebration!

Interview

Mr. GIRISH BILAS JOSHI, DRR 2009-10 How did it feel to become the DRR of RI District 3292?

Well, I was supposed to be the DRR for Rota Year 2010-11 but as the DRRE for 2009-10 resigned from the post before the start of her tenure, my tenure was preponed to RY 2009-10. So I got just three months to prepare everything for my tenure compared to other DRRs who normally get almost 18 months for their preparation. Being DRR itself is a challenge and extra challenges were added up for me due to this postponement. Kudos to my team we all had a great rocking rota year.

How did things change after the bifurcation of District 3290?

It felt like some kind of freedom achieved after the bifurcation of district 3290. We didn’t have to wait for the DRR’s arrival from a far distance for anything related to our clubs and projects.

Thus effective coordination has been possible and better results have been achieved in overall sense post bifurcation.

How difficult was it to coordinate with clubs throughout the district?

I don’t know about the scenario currently but then in 2009-10, it was pretty difficult. We wanted the clubs to coordinate with the district via their respective Zonal Representatives but they still would like to communicate directly with the DRR or other district officials.

What are the differences between our district then and now?

Well, I have been away from the Rotaract movement for quite a long time now so don’t know the exact status of the current district. Of course, one major point is the size of the district comprising Nepal and Bhutan, with a greater number of clubs.

Name a few things clubs should change with the change with time.

In my opinion, clubs should plan as per what is required rather than what has been done in the past. The world has become a global village due to technology and we should think beyond the box every time while moving forward.

What are the things you learned in your tenure about the professionalism that you have carried with you even to this day?

There are many things that I learned in my tenure but Planning, Patience and Perseverance are three key factors that still resides in me till date.

How has being a part of Rotaract helped you in your professional and personal life?

I could learn many things via Rotaract, which I would not be taught in my school or college. Besides the unlimited pool of friends and elite people where I could showcase my products, services or any other kind of talent throughout the year.

Girish Bilas Joshi served as the District Rotaract Representative of Rotary International District 3292 in the year 2009-10. He joined Rotaract in the year 2003 and was a member of Rotaract Club of Mount Everest, Lalitpur until 2011. He is the Managing Director of Shree Om Investment & Organizer Pvt. Ltd.

Why do you think should youth join Rotaract?

Youth should join Rotaract for building up of all kinds of soft skills that one requires to compete in the 21st century besides practical values that one lacks in this commercial world. Fun, friendship and a huge network of elite people are always with you via Rotaract.

What is your favourite leadership mantra or quote?

“Change: Awake, Arise, Act” was my theme in RY 2009-10 and that’s my mantra.

One quote that has really touched me and has motivated me time and again is by Franklin D. Roosevelt and runs as: “We cannot always build a future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future.”

What message would you give to current Rotaractors?

It’s high time to portray our country’s name on the global map via Rotaract. So guys go for it and don’t forget: The more you do it, the more you will get the energy to make the impossible possible.

Works that Rotaractors are doing!

Photo Karkhana

“Photo Karkhana� is a seven- day photography workshop organized by Rotaract Club of Kathmandu from Sep 8, 2019, to Sep 14, 2019, at Rotary Hall, Thapathali. Mr Robinson Maharjan and his team were the trainers of the program. The sessions included basic understanding and use of equipment, camera handling, editing apps and tools, their purposes, and many more. The participants had hand-on experience through photo walks around Basantapur Durbar Square and Pashupatinath area.

Inter-School Speech Competition

Rotaract Club of Butwal Downtown organised inter-school Speech Competition. The program was conducted under the Chairmanship of Rtn Tulsi Ghimire President Of Rotary Club of Butwal Downtown. The theme for the competition was ROLE OF ROTARY IN SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT. The participants were from 12 different schools. Students from cannon Boarding School earned the first price.

FirsT-Aid Awareness & Kit Donation

On the occasion of International First Aid Day Rotaract Club of Mahabouddha jointly with Rotaract Club of Ulhasnagar Sapna Garden conducted FirstAid Awareness & kit donation.

Rotaract Club of Ulhasnagar Sapna Garden conducted awareness drive at Kai Say Vijayatai Primary Secondary School, Sahyadri Nagar while we RAC Mahabouddha donated 3 first aid kit at Namuna Machhindra High School, Lagankhel, Lalitpur. Rotary Nepal Literacy Mission Ambassador Rtr. Sareesha Shrestha and her team facilitated the first aid training and shared knowledge on how to use first aid to those students and children, to stop any mishap from getting worst.

Interaction Program on ‘Constitution of Nepal Implementation and Challenges’

On the occasion of Constitution Day, Rotaract club of Parbat Pokhara conducted an interaction program on “Constitution of Nepal - Implementation and Challenges” intending to increase the understanding of Constitution of Nepal. The speaker at the event was senior advocate Ram Parsad Ghimire, ex-vice president, Nepal Bar Association.

Free Anti Rabies Vaccination Camp

Rotaract Club of Ratnanagar organized “Free Anti Rabies Vaccination Camp” on the occasion of World Rabies Day 2019 at Sauraha chowk, Ratnanagar, Chitwan. Pet dogs from Tandi to Bakulahar area were freely vaccinated. Around 50+ dogs were vaccinated with antirabies vaccination. The program was supported by Ratnanagar Municipality- Department of livestock services and Nepal Veterinary Students Association-NPI.

Company Law and Tax Management

Rotaract Club of Swoyambhu, Rotaract Club of Dhulikhel & Rotaract Club of Baneshwor Royal organized Company Law and Tax Management intending to help the start-uppers and existing entrepreneurs, to know how legal and tax matter should be planned and complied before it goes to big penalty. The program was facilitated by Advocate Rtn. Aavash B. Pradhan, PP Rtr. Manik Balami, Advocate RTN. Bishnu P. Sapkota for your valuable time for the sessions.

Freedom for light

On the Occasion of Children’s Day, Rotaract Club of Biratnagar organised Stationary Distribution Programme in Saypatri Paropkaar Madyemik Bidhyalaya, a primary level School where 60 students are studying. Each student was provided with 2 pieces of the notebook, 2 pcs of pencils, Colorbox, eraser and Sharper. The school was also provided with sports materials.

Suicide Prevention Awareness

Rotaract Club of Patan Durbar square organised an interaction program regarding suicide prevention to make youth aware of the facts and current status about suicide and make them able to know the sign and symptoms. The interactions involved students from grade 10 who are preparing for the SEE exam so that they can learn to handle some stress of exam pressure.

Aafnopan - Health camp

Rotaract Club of Biratnagar Fusion organized a health camp named “AAFNOPAN� at Birateshwor Bridha Ashram where 45 elderly people had their health checked-up. Necessary medical supplies were also provided to the Ashram. The event was organised with the support of Dr Parth Guragain and Dr Piyush Mishra.

Free Health Camp For Women & Children

Rotary Club of Butwal Downtown, Rotaract Club Of Butwal Downtown, Rotaract Club of Ramapheticus, Rotaract Club of Butwal Synergy, Innerwheel Rupandehi Jointly organized the Programme Free Health Camp for women and children at Saraswati Primary School Sunawal Nawalparasi. The event benefitted 230 women who had their health check-ups from the team of Doctor and the necessary medicines were distributed for free.

Zonal Clean up Campaign

Rotaractors from Zone VIII collaborating the Lalitpur Metropolitan Ward no-16 organised a cleaning campaign at Dhougal bazaar where there was a lot of wild weed were growing and trashes were not properly taken care of. The Rotaractors involved in the campaigned worked toward clearing weeds, separating trash (degradable and non-degradable) and shovelled the trash into disposable trash bags.

The locals of Dhougal also helped in the campaign.

This campaign was done to reduce to risk of dengue.

Announcing King’s College and Rotaract District 3292 Partnership Rotaract District 3292 is collaborating with the King’s College and its MBA Nonprofit Program to promote a discourse of “transparent, impact-driven, innovative, and self-sustaining nonprofits that nurture local innovations through participatory collaborations”. The collaboration will allow the students of the MBA Nonprofit Program to engage with Rotaract Clubs as they share knowledge and carry out practices of effective board governance and leadership in the club.

MBA Nonprofit program brings forward an entrepreneurial and managerial approach to create, manage, and grow sustainable, transparent, accountable, and impact-driven nonprofit organizations in the broader socio-economic context of Nepal. MBA Nonprofit is a two-year graduate study program, where the students are engaged in a sixty-credit academic discourse, several portfoliogenerating professional workshops, community service projects, board service assignments, and research/internship/consulting work.

King’s College is also looking forward to form a Rotaract Club at the College and promote volunteerism and service through events and programs. King’s College is also providing generous scholarships to the members and affiliates of Rotaract District 3292 if they are interested in pursuing the MBA Nonprofit Program. The scholarship aims to honor the collaboration and appreciates the service of Rotaract members to society.

First Presidents & Secretaries meet The first Presidents and Secretaries Meet for Rota Year 2019-20 was held on September 14, 2019, Saturday. The event, hosted by Rotaract Club of Narayani Mid Town, was held at 4 Seasons Restaurant and Party Venue, Chitwan. The event had the presence of Club Leaders from 78 Rotaract Clubs and a total of 162 Rotaractors.

The event began with the District session, chaired

by District Rotaract Representative - Elect Rtr. Sanjib Poudel. During the District session, the Club Leaders were engaged in discussions on the different agendas for the amendments in Rotaract District Guidelines.

There was also a presentation on District Recognition Barometer by Assistant District Rotaract Representative, Rtr. Summit Bajracharya and presentation on Rotaract District Grant by District Rotaract Committee member, Rtr. Sabik Neupane.

After the District session, the event continued with the Peer Learning segment. Peer Learning session is a concept introduced by the Rotaract District Committee, to give a platform for club leaders to interact with and learn from their peers, that is, their batchmates. The participants were engaged in different group interactions on various topics that shall help in strengthening various aspects of the clubs. Discussions were held on topics like Sustainable Membership, Rotary-Rotaract Relationship, Financial Management, Public Image, Project ideas, among others. Club leaders discussed about the different challenges they faced, ideas and solutions related to the concerned topics, while also finding out ways of collaboration among clubs.

To end the day on a lighter note, the Peer Learning session was followed by different fellowship activities.

Rotaract South Asia Summit 2019 A four-member delegation from RID 3292, Nepal and Bhutan attended the Rotaract South Asia Summit 2019 held at Hotel Holiday Resort, Puri, Odisha, India. The team was led by DRR Elect Rtr. Sanjib Paudel and the team included DRC Member Rtr. Sabik Neupane, Rtr.Ravi Gupta and Rtr. Gurmeet Kaur ( both from Rotaract Club of Lumbini Siddharthanagar). It was a colossal experience for the team from RID 3292 to have encountered such a unique platform for the Rotaractors to meet, discuss and exchange ideas among them. Apart from the regular fellowship, the Summit had few interactive sessions that potentially enhanced the understanding of Rotaract and the opportunity that Rotary-Rotaract movement can possibly offer to the Rotaractors. Rtr. Sabik Neupane presented the information about the RID 3292 and Rtr. Gurmeet Kaur participated and won the individual cultural performances.

Furthermore, the delegation from RID 3292 presented the bid for organizing the Rotaract South Asia Summit in the following year and was provided with the opportunity to organize Summit 2019. DRR Elect Rtr. Sanjib presented the details of the event to the audience.

All in all, it was a unique opportunity for the participants and RID 3292 is excited to welcome Rotaractors from across the region for what would be a memorable Summit 2020.

Inter-district youth exchange program - RID 3170 As part of the Inter-District Youth Exchange Program (IDYEP) between R.I. District 3292 and R.I. District 3170, our Rotaractors from Zone 10 hosted fellow Rotaractors from R.I. District 3170 from 15th – 19th September 2019. The fellow Rotaractors from R. I. District 3170 who participated in the exchange program were Rtr. Aditya Thakkar from RAC GIT Belgaum, Rtr. Nilesh Jadhav from RAC Shirol, Rtr. Ayushi Naregal from RAC Karveer Vision and Rtr. Shamali Limaya from RAC Krishna Valley.

Along with sightseeing and fellowship activities, the IDYEP participants were engaged in various activities such as pottery making, momo and yomari making, as a part of the Nepali cultural experience. The different host Clubs from Zone 10, guided the participants for sightseeing at Bhaktapur, Dhulikhel, Banepa, Panauti and different places in Kathmandu.

The exchange program proved to be a wonderful experience for both the incoming participants and host clubs, as a means of cultural exchange and fellowship beyond borders. The outgoing IDYEP participants from Zone 10 are now preparing for their visit to R. I. District 3170.

National Cadet Corps (NCC) Training The first group of Rotaract and Interact participants has been selected for the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Training program. The National Cadet Corps (NCC) Training is a 100 days training consisting of two parts 79 days of institutional training and 21 days of Annual Camp. It consists of physical training, military training, disaster management training and adventurous training along with personality development sessions.

The selection for the training program took place at NCC Headquarters, Sundhara, Kathmandu on September 19, 2019 where 36 participants (Interactors and Rotaractors) were shortlisted for the training.

NCC holds the mission to conduct the best possible youth development programs, responsible for creating a human resource pool of disciplined, trained and motivated youth by embedding in them a higher sense of national unity and loyalty while assisting in their all-round development.
