Blast from the past - the year 2004 – 2005 President Geoff Swan I am very proud to have been your President for this year. The 100th year of Rotary, and to have had the opportunity to celebrate Rotary with you all, and also to have the privilege to represent you all at the International Conference in Chicago. The great night we had at the launch of the BMDI Charity House Project raising the profile of Rotary and raising over $12,000 for the Bone Marrow Donor Institute. Our Hosting of Rotary Exchange Student Jane Lindley from Overland Missouri, and our outgoing Student Angus Mc Larren to Mexico. Sergeant at Arms By the way John Arthur approached the Sergeant at arm job he must have thought he was still in the army. Any minor indiscretion by a Rotarian was pounced on with glee and any arguments only meant further fines. John continues to bring innovations to the section making sure we all gave up our money with a smile. Congratulations on a great effort Town Fair The 2004 Town Fair was a great success again, despite the adverse weather and was a credit to the Club. Planning for this year's Town Fair is underway and the event will no doubt be as successful as previous years.

from the president keeping up with the joneses! “When we recall Christmas past, we usually find that the simplest things - not the great occasions give off the greatest glow of happiness.” ~Bob Hope
but it is everyone’s individual efforts that make it so.
When I look back at the past six months in Rotary, I can see so many things that have given me a glow of happiness. They are too numerous to list here but let me recall a few moments. I think that our meetings have been lively and exciting. Some that come to mind are: an inspirational speaker like Josh Wood who made us all think; The Great Cup Cake Challenge with our friends from Greensborough Club; the Foundation Night; the Pride of Workmanship Awards and our meeting earlier this month when our RYLA participants spoke movingly of their experience. It’s not been the large numbers attending the meetings but quotes from people at those meetings. For example, when Steve Ferraro, a RYLA participant, thanked us for investing in people’s lives, I believe that we can all feel a glow of pride. We have had four new members join us and another one ready to sign up in the New Year. It is not the number of new members, but the contribution and personal touch that each new member can bring. Every one of them brings us fresh ideas, enthusiasm and different backgrounds into which we can tap. Let us strive towards at least another four new members in the second half of the Rotary year. As always, our Town Fair was a fantastic success – evidence of what can be achieved when the entire club gets behind something! It is a huge success,

Having a weekly Bulletin that is always brilliant is wonderful but it’s the small smiles that we all get from articles, captions and jokes from our Editor.

We l ook back at our achievement of building a Ramp House for the Riding for the Disabled Program – but it’s not the Ramp House – it’s the smiles on the children’s faces when they ride the horses!

Being one of the host Clubs for the Swedish Friendship Exchange was great for Diamond Creek, but more importantly, we met some wonderful people who brought new perspectives into our lives. On a personal level, it was not the pride of the Club hosting an Ambassadorial Scholar, but the love that Mariko brought into our lives. May the next six months in the Rotary Club of Diamond Creek bring us many more occasions where we feel pride and happiness in a job well done! May this Christmas season bring you and your family a time for relaxation, good health and every happiness.

what happened last week
?
President Alan opened the meeting and welcomed the many Rotaractors and Rylarians as well as visiting Rotarians accompanying them. Alan made a presentation of a Club dinner badge and an Akubra hat to the Ambassadorial Scholar Mariko Igawa who will soon be leaving to return to Japan after a year studying in Australia and just recently doing Ryla. Peter Hodge as New Generations Chair, advised the club that Beatriz from Brazil will be our next Youth Exchange student. She will attend Plenty Valley College. However Peter called for more host families. Alan Jones mentioned that the first meeting for the year will be on the 10th January at the Diamond Creek Tavern. PP Alan White advised members that the Community Christmas Carols will be held on Coventry Oval on the 18th December at 6pm.Volunteers are required. PP Geoff Swann advised members that a Christmas Party will be held at his place also on the 18th December but that he will have open house from 1pm. The members voted to also have a meeting on the Tuesday 20th. Chairperson Peter Hodge then introduced Ryla and a Video of this year’s camp was shown. The five Rylarians which the Rotary Club of Diamond Creek had sponsored to Ryla, then spoke in turn about their experiences and their individual perceptions of how Ryla had affected them. Common themes which ran through each speech were that it was the best week of their life; it had changed them for the better; and that they had made friends for life. End of meeting
