R. I. President’s Message Dear fellow Rotarians, All of us reach a point in our lives when we must decide what we want our legacy to be. Do we want to be remembered for the material things we pursued or the relationships we nurtured? Do we want others to recall only the cars we drove or the jobs we had when they think of us? Will this world be better off for our having been in it? In Rotary, we know what legacy we are leaving for the world. When Rotarians see a need, they meet it. When Rotarians see conflict, they work to bring peace. Rotarians work every day to make the world a better place. We have all come to Rotary
for different reasons, but we have stayed in Rotary because it has brought out the best in us. It has shown us the value of integrity, compassion, and dedication, and in Rotary, we now have family members around the world. In short, Rotary has made us better people - people who want to make a difference. Rotary has been a gift to each of us. This year, we will give that gift to others. Whether that is through participation in a National Immunization Day, a strategic partnership funded by a Rotary grant, an invitation issued to someone to join Rotary, or a simple act of goodwill, we will continue to share Rotary's good work with people around the globe. In telling our Rotary stories, we will tell others about the many ways that Rotary has given us a legacy that lasts. I look forward to the great work we will do together in Rotary this year, as we strive to Be a Gift to the World.
Sincerely, K.R. Ravindran 2015-16 President, Rotary International

My dear Rotarians, When you gift your time in service, you touch lives. When you gift your resources, you uplift lives. When you gift both time and resources with love and compassion, you yourself, become a gift to the world, to humanity. As Rotarians, we should be leaders, not followers. Our dreams should not be about past victories, but future challenges ! How we are going to meet them by using the latest technology, that can reach all of us. In an age where people are more connected, distracted and busy than before, how do we as organisation remain relevant ? Charles Darwin observed, that it isn't the strongest who survive, nor is it the most intelligent, but it is those who are most responsive to change. If we do not lead innovation and change, we stagnate. We should start now, as reminded by Gandhiji '' The future depends on what we do now ''.Lead by example. Let us look at the gift of knowledge. It's management is the process of capturing, developing, sharing and using organisational knowledge effectively. Rotary's objective in simple terms, is to build world understanding, goodwill and peace by connecting leaders, our members around the globe - moving them into action. To do so we need to share resources, ideas and knowledge. The genius of Rotary is, that it provides a way to take the resources and skills of a diversity of people and harness them for good. For

maximum impact we have to do it efficiently, transparently with our focus and attention. We are all mortal. Our time on this earth is finite. We have only one chance at our lives. We shall have only one chance at 2015-16 Rotary year. Time is so short, so much to be done. Let us make a difference to the not so fortunate, by changing the face of Govt schools under direction of Rotary India Literacy mission. Let us fulfil our commitment to ''Swach Bharat Abhiyan'' by constructing 500-1000 toilet blocks. Together let us build ''Rotary Cancer hospital'' which will give hope to thousands of patients. I ask you to give your faith, dedication, commitment and empathy. I ask you of all these gifts. Even more, to be a gift to yourself. Rtn. Nikhil Kibe Dist Governor 2015-16
President’s Message the vulnerable. With fervour and fellowship, we can seek out new needs in our community and address them. The month of July has zipped past. Thankfully, very well! Our hands have been full with work; our hearts with the warmth of fellowship and new bonds. With eleven months to go, one knows the calendar is full and the diary overflowing with to-do lists. In the months that follow, our dream is to make a lasting difference in our environment, in our communities, in our schools. Our vision is to engage our youth in meaningful activities to channelize their youthful strength, energy and verve. We want to make sure that Rotary continues to light up the world. May we strike new bonds, build new friendships, serve the deserving and let the world know that ROTARY IS THERE .ROTARY IS FUN. ROTARY IS DOING GOOD WORK. May we indeed be able to 'Be a Gift to the World'!

President's Message At the stroke of the midnight hour of June 30, 2015, the world prepared itself with open arms as Rotarians all over the world readied themselves to 'BE A GIFT TO THE WORLD.' In Rotary, one year seamlessly slips into the next. There is a change of guard but the time-tested systems stand guard. This year was no different. Keeping up with the Rotary wheel in its fast and furious mode, our Club touched the finishing line and took off once again. Even before one could say, 'On your mark….get set…go….' our Rotary sprinters were well on their way. On their way, to start the jobs they had scouted around for. On their way, to scurry further into the mammoth ocean of opportunities to serve, to gift. The Rotary Year began with a bang as usual. The hoardings were up to showcase the work done by Rotary; Project Nutrition started. Fruit trees were planted and Neem seeds distributed. Vocational Training and Blood donation camps commenced. Interact installations started in right earnest. A major event, LITERACY WINS was ably organized for the President's Enclave by our Club. Shramdaan at Ramnagar was a maiden attempt by our Club to clean up a public ground and awaken the slumbering authorities. Our good Samaritans also stepped forward with their timely and generous contributions to enable us to get started. Uniforms and books have already been distributed to the needy students. All these activities are covered in detail in the inside pages. Such are our members!! Committed, enthusiastic, forthcoming. Ever-willing to pitch in – physically and financially! It is because of this solid support that we one can dedicate oneself to improve the living conditions of

My thoughts... Little known fact - PM Modi's 'Selfie with Daughter' phenomena was inspired by a little known sarpanch of a remote village in Haryana - Sunil Jaglan. The sarpanch, on his birthday, clicked a picture of himself with his three and a half year old daughter and invited more such pictures from people for a cash reward of Rs. 2100. The PM thought it was a good concept, mentioned it on his 'Mann ki Baat' and he spoke of it with reference to the Central Government scheme 'Save the daughter, Educate the daughter'. These selfies are all over the social media today. The sarpanch, now besieged with photos of parent and daughter all over his whatssap, has achieved what he set out to do, cash reward forgotten. We tend to be a reactive set of people and it takes only a few gruesome rapes to make us realise the importance of safety of women. I recently read an article in which a young girl was all praise for the Mumbai police. On seeing her alone at the
taxi stand at VT station Mumbai, the policeman not only noted down the prospective taxi drivers name and number but also took a picture on his phone and only then allowed the young girl to get into the taxi. Kudos Mumbai Police... May your sense of responsibility increase. This is very oft repeated story on the social media but at the cost of repetition I would like to narrate it again. A stranger approached a school going girl and told her he had been sent by her mother to pick her up. The girl then asked the man for a password. The man fumbled and the girl ran away. The girl and her mother had decided on a password in case a stranger came for her claiming acquaintance with her family. We need to make our girls aware of such happenings. Today, as dignitaries of the country lay a wreath on the mortal remains of exPreseident A.P.J Abdul Kalam, I would like to pay homage to this great gentleman
by quoting h i m “ Wi t h o u t y o u r involvemen t you can’t succeed and with your involvemen t you can’t fail” On a lighter note, the summer has melted most of us and bid adieu...the scorching heat has now given way to heavy clouds and we witness the downpour occasionally which cleanses the city and our mind...to fresh beginnings.....Hope you enjoy reading our first issue as much as we have enjoyed putting it together for you !! conviction in the heart to “soar higher than before”. Let us all together make this a year of GIVING - For all the goodness that this world has, it needs and deserves more. With this thought in our minds, let us fulfil the other important task of giving…of “GIVING UP”.Let us give up the habits of 'idleness' and 'procrastination', of malicious satisfaction over other's miseries, of loathe and apathy; not that we have them in plenty but even the seeds that have begun to sprout have to be uprooted. Let us bring out that innocent child in us, one who looks upon the world with awe and reverence, whose innocence supersedes the self-destructive and selfdemeaning barriers that “society” has erected, whose curiosity far subverts the cloak of disillusionment that the “grownups” have with life. “Where the spirit breathes” is a phrase which depicts the utmost necessity of keeping one's inner flame burningnourished with the fuel of ambition and buttressed with the oxygen of self-belief; Where can such a spirit reside, but in an
untarnished soul and an innocent heart- one which beats t o t h e rhythm of the waves, the sound of the ocean, the scowl of the desert, the melody of the breeze, the peter of the raindrops and the twinkle of the stars. There is true joy, happiness and contentment in giving- for nothing in this world is permanently ours and yet, part of everything belongs to us- for we are one, with the Universe. So for those who believe in the soul being part of the Universe, at large, “giving” actually takes you that one step closer to uniting with the Universe and on the path to find the true meaning of life- “giving memories”. Rotarians! Give, and “Be a Gift to the World”! Durriya Akolawala Editor

“WHERE THE SPIRIT BREATHES, THERE IS NO ROOM FOR FEAR!!! GIVE AND YOU WILL FIND TRUE JOY!!!” - The lines of a hymn that make me nostalgic of the assembly time in my convent school, where with an unfettered mind and an unburdened heart, they were recited. With the passage of time, the real honest joy of giving, sharing and loving has been lost under a heap of responsibilities and stress, where each and every one of us is bonded by some priorities and chained to our daily routine like The Goldfinch that is chained to the uneventful and invariable wall, by its own foot. But when man decides “to strive to seek and not to yield' then there is always a channel, a window, a path... We as members of Rotary Club of Nagpur are blessed with such an opportunity where we can bring our philanthropic selves to the forefront and not just make a difference, but also more importantly, improve lives. A new year for Rotary has begun, a year with revived hope, abundance of zest and

Rakhi Bhatia welcomed the guests and handed over the reins to Manisha Agrawal, the anchor for the show. She then called President Khushnoor for the inaugural speech. Our ever smiling President's words filled the children with a lot of energy. She said that help need not be materialistic. It can be done by just spending some time with them or giving love to the needy. The students got the opportunity to mingle with each other through an ice breaking session so nicely conducted by Neelu Garg and Urwi Suri. It was good to see a team of different school children become winners. Correct information is always the first motivation. PP Tauby Bhagwagar provided the much needed info about

Project Possible! One fine morning I was delighted to receive a call from our Golden Orange coeditor Durriya, who asked me to write about what in my view would be my dream project that I would want Rotary to take up? It made me think and almost in a flash, I saw my 23 years of Rotary life in the eye of my mind!!! What was it that had inspired me, made me feel proud of my service to society? I think the answer is not an easy one. Our Avenues of service have given us a world of opportunities to serve the society. And it is a matter of pride that our club has consistently done well in every Avenue. For medical professionals, it is easier as their contribution is measured by the quantum of work they do in their area of specialization. But for non-medicos, we have to work hard to make a niche of our area of service, and work consistently till recognition comes our way!!! I remember when I started as a chairperson, the club leadership felt I would do well in the Youth service avenue, and I was made incharge of Interact and IYE, and later on for Rotaract. This was the 90's and few of us “young and dynamic” Rotarians were moving around town doing the rounds of schools and colleges, as most chairpersons are doing so well these days. I later found myself getting involved in more and more medical and non-medical community service activities. These gave me immense pleasure and I tried hard to
do as much as was possible, in the time that I had at my command. And then came the opportunity of getting involved with masses in a unique way. I never knew this would be the way forward for Rotary to engage with the youth, and we worked as a team to offer career counseling for class 10th and class 12th appeared students. Fresh from the initial success of these events, we went on to address the issues of those who had not done well in these milestone exams. It dawned on us then that the youth who had to drop out of formal studies, had little opportunity in store unless they had some skill sets that they could exploit commercially. So was born the concept of “Asha Rekha” and “Asha Kiran” thanks to club icons like PP Manu, PP Raj and others at the time. We found ourselves to be actually benefitting those sections of society who had no hope, and we gave them hope, we gave them skills, and we gave them the confidence that even they had a second chance at a career. Soon we found we could partner with few other organisations, and IIYW came on board to offer more skills. Vocational training and vocational education was now giving us more teeth to address the poor sections in society. The ones who were getting trained were so grateful that they would talk about how their lives had changed with the skills they had learnt. In our club, we have entrepreneurs and
PP Vijay Naidu
business men & women, who can offer internships to many youth who would be willing to train with them. These internships could be for a specific period of time, and if the aptitude is established, it would give those individuals the opportunity to work in that industry sector later once the training is completed. This is what Rotary can offer to youth on a large scale. Beneficiaries or applicants/candidates can learn skills in the area of vehicle mechanic, electrical wiring and fitment, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, sales & marketing, office management, security, IT, etc… We have done this model earlier and I am not sure how and when it was discontinued, but what I am absolutely sure about is that we can certainly give it another try and make it happen. The number of youth without skills and without employment is increasing by the thousands, and if not checked, these youth may wander off either into a career of crime or waste their time doing nothing. Rotary has the Vocational avenue of service and so all such activities could be categorized and accomplished with aplomb. This is what I would like to dream and convert into reality if given a chance!!!!!

This book is an autobiographical account of a mother's (Neela Satyanarayana's) trauma and a family's trial, when a mentally challenged child is born into it.
The initial tears of joy on getting a son(Chaitanya)metamorhose into tears of sorrow when once the truth that he is a "Down's Syndrome" baby is revealed. For the doctors, he is more of a research object, a guinea pig. Their callousness adds to the shock and torment of the family. The older sibling craves for a brother to play with, but her warm and secure world suddenly turns topsy turvy, when she is not even allowed to touch him, let alone play with him. Her parents' attention is directed towards him, and all she gets from them is, their neglect consequently isolating her from them and making her a moody difficult child. The young aspiring husband turns into a full time father overnight and the traumatised
working mother isnt even familiar with the name "Down's Syndrome" to begin with! But they all rise like a phoenix from the ashes and with their love n devotion, train Chaitanya for mental n physical independence, thereby integrating their world of normal people with that of this exceptional child. Once declared a "living vegetable",he becomes a " living joy" for everbody. The title of the book"ONE FULL, ONE HALF" was inspired by Chaitanya's words, when he asks the bus conductor to issue him 'one full(for his mother) and one half ticket(for himself). This poignant story, with an inspiring lucid narrative has been lauded by even A.P.J ABDUL KALAM.Go on...read it, feel it
Doctor Alert Some health tips to make your monsoon fun and memorable‌. Rain is grace; rain is the sky descending to the earth; without rain, there would be no life. Rain showers my spirit and waters my soul. The onset of monsoon is met with excitement and exhilaration, especially in our city, Nagpur. It's tempting to get wet and play in the rains, eat spicy street food and go for picnics and treks. But the monsoons bring with them their own set of challenges and we need to address them so that we can stay healthy and enjoy the rains. The damp and filthy conditions in monsoon play a host to many air borne and vector borne diseases, which cause some serious health attacks like dengue, malaria, conjunctivitis, typhoid, hepatitis, viral fever, pneumonia, common cold, diarrhea and dysentery and fungal infections of the skin. Q. How to avoid vector borne diseases
like malaria and dengue It's important to curtail the growth of mosquitoes and other insects by all means possible. Thus, water should not be allowed to stagnate and frequent spraying of insecticides is advised. To avoid being bitten, we should use insect repellants and mosquito nets. Any prolonged episode of fever should not be neglected and should be treated by a doctor. Q. Prevention of water borne diseases like gastroenteritis and typhoid The most important advice is to check and double-check that the water we drink and use for cooking is purified. Water should be consumed only after filtering or boiling. Vegetables should be consumed only after thoroughly washing them and they should preferably be eaten after cooking and avoid raw veggies for a while, whereas fried food and street food are totally out. We should eat foodstuffs that increase immunity like garlic, basil, ashwagandha,
neem, turmeric, methi and drink herbal teas. Frequent hand washing and hygiene goes a long way in preventing spread of flu, water borne diseases and eye infections. Vaccines are available for various diseases like typhoid, cholera, Hepatitis A, Pneumonia, etc. The vulnerable age group, especially children and the elderly, should be vaccinated. People should also be vaccinated for swine flu especially in areas where cases have been detected. Q. How to keep your skin free from eruptions and infections People who face skin allergies during rainy seasons must avoid spicy foods. It is best to wear loose cotton clothes and use anti-fungal talcum powder in areas prone to fungal infections. Q. How to prevent conjunctivitis Frequent handwashing is advisable and as far as possible, avoid touching the face or eyes with your hands.

Fealty to the Body Shibu Mathew Friends, I believe, keeping yourself fit and energetic in all seasons is necessary for a healthy life - the ETERNAL GIFT OF GOD. It needs only an hour daily, be it brisk walking, running, swimming, playing sports, cycling, jogging, gymming, yoga, etc. Of course, you can & must change your exercise routine to do other physical activities to activate untouched muscles routine 5 days/week gymming, yoga, swimming and remaining 2 days cycling or any sports of your choice to experience an energizing activity and make sure every muscle gets strengthened. Even simple body weight exercises like pushups, lunges, squats, etc. at home regularly will reap benefits in the long run- a lean & fit body. MAKE-UP YOUR MIND .... Rome was not built in 1 day. Of course, you will not get any result in a day, but that day will lay the foundation of your healthy wish and let your positive MIND do the MAGIC in YOU. Hence I always say, “HEALTHY PHYSIQUE shows WISE MIND - which motivates you to feel & look fit & healthy. So let's start and just do it; to be healthy, irrespective of what your negative mind buzzes – lame excuses [for procrastinators]. Come on! Is there anything more beautiful than the gift of excellent health? Ready then? Work towards it. DO'S
・ Believe & motivate yourself to take responsibility to be healthy and motivate everybody for mutual fitness - of any age. Especially, family members, friends, people around, creating a healthy 'chakra' around you. ・ Better to start at early age - For better foundation of any body, it's easier to build muscles & fight against flab. ・ Wear sporty - good bright colours to charge up your mood. Make good choice of proper dress, comfortable good shoes. ・ Consult your doctor for right signs of ailment or pains, in periodical checkup - even if you don't have any problem. - make your doctor your friend for life. ・ Fitness with power of mind i.e. staying focused no matter what. ・ Do as per your stamina and power, which you ought to increase. ・ Take time to play a game with Kids, too. DON'TS ・ Never ever give excuse “I am too old to start my fitness regime.” No negative thoughts. ・ Never bother about others - what will they say or think. ・ Never walk or run on roads / hard surface - knees will be affected in old age. You think you knew what you liked, also looks good on you? We have seen a lot of men, women wearing the most prestigious of brands, but still lack in making even a bit of impression. Have you ever thought why it happens? Well, there's a difference between what appears to be good might not look equally good on you. Just like, “all that glitters is not gold”. One needs to understand a lot of things and one of the most important aspect is liking yourself and your body. So let me just give you some magical tips you can follow every time you buy a piece of clothing for yourself and not make the hideous mistake of ending up looking like
decorated Christmas tree. 1. Know your body type. (Go on fashion websites they are interesting and informative). 2. Know the colours that suit you from shades of light to dark, from bright to dull. 3. Know the fabrics that fall well on your body type and give you contouring shape wherever needed. 4. Know the fits and cuts that give you the best shape, by accentuating focus on the area you what to show and distracting the attention from the area you don't want to be seen. 5. Consider your age. It is hard especially for women to look their own age. But
better. ・ Never sleep immedi ately after meal (> 9 0 minute s). THE LATEST FAD Nowadays, lots of my friends have started LONG DISTANCE CYCLING, in groups - started with 10, 25, 40 km, graduating to 300 km in a day. Apart from fitness, it's a wonderful idea of friendship. You can start with 10 km cycling and make it possible on all Sundays, with family / friends. These kind of activities not only make your healthy body but also your mind. When you visit any sea shore, experience running / walk in sand [on sea shore ] extra advantages -- since saline water not only cures small joint pains but also reduces other infections. Experience there for some time and later you see the change in your joints. These kinds of daily fitness activities will be useful during traveling for when you are bound to walk, lift, boarding, travel or trekking for fun; so be fit otherwise, you lose out on fun and feel left out . I can see a fit & healthy you .... can you, too ? Then start now .......
Nidhi Gandhi believe me you only end up fooling yourself by trying to look 10 years younger. People, who know you, know your age too. Aging is beautiful process and every stage has its charm of dressing. So rather enjoy the variety while moving on with age. 6. Consider the weather, occasion, time (by that I mean morning/evening) and your profession. 7. Last but not the least, do not blindly copy someone. Every individual is different and has his/her own identity. Love and take pride in what you chose and wear. It shows!!!

The World of Cubes It was the starting of our session when our GK Teacher told us about a boy setting a National Record solving the 3 by 3 Rubik's Cube in 40 seconds. I could of think of nothing else but the cube. After school I went home and searched for a Rubik's cube. I found an old cube in my cupboard. Though not very smooth, but I used it. Then, I searched on the internet (you tube) how to solve the Rubik's Cube. I selected a video and learnt the basic techniques. I chose white as my top face. I learnt the first step for solving the Rubik's Cube - The Top Cross. It was quite difficult for me to search the pieces but after some practice it was easy. I moved on to the next step - Top Corners. All this time my father was observing me. He asked that till what time the fever of Rubik's cube will be in me. I said I don't know. He said me that he has ordered a Rubik's cube for me which was quite costly. I was very happy! Then I started to learn to solve the second layer of the cube. It had very long notations. I finally got a new smooth cube. Then I started the next step which was the bottom cross. It was easy to make the bottom cross as it had very short notations. But then were so many steps that it toke me about a day. But then the next step was orienting the last layer. It had very long notations and I had to see from where to do the step. If I do the step from wrong face, then I will have to start it again from the second layer. The next and the last step were swapping the edge pieces. It had the lengthiest notations. Then after that I had solved the cube for the first time! After practicing for a day I could solve the cube on my own. When I timed for the first time, my time was 3 minutes and 27 seconds. There are many kinds of Rubik cubes. For example : 3 by 3, 4 by 4, gear cube, triangular cube, mirror cube, and the biggest cube is the 20 by 20 Rubik cube. Now my average time is 55 seconds. The world record is 5 seconds 55 milliseconds. I practice it every day. It will take me a lot of time to increase my speed. Gaurav Palewar V B, BVM, Trimurti Nagar, Nagpur

Teenage Music Family arguments over teenagers' musiclistening choices are very old. Parents' musical tastes are often very different from those of their teenage children; however, music has the potential to affect emotions. As with adults, music can aid us teenagers to identify, process and express our emotions. Nowadays teenagers, who are making their first acquaintance to one another, use their preferences of music to understand, communicate and build friendship with each other. But the music we are talking about is not Bollywood rather it is the Hollywood –“English” which is attracting majority of teenagers. English songs are often found to be catchy and addictive. Famous bands and groups like One Direction, Maroon 5, Linkin Park, etc have become the basic topic amongst us to talk upon. Currently English music is so highlighted in the minds of youngsters that it overshadows our Bollywood groovy music. Even if the youth sings Bollywood, it has to be from a Ranbir Kapoor, Varun Dhavan or a Siddharth Malhotra film. Presently Hindi Classical, Retro and other Soulful music could be found lying somewhere under the stones which we teenagers are less interested to explore. Just south of the Indian Continent, consisting of 26 coral atolls , each one having 100's of islands, it's a country that has geared
34 20
itself to tourism like none other. You feel it from the moment you land in the country till the time you sadly have to leave. The good part to your travel to Maldives is, the flights cost less so that's one place you can save on. Otherwise yes it is true… the resort stays are expensive but worth the spend. There are over 105 resorts to choose from, ranging from basic accommodation for backpackers and friends looking for budget accommodation, to mid – level and then the luxury, topped by the super luxury. Male , the capital city can be skipped, not much to see or do there. It's best to take
international flights that connect you onwards comfortably to your resort stay. How do you select from 105 resorts? The simplest thing to do is fix up a budget. The budget will help to decide the duration of stay, if you want luxury, stay lesser nights. If you want midlevel perhaps you will be able to jump resorts and stay longer. Another factor that plays an important role in deciding the resorts is, the access from the airport. If it's close by then it's by speedboat which is way cheaper in cost than the far away ones which require micro flights. But if you want to have
the memory of something super from your trip, spend that extra buck and go for a resort that's reachable only by microflight. The flight is small and cramped, but the views are expansive and unending. It's not every day you get to see the grandiose of God's creation. There are many such Wow trips, and this is one of them! When you travel hugely affect the expense of your trip. During the rains between June – August, you can get some really good deals but of course also expect rains and thunder showers to come anytime. Holiday season , last week of December to January 10th is super peak,
avoid if you have budget constraints. Shoulder seasons are best where the climate is good, temperatures are not very high, you have clear skies and it's the best for water activities. So now having done all this, you lastly consider or for some, it just may be the very first consideration – how good is the
reef and the water sports centre at the resort for diving/snorkelling – very important for those who are avid water persons and divers, and of-course food! Once you're on the resort which is on an island you don't have the option of going anywhere to eat but at that resort only. So it's best to have a check on the kind of cuisines available, especially if you are fussy or have specific needs. Most of the resorts serve international cuisine with speciality restaurants, the chefs are Maldivian though a lot come from various countries across the world, most however understand Indian food requirements, always willing to customize something for you so there's no chance of going hungry. Select if you want all your meals included or you want to have it A la Carte. Entertainment at night can range from theme parties at the bar or poolside, dancing, games, karoke and the like. Sorry there is no pub crawls or party hopping in this part of the world. It's a beautiful place to be, and one of the best places to go for Water villas. Clean pristine beaches, peaceful, rejuvenating bliss. Go as a couple, take your kids and family along, renew your vows, re-visit your youth, no matter what no one will come back from Maldives unhappy! This is coming from a person who's been there. But then I love travelling so much, I never regret any place I go ? Have fun…

There is a sea of information on finance, and personal finance in particular, for those who want to wade through it all. But some of my learned friends admit to getting a migraine, the moment the word, “money” is mentioned. It is considered a bit tasteless to discuss money anywhere, except with the banker, CA, or your financial advisor. And even there, most of us like to keep our cards close to the chest, so to speak. It is no wonder that we Indians are one of the most underprepared people when it comes to financial planning. Surprising, considering that we as a nation, are one of the most prolific savers. So I thought, why not put forth some personal finance widgets as a series of articles, that not only give us some handy information but also make us sit up and think about what we are doing with our hard earned money.
There are a lot of DIY websites out there which do a fairly good job of giving a report card of our investments, provided we have the patience to feed the data. Some also give a basic structure of making a financial plan. The squirrel in the animal kingdom is known as the inveterate saver, and the researchers at the University of California, have gathered evidence that the fox squirrels found on their campus are not just mindlessly foraging for food, but are engaging in a long-term savings strategy. Mikel Delgado, a doctoral student in psychology, heads the squirrel research team, has summed it up by saying,”They're saving for the future, and they are really smart about it.”
Perhaps we humans could learn a little something about savings, from the squirrels' strategy of hoarding their nuts. In the next few articles, we would explore some of these strategies The famous Maruti ad of “Kitna deti Hai” in simple squirrel language and also probably sums up our approach towards about some successful investors and investments also. So when one of our their winning ways… knowledgeable friends brags about making a killing in the stockmarket (or so he says!!!), we start buying stocks like there is no tomorrow and overnight, fixed deposits become passé… We are so totally fixated on numbers that we tend to forget a lot of other parameters of evaluation. And the fixation we women have with gold, and men with land, kind of totally skews the basket of investments that we hold, towards assets that are relatively illiquid, which is fine, as long as it suits our plan. So does it really suit our plan, is what we need to find out…

S.F.S., her junior college. But hold on; wait till you read this list. She is a B.A. Graduate in English Literature, done her L.L.B and also has a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism. Phew! Some qualifications there! Infact, she told me, it was her journalism that introduced her to Rotary. Back then, she used to write a weekly newsbeat for Nagpur Times on Rotary Club of Nagpur, and was required to Khushnoor ( Khush = Happy; Noor = attend the Thursday meetings. Little did down the line, Light), true to her name, one feels the she know that some years nd gush of happy, positive aura when one she would become the 2 Lady President meets her. This is what I felt when I met up of the very same Club. with her, her warmth and her smile are Married to Dr. Sanjiv Chugh, a renowned Paediatrician and a Past President of the very stimulating. The Chugh Residence was all that I had Rotary Club Of Nagpur, Khushnoor is a imagined and more. Right from the main proud mother of Karan and Niharika. entrance gate, I realized, every small Karan is a well established professional, corner, niche, space was a piece of art. A married and living in the USA and very well tended garden, beautiful potted Niharika is married in Nagpur. When plants, small rockeries and two lovingly asked about her family, Khushnoor said ferocious dogs led me to the house. And that Dr. Sanjiv is an avid reader, loves there was Khushnoor, grace and poise photography and is a 'yaron ka yaar'. He personified. The house is beautifully done is a very loyal friend and has a treasure of up. As I made myself comfortable in her 'friends for life'. Karan, her son, is the living room, sipping my cold coffee, I quiet, chilled dude and her daughter observed (with admiration) the paintings Niharika is her mother's true copythat adorned her living space walls and bubbly, very creative and full of life. Both was told that most of them are painted by Khushnoor and Sanjiv are extremely fond of their daughter-in-law Antara and sonher and her daughter Niharika. We began chatting and I totally forgot I in-law Juzer. But the apple of their eye is had gone there for an interview. Khushnoor is a very hard working person. She detests lies, cheating and hypocrisy and dislikes unpleasant confrontations. As a Rotary President, she is very excited about her tenure and has a clear vision about the things she wants to achieve this year with her wonderful team. She wants “Back to the Basics as a highlight this year with the idea being that progress and modernization is a wonderful thing for any organization but it should also retain the human touch and values. Lots of Community Projects, The Green City project, Vocational Training for Women and many more apart from the Rotary International projects are already taking shape under her wing. We at Rotary, wish her all the very best and extend our full support to make this year a rocking and a successful year for her.
New Members Manju Shahani It was Micro Biology that brought them together! Born in Kanpur & raised in Nagpur, Dr. Manu was always very studious. With a Bachelors in Dental Surgery from the VSPM College, A Masters from Mumbai & then starting his own practice, didn't leave him much time for socializing. An only son, he has been dutifully attached to his parents. He lost his mother some years ago and his father works and lives in Jam. Esha Ghosh was born in a Bengali family in Kolkatta. Had friends who were Rotarians & wanted to be a part of it one day. When the time came for college, Kolkatta did not offer Micro Biology, so she moved to Shivaji Sciences - Nagpur. Through a common friend she met, shy Manu. Liked him but that was it. BSc over, she went back to Kolkatta. Did her MSc in Applied Genetics from Bengaluru. An Executive MBA from IIM Kolkatta, got a lucrative job at the British High Council & all was hunky dory. But somewhere she remembered this boy from Nagpur, with whom she had stayed in touch. Cupid played its role & wedding bells rang in February of 2011. Soon after on 11-11-11 came Atrij, their first born son. Esha started working with the Raisoni group at an administrative post. She joined the JC movement, where she still is an active member. It was Dr Rajesh Singhania who encouraged Dr Manu to join Rotary. As a couple they are both interested in Community Service. They would love to meet people & are looking forward to making lots of friends. Welcome Dr Manu & Esha!

She fell in love at age 6. Of course she didn't realize it then but she knew that Bhavesh was her very best friend. This was at the Bishop Cotton School. After school, came college. They both did Engineering from the Ramdeobaba College of Engineering. After graduating together in 1999, she started teaching at The Raisoni College, while he got a job with a US based IT company. They kept meeting & got married in 2001 & have lived happily ever after. But the fairytale doesn't end there! She loved to study. And he loved anything that she loved. Thus a supportive husband & an equally supportive mother in law, enabled her to fulfill her dream. An M Tech in Production Engineering. an MBA in Human Resources. a Bachelors in Psychology, a Phd. in Management, a Phd. In Production Engineering, Somewhere in between, she also managed to raise a child. This multi tasking, superwoman, is not satisfied yet. As if the above were not enough, she wants more degrees, (frankly I lost track & count) along with a full time teaching job at her almamater ! Running a home & hearth, looking after an adolescent daughter, she WANTS to do something for society & what better platform than Rotary! So Rotary she has joined, with interests in Community Service, Environment & Fellowship. She first heard of Rotary, through a friend, who suggested her name for the Group Study Exchange. She was chosen as an alternate Candidate, when PP Viju Naidu went at team leader. She did not go with the team but the rapport she made with Viju & his team mates has stayed strong. Lest I forget, she as a kid, had short stints at learning, singing as well as dancing. She is still very fond of both & is reasonable good at it. Rashmi Shahu is surely an asset, for our club to cherish. Welcome! Rashmi, Bhavesh & Aayushi . Thank you Kanchan & Dinesh Naidu for proposing her name.

Letter to Editor the eyes of Rotary are heroes of humanity even though not Rotarian. I commend President Bharat for leading the club and sustaining its high image with year-wide activities. I was particularly interested to read about “Take Rotary Home” story. We had practiced more or less the same system couple of years back in our club with great success. However, for the same reason indicated in your club bulletin, it slowly petered away. You should not give it up. With perseverance you will succeed. Unfortunately, we gave up and now our younger generation leadership is trying to revive it. To Editor Nimish Sutaria, I congratulate him because he has secured his place in the heaven, although it is a long term booking. The reason is that he already had his share of hell as Editor. I know what it means as I served as my Club Bulletin editor for two years after having served as R.I. Director. Incidentally, you have the monthly magazine of the club. Don't you miss weekly bulletin? Probably you are
covering w e e k l y activities through email communicatio n or some other method. I like the quotation of Richard Bach, “what the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly.” If you don't mind, Nimish, I will use it effectively and give you the credit also. Through this letter I congratulate the new President Ms. Khushnoor Chugh who has already taken over. I do not know who the new Editor will be. But I also know that for both the President and the Editor, it will be a hard task to sustain the heights. At the same time, your club has the momentum and vibrancy that the new leadership will treat today's heights as foothills of greater peaks that will be climbed during this year. Greetings and best regards, PRIP Raja Saboo

Dear Rtn. Bharat Goenka and Rtn. Nimish Sutaria, I want to thank you for keeping my name on the mailing list of your club's monthly magazine “The Golden Orange”. I must confess that I am not able to read all the issues thoroughly but knowing its high standard I take time to glance through most of them. I particularly took time to read the July, 2015 issue which covers the year gone bye. I not only commend for the level of the magazine you have kept., this also is a reflection of the dynamic level of the club and its activities. Editor Rtn. Nimish said that the magazine could no longer be considered to be internal bulletin. He is right because the standard that the magazine has sustained, makes it a tool for interesting reading beyond the club members or even the district. Thus, if I may correct, in addition to being an internal bulletin, it serves as a Rotary mouthpiece to describe the essence of fellowship, friendship, camaraderie for taking up noble cause and doing good. You also cover stories of people who in
