Distribution of Neem Seed during Twinkle Club registration Twinkle club of Hitvada newspaper is the largest children's club in India. The annual membership drive is held first Sunday of July every year. Our club for past many years is associated with this activity by way of distributing Neem seeds. The idea behind distributing seed is to make child understand the importance of trees. Once the child sees the seed taking shape of a beautiful sapling, the joy and loyalty towards the plant is built forever. This was evident during this year's distribution on 7th July. The task is challenging given the fact that the membership of the club is more than 25000. Laxmikant Padole of Neem Foundation provided seeds and arranged polybags. Twinkle club allows age group of 5-15 but we decided to distribute seeds to only those kids

who are in the age bracket of 5-10 to catch them young. The challenge is to procure such large number of seeds, packing them with polybag and an informative brochure. Doing it for more than 12000 within 3 days is equally daunting task. Thanks to sincere efforts of chairperson it was done smoothly. To ease the collection process of sapling we tied up with Krazy Castle at Ambazari and Vibrations restaurant near IT Park. Children can submit their 4-6 weeks old saplings at any of these two locations and can get fabulous discounts till 15th September. On 7th July hundreds of children queued up since early morning and Rotarians too turned up for the day ahead. Despite of heavy rains in the afternoon, neither the kids not the members lost any enthusiasm. Finally the

GREEN CITY COMMITTEE registration drive came to an end at 6pm and more than 20000 seeds were distributed to around 10000 kids. More than 70 Rotarians and spouses visited during the day and helped in conducting this enormous job. Many dignitaries also visited club's stall and appreciated this unique concept. Notable amongst them were Mayor Anil Sole, DCP Zone-I Kailash Kanse, Railway Protection Force Commandant Abdul Rehman, Additional CP Anant Shinde, and MLA Rajendra Mulak. Special thanks are due to Director Sanjay Sethi, Manjot Singh Kahai, Manish Bhati, Chairpersons Sangita Parekh, Shalini Gupta, Manju Bhatia, Vishal Agrawal and Parag Paranjpe for managing project magnificently. Lets hope that large number of kids comes back with saplings and help in creating green and clean Nagpur. - Team GO

Thinking Otherwise April 2013 was quite an eventful month from Rotary perspective. Being the magazine month, PP Dr Sanjiv Chugh in his X-press column had interesting topic for discussion. And the question posed was 'don't tell us how good Golden Orange is. Tell us where it's NOT good'. The opinion makers were the stalwarts of GO having presided over the job with élan. The GO was asked to take AGNI PARIKSHA to be judged by these eminent personalities. And it did come out with flying colours. Ironically Incoming President Prashant and Vice President Sohrab asked me to be Editor of this prestigious magazine. Have they found in me, 'Where it's NOT good'. Ok…time will tell. But honestly it takes lot of courage, conviction and stupidity to accept this profile. It's such a fine tuned product. Full colour excellent paper quality, loved by all with wonderful mix of Rotary and general information, something for everybody. In fact the district awards committee gave it the status of Lata Mangeshkar. While she voluntarily withdrew herself from Filmfare awards, GO was considered too good for it to be in reckoning. Some interesting observations were made in X-press. Few wanted it to be a collector's item with high shelf life. I had only one magazine in mind with very long shelf life. I mean National Geographic Later I came to know about the second one as well. The Readers' Digest. Later someone mentioned about third one that he thought was the 'first one'I had in mind.;-) Nonetheless…Team GOs endeavor will be to maintain the numero uno position of this wonderful magazine. We will try to incorporate features that will be interesting, inspiring and informative. Rotary is all about teamwork and my sincere request to all readers to give honest feedback and share information. Till next time…Happy reading P.S. When the objective is clear, and there is a willingness to serve the society, the path becomes easy. The consistent rains on Sunday 14th of July couldn't stop our Rotarians to be present for our longest running service project taken up by the club for the past 30 years at Sevanand High School, Koradi. The project started with installation of the interact club at 9 am. Swati Tembhane & Shubhangi Sontakewere were installed as the President and Secretary respectively. President Prashant Kale addressed the students in their very own language and impressed upon them that while the Club is ever willing to be involved, it's the student's responsibility to work hard and sincerely reciprocate what the club did for them. Note books, uniforms, stationary items were distributed to them. All the school children were distributed Parle G Biscuit packet. The community welfare committee also promised to renovate the toilets of the school, which are not in good conditions. Sadhana Paliwal conducted a workshop on Rakhi making from old cut pieces loitering in most homes. Our efficient Chairpersons; Rajeev Jhavery and Romesh Batra installed a Four-way test board near the main office. The medical committee conducted 50 dental checkups, 40 eye check ups and rubella vaccination was given to almost 125 girls. Dr.

Jerestine Watchmaker, Dr. Archana Jaiswal handled them all with the able support of Mrs & Mr Rajan Bhatia, first lady Smita Kale and Anushka Kale. Our rural and urban health chairperson Dr. Shantala Bole and Dr.Subhada Gade educated the girl students on adolescent health and sex education. The green city committee distributed Neem seeds and planted saplings in the premises .The students were asked to nurture the seeds and hand over to Crazy castle by 13 t h September, where they would get discounts. Sports committee had arranged to donate some sports material contributed by one of our club member Rtn. Neeru Kapai (Principal Modern School) for which the club once again is very thankful to her. The goods donated to the students were; Badminton Rackets & Shuttle Cocks, Skipping Ropes, Volleyballs, Laghori Sets & other miscellaneous sports material, Due to heavy Rains since morning the plan to Witness & play Kho-Kho & Kabbadi had to be cancelled, but the smile & happiness on the face of the students after getting those sports material was the biggest achievement we experienced. The rainy Sunday reminded us of our childhood as we were running in the muddy compound from one classroom to the other as

the rain Gods wouldn't stop pouring blessings on us!!! With our semi-wet attires we reached Krishnam restaurant where we had sumptuous brunch! Mostly Rotarians were discussing the weather, as the rains hadn't stopped for the past 48 hours. The members were also discussing the ways in which we could further improve the condition of the school. Such a mega project would not be possible without the dedication and efforts of our directors and chairpersons. Credit goes to Director Jatin Sampat, Chairperson Nisreen Maimoon (interact committee), Director Public Relations Sanjay Sethi, Chairperson Shalini Gupta (Green city), Director Medical Dr. Prashant Choudhary and his able chairpersons. Life Was Simple When Gay Meant Happy -18 July

REGULAR MEETING

Prince Manvendra Kumar Singh Gohil… who belongs to the Royal family of the former princely state of Rajpipla in India addressed th weekly meeting on 18 July This is one of those rare occasions when a member of the royal family addressed our club. He is the only known person of royal lineage in modern India to have publicly revealed his is “Gay” He said there are lot of problems that arise from belonging to a royal family by way of protocol etc. He narrated an experience when he crossed the Indian street for the 1st time at the age of 16 & remembers how petrified he was.

He has been in the news since 2006. His effigies were burnt in his hometown of Rajpipla when he came out of his closet. He has no regrets about coming out of his closet on this subject. He has appeared as a guest on THE OPRAH WINFREY SHOW in 2007. He has been one of the three people featured in the show “GAY AROUND THE WORLD.” He is respected for his leadership in preventing & education on HIV/AIDS awareness. He inaugurated Euro Pride Gay Festival in STOCKHOLM in 2008. He has also been featured in BBC Television. The film

When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile. Jehangir Doongaji as usual gave a lovely vote of thanks. -Anula Goenka

Kedarnath - The Aftermath - 25 july

The Aftermath of the fury.... It was like watching a cricket match. Ms. Bimla Negi Deoskar, the speaker at the Regular Meeting of 25th, gave a ball-by-ball commentary, or so it seemed. Enthralled and overwhelmed, the audience sat in pin drop silence, as we got a first hand narration about Nature's Fury at Uttarakhand. Ms. Deoskar, a

national level mountaineer, had gone on an expedition with a team of 13 girls from 11 different states of India. Excited and Enthusiastic to achieve new heights, their mission as they went was to reach their Goal & Create New Records. Little did they know then, that on their way back after a week, their life would have changed completely. They were sad, not to have made it to the summit

due to heavy snowfall but the sight that awaited their descent, gave a total new meaning to their mission. Tired & Tense, all that they thought of was to be able to help as many as possible and come back alive. It tears your heart apart to know, how cheap life is rated in our country. And that nature, beautiful at one moment can be so ugly & cruel. Goosebumps & moist eyes was what we all experienced, as we heard the straight from the heart talk, watching the slides alongside. A lot of questions come to mind but will they ever be answered? Thanks Girish & Rita for bringing such meaningful evenings to us. -Manju Shahani

Thrust Area Of The Rotary Foundation A Rotarian-led team of hydrologists, engineers, geologists, and other experts traveled to the Thane district of northwest India in October to help local Rotarians and their international partners design a global grant project to bring clean water and sanitation to more than 1,800 villagers. The team, funded by The Rotary Foundation and a grant from the Annenberg Foundation, is one of the first of its kind. It's the product of the Project Enhancement Process (PEP) pilot, which is designed to enlist the help of Rotarians with expertise in the water and sanitation area of focus so that clubs and districts can put together larger-scale, sustainable projects. The PEP pilot runs through July and involves nine districts testing 'The Rotary Foundations new grant model. The Foundation also collaborated with the Water and Sanitation Rotarian Action Group (WASRAG) to produce technical guides that walk Rotarians through planning an effective water and sanitation project. “This process is an excellent approach,” says Arvind Phukan, a civil engineer and member of the Rotary Club of Tacoma, Washington, USA, who served as team leader. “Sometimes districts don't have the technical expertise or the experience to do a larger project. This approach helps them think bigger and promotes better projects that will have a more significant impact.” After deciding to pursue a water, sanitation,

and hygiene project in the Akre Gram Panchayat region of India, the Rotary Club of Thane North and its international partner, the Tacoma club, requested an evaluation team through the PEP Pilot to help them assess and plan their project. The project would benefit about 350 households in nine villages in the Supi River watershed, where villagers are trying to eke out a living growing rice. Needs assessment The team met with villagers to assess their needs and determined that many of the local wells ran dry during nonrainy seasons because the area's shallow, impervious rock prevents water from seeping into the ground and replenishing the wells. In addition, some of the wells were poorly designed or damaged, and systems intended to funnel groundwater were inadequate. As a result, many of the women are forced to haul water from the Supi River or one of its tributaries. The villagers use the same water for cleaning and bathing, and also share it with their livestock, all of which introduces contaminants into the drinking water. And since there is no running water, the toilets that do exist go unused. The villagers' lack of good hygiene contributes to the spread of disease. The team's findings were the basis for recommendations that the Thane North and Tacoma clubs will turn into a global grant application with a budget of about US$333,000. The recommendations constitute a holistic approach to the area's

At The Home Of Tauby & Naushad Bhagwagar As the famous saying goes "Well begun is Half done". Take Rotary Home is a wonderful concept. And with gracious hosts like PP Tauby & Naushad Bhagwagar it becomes an evening to remember. A judicious mix of old and new; wherein the loud and the quite make the evening happy and enjoyable. It was our first Take Rotary Home after President Prashant Kale took the reins in his hands. A perfect weather for a perfect evening where 34 Rotarians and Anns gathered. The evening began with the introduction of members present and were stumped by a question thrown upon by Naushad ---- "What you don't like about Rotary?" And as expected got all politically correct answers. This was followed by Rotary Information or I would say a mind

RI NEWS needs that includes installing bore wells with submersible pumps near several of the existing wells to pump water to storage tanks, with the water flowing by gravity to the villages, where it would be treated and purified. A variety of rainwater-harvesting structures such as check dams and surface ponds would be built to replenish the groundwater. Sustainability A cluster of latrines would also be built in each village, along with washing basins and cattle troughs. Trenching and diesel pumps would be used for irrigation so the villagers can grow vegetables along with the rice. Adults and schoolchildren would receive instruction in hygiene and its impact on disease and health. Phukin notes that the process began by talking to villagers, a key step in making a project sustainable. “It all starts with the community. You must involve the community at every step of the process. You can't just hand them things.” Sustainable, large-scale projects also require a broad base of support. Phukan and team members have been helping to recruit other clubs and districts to join the Thane North and Tacoma clubs in supporting this project. “When this is done, and it can be done in phases, it will bring lasting change to the community,” Phukin notes. “The villagers' lifestyle will change for the better.” -PP Vijay Naidu

KYC AND BEYOND Kolkata yatch club…Kollam youth choir…. Know your client…Know your city…well here we are…KNOW YOUR CITY. Over a period of one year we shall explore and discover interesting aspects, architecture, undiscovered areas, icons, monuments, events, and any thing that matters and has got something to do with this city and nearby area. In other words we will try knowing our city. Whenever we talk of a city, we invariably think of its monuments…Paris-Eiffel Tower, NewYork-Statue of Liberty, WTC, London-Big Ben, Westminster, Delhi-India Gate, Qutub Minar, Mumbai-Gateway of India, and Nagpur-well well…there you go!! It becomes a little difficult to immediately recall a monumental icon you can associate Nagpur with! And you also would have noticed that all the monuments are historic and not built in the modern era. Why is it that when we remember a city we only think of monuments and its architecture? And usually these recollections are historic or loosely called heritage. Historic buildings, historic architecture or collectively called Heritage is usually associated with buildings and city's architecture. Recently, since the last decade or so, Heritage has become a buzz word with activist rallying for its preservation and conservation and builders not wanting to let go of their profit, demolishing at the first opportunity a quaint looking “old useless building”. Heritage is the legacy of physical artifacts and intangible attributes of a society that are inherited from past generations, maintained in the present and bestowed for the benefit of future generations. If described and defined in a broader and holistic way Heritage is also the range of contemporary activities, meanings, and behaviors that we draw from past for the benefit of the present and the future. Heritage is of two types:

1. Tangible (clear & definite and perceptible, physical presence) Examples: buildings, monuments, landscapes, books, works of art, and artifacts 2. Intangible (unable to be touched; not having physical presence, un-defined) Examples: folklore, traditions, language, and knowledge, and natural heritage including culturally significant landscapes, & biodiversity. In 2002 UNESCO produced a list of 'types' of heritage. (UNESCO). It should not be considered an exhaustive list, but it gives a sense of the diversity of 'things' that might be considered to be official heritage: 1. Cultural heritage sites (including archaeological sites, ruins, historic buildings) 2. Historic cities (urban landscapes and their constituent parts as well as ruined cities) 3. Cultural landscapes (parks, gardens and other 'modified' landscapes such as pastoral lands and farms) 4. Natural sacred sites (places that people revere or hold important but that have no evidence of human modification, for example sacred mountains) 5. Underwater cultural heritage (for example shipwrecks) 6. Museums (including cultural museums, art galleries and house museums) 7. Movable cultural heritage (objects such as paintings, tractors, stone tools and cameras – this category covers any form of object that is movable and that is outside of an archaeological context) 8. Handicrafts 9. Documentary and digital heritage (the archives and objects deposited in libraries, including digital archives) 10. Cinematographic heritage (movies and the ideas they convey) 11. Oral traditions (stories, histories and traditions that are not written but passed from generation to generation)

12. Languages, festive events (festivals and carnivals and the traditions they embody) 13. Rites and beliefs (rituals, traditions and religious beliefs)? 14. Music and Song 15. The performing arts (theatre, drama, dance and music) 16. Traditional medicine?literature? 17. Culinary traditions 18. Traditional sports and games So here we have an exhaustive list of what can be our heritage…Heritage of our city. And it would have dawned on us that there is so much that needs to be done and so much that we do not know. Hence KYC. Readers are requested to send in their experiences, anecdotes, information or whatever they think will be interesting to share with others and we shall do a detail feature on the same. Let's redefine what heritage means and lets educate our fellow citizens of Nagpur it's real meaning and on the way help us know our own city!! Meanwhile lets take a quick quiz and find out if you can recognize these? Yes they are an integral part of our city. Send in your guesses to habeeb@khans.co.in -Habeeb Khan

An Amazing Dream: A Hospital Story On 13 April 1971 Shri Sadhan Chandra Mistry, aged 35 years a vegetable vendor in the obscure village of Hanspukur, District South 24Parganas, West Bengal, died of a very minor ailment, only because he could not get access to any medical attention. He left behind his illiterate wife Subhasini (23) with two sons and two daughters four to eight years. The family plunged into utter poverty and Subhasini was forced out of her home within one month of her husband's death, to sell vegetables in that hamlet market. That day, while she sat under the scorching sun selling vegetables and worrying about her children, she took a vow that one day she will build a hospital in that very village so that no poor villager would die for want of medical attention. Her fellow vendors and every person who heard of her vow just laughed. How can she build a hospital, when she cannot even mend her own thatched hut? Plus she has to feed a family of five and marry two daughters. Its pure daydreaming. She must have lost her mind; was the conclusion by the village elders. However, day in and out, Subhasini went on selling vegetables silently and looking after her children never allowing the fire in her frail body to douse even for a moment. After persevering for twenty full years, ultimately she could start a

clinic at her home for poor people. She managed to coax a doctor into coming to her village every week. And week after week, while tens of poor patients got medical attention from this lone clinic in the region, Subhasini became the most popular household name in her village. Now her fellow vendors and all others started respecting her. That was enough of a support for her. In the meantime, her children grew up. The two daughters were married off. The eldest son chose to be a laborer, working in agricultural fields. Her other son, Ajoy was identified by Subhasini to carry on her mission. He completed his secondary education and passed the All India Medical Entrance Test. Aided by the German Scholarship, he joined Calcutta Medical College where he completed his medical course. He worked hard as he studied, ran around from friends to well wishers to any person/organization he had access and managed to raise Rs.50, 000 for his mother's mission. In 1993, Ajoy Mistry authored the trust deed of Humanity Trust with his mother Subhasini Mistry as the co-founder trustee. On 5th February 1995, the foundation stone for the Hospital was laid and on 9th March 1996, the hospital was inaugurated and opened to public. Within one year, the trust could raise ten times the initial

BOBBY'S BUBBLES money to complete the first structure of the hospital. Soon, more donations followed and today, Subhasini Mistry can say with pride that she has fulfilled her pledge made to her husband two and half decades earlier. The will and spirit of a woman who defied social norms and obstacles all along to establish the first hospital in that region The Humanity Hospital underscores a saga of dedication, commitment, vision, ambition and unflinching determination of a resource less illiterate village woman in acute penury and distress. Humanity Hospital is certified and registered as a Hospital under the West Bengal Clinical Establishment Act of 1950, managed by Humanity Trust formed on 4th March 1993. In the year 2000, in appreciation of their service to humanity and poor people in particular, both Subhasini Mistry and Ajoy Mistry were honored and named as the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary International. Today, despite the financial crunch to meet recurring expenses, the Hospital provides best services to poor and underprivileged sections of the society. Subhasini Mistry still sells vegetables in Kolkata market to sustain her family. -Bobby Srinivas

Ms. Rupali Ashish Kale

I have known her from almost the time she got married, into one of the most renowned families of the city. Somehow, I always liked her and knew there was more to this girl, than just a pretty face. Life is Complex. And the easiest way to make it simple, is understanding, "The Gita". With this belief, this girl, who was barely out of the cradle, when she married, set out to start life with her

childhood sweetheart. Two children, Sarika, who is doing her Junior College at the Swami Chinmayanand School at Coimbatore and Shivraj who was at Vishwa Shakti Gurukul at Pune (and has come back to Nagpur for the 10th), are the pivots of her life along with Cupid & Osky - the 2 lhasas, they all love. Always wanting to do something for the underprivileged and society in general, she has seen Rotary at close quarters through her uncles' & aunts, who are senior members of our club. Thus Rotary always attracted her. And she & her husband both got inducted in

NEW MEMBER October 2012. Unfortunately, they have not got as involved as they would have liked to, as their business is taking more time than they had expected. A new agency for Bharat Benz and their four Auto Showrooms, are keeping them more than busy. Of course, home & hearth also play an important role, though she has a mother in law, who shares that responsibility. If all goes well, they should have more time for Rotary next year. Also associated with the Children's Movement for Civic Awareness, she would like to be involved with any committee that cares for children, women & / or health. Thoroughly impressed with whatever she has seen of the club, she is most fascinated with the amicability with which the old & the young mingle. She believes, it is the experience of the seniors that brings in the security & the enthusiasm of the youngsters that brings in new energy and together the two make our club ROCK! That friends, is Ms. Rupali Ashish Kale, the prettiest peach on the patch! -Manju Shahni

Harpreet Uppal Introduced to Rotary by PP Rajan Bhatia, who has known his family for maybe 25 - 30 years, Harpreet, fondly called Ricky, joined Rotary in October 2012. Owner of the famous – Uppal Brothers / Surgicals, he knew about The Rotary Club of Nagpur & the worthy work, we did. (As the club has been buying stuff from them for years) Hence, always wanted to become a part of our organization. Good friend, Rajiv Javery wanted him to join 3 years ago, but Harpreet knew, he couldn't give much time then, so waited till his children were reasonably older, so that he could do justice to both the club & himself. With both parents, active Lions, philanthropy & service were always a part of his life. With a Bachelors degree in Electronics, Harpreet, custom designs some off the products he sells. In India, walkers do not generally have a seat. He incorporates this for those who require it. Similarly, he manufactures wheelchairs, with folding arms so that one can easily slide in or out. Basically it is this humane side of him, that inspires him to walk that extra mile and make products as per the need of the patient. Money has never been the criteria. He even does it for free for those who can't afford. Married to

22

Ruchi, a Software Engineer from Agra, they are blessed with Jasmine who is 10 and Aalya who is 5. Ricky has not been very regularly, as his father, due to old age, is unable to hold fort every Thursday evening but he does attend, as and when he can. Ruchi, on the other hand is thoroughly enjoying Rotary. She feels our members are very warm and that they have been welcomed with open arms. The first event she attended after joining was Sinjara, where her mother in law accompanied and they were both totally bowled over. Since then, she has attended regular meetings and few projects. She was

overwhelmed with the magnanimity of the Neo Natal Centre we donated to the Matru Sewa Sangh. Donated blood for the first time in her life on the 4th of July, made her first announcement of life, on the 11th July. Would love to be a part of any health related project. So friends, we have one more dedicated Rotary Couple in the making‌ in Ruchi & Ricky Uppal. -Manju Shahni

Get Ready To Garden The heat has long since gone and the rains have been lashing down. The parched soil's thirst has long been quenched and it is ready to receive its foliage for the season. Now is the time to get moving and get your garden ready for the year ahead. Get your garden tools oiled and ready and put on your gardening gloves! First of all, check out the drainage. Both air and water are necessary in the soil if plants and soil organisms have to thrive. The addition of organic matter , such as well rotted garden compost will greatly improve the content of the soil. When well composted , garden and

kitchen waste is transformed into a homogenous compost. Once the soil is ready , you are set to go buy plants. Most of us buy plants from nurseries or exchange them with friends. Plants from nurseries are usually well tended and healthy . However, it is always better to carefully pick your plants. Here are a few pointers -Make sure that the plants are not loose in their containers. This would mean that the plant has not been long enough in the container and will not transplant well. -Check to see if there's just a little root showing

through the bottom of the container. This will mean that the plant is well established. -Make sure that the soil in the container is moist. -Make sure that there are no weeds or moss growing on the soil surface. -Plants should be free from signs of pests or disease. -Avoid thin spindly plants. -Foliage should look healthy, without brown spots , marks or discoloration. -Khushnoor Chugh

CREATIVITY IN FOCUS – SAMIHA KHAN -BY Mamta Kanga DAUGHTER OF HABEEB AND SMITA KHAN I am a 12th grader and have been into classical music for a long time, it was in first std that I took my first music lessons and since then I never really looked back. I was addicted… ! I gave 5 hindustani classical music exams after which I had to stop due to academic pressures. but these 10 years of learning did change my perspective towards music altogether. Music for me is no longer just some words put into a nice tune...it is something which refreshes a person beyond boundaries. I personally believe and understood that a proper musical training is an essential aspect of a child's life, just as sports is to physical health, music is to mental health. moreover talking about classical music …..it sensitizes you to a spectrum of emotions as the ragas portray... it teaches you the minute details of everyday life which any person may not be able to tutor… to be a little less philosophical it basically enriches you in a way different than any school would….it might obviously not teach you to add 1 and 1 to get a 2 but surely explains you the finer sensitive aspects of life , which , in todays growing materialistic , world are very important. LITTLE HEARTS – TARONISH RANA

SON OF MEHERNOSH & NILUFER RANA Hello everyone! I am Taronish Rana, 7 years old studying in class II, Centre Point School. My hobbies are cycling, skating, gaming, cricket and i hold the green belt in karate and still learning...and yes! I want to do all of this with the one i love the most MAC, my dog. He is a pure breed black dachshund. He is one year old. We have always had big dogs at home. This is the first time we bought this small bundle of energy who matches my spirit ;-). I enjoy playing with him. He greets me first thing in the morning with a snug of his wet nose. I love snuggling with him, talking to him and he is my comfort when i have no one to play with. He loves eating Parle-G biscuits with me. It's his favorite and mine too! He follows me wherever I go and I enjoy it too. I have two sisters and Mac compensates as a brother to me. He is very protective of me and likewise. I think everyone should keep a dog; they are the best companions one can ever have!

INDIAN FILM INDUSTRY – RAUNAK BADJATE

SON OF ANUJ & PRITI BADJATE Indian Film industry has traveled long distance in last few decades. It is not only a source of entertainment but also a very effective medium to spread meaningful message to the society by large. Beyond this the industry also has the credit of contributing significantly to the economic growth of the country. The event of globalization has made it possible for Indian cinema to reach every corner of the world and receive appreciation and subscription from most of the countries. Movies like “Chak De India” and “Bhag Mikha Bhag” have played a very important role in motivating and promoting sports in the country. The film has also opened doors of employment for large numbers of youngsters and offers opportunities to become rich and famous like the legendary Amitabh Bachhan and Shahrukh Khan. But oftenly good things come with a baggage, commercialization of Indian cinema has led to exhibition of bad things like smoking, drinking and excessive influence of western culture having deteriorating effect on the culture amongst the youth. In the end I sign off with a hope that Indian Cinema presents meaningful and inspiring movies to have a positive impact on the youth.

GEEK SPEAKS

GUPSHUP

An App(s) a day …….

Greetings to all for the new beginning of the Rotary year. I am glad to take up this

QR Code Scanner All of you must have noticed weird looking graphics on bottom-right of front page of the GO. Similar graphics keep cropping up on newspapers, magazines and everywhere. They are nothing but special type of Barcodes and can be used to read data using your mobiles. Most modern phones with camera can scan the barcodes today. To install app, just open website f2k.mobi or scan.me directly on your phone or search for QR Code scanner on App Store. Coming back to the QR Code on front-page, it's something which GO Editor likes to call as “GO in Pocket”, because you can take that small QR code in your wallet and whenever you want to read that particular issue, you have to just scan the code and GO will open on your phone or tablet. Also it makes sharing GO with your friends easy. QR codes make it very easy to share many types of information like text message, website address or complete contact info. For example you can scan following QR Code for contact info of our President:

column from the vibrant and efficient Manju Shahani, who gave us so many years of Rotary Buzz. New columnist! New name for the column. So henceforth its "Rotary Gupshup" for you and do call me and share your joys, sorrows and achievements. To start with, let me tell you that our very own Picasso...Sadhana Paliwal has won the first prize in an all India Painting Competition held online by Nilami House. Congratulations! Nabhanya (Atima) daughter of Rakhi and Vishal Bhatia scored 95% and Jafreena daughter of Shahrukh and Pervin Cassad scored 92% in the CBSE 10th
