On International Literacy Day the club adopted two children to fund their educational expenses up to Class 12. The members also recognised teachers of the Cooperative Public School in the town with Nation Builder Awards. he Rotarians of RC Aurangabad, D 3132, helped the students of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation School at Bansilal Nagar to make their own Ganesha idols to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi. Rotarians Sarita Lonikar, Dipti Korde and Deepali Sewalikar took the initiative to coordinate the workshop to teach the children to design images of the Elephant-god with clay. otary Club of Panvel Elite, D 3131, sent relief material worth `1.5 lakh to the floodaffected people of Kerala which was airlifted to the destinations. More than 1.5 tonnes of food grains and edible items, medicines, toiletries and garments were part of the relief package.
“In order to ensure that the help reaches the right place, we coordinated with a Rotary alumnus stuck in Kerala to update us about the groundlevel situation and also letting us know about the requirements of those affected by this natural disaster,” said Ritesh Munoth, Club Secretary.

Rotary Club of Varanasi South, D 3120, will never forget its charter president Trinok Nath Bhargava, charter secretary Ved Prakash Mankhand, charter members Ramesh Dutta and past president Ravi Chakravarti. Though they are not amongst us physically, they are in our hearts and mind and often RVPUFE CZ NFNCFST XIJMF ÜOBMJTJOH any club project. They were true Rotarians. We have immortalised them by formulating projects and events in their memory. Within few days after the demise of Dutta on Sep 9, 1986, the club decided to organise a quiz contest titled ‘Ramesh Dutta Quiz

he Rotarians of RC Dharwad, D 3170, brought out a novel idea to combat pollution of rivers and lakes during the Visarjan when Ganesh idols are immersed by devotees after the ten-day Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. The club arranged a brightly decorated tanker filled with water to help in a safe disposal of the idols. “We did not lessen the ceremonial part of the event. We publicised the availability of such an option and sensitised people about the harm immersions of various kinds of idols will do to the waterbodies, and how they get polluted with all forms of inorganic matter like plastic flowers and accessories used to decorate the idols. ugust was a special month for RC Dombivli East, for the club got 26 new members and DG Ashes Ganguly was there to induct the greenhorns and initiate them to the big world of Rotary. The club has a strength of 201 members now. Later that month, the club organised a ‘Safe Touch’ workshop for students of RV Nerurkar School in Pandurang Wadi. The girl students were also taught ways to defend themselves in case of any abuse. The club donated a biocompost equipment and waste segregation bins to the Swami Vivekananda Vidya Mandir in Datta Nagar. The Rotarians delivered awareness lectures to the students on environment challenges and how they can do their bit in combating such challenges.
