OCTOBER 2015 GOLDEN ORANGE
August saw a flurry of activities with visits to the 50 schools allotted to us under ZP MOU. These visits have enabled us to identify their needs. These included Teacher training, augmentation of reading materials in the school libraries, addition of minor sports equipment and of course the big ones like Toilet repairs, Wash facilities, Building repairs and provision of drinking water. It is clear that all of these can be achieved by Rotary with the support of grants and commitments for public representative funds to be ear-marked. Since the Nagpur President's Enclave is spearheading the movement, some ideas have emerged. These are: Eco- friendly LPG cooking gas facilities with the help of service partners and School Management Committees + Gas PSU. This activity can be taken up by Non-Conventional energy and Green City committees. Strengthening libraries, where we have already have achieved success as several schools have already collected loads of books. This activity can be pushed through our Youth Services Committees – an excellent activity for Interact Clubs. Interactors can visit these schools as part of their annual vocational visits and also interact with the ZP school children, participate in joint activities, encourage them for goal setting, and get a better understanding of the privileges they (interactors) enjoy. Urban children often take for granted physical, material and other comforts and privileges for granted. It would be an eye opener both ways and can also be carried out jointly with the Interact School managements. This is another activity where Youth services Committees could find new areas of engagement.

Toilets and school repairs are now being planned along with a move to engage with Service partners, trade and industry bodies, et al. The school building repairs and secure classrooms will enable investment in e-learning through Grant model, which is already put in motion. Provision of Training material and Software for e-learning, wherever schools already have physical facilities and computers in place. Health check up camps and personal hygiene for girls / Rubella vaccinations can be contemplated which is a new target audience for our Medical Services Team which could also tie up with service partners like Nagpur Obstetrics and G y n a e c o l o g i c a l S o c i e t y, I n d i a n Association of Paediatrics, India Medical Association and Lata Mangeshkar Research Foundation, to name a few. Teacher training schedules are worked out and the first such workshops will commence from October with the first one at Modern School. Our members can definitely volunteer and request the
school to also involve the Interactors. Adult Literacycan be pushed using adult literacy kits to good effect, engaging with Rotaract on “Each one, reach one and Teach one” with an aim to get the target audience to appear for tests and get certified as literate. This activity again presents another opportunity to involve the Rotaractors who are already actively engaged in teaching. All of the above can be worked on with the support of one and all committees enabling focused attention to the 50 schools given to us. With involvement of so many committees, various Rotary objectives can be achieved within the same target audience. There could be overall improvement in the surrounds of these schools. -Nimish Sutaria
President’s Message Being a Rotarian is like being a gourmet chef. You have to have all the necessary ingredients in place; toss, blend or mix them right; fry, sauté, blanch or bake before you get the dish to the table. Similarly, Rotary too is an amalgam of passion, compassion, care, dedication, foresight, zeal perception and more. Though our sympathies are always there for the have-nots, one has to do the balancing act all the time. We Rotarians are approached by many for aid in some way or the other. But we have to have a measured view; balancing compassion and need with practicality, sustainability and effectiveness. We have to make our head rule over our heart. Looking beyond this one year, we have to
put the finger on THAT which makes a lasting difference; that which will continue to have an impact for a long time to come. Keeping all this in view, one strives to strike a balance. While some of our little acts of kindness bring instant smiles on the young faces, larger projects are directed towards the good of the community at large. While some need just a sprinkling of resources but large chunks of love and care there are some that need foresight and commitment to fulfill the task. It may seem to many that a large Club such as ours has large resources. Yes, we are not lacking in resources. We are able to fulfill the tasks at hand by keeping a
watchful eye on our expenses but not by pulling the purse strings. Our benevolent well-wishers have always stood by us and judicious utilization of funds has always stood us in good stead. Alike a chef, we have to proportion right to dish out a flavourful fare…and BE A GIFT TO THE WORLD. -Khusnoor Chugh
the day, morning, noon or early evening, whether I am off to Dharampeth or Central Avenue, the roads are adorned with cows- silently sitting, ruminating or standing on the divider with a contemplative look- giving the cars and two wheelers those killer looks, like we are the intruders who have the audacity to trespass into their kingdom. Then this big question comes into my mind, “Is this indeed not a village, albeit an adorable one at that?” In July 2014, after a complaint was lodged by Times of India, offences were registered under Bombay Police Act, for which cattle shed owners could be
imprisoned for a month or fined up to Rs. 3000. Steps are taken by NMC every now and then to get rid of this problem, but them being evanescent vs. the cattle menace being permanent, the problem rears its ugly head every now and then. -Durriya Akolawala

Fifteen years ago, I was not married into so and so family but was married to Nagpur .On my first trip to my native place Kolkata, I was goaded by questions like, “How is the village Nagpur? Did you manage to settle there?” …and so on…. I politely retorted by saying that “IT'S NOT A VILLAGE AT ALL, but a small place with its own heart and identity, where every individual LIVES rather than just E X I S Ti n g , a s w e s e e i n t h e metropolitans.” After so many years, while I drive my car through the heart of the city, I tend to swerve my car often to avoid bumping into stray cattle on the road. Ladies Committee first place by singing lovely saawan numbers from old times. To add to masti and fun were Shilpa and Kanchan hooting when other teams were cheating. The competitive teams were no less, they gave equal fight to all teams. To add to the fun was a small umbrella, which the singers had to carry on their heads while singing. Hina Agrawal added Icing to the Cake with a small jig. The child like enthusiasm was hard to control. Since team Kumkum and Haldi scored same points, both teams were given prizes. There were also small Matki's filled with Mishri and dry fruits as a return gift, a very beautiful gesture by Rt.Ann Priyanka Jaiswal. Saawan brings the onset of festivity and the euphoria never dies. The effort put in by the committee was laudable. They worked hard to bring a

22 Bikes, 6 SUVs and 44 children of the Sevanand School Koradi were at the heart of this project of the Rotary Adventure Group (RAGs). Poonam Chambers was abuzz since 9:30 am with bikers filling up their bikes and getting ready for the ride. At 10 am, after all assembled, we were off to pick up the children from the school. Director Sonia Khurana flagged off the bikers and the SUVs with 44 children of the Sevanand School and we headed for Mr. Sunil John's farm on Katol Road, a beautiful farm surrounded by water on three sides and with lots of fruit and vegetable being grown. “Bikers With Heart” was a concept that had been talked about for many years now but somehow never really got fulfilled. Well, from the looks of how well this event went, I'm sure it is now going to be an annual event in our Rotary calendar. The concept is simple, each biker takes one child pillion for a bike ride, followed
of children running around playing games like Queen of Sheba and four corners, Rt.Ann Sonal Singhvi, Chetna Singhal, Rakhi Bhatia and Jumana kept all the kids entertained. President Khushnoor and PP Sanjiv Chugh reached the spot, with as usual some little addition to the project, this time it was the chicken, chutney and egg sandwiches that our charming President had made
herself. That wasn't the only surprise, Jumana Shakir was celebrating her birthday and all of us enjoyed cake. All in all it was a fun filled day with lots of activity, Chairpersons Rukshad Bhagwagar, Shahrukh Cassad, Pranav Singhal had really worked hard to see that this project like all our other Rotary projects went smooth. Thanks to all that contributed to make this project a grand success. I'm sure the participants of this project are already looking forward to it next year.. -Parheez Gimi

hear visiting surgeons from Mumbai and other places speaking so highly of him. Some others who had donated were also felicitated. Worth a mention here is one Mr Mohril who is a good friend of Dr Ravi. Inspired by Ravi's example, he and his Pathologist wife also decided to donate a kidney each. They offered it to a number of doctors and after 3 yrs. the husband found a recipient. The session today was for the press and the common man. A number of questions were asked and answered. The gist of the matter being that the Government needs to simplify the legalities. Common man should be made aware that his/ her life will be almost normal even after the
donation, as in any other surgery. But what came as a strange and shocking revelation was the fact that most doctors other than nephrologists are themselves not aware of these donations. Unfortunately thus, brain dead cases go unreported. If only the doctor in charge at that time could make such families aware of the noblest of noble act of compassion that they could do! Hopefully soon Nagpur and other cities will become more aware. Thanks to the yeoman service from some of our doctors. DG Nikhil was present both as a Rotarian as well as a doctor. Dr Sameer Chaubey was the convenor Thanks to Rotary! We came back better informed. -Manju Shahani

Making ganpati festival eco-friendly Green City Committee and Youth Committee teamed up to execute a mammoth task of collecting Nirmalaya from Ganesh Mandals. A project was conceptualized by Rotary Enclave which consists of all leading Rotary Clubs in our District 3030 and led by our very own Rtn.Dinesh Naidu. Taking permission from Dr. Milind Ganvir who is the NMC's Health Deputy Director, the Rotary Enclave received 10 mini trucks specially for picking Nirmalya. We named this truck as Nirmalaya Rath. As most of the bulk Nirmalaya comes from Mandals, it was thought to be appropriate to collect them beforehand from the Mandals. This helped lower the collection load at Futala lake. We started Nirmalaya Rath activity 2 days before visarjan. Our first stop was at residence of our Mayor Praveen Datke. He was extremely happy with the drive and willingly gave us all the Nirmalya collected in over 8 days of Ganesh pooja. Grey Zone Eats Shoots & Leaves The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation by Lynne Truss The cover of this book relates an incident. A panda walks into a café. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and fires two shots in the air. “Why?” asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes towards the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder. “I'm a panda,” he says, at the door. “Look it up.” The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation. “Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like animal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves.” So, punctuation really does matter, even if it is only occasionally a matter of life and death. This book, in the author's own words isn't an instruction manual about punctuation. What is it about then? Some self-help

Nimish Sutaria books give you permission to love yourself. This book gives you the permission to love punctuation. It is about how we got the punctuation system, and how a tiny but adaptable system of marks allows us to notate most types of verbal expression. It's a treasure trove of amusing anecdotes and trip-ups for the punctuation vigilante. Yes, there are plenty of these vigilantes out there. The book deals with commonly used (read abused and misused) punctuations like the apostrophe which the English language picked up in the 16th century from the Greek work which means “turning away”, hence implying “omission” or “elision”. Classically used to mark dropped letters as in “wish'd” it evolved in the next two centuries, first, as a singular possessive (the girl's dress is pretty) and then as a plural possessive (the girls' dresses) respectively. It has now spiraled into madness. Most people have no clue whatsoever and would routinely write “Thank God its
Friday” making the vigilante cringe and despair. The correct punctuation is, of course, “it's”! The apostrophe comes in because we want to curtail “it is” and not pronounce “is” fully. This may sound like a drab textbook, but I assure you, it is most certainly not. It goes on to deal with other commonly used punctuations like the comma, dash, colon, et al in a very engaging manner which will appeal to any English language lover. At times mirthful, at times serious and indignant, the book comes with a punctuation repair kit containing numerous stickers. These stickers include commas, question marks, exclamations, semi-colons and full-stops in varying sizes. These are for the punctuation vigilantes like me who love to correct on the go!

Fealty to the Body Cycling my way to fitness I have never played any outdoor sport and my profession meant spending most of my time sitting in an office chair in front of a computer screen. Also, I watched TV for hours after office. What did it result into – back pain, general weakness, indigestion and being sick often. I was trying to change all this and take better control over my health as I was nearing 40. We had just bought a cycle for my son, Gaurav. I started riding it for 5-7 KMs around my house. One weekend I decided to join a cycling group called, Saddle Up Guys for their weekend ride of 40 KMs. I went on the ride but it proved to be a torture for me. I somehow completed the ride and pedalled back home, slept whole day and even fell sick. I decided to find out what's wrong and found that I was riding a MTB ,not a good choice for riding on road and also one size doesn't fit everybody for cycles, Having known that I decided to buy a proper bicycle for me and bought a
good quality hybrid bike. Difference was remarkable, riding became easier and lot of fun. Then I came to know about soon to happen Brevet in Nagpur. Brevets are long distance cycling events where everybody who finishes it is considered a winner, unlike the races. Minimum distance for a Brevet is 200 KM which needs to be completed within 13.5 Hrs. Then there are brevets of 300, 400, 600, 1000 and 1200 KM as well. I began riding 30-40 KMs. daily to train myself. It took just a week of riding for me to graduate to riding 40 KM with ease. Contrary to what you may think riding 40 KM on a good bicycle is really easy. If I can do it, anybody can do it. To have a long ride under my belt before attempting 200 KM, I rode to Saoner and back, 85 KMs, which was tiring but satisfying. I was able to complete 200 KM within time and recently completed 300 KM . I am looking forward to do 400 and 600 KM
Sachin Palewar within a year. Cycling is lot of fun, we do daily what people do on weekends, which is visiting a lake, taking selfie in a forest or beside lush-green fields in villages. Do you know how many lakes we have in just 20 KM radius near Nagpur? You will need to start cycling to find that out. See you peddling on roads soon :-)
Doctor Alert COMMON ANAL PROBLEMS
OCTOBER 2015 GOLDEN ORANGE
Problems in anal area can affect anybody at any age. The common symptoms are pain and bleeding from anus or change in bowel habit. If you have these complains, it's better to see a surgeon with qualification of Masters in Surgery (MS). In PILES, the blood vessels just inside the anus get enlarged. This can occur at any age. The most common explanation for people having piles is prolong straining on passing stool. So the main stay of treatment in bleeding piles is to make stool soft and bulky so that one do not have to strain during defecation. This is done by eating lots of fibre ( salad, fruits, brown bread etc) in diet, drinking lots of water , avoiding prolong sitting in toilet and straining during defecation. Some may need a bulk laxative like Isobghol at least in initial stages,. However if bleeding
22
continues than the piles ( i.e. enlarged blood vessels ) are treated by injection of a “scleroscent” in these blood vessels. FISSURE IN ANO is a 'cut' just inside anus caused by undue straining to pass out hard stool .Patient presents with severe pain (and sometimes slight bleeding) during defecation – which eases later on. Very few patients would require surgery for either failure of conservative treatment or for recurrent fissure in ano. This condition is fairly common in pregnant females. The most dreadful condition of anal region is CANCER . This starts from inside the anus – hence is not felt by patient. More common in elderly, the main complain is change in bowel habit i.e. increasing constipation or straining on defecation or sometimes loose motions mixed with
Dr. Rajesh Singhvi blood. The diagnosis is confirmed by doing examination, usually with help of an endoscope and taking biopsies. The treatment may include a combination of Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy and /or Surgery, depending upon the stage of cancer. To summarise, the cause of most of the disease in anal region is straining to pass out hard faecal matter i.e. constipation. One must avoid constipation at all cost by eating lots of green vegetables and fruits in diet. Recent onset constipation or diarrhoea of more than few weeks in duration, especially after the age of 50 needs medical attention. Early consultation with surgeon is advised.

There's plenty in the way of urbane glamour too, if that's what you're after, with swanky hotels, yacht-filled harbours and cocktail bars aplenty – especially in àla-mode destinations such as Dubrovnik and Hvar. Wherever you go though you'll find that Croatia retains an appeal for independent travellers that are in short supply at more package-oriented
destinations elsewhere in the Mediterranean. Cities to visit while in Croatia : some of the more important places to see Dubrovnik : Dubrovnik is city with fortified walls and a long history in the south of Croatia facing the Adriatic Ocean. Dubrovnik Old City is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most famous and memorable parts of the city are to be seen down near the waterfront, At the heart of the old town is the distinctive clock tower that looks over a nice square. While in Dubrovnik a visit to the MUSEUMS OF DUBROVNIK and the BEACH should be in the list. Zegreb: Zegreb is the capital of Croatia. It is not the kind of city you fall in love with at first sight, What the city does offer is a uniquely vivacious café life and a year-round programme of heavy-duty art exhibitions. A land mark of the city is Museum of Contemporary Art. Zegreb is famous for arty fun which extends into its nightlife, with cutting-edge clubs, live gig venues and summer festivals that would put many a central European city to shame. Zadar: Zadar was bombed no fewer than 72 times by the Allies during World War II, Today with a popu, ation of 75,000 it is one of the most interssting towns of Croatioa. The pleasant muddle of architectural styles,
Atul Gupta Corinthian columns and Romanesque churches are a treat to your eyes . Below are a must do's while in Croatia “ Sunset in Zadar Alfred Hitchcock raved about them, and you will be bowled over too, especially now sunsets in Zadar are accompanied by the complimentary sound-and-light effects of the famous Greeting to the Sun and Sea Organ art installations Walking Dubrovnik's walls The briefest of trots round the battlements will serve as a breathtaking introduction to this ancient city Plitvice Lakes National Park A bewitching sequence of foaming waterfalls and turquoise lakes, hemmed in by forest-clad hills. Walking the Premulic Trail Croatia's most exhilarating long-distance hiking route takes in mountain ridges, dense forests and awesome views. Pula Amphitheatre Imperial Rome's greatest gift to the eastern Adriatic, this awesome arena still serves as the venue for pack-'em-in summertime concerts. HVAR Town ; The swankiest resort on the Adriatic is full of temptations, whether you're a culture vulture, Mediterranean foodie or cocktailbar cruiser.

INtelligent INvestment Vinita Bahri PERSONAL FINANCE WIDGETS Ek Chutki Darrr ki kimat tum kya jaano editor bibi…. Well, its definitely enough to turn the Boulevards of Greed into Streets of Paralyzing Fear. Last month has been a roller coaster ride across the globe across all financial assets. First we have the US threatening raise interest rates, then China preempts that by devaluing their currency, and the rest of the world follows. The prophets of doom are now crawling out of the woodwork and suddenly, what seemed like a few depressed economists venting their frustration, is now gathering momentum and if left unchecked, could become a self fulfilling prophecy ! There are a hundred reasons according to the researchers, why the sea levels should have inundated the earth by now, or the depleting ozone layer should have made tandoori chicken out of us all, but what do you know?!! Even the ice on the Killimanjaro is still there!! Each one of those hundred reasons is a valid one to harm the earth, but does it have the capability of complete destruction, and is the entire world going to allow that to happen? I think not.
The financial markets are deeply interwoven and more than the markets, CNBCs and the CNNs are available across the world, busy fuelling frenzy whether it is a buying one or a selling one. Because….. normal is boring, and does'nt get TRPs! So now we have a Shemitah to add to the financial gobbledegook…and one more reason for financial meltdown. So what is Shemitah? Shemitah is basically a jewish Sabbath year. In the olden days, when agriculture was the main occupation of most people, it was so decreed that after six years of harvest, the land must be left fallow for one year to recoup its fertility and all outstanding debts must be waived in that year. So logically speaking, the Shemitah year would be a no growth year, no production year,no income year!!It was a year of spiritual awakening and contemplation. Today Shemitah is being touted as the Financial Holocaust!! And we still have a hundred more valid reasons why the financial markets should be decimated, like the huge debt pile that each country has amassed, then the fact that people are being stupid enough not to buy more cars and homes, and then of
course, the west is growing old, and needs more social security and healthcare…. Investor psychology is an amazing thing, it is predictable, unlike anything else. Fear and greed are the cornerstones of this subject. Greedy squirrels gather more acorns than they can bury and actually remember where they buried them. Net effect, they will only get what they actually need. Scared and fearful squirrels will keep digging out their acorns every other day and find new hiding places ..till they forget the last hiding place. Net effect, definitely not bountiful. Smart squirrels will calculate exactly how many acorns are needed to tide over the winter, put them away systematically, and retrieve them as and when needed. Fear is a much stronger emotion than greed. And the wrong decisions are mostly made when one is fearful. Investors who are able to conquer these two emotions are the ones who will always make the right investment decisions.

Smart Alec NEWS ABUSE A 2nd wife of her 3rd husband is charged along with her 2nd husband for killing her daughter from her 1st husband who was having an affair with her 3rd husband's son from his 1st wife. Not funny enough? Here is another one... Teacher: Who is your role model? Student: Indrani Mukherjea... Teacher: Why? Student: See Madam, Abdul Kalam passed away, no debate. Sania won Wimbledon...10 minutes coverage. 4-5 IAS toppers are women, do we even know their names? Indian Women's Hockey team got entry into the Olympics after 20 years...have we even heard of it? But Indrani Mukherjea is all over! Still not funny? It really is not! In fact it is downright ridiculous. In a world where personal space is increasingly getting confined, the media's handling of the Indrani Mukherjea case is a firm statement that nothing is personal anymore. Beware if you ever said anything, put something on Facebook on a weird, moody day. It will all be taken, put into context that suits the situation and put on national television for millions to see and judge your entire life based on it. This is abuse at the highest level. This is worse than Arnab Goswami silencing experts and critics alike just because he can shout
louder than them on his channel, claiming that the nation wants to know. What the nation actually wants to know is that is there such a lack of good fictional thrillers on TV that news channels have to fill that space? Is there such a lack of good journalism? Or, have we finally decided that as a country we only want gossip, hearsay and selective plants from the police to be shown as the only news story? According to the Department of Advertising and Visual Publicity, cable and satellite TV news viewers in towns with population over a lakh has grown from 14 crore in 2011 to 19 crore in 2015. But for English news channels, it's not good news. For them, viewership has shrunk by almost 60 per cent. Shrinking consumer base means revenues getting hit, and that's never acceptable. Ergo, it doesn't matter what it is as long as it sells. So, is this the future of news? Is this what we as Indians want to see as crucial relevant information that matters? Or are we just a number in the bottomline that needs to grow larger every quarter to keep the television fat cats rolling in the green? The nation wants to know. It's high time.

Fashion with Finesse Fashion is a form of dressing, so abhorrent to people that they need to change it every six months! This wise observation was made by Oscar Wilde. He was clearly wise and observant. Actually, it depends how seriously you take fashion. It's almost a religion for some and not for others; either you follow it or shun it. Fashion to some, is an extension of one's personality, some say it's being in sync with the current trends. To me, Fashion is trends created by a bunch of marketing geniuses who recycle trends every 10 years in circulation. These smart people basically tell you to discard your fairly new clothes, shoes and accessories, to buy still newer ones. These people are called Designers. People who create their own fashion statement, without following the trends, are the true style gurus. There are many fashion victims around, who succumb to the pressure. There is nothing wrong with it. The smartness comes from, not blindly following the trend, it lies in knowing your body type and getting your money's worth. Fashion and Style are different
aspects of a personality, yet it's interrelated. Real style does not come from following trends, it comes from how one can put various things together creatively and make a unique statement. One garment, that has no bias against any shape or size, and has stood the tests of time, is our very own Humble Sari. Though, not humble any more. It has developed an attitude. Rightly so, because, it's a garment, which has braved the onslaught of numerous fashion trends and is still revered as the most elegant garment, nationally and internationally. Trends come and go, but the sari remains constant. A lot of International and National designers have taken inspirations from the sari, be it in the form of gowns or short dresses. A sari is the most versatile garment. It can be flowy; it can be teamed up with tank tops, bikini tops, backless blouses, sleeveless blouses and full sleeved blouses et al. With each outing, it spells versatility, elegance and a uniqueness which is essentially its own. A sari doesn't conform to any shape or size. And of late, it has broken the traditional
barrier too. Every region in India has a unique way of draping the sari, be it in Bengal, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, UP or MP. It can be worn in a lungi fashion, pre-stitched, zipped up or simply flowing, like frothy cloud. No other garment can boast of the numerous “Looks” it can achieve, given the simplicity of this 6 yards of unstitched cloth. It can be embellished, embroidered, dyed, printed, to suit every mood. It's the Little Black Dress or the LBD of India. Just like the western world relies heavily on the safe LBD for any occasion, the humble sari can be worn anytime, anywhere and on any occasion. Such is the magic of a sari. Besides crossing the barrier of trends, it's the only garment which cannot be classified as “ Out of Fashion”. The sari is always “In fashion” and will always enjoy a cult status. Needless to say, fashion is intrinsically woven into the sari, yet it's totally free from it!

The True Heroes Manish Bhati Just recall the last time you snubbed a kid at a traffic signal after he or she knocked at your car windowpane. Have you ever given a thought to what compels children to beg and get screamed at, even in extreme weather conditions? My thoughts are no different from yours; I hate the site of these children begging on traffic signals. It was just another day when I was driving from Lokmat Square towards Sitabuldi, waiting at the Panchsheel Square signal and saw a little girl aged about ten, begging. I looked up at the signal, which showed another 70 seconds to go. As she moved towards my car with a sad crying face, I saw her limping, a bandage on her right foot. As she came by, I lowered the window pane and asked. Me : ? ?? ? ?? ? ?? ? ?? She: ? ?? ? ? ???| Me : ? ? ??

A chip of the old block, Sachin belongs to the renowned Mulanis. From childhood he knew that Philanthropy was an integral part of his family. And what better platform, than Rotary to be able to give back to society ! This is what his dad- Rajan & uncle- Hira have been doing for the last so many years. Though a Round Tabler, he was determined to be a part of Rotary one day. That day dawned, last month when Sachin & Kamya were inducted. Kamya provides an excellent foil to Sachin's personality! She comes from a similar background in Agra, where her grandfather helped needy girls for their education. He also cared for the senior citizens. Not one for showbaazi, he would help silently and many a times even the family was not aware. A Nagpurian to the core, Sachin has been born and raised here and would never want to settle anywhere else. So also Kamya, who has come to love her new home in Nagpur though Pune as a city holds first position. Her maternal family lives there and she did her college there. They both love to travel and have been to a number of places both in India and abroad but Nagpur is HOME. Blessed with two boys - Daksh who is 9 and in the 4th grade. And Garv who is 6 & in the 1st grade at Centre Point School,

On the Board Dont Change so people will like you. Be yourself & the right people will love the real you.' When I met Nilufer Rana for a tete-a -tete the first thing that strike me is her versatility. She has a passion for all things that life has to offer and more. She comes out as one who is high on life. A true Parsi, born and brought up in Mumbai and has made Nagpur her home since 18 years. Nilufer grew up in Malad. like a typical Mumbai kid and got an all round development as she had an penchant for sports and extra curricular activities from her early years. She has done her schooling from Carmel of St Josephs and graduation in Commerce from Mithibai College. Then she went on to do her Masters from Sydenham while doing Cost as well. Her yearning to learn more did not stop here and she got a degree in Fashion Designing from Fashion Institute and Designing and also
did a computer course for 2 years from Aptech. Nilufer then went on to work for Hindujas in Mumbai when she was engaged to be married to Mehernosh Rana . Soon she got married and came to Nagpur. Married to Mehernosh ,a boy born with a silver spoon in the family of 'Dinshaws', Central India's famous Ice-cream brand. A very interesting fact I got to know that Mehernosh's Grand father Dinshaw Rana started making Ice-cream from a cow shed and built the company from there. Their home is a statuesque mansion which has an old world charm with all the modern flair. The lawns and the gardens are well maintained with great care and a ideal place to relax .With three grown up kids there is a lot of hustle bustle happening in the household. Zenia,17 is her first born, a budding artist whose paintings adorn the walls of their home. She wants to do Fashion designing
and modeling and has already modeled for Femina when she was in Std 9th. Jinaisha is 11 and Tarounish is 10 years old, both studying in Centre Point. What I realized when I met Nilufer is that her propensity to do everything diligently has brought a balance in her life. She had no inkling about Rotary and was introduced to Rotary by her Uncle Jehangir Doongaji in 2004 and since then Rotary has been an integral part of her life. She started as a novice attending all the projects and giving as much time she could give and like an ardent learner she gelled well in the Club. Our very own Joint Secretary for 201516, has served in the board before, firstly as a Director International Services and then as Sergeant at Arms. This is the third time she is on the board. She has very innovative programs and projects lined up for the year ahead. The Sports Carnival in October is one which is surely going to be a winner. Last year we all saw Nilufer come out as an ingenious performer and honing her skills as a singer in the all girls Power Band which won hearts of all in ladies meet. Then there was no stopping the rock music lover to perform on various avenues like Happy Streets. Now Nilufer has formed a band with her 2 partners and named it" Hum 3 Acoustics" and are organizing a Music Festival only for ladies with all the hoopla that goes with it. Heres wishing Nilufer all the best in all her endeavors and a blessed and happy life.
