President’s Message We in Rotary, have a dream…… It's to bring to India Literacy, Sanitation and Hygiene of the highest order. It's not a Utopian dream, one knows. But, it's a dream which will require myriad hands and minds to work in unison to make this dream a reality. That is why NGO's like Rotary have set up RILM (Rotary India Literacy Mission). Rotary has set to work in right earnest ; to set right the wrongs and provide the missing links. When our teams fanned out to take a look at the rural schools, it was an eye-opener. Structures in the name of schools were there; there were some desks and benches in the name of furniture in some schools, toilets were an utter mess to say the least ! The commonality, however, was the lack of teachers . Pitiable ! The students, who are the heart –beat of
any school were there. From the way their faces lit up on seeing us visitors to the way they bade us good-bye , we could sense there was a spark in them waiting to be ignited. That's the similarity in all kids. Even nearer home, when we visit our Interact schools which are well equipped with all the paraphernalia, we feel the need to motivate the students. Children everywhere are the same. Their enthusiasm is palpable. They are all malleable and they are ready to go that extra mile to make a difference to themselves or to someone , somewhere ! If only we, as parents , teachers, Rotarians take it upon ourselves not to lose out on the precious years of these invaluable children. It's up to us to capture their innocence, utilize their positive energy and motivate them to do the right thing at the
right time. Let us all work together towards giving our generation next HAPPY SCHOOLS. Let us nurture these young lives in such a way that they become WORTHY CITIZENS. Let us teach these young hands to mould their future. Let us train these young minds to distinguish between right and wrong .After all, they are a gift to us. Can WE not be a gift to them? Khushnoor S.Chugh
My thoughts... vice –prefect. The innocent banter... And in the later years, running across the stations in Bombay to catch a local, hoping for a 'fourth' seat at least on the train, trudging through flooded over/under bridges to cross platforms, rushing to college/office to equally drenched colleagues. Sipping a cup of hot coffee watching the rains lash across Marine drive/Nariman point. On a very 'vela' day walking to the sea shore to experience the waves of the Arabian sea drenching you from head to toe. To now....sitting on the window bench, working on my laptop and hoping the rains stop for a while so that the daily activities can be done without any hassle

As the skies darken, the clouds burst and we are showered with heavy rains, nostalgia creeps in slowly and the ghazal by Jagjit Singh comes to the mind : ''Ye Daulat bhi lelo shohrat bhi le lo Bhale chhin mujhse meri jawaani Magar mujhko lota de Bachpan ka sawan Woh Kagaz ki Kashti woh baarish ka paani '' Memories come flooding (!) back. The innocent days of getting drenched in the rain, jumping over puddles, making paper boats, football in the rain, use of corn in every meal. The first few days of school, excitement over a new class and classfellows, selection of the prefect and

Letters to the Editors Golden Orange Dear editor, Wow ! If the last year's GO had all the unstoppable flow of back to back uploadings of events & activities in it then the first GO August edition with its freshly peeled look & buzzing confidence in terms of innovative streaks of approach, seems to be dipped in unbeatable spark. It smells of the youngish feel of some of the columnists zipping through with a smacky sense of enviable energy page to page. I loved it. But can't help mentioning the splashes of life skill programs spread all across. On feb 22nd 2012 PP when PP Atul Shah invited me to join as a chairperson of a newly instituted committee called the
lifeskill committee I was more than happy & totally believed that its high time that we bequeath to our rotractors & interactors some special set of skills training which they get deprived in their routine curriculum but which they badly need in every walk of life be it personal, academics or career building. Since it was my own field it was all the more easy & interesting with the young Sonal Singhvi& the veteran Sharad Bhave. We did around 18 workshops that term 13-14 more in colleges. Lifeskill programs got further impetus next year too with director Jatin Sampat putting enthusiasm in it & we thoroughly enjoyed our work. In year 2014-15 as director Vocational Services our team life skill took to furthering this fervour with 31 workshops specially for interactors under our

Happy Schools seems a distant dream for the children studying in ZP Schools, but Rotary has taken it up as a Mega Project and with the dedication and hard work of the Rotarians we shall soon see significant changes in the 50 schools allotted to us at Rotary Club Of Nagpur. Our ready to help volunteers, namely PE Alok Goenka, PDG Vishwas, PP Shabbir, PP Gulab Mahant, Rtn Litesh Thakkar, Rtn Mohd Master, Rtn Shiv Rao geared up their respective teams. They were supported by President Khushnoor, PP Tauby, PP Rajan Bhatia, Rtn Sharad Bhave, PP Vijay Naidu, Rtn Sharad Paliwal, Rtn Parag Date, Rtn Shashank Pande, Rtn Mohan Anand, Rtn Kevinder Talwar, Rtn Tushar Singhvi, Rtn Sarang Upganlawar, Rtn Rajesh Yadav, Rtn Nimish Sutaria and Rtn Pranav Singhal. These few good men and women undertook what appeared to be a herculean task of taking the first step of

surveying the schools, to gauge the actual ground scenario there. Our children are getting the best of the best, but for the ZP School Children it is not even 5% of it. We have summarized and identified a few things which are worth sharing for inputs, guidance and support in due course. Toilets are a major concern, Water is a huge point both for sanitation as well as drinking, Compound walls, Building structure, Electricity, these are some of the major points identified, apart from library, sports equipment to name a few. One common solution identified is provision of cooking gas (LPG) as a medium to cook the meals vis-à-vis firewood used as on date. We want to stop this usage as it is not eco friendly. We intend to get these schools Gas Connection in their names in collaboration with the PSU gas companies, helping them to procure one Gas Stove and two Gas Cylinders per
school, so that we make an immediate impact. In addition, we intend to ask our interactors to collect old books to improve the collection at individual schools. Another very important aspect to be addressed is teacher training, improvement of teaching aids and ensuring water and sanitation. Also footwear is one concern we can address immediately with minimal efforts by taking help from our interactors and rotaractors All these will require the whole hearted support and virtual adoption of schools in maybe sets of two or more, by each team to ensure that by rotation visits can be done to monitor progress. Our Goal is to bring smiles and spread happiness by contributing our bit for the future generations of our country. -Pranav Singhal

One Mission One Goal -Combat Global Warming
SEPTEMBER 2015 GOLDEN ORANGE
We all know that global warming is the biggest concern for the world today. To contribute to the cause this year the rotaract committee is following the theme “OMOG” – One mission One Goal of working towards Global warming. The first step towards OMOG is the “Combat Global Warming project” where the dedicated Green city committee and rotaract committee are working hand in hand, wherein plantation is being done at the houses of Rotarians and Rotaractors. The enthusiastic team of chairpersons & rotaract members under the guidance of Rtn Jatin Sampat, Rtn Raj Shah, Rtn Sarang Kale & Rtn Reeti Khanna have their boots tightened on Sunday mornings, who carry the fruit saplings to the houses and plant them along with the rotarians. The rotaract club members then present a hand made card to the rotarian thanking them for their gesture and lending their hand in the cause. All smiles about the project, Vaishnavi Telrandhe, President Rotaract Club of SRWC said “The project not only gave us a chance to contribute to the global cause of reducing global warming but moreover we were overwhelmed with the warm
28
welcome we received at the homes of rotary members. Thanks and looking forward for such activities.” Sandeep Dubey, President Rotaract club of IGGMC had to say “Trees have furnished us with two of life's essentials, Food and Oxygen. It's an important part of every community. The main reason we like trees is because they are both beautiful and majestic. The initiative
taken by Rotary club of Nagpur on project one mission one goal is appreciable and we are thankful for giving us this opportunity.” Considering the theme of this year, Being a gift to The World, Smita Burrewar , President of Tulsiramji Gaikwad Patil College of Architecture said “I feel tree plantation is the best gift that you can give
to the nature. Moreover the best part of the project is working in groups with members of other rotaract clubs & also with rotarians who treat us like their friends. Thanks to rotary club for organizing this project” Last but not the least Ronald John, President, Rotaract Club of Hislop College stated in a musical way, “Tree Plantation Is Not An Activity Now, As I did it By Myself, I Realised That It Is A Core Contribution By Us Towards The Nature And the best Part is The Teams Which Are Made By mixing Up all the Rotaract Clubs” So far more than 30 Households and more than 60 trees/saplings have been planted and the team is geared up for a bigger target. A big credit goes to the green city committee of dedicated chairpersons who take care of the technical and who spare their time for the project. We hope that the team is welcomed by every rotarian as we say charity begins at home ! So what do you what do you want to see blooming at your houses, Basil/ Lime/ Guava/ Aloe Vera/Kadipatta ? Hope to see you soon !!! - Shweta Singh

Project Possible! Shabbir Shakir Literacy – The Panacea to all ills!!!!! Our world is faced with numerous problems – poverty, hunger, terrorism, fundamentalism, lack of health facilities........the list is endless. We either address all these problems individually, and in the process take a life time, or wish it away with the single stroke of a magic wand. That magic wand is Literacy!!!!! Make every one literate, ignite the fire for knowledge, instil skill sets and they will be ready to face all that comes their way. Literacy is supposed to be the first baby step which stirs up the thirst for more within an individual. It is supposed to create an urge for more, with an understanding that it is the best investment. An investment that can never go waste! An investment that will stand any test of time! An investment that cannot be destroyed, stolen or lost!! The world has woken up to this fact a bit late, but not too late. The paradox here is that my education, in isolation, is not sufficient. It is imperative that my environment has to be educated too.
Education will lead up to employability, better lifestyles, self esteem, tolerance and above all a reason to live. The thought process is now in place. And, yes, this was the difficult part. It is time that we put this thought into action in a 'Literate' way rather than a haphazard one. Because, faulty action can be as bad maybe worse than no action at all...... Rotary can have a crucial role to play in this endeavour. Post the Polio campaign success, Rotary could not have chosen a more worthy cause. Now that it has, we have to put our mite to take it forward. We have to even galvanise the governmental agencies, administration of schools, village elders and the common man into positive action. Structured planning is the way forward. Adoption of schools by specifically identified members, analysis of the existing infrastructure, identification of gaps and a plan to fill in the gaps is the beginning. Implementation is the next step. The short and medium term will see us partnering with the government, playing
the role of a mentor and a watchdog, planning and implementing action and resources to make the schools good enough to attract students, hold their interest and dispense quality education. The analysis right now covers existing infrastructure, which includes classrooms, libraries, toilets, playgrounds, kitchen facilities et al. The teaching staff in the school is another aspect under analysis. The recommendations at the initial stages will cover these aspects and will also suggest a roadmap in terms of time, effort and resources to make it happen. The 'time, effort and resources' will be a team work of the government and the community, with us as mentors and watchdogs. We have to ensure that the resources are put to best use and stewardship is sacrosanct. The Literacy drive has the potential of changing the world for the better. Passion is the key word!!!!! Passion to 'Be a Gift to the World'!!!!!

Hemalkasa surgical camp has been my place of pilgrimage for the last 18 years. It has metamophorsed a needle fearing me to a bold individual. Infact the Amte family and the magnanimous hearted doctors have become my extended family . Dr. Govardhan who has nicknamed me 'annapurna' and Dr Joglekar deserve special mention and they have been my source of inspiration. Instances of rotary generosity are limitless. When I approached Dr. Shaunak Mokadam, with a request of cataract

operation for a financially needy friend , he sweetly told me to order and not request . Again, another acquaintance suffering from cancer approached me and I took her to Dr. Govardhan and then to Dr Joglekar. both these patients have felt the humble service of rotarians and they now are operated and living happy lives the Rotaryannes are a mirror image of generosity too. On many occasions they have come forward to help the indigent, whether it was gathering 60000 for an accident patient or accumulating money
for the marriage of two poor girls. Kudos to rotary for giving us a platform to show our humane side. My early morning prayers are always to be of help to the others and to show the true spirit of our club. As truly said “service above self” and to be “a gift to the world”. -Neeru Bhatia
Smart Alec BAN THE BAN Our politicians have two pastimes. The first is making truckloads of money, though that is more of a fulltime occupation than a pastime. The second is banning things left, right, centre. They ban beef because cows are holy .... in the same breath they go on record to say that the woman who got gang-raped probably deserved it. Maggi is harmful for health .... Gutkha and cigarettes are not. Kissing in public is banned .... pissing is not. Porn is banned .... female foeticide is our birthright. The recent ban on BBC's controversial documentary “India's Daughter” has proved that the BJP government is more concerned about India's image worldwide rather than the safety of its women. The government's reaction to everything controversial is to ban it, making BJP the Ban Janata Party. These days you cannot do anything if even one knowit-all in power takes offense to it.
Take the curious case of the common man in Mumbai for instance. He lives in a one room apartment with six other family members. He gets out of the house and jostles with crowds every step of the way to his office across town, the commute of which takes the better part of two hours. The same process is repeated on the way back. He cannot take his girlfriend to a hotel for a private tryst for fear of the cops raiding the place. He cannot watch porn at home because four siblings and parents breathe down his neck at all times. He cannot watch naughty clips on his mobile because a random cop again can confiscate the instrument or book him under some random act. He can swear in private but cannot watch film stars do it on screen. His small ray of hope in watching some nudity promised on the poster outside is squashed by the censor board inside. On the way back home in the packed local train he is
Sohrab Kanga left wondering how India is the most populous country on earth when his government is thwarting every attempt of his in adding to the figure.... Though this may not be the norm it certainly illustrates how the government has begun regulating our lives. Whatever happened to freedom being our basic birthright? Aren't issues like terrorism, dowry, disease, education, farmer suicides, Rahul Gandhi's speeches and Modi's next foreign visit more important than these frivolous bans? Aren't we, as responsible adults, supposed to know what is good for us and what isn't? Do we need some uneducated, uncouth, corrupt, crass, gutkha chewing, public-spitting, rhetoric-spewing leader telling us how to live our lives? Isn't it time to ban the bans?

Doctor Alert Dr. Shaunak P Mokadam Eye Update Hello friends, even today the most common cause for patients consultation with an eye specialist is refractive error or glasses. So let me briefly update you regarding the newer treatment modalities for this common eye problem. The refractive errors are mainly classified as Myopia or near sightedness, Hypermetropia or far sightedness and Presbyopia or the near vision glass people need after forty years of age. We have to differentiate the treatment options age wise since there is definite progression with age and also based upon the quantum of refractive error or power. In children, as and when they are diagnosed, the first choice is glasses. Once they are about 12-14 and start becoming independent we can consider contact lenses. These usually would be in the form of disposable soft contact lenses, which could be worn for about 12-14 hrs per day at a stretch.
SEPTEMBER 2015 GOLDEN ORANGE
There are the Daily Disposable lenses which are one day use only lenses. They have the biggest advantage of zero maintenance, as, everyday, you open a new pack, apply the lens and at the end of the day, just discard the lens. Then there are fortnightly, monthly and quarterly disposable types available aswell, which help to economise the cost but do add up the maintenance hassle.
32
Hard lenses or the RGP lenses are the older alternatives, which have a very wide power correction capability, but are little uncomfortable in the eye. They need some time to get adjusted to. They are the best options for a patient with higher powers or irregular astigmatism. They also have been known to arrest the progression of the power. LASIK or Laser correction of power is another modality of treatment, wherein the requisite power is adjusted by doing surgery with Laser, on the patient's cornea (the transparent front portion of the eye,
which is generally called as 'black portion'). It is an irreversible procedure and usually non-repeatable. It does have some limitations of patient selection. Those with thin corneas and those having powers higher than -12 cannot go in for LASIK. As of date LASIK is the most accurate & successful method of making the individual spectacle free. After a thorough check up of cornea using modern machines like Atlas Topographer, Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography, Visante Omni and WASCA analyser, the newer LASIK machines using 'Wave Front' technology can bring about a near perfect correction. LASIK could be done for all ages after the power progression stops around 18 to 20 years of age. Even after treatment minor power correction may still be necessary because healing response of each individual differs. In the younger population it helps to make the individual spectacle free. For the forty plus age group it helps to get rid of the distance vision glass. This reduces the thickness of the glass giving a better visual quality and cosmetic appearance. Selection for certain jobs is not possible if spectacles are to be used. Similarly, young girls and boys of marriageable age, are happy to get rid of spectacles after LASIK. For those above forty, the near vision glass is still necessary for reading, writing or computer work even after LASIK.
Multifocal contact lenses. They are in the monthly disposable format and come as pack of six lenses. They do have some limitation as to the amount of power they can correct. Some top-up glasses maybe required in some individuals. But again the aim is spectacle independence. Ortho Keratology lenses are hard lenses to be worn overnight, so as to make the individual spectacle free during the waking hours. It was once discarded as an obsolete method, but is now making a comeback with a newer design of lenses. The only drawback of the treatment is the variability of the power throughout the day. For individuals unfit for LASIK, ICL (Implantable Collamer Lenses) is the next best surgical correction. This implies surgically implanting a collamer lens in front of the natural lens of the eye. Regular Cataract surgery with an Intraocular Lens (IOL), is now refined to help provide spectacle independence for all ages. For individuals above forty and desirous of spectacle independence, Presbyopic Lens exchange with Multi-focal IOL for both eyes sequentially is now gaining popularity. Post surgery, the vision for both distance and near is good. Though
With the newer Presbyond treatment in the Zeiss LASIK laser system, it is possible to correct this issue aswell, wherein basically one eye is made near dominant and the other distant dominant with a good intermediate working distance. This procedure is meant to make the individual spectacle independent. Thus it is best suited for high flying executives, house-wives but not suited for skilled artisans.
These are but few of the options available
The other development for the population above forty, is the presbyopic or
day to day activities and life-style.
some people, sometimes, might require minor glasses after surgery, which are single vision glasses. Clear Lens extraction with Multi-focal IOL is a procedure for those individuals who are in the presbyopic age, with high myopia and desirous of spectacle independence. today and have to be tailored to a patients

Weight training is a kind of exercise which involves lifting weights to strengthen your muscles and increase metabolism. It can be done by using weights like dumbbells, kettlebells and weight training machines. Since, I belong to this field the frequent queries are: 1) Cardiovascular exercises like treadmills burn more calories than lifting weight, so its waste of time going to gym. I simply tell them NO. Working with weight can improve your strength. And the fantastic inch loss one targets can be achieved much easily through weight training. Cardiovascular activity is great for stamina, heart & lungs & burning calories but if you combine it with weight training it will strengthen your muscles increase your basal metabolic rate. So, for every additional pound of muscles you gain your body burns around 50 extra calories 1 day. So in long term you'll not only get stronger but thinner. 2) I have started weight training for weight loss but am depressed that I am not reducing weight. Ans:-Do not be disheartened if you haven't reduced weight initially or may have gained a little. Because muscle weighs more per square inch than fat. So, though you are reducing fats & putting on healthy muscles it will reflect the
same on weighing machine. But definitely you can see better toned “you” in the mirror. 3) Should women do weight training? Will I look muscular like men do? Ans.:-definitely. All women must do weight training –It's in fact more important for women to do weight training. You'll never look like men with weight training unless & until you strive for it. As men have testosterone hormones which are important for development of muscles shape. As women have low level of testosterone & majorly estrogens, it does not lead to bulky & butch physique. Weight training is the only exercise which increase your Bone density. As the women start ageing they start having osteoporosis, so having a strong muscles means a stronger and a firm support to bones as muscles engulf the bones. So chances of injury and fractures minimise when one has strong muscles. It's good for women as it keeps a better hormonal balance well. So, coping up with menopausal blues for women over 40 becomes very comfortable if they are regular with their weight training. 4) I m 45 too old for going to gym for weight training. It's all fads of young boys and girls who want to make all “Dolle Sholle.” Ans: - No, in fact building a little extra muscle can actually reduce the risk of injury.Stro n g musc les, ten don s and ligame nts are much more capable of withstanding stress, and the i m p r o v e d flexibility gained
by strength training also reduces the likelihood of pulled muscles and back pain.Resistance exercise can reduce bone deterioration and build bone mass, preventing osteoporosis. Working your muscles can also inhibit the affects of sarcopenia, the age related loss of muscle mass, strength and function. After the age of thirty there is a loss of 35% of muscle mass per decade, making day to day tasks gradually harder to perform and slowing down metabolism which in turn increases the risk of weight gain.weight training acts no less than any ''Anti ageing miracle”.Believe me I have a lady coming to our gym 'as young as 82 years' doing fantastic weight training exercises with full vigour and energy. 5) How can weight training make me healthier? Ans.:-Researches have shown that it has excellent control over insulin resistance, blood pressure, and body fat& gastrointestinal transit time. So it's very good for diabetics & even heart diseases. So one should start with moderate weight training & gradually start increasing under a guidance of professional trainers for injury free effective weight training. Make sure to have resting time of 48 hrs between the same muscle groups to have proper recovery & growth of the muscle. If you have less time it would be good idea to target major muscle groups like chest, back & legs. & a little time for minor muscle will take you a long way. Having a proper diet while weight training rich in proteins is extremely important. Because if you eat properly, at right time, right quantity & right quality will reap a big benefits. Importance of diet & exercise is 50-50. So feel healthy, look best which in turn makes you feel better & relish the benefits for the rest of life.

Fashion with Finesse Madhavi Naidu
SEPTEMBER 2015 GOLDEN ORANGE
"Fashion is what you're offered four times a year. Style is what least a day before the event... That way you can be sure as to what goes with what, what you pick out of that fashion". Whoever said this... Couldn't have said it any better. In this day shoes, whether the fit is right, what accessories and age where everything is available at the click of the button etc....and also gives you a chance and time to and when we are constantly bombarded with images of latest change your mind in case you are not happy fashion, trends, what's in and what's out and of gorgeous men with it. and women in fantastic clothes .... It's very easy to get confused Ultimately remember It's always best to wear what you think as to what we want, what will look good on us and what to wear looks good on you, dress appropriately for the occasion and not when. I have compiled a few style tips that should make this a bit just follow fashion blindly... You can never go wrong and will always look your stunning best. easy. 1. Remember size isn't anything but a number- Pay less attention PS: Don't forget to look at the bright side of things... As Audrey to the size of the outfit and more to the fit. You maybe a medium Hepburn said, "happy girls are the prettiest". but in certain styles maybe a large would look better on you... Don't give too much importance to whats printed on the label. 2. Always bet on black- I have read it like a hundred times... But I do think black flatters most people... You can always enhance it with a scarf or jewellery. But this shouldn't deter you from being colourful and bright... Stick to black only when in doubt. 3. A scarf can make all the difference - check out the internet ...you can wear it in like a hundred different ways. It's the perfect accessory for our nagpur winters and can brighten up any outfit. 4. For longer looking legs - shoes as the same colour as your trousers, or your outfit will instantly make your legs look longer... We all like to look an inch or two taller than we are and cannot always sport 5 inch heels. 5. Smile - Anyone would look dazzling with a bright smile, and the focus will be more on your lovely face and less on the outfit in case you don't want to show you aren't very confident about it. The best way to brighten up your smile is with some bright lipsticks. They instantly lift up your mood and brighten up anything that you are wearing. 6. Accessorise - never underestimate the power of accessories... It's not so difficult with us Indians where jewellery is concerned with the Indian wear. But do not neglect this aspect when you decide to try something western. Many a plain outfit can instantly be glamourised by a belt, scarf, neck piece. Try to stick to one focal point of accessory and not look like a Christmas tree. 7. Pick out your outfit- if it's a big party, occasion or something special... Do think about what you would wear and try it on at

Grey Zone When Hari met his Saali A title like that and you are already halfway to predicting the possible twist in the story. It also rouses a sneaking suspicion whether the book has been inspired by the famous Hollywood flick 'When Harry met Sally' which I can safely say, it is not. The first part of the story is set in Los Angeles and the writer has effectively brought out the flavor of the lives of modern young Indians living the American dream. The characterization of the two central characters, Hari and Tia is of essence here. Tia has been portrayed as an ambitious achiever and Hari is the chilled out but practical dude. The story begins with Hari and Tia's relationship amidst preparations for their engagement. The irony though is that you see little love between them, what comes across is two completely different individuals who love the idea of 'being with' each other rather than actually loving each other. Tia, the go getter that she is, is hell bent upon changing Hari and making him into the kind of life partner that she idealizes, and Hari, who wants to do everything for the love of his life and yet can't help but be himself. This forms the primary niggling issue in
Sapna Vastani their relationship. Meanwhile, we also get a glimpse of the life that once Tia lived , left behind in Nagpur, being lived now by her younger sister Simi and their mostly grieving mom. Simi's character brings a lot of freshness to the story. She is smart, funny, a dreamer, but the kind who is too cautious about actually living her dreams cause they come at a price. It seems like she's been holding herself back for so long which makes hers a mixed and confused, but unpredictable personality. The two sisters with bad history between them and one clueless man form one wacky triangle. The 'obvious' twist comes through, but not the way you would expect it. This story is not just a love triangle, but also in some ways a realization about how we agree to live in denial at times, subconsciously hoping for the impossible to become true. The book has a colorful, eye-catching cover that well captures the essence of the plot while showcasing the wit that forms the soul of the book. The story has been primarily limited to the three main protagonists with a few supporting characters, keeping the plot simple. The language is lucid and narration is impeccable, helps the reader
visualize it beautifully. The book attempts to logically look at every shade of the character's personality, and has succeeded in this endeavour to a great deal. The book is an interesting page turner, albeit a bit slow and predictable in the latter half. The author Harsh Warrdhan is our very own Nagpur lad and also the son of a late Rotarian. He is an engineer and graduate from Columbia College. He took up screenwriting as a strategic career when he headed to Los Angeles from Nagpur to study film-making. Harsh has written and directed an American film and has written screenplays for films and TV. 'When Hari Met His Saali' is his first novel. This fiction is published by Harlequin India and is priced at 299 INR.

Yatharth Javery VIII - Modern School.
As a son of a Cricket Crazy mom I have received cricket in my genes. I love cricket: it is something that runs through me in my veins and my blood. Like all youngsters I Dream of playing for my country one day. Currently a student of Class VIII I represent my school in under 14 tournaments. My father coached me in our compound. Later I joined structured coaching at Ruby Sporting Club at WCL ground. I am a fast bowler and my friends fondly call me Brett Lee. I also represent the club in all the tournaments that it participates. My Mom loves cricket and plays in Rotary's Rotary Cricket League every year. Balancing studies and cricket together gets very tiring at times but my passion for the game makes me put that extra bit of effort. I thank my family and coaches and my friends for always motivating and supporting me. Every Match and Tournament I Play gives me new Experience!

IN HIGH SPIRITS....! The music was in the air... guitars strumming, catchy hooks, unstoppable beats...and I could hear the saxophone and accordion artistically complimenting to create a soulful symphony in some nook on the street. Despite a sprained ankle, I couldn't resist and spurted, to find myself surrounded by "Buskers" - the singers and musicians performing on the streets. The music was omnipresent - couples dancing to glory, the elderly cherishing and the children tip toeing... It was a pleasant sunshine of July 2015, on Grafton Street, also coined as "The heart of DUBLIN " - the music capital of the world, and I was the lucky one, soaking in the hospitality and infectious Irish charisma, which this happy city had to offer. The Grafton Street is an extension of the pathway leading from the famous Trinity College situated in the city centre of Dublin. We had a unique experience of sharing accommodation in the campus rooms, owing to the students summer break.. The prestigious Trinity College was established in 1952 and is one of the seven ancient Universities of Britain and Ireland, which allowed women's education in the year 1904.It also has the honor of being the Alma mater of Ireland's famous writer Oscar Wilde. The sprawling campus comprises of twenty five schools, offering diploma and degree courses both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. My wife, Aarti enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere and nostalgia which transported her to the University yesteryears. In the evening, we meandered our way for
supper to "O'Neill's", one of the oldest pubs on Suffolk Street. Most of the pubs do not serve food after 9 pm, but are open till late after midnight, offering a myriad of lagers, ales, ciders and whiskeys on their menu. To feel the pulse of Irish life, one needs to frequent the centers of celebrations called, "The Irish Pub or Public Houses. “ The socio economic importance of this unique heritage Institution lies in its atmosphere, customers and its contribution to the Irish culture through music and literature. With around seven to eight thousand dotted in the whole of Ireland, this international marvel is at the hub of Irish life. The classic attitude of an Irish drinker is encapsulated in an Irish song.. "Lets drink and be merry, all griefs to refrain, For we may and might never all meet here again". Apart from the architecture and decor, the Irish pub experience is incomplete without attending a traditional live Irish music pub session coupled with "Guiness", a popular dark barley beer, rich in taste and an "Irish Coffee" which retains its unique place in the heart of an Irish drinker. As they say, Guiness definitely tastes better when you have it in Dublin. The evening was wrapped up by a live electrifying show, 'River Dance' an Irish dance troupe."I missed this show in New York" said an elderly lady sitting beside me in Abbey Theatre. Me and my wife were seated separately, courtesy, the last minute bookings, but the chatter of this lady kept me some company until the curtain was raised. No adjective can do justice to the spectacular array of talent, the energy and
sensuality of the performers. The theatrical show of traditional Irish music and dance (Tap dance) is in its twentieth year and has performed over hundred and fifty venues worldwide. Watching it on its home turf was more than a delight for us. I strongly recommend not to miss this show if you ever come across. Dublin is a very vibrant and a friendly city with the youngest population in all of Europe. Visits to the national museums are free and taxis can be hired by a shout. The art too seems to be triple distilled and matured like their famous IRISH WHISKEY, which they differentiate by spelling the letter "E" in WHISKY. The thousands of pubs literally measure the length and breadth of the city making every nook and corner vibrant and electrifying. Experiencing the harmony of Ales (hand crafted beer of the land), Whiskey and music, witnessing the divine merger of art with the artist freezes you with the desire of HIGH SPIRITS and immortality so much so that you deny to belong anywhere but in Dublin!! The Beer never stops flowing and music never stops playing.. Music is the life and Pub - The lifestyle.. Street performances are encouraged, Eating after nine is discouraged.. Every other guy is musically talented, And fun filled evenings are always wanted.. A bunch of happy lot, innocent storytellers, heaviest drinkers. With musical ears , Baileys and Beers.. Its DUBLINERS!! From Dublin, Ireland.
INtelligent INvestment Vinita Bahri PERSONAL FINANCE WIDGETS -CA Vinita Bahri “Booming Stock markets…but a stagnating economy, Cheaper mobiles… but expensive onions”…………… Life is full of contradictions, and the only way we can make some sense out of it, is by LIVING IT! When squirrels are faced with the prospect of plenty of acorns in the autumn, they typically store them by what is called in squirrel language,”Scatter Hoarding” i.e, dispersing and burying across the field at various locations. In general terms, we call it spreading our investments so as “not to put all eggs in one basket.”And Financial Advisors trying to “jhaado some fundaas”, will call it Diversification. Diversification of Investments across various asset classes is something we all do, just like the squirrels. And did you know, they bury the red acorns and eat the white ones! Some investments are short term in nature and some…long term. Just have know which is which. Otherwise we would be left holding a decayed white acorn that could have been eaten immediately instead of being saved for the winters, and the red ones taste so much better once they have aged under the grassy fields!! Something like selling land as soon as you buy it, and holding on to Fixed Deposits till their value gets completely eroded by taxes and inflation. Poster boy of the Indian Stock markets, Rakesh Jhunjhunwala's story of making 1.9 billion US Dollars out of Rs 5000/- is definitely an eye popper. But not everyone can do that math and hence the multiplication. Probably why everyone isn't a billionaire…. And besides the math, there was a method in his madness. He started his investment journey as a punter who punted stocks, to accumulate capital to subsequently become an investor; Besides the oodles of money that he now has, he also possesses humongous amounts of patience. The investment he made in Titan Industries(known also for their famous brand Tanishq) in 2002-03,is still there and now, one of his most valuable ones, Patience is something most of us lack…and not only as investors. The key takeaways come down to: Diversification across asset classes Patience and perseverance to see the investments come to fruition.

So, in the squirrel world, Rakesh would probably be a flying squirrel!!! All squirrels can't fly, but all of them do save their acorns for those crisp winter mornings when they can perch themselves on tree tops and watch the rest of the world scurrying by,,

If I have to describe Rina Sinha in one word, the word has to be “Perfectionist”. I wonder if perfectionism is an inborn trait, 'God's gift' kind of a thing or is it something we nurture and develop. I tried to find an answer to this when I spoke to Rina recently. Rina is one of those few people who you meet and immediately get a sense that they know what is right from wrong, what are the solutions , how problems should be tackled, how to resolve a matter – very sorted out basically. Born and brought up in Nagpur, Rina is a typical Nagpurian. Losing her father at the tender age of 10 made her a very responsible child. She became a very diligent kid. Proving her worth and shining in studies and extra-curricular activities was her way of comforting her mother, who was a single parent now. Always a meritorious student is school and college, Rina had no trouble in getting admitted to LIT, the esteemed Chemical Engineering College and she excelled in this course too. But this stream, not having much career scope for women in those days, prompted her to pursue Computer Software Education. She got her Higher Diploma from NIIT and went on to study at DEC, Boston. A small detail which needs to be added here is that half of these studies happened after she was married and a mother. So I need to mention with emphasis or how we can say in our bollywood style, “ ab hero ki entry hoti hai”. Rina got engaged to Amitabh (not Bachchan ) when she was sweet sixteen and he, a lanky 19 year old boy studying at IIT. Our very own popular Rotarian Amitabh Sinha is the man we are talking about. It was an arranged marriage of sorts where the mom-in -law saw Rina and said she has to be the girl for my boy. They got married when she turned 21 and both being professionals moved to Bangalore for work. Little Neha came soon after and the working couple showed excellent compatibility, sharing chores and parent responsibilities in managing work and the home front. Rina says, the man behind her success is one and only –Amitabh Sinha. She is what she is because of him. It was his support, confidence in her, his assurance and his backing that could let her
travel abroad for studies leaving behind their toddler with Amitabh. He was and is there for her at every step in her career and life and she dedicates all her achievements to his rock-solid support. Amitabh himself is a very well established industrialist with factories in India and collaborations with companies in Germany and U.S.A. He is a self-made man and shows true signs of a successful man who knows how to balance work and family life with excellence. Also a Rotarian, Amitabh has held office in Rotary as a Secretary for year 2008-2009. He loves music and plays the mouth organ with precision. Blessed with three children, Neha, Nidhi and Nishchay, Rina describes her home as a mad house when all the kids are home spending time with parents. The atmosphere in the house is very free with all having an opinion and all voicing it, sometimes all at once. Education has always found a very important place in Sinha Residence. Both parents, having reached the well deserved ranks in their respective careers purely on the basis of merit, have very well brought up the kids in similar atmosphere. And all three kids are all-rounders. Neha, a Graphic Designer with MBA from UK was also the captain of her college Hockey Team. Nidhi an IT kid, is also a State Level Basketball player. Nischay the junior most is pursuing B-tech at NIIT University, Neemrana and is the captain of
his University Tennis Team. Rotary has been a part of Rina and Amitabh's life for more than two decades now. Rina has held various posts and carried out several Projects for Rotary with complete dedication and success. Being associated with NIIT for more than 30 years and heading the Nagpur NIIT as a Business Partner for 25 years has also helped Rina adopt this corporate approach in any task she undertakes, even in Rotary. She totally believes in the Rotary Four-Way Test. With excellent organizational and oratory skills and a practical approach she is one of the best team leaders Rotary has today. As a Treasurer for this Rotary year, she has a very busy year ahead. But being a perfectionist, which you can see in every small thing she does right from her gardening to her cooking, even designing her house, she is surely going to stand out and outshine as a Treasurer too. The dreams she sees for Rotary will definitely help take Rotary to a higher plane and one day we will surely see her lead the club with her power bank dedication, professionalism, honesty and her perfectionism; Perfectionism, which she has strived for and excelled at with her commitment.

Dr.Satish and Dr. Deepali Kadam
Proud Parents to 'Super Kid ' Meghan, who at 20 now, is doing 3 r d y e a r Economics Honors at Symbiosis Pune. When just 2 and a half, he was awarded the youngest computer wizard in the city. The media went crazy over this little genius and everyone, including the p a r e n t s wondered when and how had he picked up this knowledge! Drs Satish & Deepali Kadam, just a month old members now, are both busy doctors of the city. Satish is a freelancing anesthesiologist while Deepali is a Radiologist with the Lata Mangeshkar College. Satish, who spent his childhood in Amravati, did his MBBS from GMC Nagpur. Since then Nagpur became his hometown. Deepali, a girl from MP, travelled all over with her father. So much so that
they even spent 2 yrs in Illinois USA, while her father did his Phd. An arranged marriage in 1990 & Deepali became a Nagpurian as well. While in college in Indore, her Physiology Professor was a Rotarian & he encouraged all his students to become Rotaractors. Deepali enjoyed attending medical camps etc with the Rotarians and knew one day Rotary would be a part of her life. Satish on the other hand went as a GSE team member in 1996 to Ohio USA. This memorable experience made him decide to join Rotary one day when he had some time to spare. Today when their only child is all grown & away from home, the Kadams would like to indulge in Rotary activities. As doctors, they do a lot of community service, so would like to be involved in other activities in the club. Satish loves any kind of Adventure Sport! Bungee jumping, Para & Hand Gliding, Sky Diving, name it & he has done it. Since in India we have restricted opportunities for these, he was very excited to experience these sports while in the US during his GSE visit. His disappointment knew no bounds when he was not given permission for the same! But his obsession found a way around & he extended his stay & indulged himself after the exchange period was over. He was adjudged one of the first 10 civilians for hand gliding. Here I must mention that the Dr. Satish donated his father's cadaver to the GMC. The R C of Nagpur accords a warm welcome to this interesting family! Thank You PDG Vishwas for introducing them to us.
With an executive MBA from S P Jain, a Diploma in Business Administration from IIM Bangalore, an LLB from Nagpur, with a 2 yr practice with a leading Advocate from the city, this young man chose to join the family business of Construction. He soon diversified to Film Distribution as well & is a proud distributor of more than a 100 films today. Manohar Wadhwani, was raised in Nagpur. Schooling at Bharti Vidya Mandir - Civil Lines, Junior College in Science at SFS was followed byCommerce in Hislop College. It was here that he met the love of his life, Bhuvi, who was a year junior. Parental approval came without any problem & they tied the nuptial knot in 2008. After her graduation in Commerce, Bhuvi did a 2 yr course in Fashion Designing & also enjoyed working for Reliance & Aviva Life Insurance companies for a couple of years. Anshika at 5 is the apple of their eye. In Pre school at Mother's Pet, she is the family pet, being the first born grand child to Appu & Laxmi, who are also the members of our club. Like father like son ! Both are great philanthropists & would love to be a part of Community Service. Bhuvi also shares her husband's passion for Social work. Looking forward to seeing more of them. Welcome to the R C of Nagpur, Bhuvi & Manohar
